wassup thebest1. just to let you know, i got an unmodded, stock 6.5 hd2. i got a questions please. will removing startup items increase batt life and performance?
Only knowns issues by removing it are some apps that i notice. For instance holding the power button for 3 sec quicklist (Shutdown)app will appear. Now if you remove the apps from startup folder, holding the power button for 3 sec it will take about 6-7 sec for the quicklist app to appear. Same goes with Comm Manager, it will open automaticall. But by removing the apps from startup application it will take about 6-7 sec for Comm Manager to open. I replace those 2 apps with psshutxp and cookies home tab. I hope this helps.

so in other words, removing these startup items wont affect batt life or perforrnance. just that some programs will start a few secs longer.
Thats Correct. It will not affect battery life or performance.
I could be wrong but I think taking things off of your Start up has bound to help some. I mean for one when you first boot up hour device it uses the start up to know what programs it is suppose to initialize and start up and let continue to run in the background. So it would help a small bit by your device not having to start so much up and taking less time to boot. After all boot up is when your device has some of it's highest power consumtion. Also the less things running in the background the less the processor has to work and the less power consumption the device has. This is why turning HTC Sense off helps save battery because even though you canxsee it on the home screen. It is still a programthat is running in the background cause it is not part of the actual Windows OS but a theme or graphic UI for the device, now granted HTC Sense is one of the biggest power consuming programs compared to others. But thos is because HTC Sense recquires alot of,memory and resources of the device where most other programs don't. Remember I am only using HTC Sense as an example.
When you take the programs off of start up they take longer to come up because the have to cold start as to hot start if the are in start up. Cold start means it has to initialilize or started up before it can open. Hot start means it is already initialized or started ip and can just open.

This has to do with your Bluetooth on your HD2, I am not sure but I think it is the program that actually runs the Bluetooth on your HD2. I Highlyb suggest not messing with it as you possible may regret it, I have read threads of people having troubles with BBTrayCe.exe not working or giving errors. So to be safe I would not mess with it.

This is something else I suggest you do not mess with as this is also something kind of vital to your HD2 working right while running Windows Mobile. It activates such things like the G-Sensor, the volume controls, USB detect5ion, and etc. So you can why you ewould not want to mess with this.- Instant Forward

This is the .exe that starts up the screen lock program, and the security lock program (if you use it) on your HD2, if you don't use or want either of these you can remove it and nothing bad should happen, except you would probably have to manually lock \disable the screen if you wanted the display to stay on all the time.

I think tjhis is a program that allows auto run programs like .cab files to run when you click on them. There is other file types it allows to run also but I just used .cab as an example as I know most people know what they are.

No you can not use any androidapps with Windows Mobile at all. Now if it is a Windows Mobile version of the app then yes you can use it bitcthe Windows Mobileversion will probably not be quit as good as the Android.

has anybody come across a one button close all application for WM5.0? Spb 3.0.1 is too slow on WM5 and Wisbar Advance 2.4.....is also too much for what is needed. Something like Magicbutton but written for WM5.0 would br nice, nothing that requires much memory, but something that enables the closing of running apps without having to go into start/settings/system/memory...etc.
Wouldn't it be nice if Microsoft had just written in that piece of code, as they are well aware that since PPC2000, that every application opened, remains so unless you manually close it down in memory (therefore hogging memory resources!)
Well if anyone knows of a WM specific solution, please do share.

I added couple files which they are usefull for you and they include the closeall app.
Install the cab files you'll see the close all, Reset and Running programs, which they can be clicked from the systray directly, after the installation they require a soft reset or else you go to Start>Programs>System open TrayLaunch and press Enable
GSPocketMagic++ is the most stable program I've tried. You need to put some amended bitmaps in to get it to integrate with WM5 but it works well...

sub69: I don't know what kind of coding they used in that software you recommended, but it has boosted refresh rates and performance in general by at least 30%!! I know this sounds crazy but it's true! My opinion has completely changed about the speed of the Jasjar. It seriously Rocks! I couldn't care less if it doesn't stay this way, because it shows me conclusively, that future ROMs' will probably address the issues I have had thus far.
I needed this. Thanks a bunch sub69; best link I've had with regards to Universal software.
OK 1 gripe only: I've lost my two soft buttons on the bottom bar (any ideas?). It comes back and stays operational after a soft reset, but as soon as I use the 'close all' option of the program, I loose the soft keys! Damn..there's always a hitch!
Another positive though, the speed boost remains even after I have exited the program and revert to standard WM5.0 launcher!
P.S. I had at least 12 programs running simultaneously with no slow downs at all and 15 megs of Memory still available (tried to run out of memory, But couldn't). Very pleased at the moment, this is what I was expecting from the HTC Universal!! I'll test extensively before I comment further.
Thanks again sub69, u da Man!!
Mental...I didn't realise it was that good!?!
Not sure about the soft buttons, although come to think of it I have noticed they've disappeared a couple of times. Must've been when I hit "Close All" too?
Glad I could help, anyway. Do let us know how things go...

