Sandisk Class 2 micro sd card - the legends are NOT true! - Venue Pro General

Just wanted to report that at last, after months of crashing, 3 device swaps and trying 2 different cards in my DVP the issues with my phone seem to have gone by swapping to a Sandisk class 2 32GB card.
With the 7392 update I was able to create a backup point and with the confirmed class 2 Sandisk I swapped from the installed Transcend card and since then I have used wifi to download a 70MB game, synced wirelessly, browsed the web, used several applications with no signs of the crashes I would typically have had with my previous card. There have been a few slowdowns and 1 instance where tapping a tile would not open but apart from that it is light years away from my previous experience with the phone crashing all the time and I can now actually enjoy the phone.
All in all, it has been a frustrating, painful experience and all I can say is, if you are having problems and are willing to forgo the warranty try a card swap with a class 2 Sandisk card. You just might get a working phone out of it and actually get to enjoy WP7.
Edit: I take it all back, right now I'm looking at a dvp that wakes up to a black screen, earlier today I had a typical hard lock when trying to turn wifi off. Problems reduced but not gone completely.

Im doing it, and just as I posted in the other thread.... the phone locked up and specifically states to "REMOVE THE MEMORY CARD". Void warranty, my arse. Took pictures of the screen to cover my but and everything. It is on them now. Don't care... doing what the product tells me to do....

I'm guessing you could turn a tidy profit selling copies of that photo to the bulk of people on this board.

heheheh....you're right....but...I've seen Mango on the Dell VP already.....can't wait.

I'm an idiot! I ordered a 32GB SDHC card from Amazon. Got it yesterday. Yeah - not "micro." I was like "Ooo $47!" So yeah, re-ordered $60 micro...
If you want 16GB, check out this Class 2 from buy.com - buy.com/prod/sandisk-16gb-microsdhc-card/q/loc/101/209114572.html
Hopefully I'll be back in a week, talking about how great the 32GB card I got was. Unfortunately, I already ran the 7392 update, so I won't get a "backup" when I put that new card in. Lose a week's worth of text messages. Oh well, I tend to delete my girlfriend's conversation every few days because it gets super long and starts to act a little strange.

Hahahah...man, I did hte exact same thing. I now have a 32g SD card...sitting here...waiting for my tablet....when I get one!!!

I'll wait until the 18th (again) and if Dell doesn't say anything about a firmware update I'll go ahead and swap my SD card as well. I've had this phone since late December and have not been able to reliably use WiFi. This wouldn't be a huge deal if T-Mobile had 3G coverage all around Virginia Beach, but it doesn't and using the DVP on EDGE is a ****ty experience. EDGE at home, EDGE at work, and WiFi everywhere teasing me and my DVP. If T-Mobile had another WP7 device with a similar screen/size to the DVP I'd eBay this thing in an instant.
@efjay - If you find that over the next few days you continue to get crashes with your new SD card, could you update this thread?

Just did. Short version - phone still crashes.
Edit: It gets worse. Phone crashed about 10 minutes ago so had to power down by holding power button. Now the people hub and all my messaging accounts wont open, just kick me back to the start screen, even when trying to open their settings. Fantastic!!
Edit 2: here is the result of my latest crash, unable to access email or SMS. http://www.vimeo.com/23743865

I finally decided to do it (mainly cause I was getting freezes even without Wi-Fi too), and it works great. SanDisk 16GB MicroSD Class 2 works perfectly. I've done my best to overload the phone with downloads via Wi-Fi, and things went smoothly with nothing more than a 1 second hiccup.

That's pretty disappointing news. I guess Dell has us by the balls a little longer.

I got my card last night! The black sticker came off in that weird "designed to break" sort of way. It was tricky getting the 8GB card out, but pretty easy getting the 32GB in. The process was really simple...
1) Settings > About >Reset phone
2) As Dell logo appeared in boot sequence, remove battery
3) Swap cards (use colorful language as needed)
4) Boot and run through setup

So far, I've been good. I never really had issues with WiFi, but new apps would freeze the phone the first time the ran 9 times out of 10. IMDB search still fails, but looking at reviews, I believe that's an app specific issue. At least it just causes the app to close out. It used to cause freezes. The rest of my apps are behaving well. They downloaded quickly and ran awesome the first time.
Just yesterday, I took a photo and the phone trying to write the photo to storage caused a freeze (and the photo was missing on reboot.)
On an unrelated note... Shazam was having trouble updating for the past few days... now it seems like it is completely gone from the market place. Huh?!
Anyway, I'll try to be a good helper and come back with updates, good or bad.

figured I'd chime in.
I got my DVP (at&t, 8gb) in last thursday. Just installing 4 apps over wifi and i had to pull battery probably 4times the first night i had it. I had done my homework before ordering on the card swap and it was part of my original plan. My 32gb card came in today. Hard reset, swapped, reinstalled everything and have been killing it on wifi all night. No issues whatsoever.

