The boot loader will never be broken and the x10 will always be dead in the water.
Finding the right info on any parts in the X10 is a pain in the butt.
And starting a thread that is working on any "locked" features begins a maul of trolling and flaming.
It has made me hate not just my x10 but "apple, sony, se & android"
This phone was supposed to be my pride and joy for my birthday and all it's doing now is make me feel sad.
Why is it so hard? why is all the info on everything within the device so deeply "Hush, hush" ?
What is happening?
Why are the other devices getting unlocked and not the x10?
Why are the other devices getting 3.0 and not the x10?
Why do i have to feel like i have a sniper rifle pointed at my head?
This phone.. this phone has awesome hardware and it's being squashed to be weak.
I can't help feel that alot of so called users here have a different mission from what x10 developers are trying to do here at XDA.
You said you were leaving xda and giving away your X10....so why do you care anyways???

Ok, fair enough
Yes, the X10 was released on a already outdated OS.....but it is what it is.
And for a phone that was released on 1.6 and went to 2.1 and now soon going to 2.3 gingerbread.....i dont think thats bad at all.
When 2.3 is released by SE, all the devs here will be able to give us better gingerbread roms via xrecovery. Probably with everything working perfectly. At the same time, they'll be working on making the custom kernal flawless. Im a happy user if you ask me.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Bootloader's been bypassed, which is as good as it getting cracked.
SE is releasing 2.3, on a handset that is 1.5 years old and not even their flagship device anymore. In such a fast moving world, that is admirable.
Custom ROMs are still aplenty, and Trip has even made breakthroughs with Camera and Video camera in gingerbread. for a 1.5 year phone, the X10 has a huge community.
The X10 is now an old phone, but it was ahead of its time. Even today its specs are great, and it's probably one of the best value for money phones out there.
I really don't understand what you're saying, because all you're saying makes no sense or is wrong.
Android 3.0 is primarily a Tablet OS, it's silly to put it on the X10. YET, some devs have managed to do that!
There's an X10 parts thread right here in the forum, but I'm not sure how that'll help you.
ok, go, fine, but you're just fooling yourself. The X10 has an amazing community with some of the best devs out there. To be able to make such a security-ridden device great is a challenge, and they went up to it and did it.
The next couple of months is going to breath even more life into the X10 as more functions are added to the custom kernels. I'm sure that we will get 16M colors soon (hell, even SE might put it in the 2.3 update)
The X10 is going out with a bang, and even in the twilight of its 'career' is still strong out there and will continue to become better and better as it ages.
Ok.. cool.
But i was informed by stvmook that the custom kernel has limits.
Of course that bypass isn't as good as crack... because this method still depends on /system folder - if it's corrupted, recovery is gone, custom boot.img is gone...
However, as always, zdzihu came with good news - he revealed all partitions on NAND via custom kernel - including bootloader. Let's hope something will happen

If you felt like this now.
Compare that to me when I got this phone the first day it came out.
No root, no 2.1, nothing.
I would say that X10 have came a long way for a phone that was completely locked down.
I still believe that further developments will be made.
However, I think that the phone is great and does everything that I want as of current development.
It really depends on what your idea of a "perfect phone"

Well, you raised a good question. I will try and answer that.
Large corporations need to feed on power by having control of everything.
They need control because they don't want people to have freedom with their devices. If your X10 can do everything, then how are they going to earn the same amount profit in the future.? This is called "planned obsolescence". It is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Phones are purposely design less than perfect, so they have a limited life. This is one of the reasons why our x10 was locked down. I am glad that sony decided to free their future devices. I think they want us to buy an arc.

It is the completely the works of the devs here that we are able to have a decent phone.
Thinking back on the days with 1.6 and no dual touch. It was just disgusting and I thought Sony was bloody evil. The wait for the 2.1 was just a killer. But hey, I made the choice to purchase this phone. So I ain't complaining.
At least Sony learned that if they kept the things they were, they will lose all their fan base.
Now i'm rocking wolfbreak's 2.2 rom and I love it a lot.

Every phone is planned to be like that, even the latest versions of xperia or even iphones. That's why I don't think it's necessary to catch on to the "latest technology" which isn't exactly the "latest". They always have to be one step ahead of us. This is the whole point of profiteering. They've got the technology, we don't. This is where we are at and it will continue on.
For the post after that, I would love some cheese with that.
Preferably, bleu cheese. The stinkiest of them all!

I voted too, but only because the Pre is a far superior device and only because I couldn't vote for the iPhone. Just kidding! Geez! Calm Down!!! Seriously, how can the Pre be beating an N1?!?!

Because Pre owners have nothing better to do and look for voting sites for their phones. Or because we N1 users know that it is superior to the Pre or the idud and we don't want our competitors to feel crushed ;-).
I voted for the N1 of course. Sill we are way behind, lets catch up.
voted for the n1.
****ty contest from a ****ty mag... big surprise?
the pre is a joke... ive yet to talk to someone who actually enjoys their pre... and i know a few people who have also broke that ****ty slider on the phone... its so poorly made i cant believe they would release a device that has the fragility of my grandmas good china
You can vote more then once
i lol'd

odd i voted and after a few times it didnt increment, the n1 vote nor the pre+ vote
i not like i didnt think this e-peen contest voting thing was crap anyway but i think this is rigged, ive never even heard of this site

Ah... so Verizon's website is wrong... (it lists 384mb) considering this for a work phone, but was put off by the "apparent" lack of memory.

