Physical keyboard and battery drain - Epic 4G General

I bought the epic primarily because of the physical keyboard, but after owning it since release I am realizing the physical keyboard takes a pretty good hit on the battery.
Now I'm not sure if this is a backlight issue or that the keyboard when slid out is doing something else in the background to cause some more cpu usage.
My observations. I use the phone very heavily when plugged in and charging when I'm at work. I treat it almost as a mini laptop and always on it. Many times I can sit there using it for a half hour straight and never see the battery go up a single percentage. Display is set to auto and power saving is on and always on 4G with the keyboard timeout on 3 seconds.
Recently I started to try and change my habits and start using the phone vertically and getting really used to swype and even during the heaviest of use I notice my battery actually charging and going up in percentage at a rather acceptable rate now.
So anyone have similar experiences and trends? Is it the backlight or something else going on? I don't mind swype but I would much rather be using the physical keyboard just without having the phone constantly charging.

I don't know to much about the physical keyboard as I don't use it good much but if u want yo save more battery take the brightness off auto.

The way the keyboard is made, the CPU is constantly checking for updates on which key is pressed on the keyboard. It was made this way to be cheapest for Samsung.
Unfortunately, it has the side-effect of draining the battery while the keyboard is deployed. The battery drain speeds up as you adjust the timings not skip when you type. I usually just deploy, type what I need, and close. The next phone I get will likely not have a keyboard, and if it does, not Samsung Epic 4G battery-drainer style. I cannot recall the name, sorry.

But only when keys are actively pressed down, i.e., when one is typing.
I'm not sure to what extent that translates into noticably decreased battery life, I suppose it could. It would be worth testing battery consumption with the hardware keyboard extended but not used, versus consumption with the hardware keyboard hidden.

Obviously, the more you use your phone the warmer it gets. I've actually had my phone cut off on me because it got too hot. Are you using the wall charger or is it hooked up to your PC? on DI18, I was able to stream to bluetooth A2DP with Pandora and still charge the battery. On EC05, if I use the phone at all then it gets warm it will actually start draining the battery in the same situation. I have auto brightness of and GPS off. I have it hooked up to my PC (in both cases).

What have you done for battery life so far?

So as I mentioned in the battery life thread, in the T-Mo store, the Galaxy was reporting 2d5h on and still had 32% left in the tank. Obviously that is without SetCPU or anything and people have to have been playing with it. Even not, 30%/day not being touched is pretty good. What have you guys done for battery life? Have you noticed the "ramp up" time that is always claimed by cell phone manufacturers? Mine has sucked today but I've been beating the hell out of it. I'm going to charge it and let it stay unplugged overnight to see what the standby drain is but what is everyone doing? Have you messed with SetCPU at all?

Who cares, I'm buying 2 spare batteries from Ebay, just like I had for my G1. I can go thru all 3 batteries on my G1 while at work for 10hrs. So, I'm assuming I will get similar results.

Haha I know what you mean. That's what I love about having a removable battery. Who cares right? Swap it out and you're good.
As for my experience, the battery live has been good. The battery status bar up top is not accurate though. Similar to the reception (bar) problem how it shows no bars but you actually have great signal. I'm sure a software fix will be available soon for this. Very minor.
Here are some things you can do to improve battery life:
Remove all unnecessary widgets off your screen. I had an analog clock on there and when I removed it, I noticed better battery life just from that. No joke.
Turn off the live wallpapers. Those drain battery too.
Turn off wifi if not using it
Turn off bluetooth
Set the notifications to refresh at a longer interval instead of like every 5 mins etc...
If you're really nit picky, check "use only 2g networks..." - I personally wouldn't.
Adjust your screen to the lowest brightness. I love that it's an SAMOLED screen, because I could never get by with the lowest setting on other lcd screens.