Had the same thing going on, it seems to be related to Shazam trying to move forward with a premium version that they could charge for, eitehr to buy the app for a subscription service (I'm not sure). Somehow their updates broke their app for a bit and they wound up pulling everything from the marketplace.
Not sure when (if?) it will or has been addressed.

From what I have heard, it is pulled do to an issue with the update placing the app in the Xbox Live hub. I was told Microsoft pulled it because that is a huge no-no to them.
On a side note... no one should pay a dime for this damn program. It is offered for free, with unlimited tagging, but ad-supported, on the iphone. There is no reason we should have to pay to get the same thing. I am tired of this game of charging us for stuff they give to Apple Sheep and charging us $10 for stuff the charge $0.99 for on the iphone.
At the same time Microsoft needs to change the environment and way the whole app handling works. I now have payed for two apps (Doodle God and the Xbox Live Blade game) which they pulled from the market. As you know I have sent back FIVE of these lemons now. There is no way to get either of these apps I paid for back on my phones, because for some INSANE reason I am not allowed to store these apps locally. I have tried getting refunds on both and have gotten no where with Microsoft or the developers. The developers from Doodle God told me to buy Doodle Devil. They can go stick themselves. Their fix for them stealing their app back from me, is to buy another one from them that is almost identical. COMPLETE INSANE APP STRUCTURE! Fix this NOW Microsoft.

Ok...my buddy over in MS mobility tells me that you are entitled to refund...if the story is as you say it is. A purchased app, that is removed from the system by MS or the devloper, and the item is clearly listed on the billing system. Then you are entitled to a refund. My buddy just told me to have you call Zune Support...thats the team that supports Marketplace. They will go through MS BILLING with you, find the app, and refund it.
let me know if thats not what happens.

Minor update - I wanted to load my phone up with music to "work the sdhc card" but only managed to get less than 2GB on there so far (since I'm picky .)
Total Storage: 29.90 GB
Available Storage: 27.16 GB
Listened to music in my car this morning via AUX jack. Still haven't had any freezes.
EDIT: Was in Marketplace looking at a Spotify related app; screen shots weren't loading. Hit Windows key and phone went to Start Screen but was frozen. One freeze about 36 hours into the card swap.

Another update - 1 more freeze Friday night, just trying to use Internet Explorer over 3G.
Marketplace WAS broken for about a day. Whenever I tried to access it, I got error code c00cee24. There are some forum posts about it, but no sure fixes. I'm not sure why mine went away, other than that I connected to Zune and was able to "see" the regular Zune/connected marketplace message.

Otherwise, very stable. Have been using a lot of apps and playing various games (Occupied, Pandas v. Ninjas, Flowerz - don't judge!)

Free SD Card for TMOUS users

Hey, I wanna share this for all TMOUS user. Quote this from another post
"Just wanted all to know, HTC has recently acknowledged an issue with the 16GB SD card that shipped with the US T-Mobile HD2. T-Mobile issued an internal bulletin to this effect and provided a US number (888.356.2375) to call to arrange to have the SD card replaced, from Level 2 to a Level 4 SD card. Alot of HD2's had the Level 2 card installed and this card was found to cause the phone to freeze. The Level # is indicated by a circle with a numeral in the middle of it. Usually on the upper right hand side of the SD card. When you call the number HTC provided they will want you to have the HD2 in front of you with IMEI and S/N ready. The unique thing is HTC has rescinded their policy to send the 'bad' SD card back so if they send you a replacement Level 4 card you will end up with 2 SD cards. (I'm sure that Level 2 card could be reused somewhere) This info is probably even more useful to owners that have installed Android Froyo 2.2 on their HD2 as I have. The ROM's are usually contained on the SD card itself and not flashed internally. HTC does indicate a backorder on the replacement SD cards (up to 2 weeks or so) Hope this helps some of you with the freezing condition."
Hope this will some how help the screen freeze problem. Yay for a class 4 card. I just call in and order my. Very easy and free. Cheer
Edit: oh yeah, and make sure you don't tell them that you reformatted the card. Make thing less complicated.
Update:
Just to clear out a little bit here. When I got the information, this is not an OFFICIAL recall or replacement service. It was really much just a tip from someone that has this done.
They were willing to replace the card for people because they acknowledged that the card do have problem. And they posted the information originally only for people who has problem with the card.
So if you happen to call in, please be aware that there is no such thing as replacement or recall service. You suppose to report a problem with your card. That worked for many people. They just asked for the IMEI or S/n and don't even care about if you are T-mobile customer or not.
Now, seem like there is a high volume of people calling in about the replacement service that they didn't aware. They must started to pick up on that and suspend this service or something until further announcement. If they refuse to give you one, it's because of this.
Update: I just got mine and a few people have confirm. It is a Samsung Class 2 sd card. Please keep the posting about what card you receive so everyone know. Thanks

