IF and only IF you are CURRENTLY eligible for the $75 upgrade, the 12 month mark since your last registered upgrade, you can get your upgrade pushed to a full upgrade THROUGH ACCOUNT SERVICES ONLY.
How? Call in, tell whoever answers that you want to cancel, this will put your account at risk getting you to Account Services, and then tell them that you wanted to upgrade but you can't now and want to know if they can reset your upgrade eligibility.
Follow my instructions. If you are not yet eligible for $75, it WILL NOT WORK. Period. Not even if you are one day away, IT WILL NOT WORK. Can't be any clearer than that.
To clarify because some people are seriously dumb: This is an OFFER that Account services has for a LIMITED TIME for qualified customers. Qualified means 1) at risk AND (not or) 2) currently elig for $75. Both. Not either, it's both, that's the program rules.

and no I'm not teaching anyone how to scam Sprint cause that is what it is.
like i said, it didn't work for me anymore.
only did it cause i was 19 and didn't want to pay $600 for a phone. lol
Why don't you get a full unlimited plan with sprint (minutes and data) and pay that for three months. That should make you eligible for a full upgrade. Did this like in Jan so bout time the evo 3d comes out I could grab it. Sprint changed their upgrade policies but you have to fall in certain guidelines for you to be eligible to get a new phone at no cost every year. If you don't fall within those guidlines you only have to pay so much for the phone you want

You know. These scams are hilarious. I have been dealing with Sprint a few years now and you only get something done with the right person and the right words. Scamming and POSTING it on an open forum is just stupid. As big of a corporation these cell providers are do you not think they don't pay some poor soul to read around on forums? As fast as these things get posted they correct them.
I have a relative that works for Sprint and I have talked to them about these types of things. I'm not blowing smoke, they seriously read forums such as these to see what people are trying to pull off.
Now as for rooting thats a thing that 85% of people are doing. They know they can't stop it and they know that you can do certain things to a phone to make it not power up or constantly boot loop so if you got the TEP then they are gonna replace it. However if they catch on then your screwed.
With no disrespect I would seriously stop wasting your time posting this and attempt to get the 2 minutes of your life back spent reading these threads.

*sigh*.. this has been kinda known for a long time now.. along with the folks on the Sprint side..
very, very RARELY will you find and speak with an individual that you can attempt to scam your way into getting perks anymore.. mostly because of morons that can and have abused the system.
YMMV.. but for the most part.. stuff like this doesn't succeed often.. and i've seen people accidentally cancelling all the way.. losing their account... even when they had a grandfathered plan that they can now never go back to.

well i was sorta jacked around yesterday, ill be a bit happier if and when i get my phone today. it's just all the mis info i was given that set me off. nobody seems to be on the same page with sprint. this was more of a rant video than anything. didn't expect it would piss off soo many sprint fans. oh well, life goes on. it's pretty common knowledge sprint has horrid customer service skills. i honestly had no idea the store i went to was a 3rd party because they only sell sprint phones and i was told before they are officially sprint, not some 3rd party rip off.
some really immature responses on the video, i expected better from adults. i have every reason to vent like most of you do.

So this guy is full of stories huh.
Ok, I've been reading all the threads about the 'leaked' beta that's being argued over etc. so I took it upon myself to chat w/ a Sprint rep about 2.2 and how to get my hands on this mystical beast..
When directly asked how to help beta test, the rep suggested that I contact technical support and they would "definitely" help me with that request.
FWIW..
No way any end-user is going to get a copy of that, sorry... Imagine the piles of NDAs you'd have to sign. They'd basically have to hire you into hardware dev. Sorry to burst your bubble, but it won't happen. That phone number is just to get you off their back.

not sure how to answer this one (rolls eyes)
After talking to Tier 2 tech support on the phone, I emailed him my screenshot and he seemed really puzzled that an online chat rep would tell me this.
HE said he is not aware of anything going on for beta testing.. Further, he checked his 'inside' mail/communications about upcoming things etc. and didn't see anywhere that would imply that the 2.2 update would be here within the next few weeks but he said that's where things stand today and it was subject to change.
He did say that normally, they get the inside scoop before things drop so that they are prepared before the official drop/release of new stuff and he saw nothing yet to imply that froyo was coming.
Further, he also mentioned that Sprint does not normally do Beta testing that he is aware of and that sometimes people get ahold of things (leaks) before they're official (which we already knew)..
So there's the answer. Sprint doesn't normally do beta testing
keep calling and bugging them and see if someone else gets it LMFAO
or just wait....
Two things:
1. The online rep you talked to doesn't speak English and is not privy to any sort of inside information. They don't know ****.
2. The "Tier 2" rep you talked to doesn't know ****.
No way, no how will you ever be able to "beta test" for Sprint. They do their own testing, but they keep it under wraps pretty tight. Anybody you talk to on the phone is just a Sprint drone.
Either way, you don't know if you don't ask right?
I asked whilst many whined about entitlement. (not implying that'd the case in this thread, but still..)