Still cannot believe it!! It's still going strong. Sussed the soft button thingy:Under start (GSPocket)/options/settings...uncheck the 2 tabs for'use exten task close' & 'Use Today skin'. That's it. It runs absolutely perfectly for me & with no need for amended bitmaps too! It fits right in wih my red or blue border themes (I only use my own jpegs now instead of themes - in the hope that I get no performance issues.....so far so good). Under menu settind tab I only select close all & setting (which gives me quick access to all settings in WM5.0..personal & system) and under 'click' tab I leave it as default 'Menu'. I'm so impressed with this software, I didn't think non-specific WM5 software coul be this good!
That site you recommended is also tops!
This software is so good that I must put up a new thread to inform all of your wonder find. I just hope all who try it get the same experience I'm getting. Thanks again sub69....I don't even feel the need for the next ROM update/grade...though I won't be turning it away.
Hmmm, not sure why you're that stunned. I'm finding it just fine - but certainly no faster than my JJ runs under PocketPlus 3.01, and the non-VGA graphics are a real step backwards. Anyone know how to solve this?
You mention a speed improvement; can you clarify: Before this, how long did it take to rotate the screen, and how long does it take now?

That's the file you need to download for the Jasjar, then if you have an SD card reader, you can transfer it directly to it and install the .cab file by selecting it! If you don't have a card reader, let's hope you have a bluetooth dongle, as it's a small file then you can bluetooth it over. However if you have no problems with your activesync connection, just use that to dump the .cab file on your storage card somewhere or into 'My Documents' on the jasjar.
It's not complicated.

Yep, using it myself now - but no speed change over PocketPlus (even after hard reset to remove PP). Using it cos I like menu and PP didn;t offer all that much more that other apps don;t give me.

The cause of this problem is \Windows\htcapi.dll. Uninstall the program that put it there and you'll be fine. Or just delete the file. If it came with a custom ROM rename it to something like htcapi.dll.bak.

This .dll is attached on other critical component inside the PDA or i can change the extension without any problem .?
It's not part of stock ROM, doesn't exist in your device as it comes from HTC. It's added by some programs like "Diamond Hologram", some tweaks intended for "optimizing" device performance, and sometimes ROM chefs include it in their custom ROMs. So if you get rid of it some programs will stop working. I've never seen an important program use it though, so it's safe to at least try. The problem with this dll is that it's taken from some other devices and isn't made for HD.

I have no idea why this conflict exists, but generally if you take a driver from one device and try to use it on another you're asking for trouble.

i do not have exact idea of these plugins(i believe it to be java ) but opera settings >advance settings have option to enable plugins
The fact that there is a setting doesn't mean you have to change it, especially when you don't know what you're doing. Just disable them and live happily ever after.

Right... I know that my Manila is busy doing something, because:
it takes forever to load;
my phone is terribly slow while Manila runs;
battery drains like hell with Manila running;
if I replace it with the default WM6.5 theme, my HD2 becomes responsive again.
I've checked the Task Manager, but no process shows in there. I guess only processes initiated by the user would show, anyway...
So, my question is: is there any way to know which system processes are running, and how much CPU they're using?
Thank you!

What have you installed on the phone? I'm guessing that something that runs with Sense is doing it since this isn't a problem with Sense in general.
I've the same problem, and I think it's the update of facebook's contact
As expected, it's Manila.exe, running at 98% of the CPU.
I'm on stock ROM 1.61. List of the software installed:
Chainfire HD2 3D Driver Patch
ctrlPDA pinch2zoom
Mach2003 GpsModDriver
Microsoft TagReader (version modified for HD2)
PHM Registry Editor
NetRipper TorchButton
HHotFix LEO07268_621
HotFix LEO07664
Microsoft My Phone (updated version)
Lotus EasySinc Pro
Ganondolf CrayonPhysics
Google Maps 3.3.1
BsB Tweaks 1.6
M.S. Pearce ProcessManager
Started to exhibit this behaviour as I tried to connect to my company's network, but it has done it before in other situations where there were changes to the registry.
Is HardReset the only way out of this? Is it possible to re-install just Manila?
ccristal
If it were me, I'd uninstall everything in the Remove Programs list and do a soft reset. If you're gonna do a hard reset then you need to install everything anyway. I think it's something that you've installed that's causing this problem.
Let us know how you get on.
I have this behaviour as well from time to time but I couldn't think of anything causing it. My first assumption was "my phone sync" but I've deactivated it for a while but it occured again!
it only takes ~1 up to 2 minutes and then its back to normal and it's not happening frequenly.
really weird!!!