I also inquired into the Class specification of the SD card and my rep. did a check with the warehouse to see if she was unaware of the change to send out Class 4's and came back saying that at this time there is no order for them to be sending out Class 4's so they will be sending me a Class 2 card. But no need to send mine in. So... still Win? I get to have 2 now so I guess.
dang it works. Just ordered mine too, and the lady was really nice and helpful. Was just asking for S/N and some basic info and address to ship the card to. She did say that the new card will be a Class 4 card, and will arrive in about 2 weeks.
Thanks a lot for the info man.

ya, only took a couple minutes. the acted kinda hesitant at first. he asked me where i was getting this information, and i read off that quote to him in the first post in the bold letters. so i pretty much told him i was reading it off of T-Mobile's website. he started to laugh and say something like "i was just curious where everyone was getting this information because i've gotten like 10 phone calls in the last 30 minutes about this, and we don't know anything about it."
i was scared that it wasn't going to work at first, but the only thing i gave him was my name, address, and IMIE #
he said it would be replaced with a class 4, didn't give me a time frame, but if it's free i'll be happy to wait.
crud i didnt think to check the type of card, I just assumed it was a class 4. Oh well, free card and it was super fast. She said it will ship in 3-5 business days. Woot!

Engineering Sample???

I just picked up a Venue Pro and I noticed in the back of the battery there was an imprint on it stating it was an engineering sample, but the numbered code (starts with CN-) on it was different than on the device itself. Are they supposed to match? If it is an engineering sample device I could format a new microsd card, correct?
If it helps, hardware revision number: 112.576.2.0, radio hardware version: 8250
Where/when did you get the phone? There were some engineering batteries in the phones at Microsoft Stores for the WP7 launch, but I haven't heard of any since then.
What's the firmware revision?
just got it a week ago, used though. no idea when/where they got it.
firmware revision: 2250.1500.7004.029
its an 8gb, mostly curious b/c i wanna throw a 32gb card in it
That has to be a unit from the original launch at the Microsoft stores. I would make sure you do not have an WiFi issues since many of those units did have bugs. I had to return the one that I got on launch because of a fee issues. As far as I know the MS store units were the only ones thatbhad engineering sample batteries.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
What wifi issues am I looking for, I rarely use wifi. Does the engineering sample battery have anything to do with the phone though? I thought I read somewhere engineering samples are best for formatting the microsd cards, was wondering if that was going to reduce the risk of bricking it.
Can't test to much, still waiting on my simcard to be activated. They lag on dealer line activations.

You should be OK. At the time of the launch in the MS stores, the battery for the phones had the "engineering sample" batteries. Dell and Microsoft informed people at the time that the batteries should function as regular production ones. Apparently the phones had these batteries put in by mistake. As for the phones themselves, they were not pre production phones, but production ones.
As for what gshocker said, there were a lot of Wi-Fi hanging issues that are separate from the battery issue. You might want to make sure it is not constantly hanging and freezing.

That is most likely a device sold at a Microsoft Store for the WP7 launch. It probably cannot connect to secure (WPA, WEP) WiFi networks among other things.
Eventually Microsoft Store got updated devices with the same firmware as those sold through Dell, which is 2250.1500.7004.105. You may be able to get it exchanged at a MS store or through Dell for a newer device with updated firmware.

Still haven't been able to test the wifi freeze issue. I can connect to my secure home network just fine though. Tmobile is dragging on activating my lines.