By the way....regarding non-OEM batteries....I do notice that they are all 1500mAh (like oem), but I've always had a stigma about putting generic batteries into expensive devices.
I guess where my stigma comes from is due to my past experience with my digital camera, when I took photos of a wedding and my files got corrupted. My only explanation was because I was using a non-oem battery, because ever since that I've only used oem batteries along with that same memory card and have never had a problem since. It's been 3 years.
Since the non-oem batteries are 1500mAh, it shouldn't matter right? Now that I think about it, I do remember the camera batteries being of a higher mAh than the original battery...I know this only has to do with the capacity, but as for the voltage output, could there have been a strange surge to cause the corruption?
I know I'm just being paranoid, but just thought I'd get some input from those who know about the mechanics of batteries and the likelihood of any malfunction due to it being a cheap non-oem battery made in china.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
My biggest battery drain was use wireless networks was disabled by default. All apps that tried to get my location therefore turned on GPS. One widget was bugged and would keep using GPS, killing my battery overnight. Uninstalled the widget and enabled use wireless networks and only lost a percent or two overnight. Make sure the GPS icon is not consistently on when not using Google Maps and whatnot.

This didn't really do anything for me. Under usage it definitely uses less battery than my N1 but standby SUCKS. How did the one in the store get 2+ days. I switched from GSM/CDMA Auto PRL to just GSM Auto PRL. I am switching back. WCDMA Preferred actually got me better battery on the N1.

The Amps and Volts are important, but in a battery is only a small part of it. The quality matters, the drain matter, it's max input matters, it's sensitivity to fluctuation, sensitivity to over charge... etc etc etc...
That being said, most modern devices these days have a lot of internal fail safes that should try to stop anything crazy from happening... because really the battery could have any amount of amp hours rated to it, how much it can and will output is what matters though. You could theoretically make a battery the size of a car battery for the thing that with 1500AH (aka 1,500,000mAH) would give you a retarded amount of standby time as long as it was rated about the same on everything else... although charge that thing wrong and you would have a pretty cool fireball...
an app called juice defender seems to work pretty good for me on the vibrant (ultimate juice is the paid version with all the features). I previously used it on my cliq and had good results also.
what it does is disables apn and/or wifi and you choose what intervals it comes back on. example - you could have it come on every 15 minutes for 1 minute at a time to complete necessary syncs. you can also set up night schedules etc.
I would recommend this app if you're lookin to save some battery. it also has a little widget to show you how much battery you have saved. not sure how accurate that is though. good luck!

I've used this but it is a little buggy. I also need live data. Point is results shouldn't be this inconsistent. I need to figure out what that store was doing!

I stopped caring. As long as it has enough to charge to stay on between unplugging it in the morning, and plugging it up at night, I'm golden. I've had the phone since launch, and I've only charged it up twice, so that's about two days between charges. I got it with a roughly 60% charged battery.
I use BatteryLife by Curvefish to see my battery usage.

Galaxy S/Vibrant charger is 5v @ .7A. I think I read that the N1 wall charger is 5v @ 1A. It'll charge a little faster, and will probably heat up the battery more, but it shouldn't destroy the phone. I'm sure somebody smarter will correct me, though.

Man this is the most frustrating issue EVER.
I'm running SRF 1.1.0
I have a 3500 mAh battery.
For some Farking reason, if the battery is under 50% and I get a call. It will RANDOMLY beep LOW BATTERY and turn off, in the middle of the farking call!!!
You turn it back on and it'll have 40+ % charge left!!!

After watching the 25 how to videos, I fixed almost everything that pissed me off, but this one thing drives me bonkers!!!!
I think that's the battery. Is its a yoo-bao from china (cheapie) or a good brand from a reputable source(sedio)? I have that problem with all the cheapies I bought on ebay.

It's not just the battery. My stock phone and rom does it too when the battery gets to 15%. When it reboots it has 20 or 30%.
This phone should never have been released with such a serious bug.