There is absolutely no doubt that the Epic will receive Froyo.
It will get it, I spoke with a rep at one of our conferences and he did state it was coming, but he just had no idea when. I know doesn't help to move things along. But be patient. Hell I had to wait until a week ago before employees were able to get our epics, so good things do come to those who wait.

Just wait until he gets next months bill and for some reason they switched him to a family plan with international roaming because he called in and asked about Froyo.
Rule #1 - NEVER call sprint unless you absolutely HAVE to.
Rule #2 - If you do HAVE to call, make sure to check your account online IMMEDIATELY after getting off the phone with them no matter what you were calling in about.
As long as froyo is a definite, its all good. Just gotta be patient even though its hard to wait for something that will make your phone truly "epic".
And damn, that would suck. Never have I experienced that with sprint but in the future ill look out for that. Idkillabitch if that happened to me.

LOL, no, they don't. They work in call centers, though some of the reps like to compare it to prison.
As for the beta testing, there is a VERY long, drawn out process to be a beta tester, and it's not what you know, it's who you know. I had some fairly high up individuals asking to get me beta team access, and I was shot down damn near instantly. However, a former coworker's brother got him into the beta team, and he was receiving phones almost 6 months before they were released. It was pretty awesome playing with the new stuff before any info was ever leaked to the net, but these folks are NOT techies like us, they just play with the phones and report any obvious bugs.

I think that even with all the (supposed) improvements in Sprint CS, it is absolutely pointless to ask any of them anything speculative or deeply technical. The experts are all right here and on "the googel." Leave the poor sops alone--you need a bill adjustment or credit, call them. You need expertise, come here. ^_^

first level CS not knowing, giving BS, I dont blame em. I always throw out the froyo question if I am calling anyways, just for this amusement... the first level people know less than the sales people at a sprint store. The BEST ones, MAYBE, are the ones who ask their supe, and its not a 2 min hold, its just a few seconds, and they come back and say they dont know, sorry. Now the tech support lady I was transferred to, who obviously had NO tech experience (supposedly second tier) did not know what 2.1 or 2.2 meant, so I said Froyo, then it was like a red flag, oh let me get my supe, I said no, I was more concerned with the replacement Epic I had just waited 5 days for that FC'd everything... system apps, everything. Its like their 'tech support' are there just to annoy you into driving to the sprint store so a tech can look at it in person. ONE guy was cool enough to set me up an appointment, and describe in the job ticket what they were to do, as they said my effed up display was cosmetic when I went in to the 'techs' previously. Anyways, never had to deal with them till I got an Epic... so I dont know if it changed. Dont get me wrong, my screen issue was either defect or a damaged connection cable, otherwise epic is solid.
Now the 'finance' department going to a comission basis, or at least acting like it, is bull****. I got two lines because I had a second job where I had to call in orders to landlines, taking hours at a time (Frontier FIOS), then left the job and had issues with payments on two lines for just myself (nobody told me of seasonal hold on a line) and had to deal with finance. In the past, say 2 years ago and longer, they were AWESOME, they would work out any reasonable deal...but im guessing with the economy, they are pusing them to have all these stupid stipulations, etc. I know its my fault I am behind, I signed a contract, but in the past they were SO willing to do anything to keep my account, it was awesome. Also, anyone get a disconnect lately? No more handy redirect to customer service/finance... now its just a 1970s phone company voice saying you are not authorized to make a call to this number, please try again later... cheaped out on that system too....
BUT, still cheapest carrier, and better CS all around than VZ, any division...

I've worked in call centers for quite a while and it's not the fault of the agents when management defines a script for them and doesn't give them anything else to work with. Understand when you work in a job like that, everything you say is recorded and if you deviate from the script and start throwing your opinion out there you risk your job.
I'm fortunate that now, while I'm still on the phone, I provide tech support to the gov so generally I get a lot more leeway than I did in previous jobs. But there still are pre-written scripts I have to rattle off in certain circumstances, and usually to very important people. Ironically, they almost never give me a hard time because unlike the whiny residential customers at a previous job, these people actually understand that we have procedures and policies to follow for the sake of legality / security / confidentiality / modus operandi.
In short, I'm glad I don't have to talk to people like you anymore!

Hehe well starting a sentence with "Look, Sir" and ending with "I don't have a clue" is a great way to turn a frustrated caller into an irate one.
But yeah, "I wish I could answer that question but we haven't been provided with a release date yet. We've been told that the update is in the works and should be released in the near future. Do you have any other questions I might be able to help with?"
It sounds lame but if you sympathize too much with a caller, they suddenly want to spend 20 minutes telling you their life story (time you generally aren't allowed to spend chit-chatting). If you are too cold and uncaring, they get ticked off. So you're stuck basically with "Yeah I feel for you, but here's what I can do for you / tell you. Do you need anything else?"