Venue Pro BIGGEST POS

I am now waiting on my third one. Unfortunately I originally purchased a 16GB version and have had nothing but problems with it.
Neither so far have been able to run more than 30 seconds with the WiFi on without crashing. So I have been thinking I was going to swap the card out for a 32GB card. But before I could do that, now the current phone has tons of dust under the screen, no longer will connect EVER to 3G, and crashes everytime I shut the keyboard.
I have spent at least (without exegarating) 100 hours on the phone with Dell. I have been up the chain of command. Even after send them about 20 links showing were the issues clear up when the 16 GB cards are swapped out, they insist there is nothing wrong with the cards. Lately I can't run a video on the phone, that runs perfectly fine on my Zune HD, without the video and audio staggering (willing to bet the card is not keeping up with the pace the OS is trying to read it). Now even with the WiFi off it crashes CONSTANTLY.
As a result, as I have been waiting for me 3rd replacement, I have contacted the Michigan Attorney Generals Office for consumer protection and now they are on Dell's arse. Yet, they still claim there is nothing wrong with these cards. What both me and the Attorney General are arguing is 2 things...
1) Why they don't just honor the warranty and allow those of us with all these issues to swap out the SD card.
2) Why they have been shipping phones for months and months now if they knew they are defective?
This phone has just been a complete disaster. Unfortunately, to get another Windows Phone with T-Mobile, I would have to go with the HD7. I don't have $500 to shell out on a new phone, and I don't T-Mobile is just going to hand me one, because my Dell is a POS. This is just ridiculous.
On a side note, can someone tell me how to get a SanDisk 32GB CLASS 4 microSD card? Everytime I order one, it comes in a class 2 even though they advertise it as a class 4 and have to just ship it back. Anyone able to give me advice on this or point me to a linke or company that they know has Class 4's?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Hmm interesting. I bough an 8GB DVP a couple of weeks back and have had no problems so far. I recently switched to 32 GB card. The one I got was:

It shows class (2) in the picture but the card I got shows class (4).
I replaced mine with a sandisk 32g class 2 and it works. not sure if class 4 works better.

WOW! Boy do we think alike! check out my msg on this thread: How is your DVP after updating to Nodo? Can anyone smell a class action here?
Totally should be one. I get the whole, "you only get penny's back on the dollar because the lawyers eat up everything in a class action suit". But, in this case, anything to make sure that Dell is not profiting off these lemons.
Besides how it looks and the quality of the screen, there is nothing good with these devices.
May biggest question is, how do you end up with an ENTIRE WAREHOUSE FULL OF DEFECTIVE SD CARDS? Every single person you talk to with 16GB either has nothing but crashing after crashing, freezing after freezing, or just ends up admitting they don't really use the thing other than the phone feature (doesn't use WiFi, browser, Zune, etc).
I know it sounds like I am being a smart ass, but I honestly believe that they cut a deal with SanDisk to buy refurbished cards for penny's on the dollar. And here is why: anytime there is an issue with multiple manufacturers involved, the finger pointing starts immediately. Not once has Dell blamed the issue on SanDisk, while at the same time other manufacturers are using the SAME cards and having 1000x the success rate. If there was any chance that SanDisk was to blame for shipping them defective SD cards, Dell would be calling them out with all this bad press. Look at the deal with NoDo... Microsoft points at the carriers; the carriers point at the manufacturers, and the manufacturers point back at the carriers, and the carriers point right back at Microsoft. The fact that Dell is being so silent about all this lends me to believe they are hiding something. And what else could they be hiding that would lend to having an entire manufacturing stock pile of bad SD cards? They got cut a deal and thought no one would know. Now it is a disaster and they are trying to pass the buck onto the consumer.
I say someone sues the pants off them so bad that they never try the mobile market again. They have no business being in it if this is the product they turn out and even worse, if this is how they try to make good on getting caught trying to pull a fast one on the consumer.

I don't thinik we can say for sure the SD cards are defective. For all we know they could work perfectly fine in other SD devices, but for whatever reason (bad driver, flaky controller etc) they cause issues in the DVP.
Can someone try this:
If you have a 32GB card installed, can you load it up until close to 29 to 30GB and see if you have similar crashes. The theory behind this is if the OS is having problem once the card reaches a certain percentage. Again since the 8GB versions don't have problem - my theory might be wrong. Another thought is Dell or WP7 OS /driver is fine tuned for 8GB, may be?

I doubt it's the remaining space as many people had the problem almost immediately after the phone came out. Also many have exchanged the phone at least once and stll had the problem. I would hope people are testing the replacements before immediately syncing tons of content, but I could be wrong.
The card size probably isn't the problem since people have replaced with other 16GB or 32GB cards and said it fixed the crashing.