Now I dont normally let my phone get down to 0% but yeah i know i've gone WAYYYYYYY past even 10% and the phone hasn't done this. Stock battery not extended.

it's a cheapy battery.
However, it's also a bug somewhere in some software...
If it hits 15% when u are NOT on a call, the phone doesn't shut off. It's only when you're actually talking that it does it.
I'm surprised to hear STOCK people saying it happens to them... When I had my phone stock it didn't do this. I assumed it was a ROM issue.
I would try calibrating... I believe there's an actual app in the market to do everything for you. I'm fairly certain its free, so ill post a link, but if its not, I apologize, and well get a mod to take it out.

I love how people assume I sprinkle magic fail dust on my ROMs.
Charge to 100% with the device off and wipe battery stats in CWM.

Yes. I've calibrated my battery. I have seen a couple threads on the issue. I have repeated the issue on several roms and modems. Happens every time i'm on a call and the battery gets to 15%. That makes it serious since it is a phone after all. What if I was talking to 911?

Not just YOUR rom, I've read that this is a problem on all different ROM's including the stock one!

What I'm hoping for is I can figure out what you guys are running that doesn't crash on you when the low battery beep happens.
I think this is a battery issue. I never had this problem with stock battery and it happened twice on cheap 3000 ma battery I bought. Returned the battery and got another one (same kind) and this one works fine. I think this is a manufacturing problem with cheap batteries. When you look at reviews of more expensive ones online, you never see anything about this problem.
I have found the solution! It turns out that our phones, much like a simple light bulb, just don't function when they don't have enough juice...
Since I can't modify a light bulb to magically require less power, the only solution I have found is to provide the specified power level. I have applied this same method to my phone - when the battery gets close to that magic threshold, all I do is - get ready for this - charge the phone again!
Seriously, though - everything takes power to operate, and a low battery can't put out the same current and voltage as a fully- or even half-charged battery. This isn't a bug, it's just a fact of life (with current technology, anyway). Who here complains when their almost-dead AA batteries can't power an Xbox 360 controller? Most of us just replace them with fresh ones (or charge them) and keep going.

This! Cheap batteries are never worth the money. I bought some cheap chinese rechargeable packs for my 360 controllers... they ALWAYS show low charge even if I just charged to full. Same deal with cheap chinese cell phone batteries.
I am sure the battery calibration is way off with one of the cheapies.

Ok Mr. Smarty pants. You are not understanding the problem. It happens with the stock battery too.
The SECOND you hit 15% while on the phone and get the battery low warning, the phone turns off, MID CALL. You turn the phone back on and it will last hours, even on the stock battery.
If it hits 15% without being on a call, it does not shut down.
That is the real problem here.
This has happened to me once , what could be the cause ? Defective phone or software?

You mean just like a 360 controller can have enough juice to turn on, but not enough to actually play? Or how a flashlight will be too dim to be worth it when the batteries get low?
Would it be better if the battery ran like a champ right up to the second that it shuts off without warning? That would fix your problem - no notification when the battery is low (the sudden shut off can't be avoided until we find an unlimited energy source small enough to fit in our phones)

J3ff, it's likely the cheap battery. Here's why:
Charge level is a simple linear voltage function. Our phones consider 4.2V to be full charge (100%), and empty to be around 3.6V (0%). The voltage drops roughly linearly between these two values as charge is consumed.
The kicker is this: The voltage seen at the battery terminals is also affected by the interaction between the internal resistance of the battery and the instantaneous load, or current draw. For electronics buffs, this is the classic V=IR, and what happens is that the voltage on the battery will drop by IR in addition to it's unloaded voltage level due to whatever the stored charge state is.
Good quality batteries have a very low internal resistance, and will not drop much voltage due to an increased load. Crappy batteries are just the opposite, and even though they do carry the charge storage (most of the time) advertised, they are only suitable for low load applications.
What's happening is you have a battery with a horribly high internal R. When you make a phone call, the load increases A LOT -- transmit power goes way up. This if why phones get hot when talking on them -- they really suck the juice.
As a consequence, because of the high resistance, voltage from the battery takes a nosedive. At an "idle" reading of 50% (3.9V, thereabouts) you're probably dropping more than 0.3V when the load goes up during a call, the phone panics, and shuts down to protect the battery (LiIon doesn't like to be discharged below 3.3V, and can be damaged).
When you reboot, the high load is gone, so the voltage shows higher again, reflecting the fact that there is truly still plenty of charge stored and available. The battery simply can't handle gulps, but only slow sipping.
High internal R is one of the most common reject reasons from mfgs, and those batts are sold on the cheap to dealers and distributors in a secondary market. Honest ones then resell into appropriate application spaces where low-current is all that is needed. Most, however, are not that scrupulous, and sell right back to the same market, leaving behind puzzled and unhappy customers.