Would that have changed your opinion or would it have been another "confirmation that Sprint doesn't know what they're doing"? In looking at the overabundance of posts on Froyo I"m guessing that a post would have developed stating something like " Just called tech support. Asked them about Froyo. Customer service doesn't know what the hell they are doing cuz they couldn't answer my question... I'm switching to Verizon because I'm tired of the lack of support that Sprint/Samsung/America(since international Galaxy devices have froyo) provides." Sound bout right?
Now I understand why so many Devs are starting to jump ship from the site.
/end pointless rant.
Sorry didn't mean to come off as an ass but I can say and truly mean, unless you walk a mile in their shoes... Try dealing with so many people on a daily basis asking the same damn questions. It gets a bit repetative and annoying I'd say pretty much anything to get people to shut up. Especially once they start with the I know more than you tone.
No im very patiently waiting for froyo please don't get me wrong...im very happy with my setup but you guys have explained it better from thier point of view thank you and obviously understand how it works better than a sixteen year old(Me 8/) so thanks i wasn't angry about sprint/samsung just that the guy lied thought he couldv'e said something else but w/e i undertand.
and im not a person who is always on here *****ing/moaning i try to help anyone out if i can and answer questions so hopefully our Amazing devs have more time to focus on thier hobbies and not answer questions.

I wouldn't even bother. Its to much of a headache. I've done some friends and family members and I got tired if the phone calls dating this didn't work, it didn't do this ect ect. If the person can't do it themselfs by following the instructions that are listed all over the place then they shouldn't be messing with there phones.
Fyi: I charged everyone $25 to run the one click and flash a rom, kernel, and theme they chose. $10 to flash updates

"Too much headache" because you charged so little it wasn't worth your time to provide support.
$75+ allows the person flashing to provide that support.
When I provide my services (nothing to do with phones though), it doesn't cost me anywhere near what I charge to do the actual service. It's all the pre and post work that makes it expensive AND I'm not a charity so I need to profit as well.

Damn.I wish.I knew some people who wanted their phones flashed. I'd do anyone's phone for $75.

It becomes a headache cause then people are calling you to fix things or flash new things ect ect. all the power to you if you wanna continue to get phone calls. Even if I charged $100 to root the headache will still be there.

I can see getting a bunch of calls about stuff not working, things acting up and other hassles. I'd just make sure a portion went to the dev.

Customer support doesn't have to be headache inducing (it's only stressful if you let it be), but it's certainly going to be time consuming - that's why you need to charge adequately. Not only does it make it worth your while but it also keeps you from becoming swamped and overwhelmed with requests.

That's what I was going to say. +1. If ur going to charge and use someone elses one click root without creating your own then u need to pay the creater some money also.
One click roots where put out for free so we could all do it for free. If I was a dev and I found out someone was making money off my work and not paying me my share, I would pull my software.

Seems to me if someone can't figure out how to flash their phone they are likely to need lots of hand holding. I'd flash the phone for free, but charge them $75 an hour for support afterwards.
Stupid duplicate post.....sorry
Some people underestimate the time it takes to do a "favor" for a friend.
I spent 90 minutes on the phone with my friend so he could upgrade to EB13 and then Syndicate ROM!
Flash/Root + Custom Rom = $75-$100
+ESN clone/swap = add $25
Esn clone wow am I missing something ...........time to google seach
1.2ghz super phone
High way robbery! 100$ is way too much. Id charge 25$.
Damm, all I've been charging folks I know is either some nice caribbean lunch or the smallest bottle of Baileys Irish Cream.
75 - 100...that's usury.
I have been told, (not blaming sprint employees, you guys didn't lie to or deceive anyone), and have participated in telling others that Sprint supports rooters. This change was a huge blow that was unexpected and I no longer consider Sprint as great of a carrier as I thought they were.
I got into an argument with another user over Sprint's official tolerance to users with rooted phones as posted on this site. The other user however pointed me to this website.

Our Right To Suspend Or Terminate Services

This is verbatim from the Terms of Service which take effect on 9/9/2011. This is the most disappointing thing I've read all week.
Edit: edited portion in which I appear to blame sprint employees. I appreciate you guys and I'm sorry it got worded that way. I have an issue with overreacting to bad news. I appreciate what you guys do for us.
Lol. They can but won't.

I don't know if they will or won't. The user I argued with said this was a recent change.
Edit: sorry to be so confrontational
I don't think they really care enough I think they might do it if you have something against them like hotspots hacks. I don't think just root would make them do this, there's been to many people going to stores and having root and them not caring

This change is recent and not in effect until 9/9/11. Who knows what the defacto situation will be in a month or two.