I can say for sure that it's nothing I installed, but rather something I did while I used the product. When it happened, I was trying to connect to a wireless network using a certificate. And I have done the same thing before several times, without any problem.
The feeling I get, reading posts here and there in this forum, is of a generalised unstability of Manila, which is a shame because it's a great app. Would it be possible to install a ROM without Manila, and then install it as an application, in such a way that, should it happen again, I could just remove and reinstall it? Is this pure fantasy, or is it feasible?

If you think Manilla is the problem why don't you just switch manilla off and run with the plain winmobile interface to see if that confirms what you say or not?

Done. It *is* Manila. As you can see from one of my earlier posts, it goes quickly to 98-99% of CPU.
I've been experiencing this problem, too. I've narrowed it down further. It's got something to do with Manila indexing the MicroSD card. It started for me after I copied 8GB of music over. I've since removed it, but it still eats CPU. Popping out my SD card drops CPU to 0%.
*EDIT: FIXED*
I'm not sure what fixed it out of this, but I removed the HTC folder from my SD Card's Application Data folder, and removed any album.cache files and ini files in the My Pictures folder. Afterward, Manila.exe took up about 90% CPU for 30 seconds to reindex, and then dropped to normal.
*EDIT: One other thing*
As it turned out, there must have been something on my SD Card that was offending the index. A few hours later it was back to using the CPU. I cleared my SD Card, and formatted it, and the problem has not reared it's head again. I will begin selectively copying stuff back over until I figure out what it was.
Hey, I had the same problem. I've found that the camera and the photo tag, CAN'T read two pictures with the same name. That was freezing my hd2... Also, I tryed to rec a video, and a quarter of the vid was recorded... the rest was lost...
The manilla is a little bit buggi... so, be carefull.
REMEMBER: Check the picture count... or it will create a file example: img0001.jpg and if you have a file with the same name in other folder... You will have the same problems.
Delete album.cache to be sure.
hope this help
I too found this thread enormously useful - I was experiencing the same symptoms: very high CPU usage from Manila making the phone unusable. The problem only occurred with an SD card in the phone.
I fixed the problem by putting the SD card into a card reader connected to a PC and just 'tidying up' a bit. Not sure about the pictures with the same name (it's possible that I did delete some), but some files that I particularly noticed deleting were:
.MENC encrypted files from another Windows Mobile phone
"MSDRM" details - again from another phone
I didn't clean it up in a scientific way I'm afraid, so I can't pin down the cause - but it might be worth a try to remove these files if you're experiencing the same problem? (Naturally, keep them somewhere else if these files are of value to you - you may still need them in your other phone!!)
Hope that this is helpful!
I have a few apps I cant find lol. Coming from the tp2 there was an all programs tab that was easily accessible?
tap on the start menu, you'll have all the programs there. the last program would be on the very bottom, it doesn't sort them alphabetically.
Yeah I know about the start menu, im talking about every program on your phone alphabetically. On the tp2 it used to be a white screen with a long list of programs. All you had to do was tap all programs.
Thanks for the response.
I'm not sure if you're refering to the list of programs that the file explorer generates. It only has the folders of the programs installed. You may open the file explorer and go to Programs folder in your device or on your storage card. The folders are arranged alphabetically.
Sorry, if I'm not so clear about your concern as I know nothing about TP2.

The screenshot below is what he's looking for.
Dukins, I don't have my HD2 yet so I can't look for it on there, but I do know that if it exists on the phone you'll have to be running Sense to get to it....so, if you've turned Sense off (to run SPB Mobile Shell or anything similar, etc), you'll need to run Sense to get that programs list.
Now, if that doesn't help you get to it, I hope somebody can point you/us to it, because I'll want to know how to find it as soon as I get my HD2

Now, if that doesn't help you get to it, I hope somebody can point you/us to it, because I'll want to know how to find it as soon as I get my HD2

I see. I just got my HD2 last week but as far as I know, there is no such thing in it. The only one it has is the Start Menu that has all the programs, albeit not in list form but in hexagon-pattern listing, and not in alphabetic order.