Battery consumption Tablet/Dock Tips for Better battery life.

So I thought of making a thread on your experiences with the battery consumption ratio depending on use etc. My main reason of doing this is because I suspect my dock has a bad battery and I would like to see you guys experience with your tablet/dock combo.
Noticed much difference between power saving, balanced and performance mode?
Processor wise I know each has a rating of 1ghz,1.1ghz and 1.2ghz. I dont see how this would make a big impact in battery life. Now I dont know if these also regulate anything else than the cpu frequency as to make it a noticeable thing.
Whats's the ratio of your Tablet/dock charging? ( what I mean is once your tablet reaches 70% and dock kicks in to charge how much battery would it be left on the dock after tablet reaches 90% wich is point where dock stops charging..
If I leave it charging without using it my dock is left with about 55% battery.
Last night I left the tablet at 52% and the dock fully charged so I left the tablet in sleep mode and charging with the dock. when I come to check on it battery was at 90% dock at 25% . I'm curious if the scaling is alright or am I having a performance loss.
I noticed the dock discharging while it is not supplying battery to the table ( By the time my tablet reaches 70% for the dock to kick in to charge the dock has gone down to 98%).
The biggest power drain is definitely screen brightness though this IPS display seems really nice indoors no more than 20% brightness seems to be needed.
I would also like it if we could post your advice for a better battery life on these wonderful tablets to later on make a recollection of all and post them on 2nd Post

Well this is what I got in my head so far if your willing to post any other experiences or advice I would gladly appreciate it.
I'm somewhat of a complete noob, I'm here to learn and share my experience with other users.
Battery life tips.
1. If distance is not an issue use bluetooth tethering instead of wifi tethering. It consumes less battery on both devices.
2.Try using the brightness level you need not max it out like most people do.
3.If your an active user on wi-fi, turn on setting for wifi not go to sleep. Every time tablet goes to sleep mode it would be disabling and enabling Wi-fi wich in many devices this has proven to consume more battery than keeping an active connection.
This list will keep growing as more tips are posted.

For whatever reason, the dock and tablet together equals massive battery drain in sleep mode, where the tablet on its own only uses one percentage point over night. The majority of both batteries are drained if docked in sleep mode.
I charged the dock to full on its own and unplugged it and will check this evening to see status.

Well when I am not using my tablet for sleeping or working I usually just shut it down. Doesn't make sense to me to just always have it on. I'm usually away from it for long periods of time and it doesn't take long to boot up. Plus if I go to use it later in the day or a few days later I'm not looking for my charger because I fully charged it before shutting it down. I keep a laptop/computer mentality with it where if I'm not using it turn it off.

Well as I said before on ur thread I would replace it in ur case though a corrupted firmware could cause that. On my g2x a bad Install once drained my battery like crazy so might want to try that. I think u need to unlock though

I do not think there is any firmware in the dock itself. I think it is a pure slave device that is controlled by the tablet. The tablet on own does not have a drain issue, but when docked they do together.
On my second dock now with same result.
The tablet and dock together ironically seems to have the same battery life in sleep mode as my Q2670 Lenovo 14" gaming laptop = bad I was hoping the dock and tablet combo would be just as efficient as an Android tablet on own and avoid having to cold start when using it (that seems so Windows to me).