325mb of ram
1.3gb of program storage
105mb of personal data storage
It is not a lack of memory at all. Android does a fine job of managing the ram. I have a crap load of apps and games and it only occupies 300mb of the program storage. The ram level is something you will never notice. Unlike windows.
good day. From my voodooed Fascinate using the XDA app.
Sorry, but I disagree from experience. On my Evo I was running Eclair CM which was limited to 3??MB due to Android 2.1. Once I upgraded to Froyo CM 6.0 which opened up all 512MB that the phone had I noticed a huge difference in apps not having to close all of the time. I noticed this on my N1 as well with 2.1 vs 2.2. I may just have to find a way to get my Evo on VZW. :-(
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Oh, I forgot to mention that you're right about Android doing an excellent job with memory management, I'm just saying that I notice a big difference with 512MB of RAM as far as usability.

The first explanation is what I was referring to:
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/09/04/how-much-ram-does-the-samsung-fascinate-have/
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Its 512 but the other site explanation is wrong as hell. It has reserved ram for several things, not just video. It wont be any better with froyo.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
The phone actually does have a full 512. Like adrynalyne said tho a portion of it is used for things such as the cpu, amongst.other things
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
To the best of my knowledge, this phone has 512 MB of RAM total, with 128 MB being reserved for the GPU, and another chunk reserved for other system stuff. ALL the Galaxy S phones are setup this way, not just the Fascinate. Verizon just chose to list the specs differently. And btw, even the Droid X, which is advertised as having 512 MB, does not actually report that it has that much (more like 488, I think), because some is reserved by the system.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Here's to hoping it really does have 512... As I'm getting one as my work phone...
As an aside, I heard a rumor from our verizon rep that froyo was expected for this phone in november...
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Froyo is slated for all galaxy phones in November. Samsung verified that today. Also it has 512mb RAM but 128 dedicated to gpu this phone will have the best multimedia solution of any phone on the market. The screen is awesome without a doubt

wow, it never fails to come up. This is one marketing blunder.
They should never have said the RAM amounts because people who aren't technical are getting caught up in the tech. Most of the iphone and some android users just don't understand the specs. They see it as the iphone gets 30 miles per gallon and now Verizon is saying that the Galaxy S only gets 10 miles per gallon. They don't look at how an O.S. uses it or that every Galaxy S gets the same. How and why the Video CPU uses some, why it's frozen for the video, what the RAM stands for, why its' Random access versus read only (ROM).. none of that.
SO lets leave it here. If you don't understand RAM vs ROM, why FROYO's code is optimized to handle more RAM, why M$ XP only truly allocates and sees 640k of ram (less than 1 mb), the difference between 8 and 16 bit access, and have not developed anything using code, then don't question the Fascinate RAM.

 to think how much bashing the X10 got especialy in X10 vs Desire discussions, X10 was rippd to shreads just cause it had 2.1, who would've thought in the end the X10 would be the better device to go with?
Loving my X10 even more now!
Don't forget we have not received Gingerbread 2.3.3 yet
Yeah. I know at least a couple of people from this forum who sold x10 for a desire. Once got into a heated discussion about what is better htc+desire or SE+x10. I guess it's an open subject until today . But don't think this news will matter that much. Most people are using custom roms amyway.

isnt cm7 stable already available for the desire? cant see them needing the update to be fair, but surely they could put the htc sense ona diet and give a proper update without making that much difference.glad i chose the x10 over the desire,no comparison imho

True. They could have given gb with sense 1.x if they wanted to. But looks like they won't be doing that. Most people won't care for the update anyway. There are already tons of roms and customs kernels available for them.
you cant possibly say it kills it,because it doesnt. arent they the same processor? so u can argue you have abit more ram but like myself i have 180mb of free ram all the time so it never makes no difference to me.the screen imo isnt any better the the saturation and the colours are much more true on the x10i and the visibility in the sunlight on the x10i is faaaar superior. im not getting into no argument. but i think each have equal pros n cons

Plus you can do a LOT more optimizations due to the open bootloader.
The screen isn't any better? 16 mill colors isn't any better?
I have used both extensively, (I own an x10) and without bias I will admit the desire kills the x10 in everything but appearance and camera.
People are struggling hard to try to claim everything se is better for some reason, like the arc vs. sgs2 thread on here.
It's laughable at best

if you read the forum you would see the bootloader will be open when we receive 2.3.3 and the 16 million colours.we can and i have overclocked.the battery life on the desire sucks so does the gps so its not the perfect phone, i looked into them when i got my x10i and i picked the x10 even when it had 2.1 which says alot

its the SAME processor!!! do you not understand that, so when we get 2.3.3 OFFICIAL and the unlocked bootloader we will be able to overclock as much as you and your beloved desire. il be happy too admit if you had a proper point in why the desire is so amazing, maybe you get 2500 quadrant scores!
I went the opposite way last week, had a desire for a year, sold it and got an x10i and 50 quid change. Im loving the bigger screen and better camera as well as more internal space. The battery life on wolfs tw007 rom is exceptional compared with the desire, i loved my htc but this certainly does not feel like a downgrade, they are very much on par in a lot of ways imho