Yep, I had 3 exchanges of the 16GB version and all had the same crashing while doing the initial sync with my pc, swapped in 2 32GB cards and nothing changed.

I've got ~6 Gigs free on a 32 GB install and it works fine. No more WiFI lockups. Phone now works great.
My only complaint is the camera still sucks for photo quality. I'm hoping the new firmware addresses that.

Same here. I don't think class 2/4 matters that much, the important thing is to just get rid of the bad stock card!

I have the 32g, and loaded it up so only 4g remained free. there was a slow down in performance....just enough to notice, but I had no crashes or other hangs or freezes.

I tend to agree with you, it doesn't matter. I have tried both class 4 and Class 2. both work fairly well. I have had small hangs or feezes with both, but nothing like before. However, with Class 4, I recieved alot of Storage Card not working messages. Pulling hte battery to restart or reseat the card and continuing. I had not terminal failure, though there is a thread here with SD card for Newbies where someone appears to have a terminal failure with this message.
I have not recieved a single "Storage card not working" message with the class 2.
I was taken by the amazon ad that clearly shows a class 4 card but recieved the class 2....not regretting it now.

I can't see why NFC is worth having

Quote from Ron Rule on twitter:
"How is it more 'convenient' to start an app, pick a card, enter PIN, then confirm vs. just swiping a credit card?"
You've got to admit he's got a point! Sometimes phones just aren't the best way to do things. I recently got my boarding card for a flight sent to my mobile as an MMS and it was a pain. It was a good way to show off my lovely SGS2 though! However next time I'm sticking to good old paper next time.
it's not as simple as just swiping a credit card, you have to take your wallet out of your pants and fumble around for your card. it's still probably faster than nfc still but the point of nfc imo is that if you have like a huge stack of cards like credit cards and gift cards, they're all just on your phone.
you wouldn't have to carry around all your cards on the off chance that you might want to use it that day. if you want to use your subway's gift card, it's already on your phone and you don't have to run home and get it
At least here in Croatia debit cards require a swiping, then have to be inserted into a machine and then you input a pin, wait a good 5~10 seconds for a confromation and you're done.
Credit cards require you to swipe the card and wait for the machine to print out a reciept that you have to sign.
So NFC makes a lot sense to me.

Most people have 1 card, some more.
It takes MUCH less place having cards, and if you can't take your card out properly, you need brain surgery or something.
For me this is just another marketing trick, like 3D.

i'm just going by the nfc video that engadget showed before, where it had not just your credit card but restaurant and store gift cards. if you don't use gift cards then this is irrelevant to you
the point is that nfc isn't just used for credit cards. for example it was also used to check into google i/o

However I won't deny the fact that having a phone with this feature which I won't use often or just incase IS better than having a phone without it.

Its not just about paying for things either, you could have a train ticket on your phone linked to foursquare and when you tap to go through the barriers it checks you in at that location automatically.
Or being at places where areas or stands could have nfc so people can get more information like having one at a restaurant automatically puts the name, number and menu on your phone.

nfc is going to come with next batch of s2 ?
i hav checked samsung's official website and it does not mention nfc anywhere..jst want to know if except korea any other has got nfc ? Like UK,etc...i also read that micro sd's are being made wid nfc support but they dont work in a metal tray.So guessing nfc will be added in our sim's by our respective carriers in the future if at all needed..i mean replace our old sim wid nfc included sim. Please correct me if im wrong,im jst pointing out that nfc takes a very small place and it can be placed even in a sim in near future. So not having nfc must not be an issue UNLESS IF SAMSUNG BRINGS NFC ON THERE NEXT OR 3RD BATCH OF S2 TO INDIA..early owners will be a whole lot of disappointd if sammy does so.anyway i doubt any country would get it 1st of all except korea ofcourse.

Wouldn't it also be an identity theft's dream come true. Your phone #s, social media info, credit card info, all located in one device. Also don't forget what do you do if your phone dies and you need to make a purchase? Or if you drop your phone? Or it gets stolen? Or buy a new phone (have to resync all that crap again)? So it isn't going to completely replace your credit card. Also for the guy that so fumble for your wallet. I guess your phone is in hand 24/7?