Well in my case I am replacing a netbook.
I use it for a lot of things like Torrenting, college notebook,games, media,internet browsing etc. I give it its full use.
Asus already knows about this problems. Its due to bad software in the keyboard dock (yes there is software for it/ only Asus can access it.) Its actually B.S. the only fix is to send dock to Asus and pay shipping urself. And they'll fix and send back. Prob about a month later
Or you can use the tweeked build.prob like I did. Shuck will allow deep sleep while docked.
Deep sleep = no battory drain
Just be careful with changing build.prob
read 5 times fully can't go wrong lol

Are there docks that do not have the problem that can be identified? This seems a silly miss by Asus.
Both docks I got from two retailers have the issue.
Also, do you need root? Any guide to fixing and links documenting the problem are appreciated.

Ive also tryed returning dock for a new one. No luck
I'm not sure but I think the docks only work as suppossed to on. 17 firmware. That's my best guess. Just look under development section. Only post by seanzscreams can't miss it for tweaked build prop.
Believe u need root. Or process alot easier if you have it. Just be careful if you don't follow instructions exactly can brick. But if you do everything which isn't much and not hard at all even for a noob

My dock seems too be working just fine and if this where such a common problem it would be everywhere.... im half sure the problem is ur guys tablet as it seems tablet controls functions on dock...

Separated, my tablet consumes 1% in ten hours and the dock about the same when in sleep mode. When together over the same time, they collectively drain almost 70%. The dock is dead and the tablet with the rest.

No kitties here. As stated, they both work fine on their own and have had two docks. Testing another 300 yielded the same result.
The problem is the two pieces together. I think the sleep mode is borked when docked and bleeding power at a non user level.

So... back to battery saving tips.
I get scary long battery life by just reducing screen brightness. Would like to mess with build.prop but haven't yet. I know there is replace n go's out there but I want to find out which settings do what specifically. Still looking for more information on the subject.

I give this about 8-9 hours daily on 1 charge of tab\ dock.

My battery life:
Docked and using fairly heavy- about ten hours
Docked and in sleep mode- Both batteries dead in 14 hours
Undocked and using fairly heavy about seven hours
Undocked for over 12 hours tablet = 98% Another time was 99%
Undocked, the dock went 24 hours = "100"%
Ironically, my problem is with the device docked in sleep mode. Two docks, two tablets- same issue. No info showing an app or media task causing it, so lower level bios issue. Both tabs newest firmware, no clue what the docks are/were. Have one each now.
Those having problems, check "Settings/Asus Customised Setting/Mobile Dock Battery Saving Mode"
Enable it and see if it matters

Nexus 4 battery the first week

Hey guys. I'm wondering how much better the battery has gotten since the first week y'all got it, to now.
For me I'm satisfied with the battery and I've had it for 4 days. I get about 2-2.5 hours screen on time with fairly heavy internet usage, texting, etc.

Are you taking any measures to save battery life, like certain screen brightness, disabling of certain features or radios, undervolting or CPU/Governor changes, etc?
First thing I installed on mine ( haven't had mine a week yet ) was Battery Monitor Widger Pro, since I've used that on my past devices when I was testing out generic batteries (speaking of which the 8$ ebay 3800mAh on my Desire-Z is still kicking strong after a year).
Problem with estimates, is that they are basically just that, and the difference between browsing on mobile vs browsing on wifi or mix, and your reception quality can also have an impact on your battery. (in the end, your screen is the biggest impact).
Mine lately, say if I had it charged at 100% , it'll take about 2 hours on mobile to get to 91%, with the screen being on about 25%-35% of that time (auto-brightness), receive/send text, take out of pocket to check email or facebook notifications, and so forth. Which would normally show as screen 30%, Google services 13%, Wifi 9% (when I had it on between house and destination). Phone idle 8%, Android OS 7% etc.
The widget I mentioned earlier can basically monitor your draw from time to time and if the screen was off or on and such during those times (default interval on it if using a widget is around 10 minutes on the logging, shorter may actually impact the battery it's monitoring oddly enough)
PS: The other day when I actually drained it down to 0% it took about 5-6 hours