I have an inspire now and its a big upgrade! Multi touch, unlocked bootloader, 16mil colours, and bigger screen! The inspire is also supported by many devs. I gave my dad my beloved x10 and he asks how to fix this and that and its weird having to use the x10. Also, I can hear people when I'm in a call
I was in dilemma between the Desire and the X10 a year ago
and decided to go for the X10 because of the looks and the camera.
It comes down to personal preference, but I don't like flashing all the time,
I like to try new things but most of all, my phone is my personal phonebook/notepad/message center and so much more, so my data are precious to me
and I like to have something stable that works. And at the end of the day,
knowing myself, the only way I won't get bored is if I like what I see.
Having said that, of course Desire is a good phone, the easily unlockable bootloader is its greater plus against the X10.
But for the reasons I mentioned above, when my father asked if he could have my phone, I gave it to him gladly and went ahead and bought me a new one, in white!
Really, there's no need for heated debates. It's all about what each person wants, needs and likes. Peace!

The desire is better, why are people even debating that, your silly person if you honestly believe x10 is a better phone. Acquire an education redneck

The X10 is better
The ONLY thing that made Desire better was latest updates, it has lost that now, as for developer support, X10 has plenty and can be overclocked, but why do all that when we are getting an OFFICIAL 2.3.3 ROM with the kernel to go with
The X10 has a better display in terms of quality and true 16:9 wide screen ratio.
X10 has the far better Camera plus better video recording
X10 has a larger battery with longer uptime
X10 has a better design
and now X10 will have a later version of the OS, im so glad i phjckd it over the Desire back in July, i was going to take the Desire due to latest updates, so if i had it now i would be SOOO pissed lol.
Would hate to be at the mercy of custom ROMs so early lol.

If the desire is better, what are you doing in the X10 forums? Do you think you can change people's opinions here?

he is sharing his "opinion"
I sold my Desire for X10 because i didn't like its battery, it drain too quick for my use, they both have pros and cons, & its all depends on personal choice, thats why so many companies are making different models !

You dig the Desire, we get that and we feel for you.
You could be a little more polite though, wouldn't hurt.

Yeah NOW it will get 2.3.3, desire had it for months now.... TONS of roms, including a fully working arc rom lol
The display on the desire is much nicer, 16 million slcd vs. 65k tft????
The battery while on custom roms is about the same
X10 does have a better camera.
If you like modding your phone (you're here aren't you?), the desire is the better choice.

Apparently, our Streak is the first Android device to be officially supported for accessing secure government data. Too little, too late?
It would be nice to think that taking that into consideration that DELL would maybe continue development on the Streak...
Or maybe even go as far as to actually continue work on that dual core Opus One that we all have yearned for.
The Galaxy Note at 5.3" is just a little on the big side, although I haven't had one in my hands, but my Streak is the perfect size.
We can dream can't we...
So that's the reason.
I think that's a stupid reason.
I agree that Dell Streak 5 is perfect size.

Comparison of the two:
Galaxy Note xxxxxx Dell Streak
5.78 xxxxxxxxxxxxx 6.02
3.27 xxxxxxxxxxxxx 3.11
0.38 xxxxxxxxxxxxx 0.40
Metric:
146.85 xxxxxxxxxxx 153
82.95 xxxxxxxxxxxx 79
9.65 xxxxxxxxxxxxx 10
Other than the Galaxy Note being 0.16" or 3.95mm wider it is smaller overall, but packs a bigger screen.
As per one of the comments at http://androidandme.com/2011/11/new...entagon-for-government-use-the-dell-streak-5/ They are getting official GB ROM? By any chance we are also going to get that?
Maybe Dell will revive it...Fingers & toes are crossed!

I think it's just another example of how Dell is missing out on a huge opportunity.
Kinda Expected
I can say this.. Dell has a play in the DoD for sure... Trust me..
With regards to the OP:
Engadget demoed the venue having the same software loaded a couple weeks back, as the S5 and venue are really similar it's prob the same software set.
I guess it makes sense that they want to look for a US based company for this since it simpilifies policy vs using a foreign company's products (assuming they use it at all)
There arnt many US based device manus afterall, moto and dell are pretty much the only game in town. The Streak isnt particularly secure though, it's bootloader is unencrypted/not-locked.
Though still this doesnt make that much sense: the S5/7/venue are manufactured and maintained by qisda, which is a taiwanese company. I cant say for sure which does what exactly software wise but qisda does most of the rom, but I doubt that dell does it by themselves 100% stateside.
I dont know how moto does it but dell isnt 100% usa designed, though dell austin was the lead at least in the initial design ( i think)