Actually I was wondering that the other day.
But I think it's worth having seeing as most of us have our hands in our phones a lot of the time, so of course in time, it'll probably become natural to those who use it.
I think that they need is a screen that can take a finger print and therefore NFC is only enabled when that certain fingerprint is on the screen. Sounds a bit far fetched but what are the bets that'll be implemented on phones in a year or two? There's only so many cores you can stick in one CPU
What everyone seems to be missing is that embedded NFC transactions won't just replace the swiping of a credit card, its able to do a lot more to change the way consumers shop and make transactions.
Let alone the multitude of other uses for NFC. People will start to use it for more than shopping as the technology becomes more widespread. Developers just need more incentive to be creative and really unlock it's potential.

i'm studying electrical and electronic engineering and i'm sure sooner hackers will try hack the NFC to steal credit card details. But NFC is good for health monitoring in the future.
I'm quite sick and tired of taking out my card out of my wallet every time I get on and get off a public transport, its so much hassle.
I would prefer to just scan the phone one one of those receivers since I always have my phone out on the public transport anyway.

I noticed in that google nfc video that you still have to sign your signature on the receiver, kinda a let down imo as paying at the pumps or shopping online you don't need any signature.

Samsung Pay Experience Thread

Just got my Samsung Pay Beta activated on my phone two days ago (Sprint GS6) and I wanted to share my experience. In short, it works brilliantly. I tried it today for the first time. I have my chip & pin Bank of America card attached to it.
The first place I tried was Walgreens. They have NFC readers, but I turned off NFC because I wanted to try the MST part to see how good it would work. As soon as the cashier told me how much I had to pay, I put my phone up to the reader and it worked almost instantly. I was actually surprised at how fast it was, even faster than NFC (Google Wallet) from my past experiences. The cashier didn't even flinch or ask questions, I guess she is used to people paying with their phones.
The second place I tried was Dollar Tree. I pretty much did the same thing, as soon as she told me the price I held the phone to the reader and it worked instantly. This time the cashier had never seen someone pay with their phone. She asked me if I had just paid with my phone and I said yes. She told me I was very advanced and modern (she was an older lady) and the old lady behind me said the same thing. She was smiling the whole time I was walking out the door. I laughed and told them it was the new Samsung Pay.
So far it has been a really nice positive experience from ease of use, to cashier response. I need to try it at more places obviously. Just one thing to mention, when the phone is off and you pull up the credit card, you have to swipe up all the way to the middle of the screen for it to recognize what you are trying to do and turn on. I wish they made it a smaller swipe motion.
I'll update this as I try it at more places. I plan on getting the Gear S2 Classic, so I'm excited to try NFC on that as well.
Got my beta a few days ago, just updated my FW today (T-Mobile Latest) still can't get the placeholder app to give me the install button.

Yeah. I wasn't at first but I fixed that quick. Wiped the galaxy app store, account, Samsung pay and samsumg÷ app. I even tried downloading someone else's Samsung pay and framework app. That got me further. I was able to get all the way to where it sees your login and I hit next it tries to load but fails.

I've read that it takes a few days to show up for some people, I hope it works soon for you.
used it the other day. Strange experience. but it worked flawlessly at Home Depot
Its also cool you can swipe up with the screen off and active it so you dont have to have it active all the time
(FYI: i had to call Samsung Pay to get beta activated because this is my 2nd phone and they had tied to the original IMEI i had)
Tried it at GameStop today and the MST worked flawlessly. Only this time the cashier asked me for the last 4 digits of the card. Samsung just updated the app yesterday and now it shows the last 4 digits of the digital card right under the last 4 digits of the real card. It did not show that before, so it is a nice update. Showed him my phone and was out the door. He was totally confused about the whole transaction, had never seen it done before.

Reported the same bug and got a ticket in as well. It seems to break both the top IR blaster (used by the Peel remote) and the proximity IR emitter on the front (used by Beep'nGo).
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong with my IR Blaster. I'm glad my hunch was right and that Samsung Pay (once a card is activated in the software) is the culprit.
Well, I was very excited to see Samsung Pay available for my use today. After the hour or so of updates that I needed, I went to start adding cards to it. Out of about 6 cards in my wallet, only one actually works. So, yeah, it's great that it can be used at more places than Google Pay or Apple Pay, but only with one of my cards, which happens to be an AmEx, which also means that it's NOT accepted at a lot of places.
Also, when I tried using it at the grocery store, I couldn't get it to work. I kept holding it near the card swipe slot, moving the phone around, never got it.

This depends on the given country and also the local banks AFAIK.
I got it activated today and added a card.

Nope. NFC is merely a fallback if it cannot do a MST. I keep NFC off just to try and get MST sales to go through.