I had about 3-4.5 hours of screen time other moderate to heavy usage on my first week as I was testing it's battery life. As that I just used my phone under light to moderate usage. My brightness level is always at it's lowest but when I'm outside I turn it up to about 50%. I rarely play games on my device. I read a lot on my phone. I use my phone to record lectures in class and do a bit of homework on it. 7 months later and I'm pretty much doing the same. I have a custom kernel installed and I'm really confidence about it. I carry a external battery pack with me all the time but I hardly use. After having a custom kernel for the past 7 months I can say battery life has been relativity the same screen time wise. I learned how to manage my apps so they won't prevent my phone from sleeping to save power. Your mileage will vary depending on what you're doing on your phone and how you manage your device. Cell service is crucial to the phone. If you're in area with little to no service your device will use up more power to stay connected. This is when "Airplane mode" comes in handy.

Nah. All stock, not rooted yet, auto-brightness, No auto sync. I don't get very good service at my work and I was about 28% without service during the time I was there. I would get on facebook and message people on facebook and text, surf the internet etc because it was slow. I had maybe 2 hours screen time and 8% battery life when I left work. It was probably 9 hours off the charger. Here. I'll post a screen shot after this post (On my computer right now)

One of the benefits to custom roms (though 'stock' on a nexus is well AOSP so...) is the ability to tweak that stuff to finer details, top it off with a custom kernel and can optimize even further. Just a matter of how far you want to take it.
I have a history of immediately rooting anything I get my hands on, so I tend to have very little experience with stock. But the Nexus devices are probably the only ones I could survive having stock (but rooted) as opposed to say touchWhiz on samsung.
I can say that this phone charges FAAAAAAST.

At least all the available kernels work just fine with AOSP. (Francos seems to be pretty popular for battery, I prefer bricked though on both my N4 and N7).

Guess tonight I'm going to work on getting it drained down to 0% just remembered it was my N7 that I did a full cycle on with monitoring, I haven't done so yet to the N4.
PS: I usually do a dual-graph (mV and mA), but in this screenshot you can see generally speaking with my current configuration, I tend to drain around 200-300 mA screen on, and around -20-50 with it off.
PS#2 : It only went up to the -400 or so mA on the top right because I had changed my screen brightness to about half instead of autobrightness.

Sweep2Wake is kind of nice too, you just slide accross the screen to turn it on without having to touch the power button (And yes your phone is still asleep doing this, it just works off interupts.)
other kernels can be a bit more involved, such as being aimed towards overclocking the CPU or GPU, or adding in extra features not normally found in stock, and so forth. I've had the best luck with Bricked and Francos'

Yep, if you have a widget on the home screen (I usually do 2x1 size) it'll collect every 10 mins by default. If you don't use a widget you'd have to check a box in preference to monitor without widget or it won't log times (note for example the missing 'blocks' from my history log).

Speaking of battery, anyone ever gotten more than say 800mA charge on their N4? Cuz even on my old Desire-Z if I plugged it into a 2.1A charger it would actually charge up around 1300-1500mA, but with the Nexus 4 seems that even on a 2.1A port it rarely charges more than 500-600mA.
It'll probably become more accurate once I actually drain it down to 0% and have the widget record it's history from 0% to 100% since it bases a lot of it's mA estimates off that (ie: off the rate of decrease of the battery's mv since batteries typically have a certain voltage once they hit near 0% and when they're at 100%, comebine that with what it knows the battery's mA to be it can determine the charge/discharge based off that).

Just in the last 2 hours or so, probably 30-45 minutes. I was in the car so it wasn't coming on all that often. Since I actually have the widget on my home screen now, I'll just post an update again probably in the morning as I play with the phone some more, maybe play a game or two (I'll set a Market in the battery history before I start and after I end it).
Far as figuring it out, it's pretty easy since most of it is already set up by default once you open it. You can basically just pop a 2x1 widget on the home screen and just leave it.
My battery life has improved drastically by just sticking with one setup and letting the phone get used to it. That means keep the same rom and kernel so the phone settles in and gets used to it. After a few cycles your usage should increase.
I recommend straight CM 10.1 with Franco kernel.
Also use 2g instead of HSPA+ when you're not using data to save power.
If you're using touch control, don't, it drains more power for sure.
Undervolting helps too.