Yeah true but they'll have alot of accounts closed and alot of them will. Just go to anouther carrier, like I would flash my epic to anouther one,so they would lose way to much money and might not do it. Also they might not care about devices theyleft behind like the good ol hero and soon to be epic and evo, so all we can do is call and text to see if it works lol

(m) You have red hair our favorite sports team lost last night (o) you just don't hang out with us as much as you used to.
They're just saying they can terminate for any reason, which I'm sure was always the case. They only listed things to cover their ass if anyone complains about it.
They aren't going to, not to mention every single rom I've ever installed comes with a laundry list of warnings/ramifications. Granted those are generally phone/warranty based, and not plan based, but it's fair to say we all realize we're not doing something our carriers would be overjoyed about.
Your only reason to be concerned here is that IF they terminate for some unlisted reason, like you download so much you're costing them money as a customer, they can cite "rooted phone" as "the" reason. (Or at least a "you can't complain" reason, since it was clearly listed. Ultimately they don't owe a reason at all.)
There's largely nothing to see here. My brother has an at&t phone. Rooted apps are hidden in the market, and side loading apps is disabled without root. Sprint isn't doing anything meaningful in the "anti-root" dept.
I'm sure that's in the old t&s also. Just cya wording.

If you aren't harming the network and are paying the bills I doubt they would cut you off.

Even so, this official policy is unacceptable. Terminating insurance and warranties make sense. Terminating service is unnecessary and a stab in the back.
I remember when people used to say sprint would never terminate anyone for roaming. This was largely because until late last year and early this year they didn't. Guess what? They certainly do now. For rooting it's only a matter of time.

Right, but if they do they do. They can tell you to take a hike for ANY reason, always could, always will be able to. Nothing actually changed here, in that regard.
Terminating service makes more sense than anything. The whole point of rooting is to use the phones in a manner Sprint didn't sign on for. Thousands of people using root access to bypass their paid service to tether your phone to wifi devices "hurts" them way more than the few bucks they're out for handing someone who's been paying insurance for a year and a half a refurb after bricking their devices. You're almost certainly going to do something that legitimately breaches the TOS before you do something that has any effect on the warranty. It's way more a trumped up, lame, get of of jail free, card on the insurance/warranty than it is the service. What does a busted camera button have to do with rooting?
Edit: Put it this way. I own a business, I draw attention to the fact that I can fire you for any reason, and I post a list of a few of the things you're not supposed to do. Personal calls, eating at your desk, playing games, etc. That ISN'T saying "I'm going to fire you for making a personal call." All it's saying is don't come crying about how we fired you because we didn't like your nationality, when you habitually violated rules I laid out.
I mean, honestly, I find it hard to believe you're outraged over a meaningless word change, which is tantamount to adding "Altering your device so it can literally steal from us" to a standing "We can tell you to scram for ANY reason" line.
Edit Again: And I'm sure someone somewhere will claim they were terminated JUST for rooting. That doesn't make it true, and it wouldn't mean it's going to start happening all over. We all know we're doing something we aren't supposed to be which, best case, Sprint looks the other way on. If they wanted to stop looking the other way, that's their prerogative. It's their network.
People aren't being kicked "for roaming" they're being kicked because they're almost never not roaming. In some cases because they moved, in other cases because they never should have been Sprint customers in the first place (and might have even misrepresented something to get the deal they wanted). This is a pretty well known clause.
If sprint booted rooters they would essentially lose I'm sure at least 50% of their current business, which might not be so great if they expect to make things like... idk... profit?

Id say more like 15-20% and growing as awarness of root grows, that # might be inflated aswell, but I'm optimistic

This right here. The agreement is there as a "just in case" scenario. If you're tethering or using abnormal amounts of data, resulting in slowing neighbors using the same tower down, then this gives them the right to terminate your service. I'm sure they'll send you a note before jumping to conclusions, though.
I pull at least 15-20gb a month. And my second line is on pandora nearly 24/7. Never heard a peep from sprint about it.

I have a feeling what they're concerned about is the same thing the other carriers are concerned about. Rather than make us pay for tiered data, they make it known that if you sit at home using your phone as your only source of internet without paying the 30 bucks a month for hotspot service, downloading movies from netflix all day pulling down 500gb or so in a month, they'll check to see if you're rooted. There are a handful of people pulling down hundreds of gb of data from their phone without paying the fee, and that's just wildly unrealistic for just phone use, and takes bandwidth from the rest of us, slowing down speeds.

Why not just add the plan for tethering instead of termination? I know I only tether once in a blue moon and for me root is much more than just tethering. It's voodoo sound to make music clearer, it's roam control to get my calls through, it's titanium backup to backup and restore my data and above all it's my key to taking full control of what's rightfully mine.
There is a little secret many of you have forgotten.
Unauthorized tethering doesn't need root. PDAnet works on unrooted phones.