Yeah that's the same in sense 2.1 (on my TP2)...that list appears when you're adding a quick link, it's just odd that they seem to have removed direct access to it in sense 2.5. I'm sure that's a comment lament among users of 2.5 on all platforms, at least among those who had used it at some point before.
I have had my HTC for 1 week now and it has started to slow down has any one had any experience with this problem, I also have noticed my weather location is not working properly I dont know why I would appriciate it if some one can help.

I assume you are using stock rom?
Sometimes slowdown could be due to installation of a software. Try to think of any software that might cause the slowdown.
But I think slowdown is unavoidable for most electronic devices, a month old laptop can never be compared to a same but new one.
If you wish, you can consider trying out some custom roms. They generally has better performance compared stock roms. Less junks and faster.

Installing a new ROM will remove all the stuff on phone memory. It's just like reformating a pc. If you don't like the rom, you can always try another rom.
There are plenty of stuff you need to know first before flashing a rom.
If you are new to this, make sure you read alot before doing anything to your phone. Everything you need to know can be found in the ROm Development section.

I'd recommend the Leopard 6.5.5 ROM, once you enter PIN, after that it's instantly usable, been using it for a few months now, constantly amazes me.
1) try to think if you really need the application before you will install it. Most of the apps leave lots of garbage after you uninstall them, so the phone is getting slower and slower.
2) use the program like cleanRAM
3) there is no "the ultimate ROM" - try a few - if you dont like particular one - try another. Just do not fall into the 'ROM changing addiction'
4) there is the difference between 6.5 and 6.5.x. If you used the stock ROM only, and you are used to have "Start" on top then (with 6.5.x) you will fill odd having the start on bottom - dont worry - you will use to that

its a program that clears all apps running in background and uses the free RAM for quicker processing.
also, I would recommend you to use a task manager in order to actually close applications after your donee using them instead off just minimizing them. because if you were like me when I first got my phone, I was so used to the iphone/android lack of multitasking, that I would always just push the home button to exit out of apps.however windows leaves them running in the background which causes a lotof slowdowns.
slowing down....confusing?
hi every body....
i've in some how the same problem...i mean the slowing down...
but i think the word i use is a little incorrect...because my phone works fast, and well but for example sometimes when i go to mesages, for a few seconds it slows down in changing messeges and then again works as fast as possible...or as an other example some times this happens in my contact list or my home screen...esp. when the weather is cloudy and lots of clouds are moving in my home screen
but i think the overall perfomance of my phone is still like the begining day...
i thought that the problem is due to some programs that i have installed like showcase task manager or touch x power but i removed them and still some times esp. in my home screen i have the problem!?
and by the way i''m using stock rom,WM 6.5 1.66.707 WWE and í've bought my HD2 about a week ago...
i'll be glad if any one knows about how the problem could be solved?!...or even to say that it's a problem or not!?...tnx
same here
yeah i've barely had the phone about two weeks and within the first three days it started slowing down. ESPECIALLY in the messages, and even more when i had the swype text input so i took that off. and at times i wouldnt even recieve the message. my phone's screen would light up as if i was about to get a message and i checked nothing was there but my friends told me they texted me and apparently i didnt receive. i want to try a new rom. but i really dont understand what cab files, tweaks, and things of that sort are. i've rooted my g1 before but never messed with a windows phone
Yeah this is really starting annoy me, I don't want to install a new ROM as I don't understand them but I want my phone back up to speed. Need more ideas please

Use SPB backup. Make backup of your phone put it on your memory card. Then preform a hardreset.

Well i dont exactly now but for sure all your programs. Sms and contacts can you backup with MyPhone or copy contacts to simcard or synchronize them with outlook.
Edit I investogated a little bit spb backup also backups contacts, sms and email. so only spb nacup should be enough.

Well it is simple you make a complete backup with spb backup. Then do hardreset and your done .
PS: Sorry for my bad text input typing on a phone is still not the same as a keyboard
There's no need for any hard resets. Connect your phone to a PC and check out how much free space your device (NOT the SD card) has left. If it's below 30, then there's your problem. Just use cleartemp and cleanram, move games and other apps from the phone memory to the card, and you should be ok. If the problems still persist, then I strongly advise you to flash a new ROM and see if things get any better. Peace!