The app 'touch control' , many nexus 4 owners use it to wake and lock the phone using touch gestures in place of the traditional power button. In my usage it definitely drains the battery quicker.

Oh you mean like Sweep2Wake in the Bricked Kernel I'm using, except that doesn't use any battery cuz that's in the kernel using interrupts rather than an app that would keep the phone awake. (course that's all it does too, wake, nothing more sophisticated than that).
But yea I didn't know about that app.

op2 owners: any regrets?

If coming from op1 or any other flagship device?
SO far, none. The OPO was the best phone I ever owned. I just got the OPT and after 24 hours it has amazed me. Some glitches here and there but nothing a software OTA cannot fix.
None. Certainly not with all the development going on here already. I'll enjoy the heck out of my phone.
My gripes since I had to buy on swappa.com, as I ordered on 9/1 and still don't have the actual phone.
1) Exchange only through Gmail. Poor implementation.
2) Can't see battery as percentage. Prefer time in middle on top.
3) slider notification should be reversed
4) no stock Gallery app (only accessible through photo app)
The phone is beautiful but let's be honest here, it is a buggy mess!

Well to be honest, point 1 & 2 are the same for stock Android. What do you mean with 3 exactly?
And actually, you can change the battery as percentage. Head to Settings > Battery and tap the battery icon next to the menu icon. It gives you inter alia an option to show percentage.
#3 would be the physical notifications slider on the left.

In my opinion the placement is perfect, also for the other buttons. That's personal preference of course. You're welcome by the way.
My stock messaging app doesn't consolidate my conversations properly. It creates to separate threads for one conversation, it shows one thread for what I text and a separate thread for my friend's responses??? Does anyone know how to fix this so the "back and forth" is in one thread?
Currently the OPT has a big failure that may force me to sell it. My contacts are only synced with 'mobile' to my car radio. So I am forced to choose of 6 'mobile' numbers from a list of only ONE mobile number of my wife. Not really a big bug but a total fail for me because I daily call my wife from the car while driving home. This is the one feature that really has to work but it does not.
With the ONE all works as you could expect. The Parrot Asterroid syncs without a fail and offers me the numbers correctly tagged with 'mobile', 'work', 'home' and so on. The TWO fails on this. So not really my phone atm.
no regrets. just little bugs that need to be addressed. fingerprint scanner works perfect for me also

I agree. I've reset my fingerprints to the way I hold the phone usually. It's still hit or miss. If i've just been using the phone, it works. If I leave the phone to sit for some time, i need to use the power button to wake it, then the sensor works.

Mine works fine as long as I don't wake the device before scanning, if I do it doesn't respond for some reason lol. Software issue though, I'm sure they'll fix it soon.

For e, battery is a big disappointment so far. I hope with custom ROMs and kernels battery life should improve. Other than that, pretty much satisfied. However, does not feel like much of an upgrade over the one.
Battery is a big one for me as well, but I know future releases will solve that. The other thing would be heat. In 10mins of having the screen on, it jumps from ~26 degrees (where it idles) to ~40 degrees.
I'm surprised about the battery complaints. It's been really good for me. I can easily get 5-6 hours sot. Today I'm at 1hr 18mins sot with 78% battery left and exactly 14 hours since I unplugged it from the charger. Maybe I'm just lucky

I'm coming from a nexus 6 and you can really tell the difference between the screens the op2 looks washed out compared to the QHD screen on the nexus but apart from that I love it but I will still go for a moto x style.

very happy with it. Fingerprint scanner works 100% for me, much better than the crappy one of my previous s6 edge.
Only complaint is contact sharing with my car bluetooth makes the car system crashes......
