1st, win7 not gonna happen, ever, as it has no arm supprt (win8 maybe possible)
everything else is anyones guess..
i use xendesktop to login to my virtual windows 7 PC. You can use rdp but its slow and laggy.

No. Windows 7 is currently x86/x64 only (Intel, AMD, Via). The A500 runs Tegra 2 which is an ARM processor.
I don't know about WP7 - It SHOULD be possible. Of course WP7 isn't at all designed for tablets afaik.
Hm its more of like a "look my tablet can do this!" kind of thing lol. Well the iconia only just came out, im sure it and all other honeycomb devices have a very bright future ahead of them =)

Oh believe me they do. Windows 8 is coming next year (hopefully) and it will be installable to ARM equipped devices. This insinuates that by some time next year, we'll have a bigger choice on what to install on these tablets...and the fact that Windows 8 will be geared for ARM, the install will probably be easier than not.

Oh you can do so much better than that! Grab PocketCloud from the market, link it to your pc then run it full screen. Haven't used it on my Iconia yet, but it worked awesome on my Nook Color. The look on my buddies face when he saw Win7 on that little thing was amusing to say the least.

Another vote for PocketCloud. It even supports audio! Kicks ass.

If you really want your Android tablet to have that Windows 7 look and feel, you can try the launcher, Android Seven in the Market

Truthfully, I think that might be the first thing that the devs can't pull off... The again, Windows 8 will have ARM support (read: no legacy apps, where 99.9% of windows x86/64 bit).... so we'll wait and See.

Yeah but how about W8 running on a 100$ piece of hardware? I mean how inexpensive can you get?
Why do people worry so much about Windows ARM version not running legacy apps?? New apps will be created for Windows 8 that integrate with Metro, I'm pretty sure that all respectable software companies and even independent developers are starting to plan and make ARM based apps for Windows 8. Windows 8 will be powerful, and software companies need to start developing the next generation of applications eventually.
ARM is the future, x86 is done and I refuse to buy an Intel tablet or next gen AMD all-in-one. And please don't tell me you want to open your excel spreadsheet on your tablet on your way home on the train, on, cause it's not 'cool'. /vent

Well I had faith in them when I got my HD7 running WP7 and installed Windows 7 for the first time.... Basically they had me from the 'Start'
But to be honest I'm using Windows 8 now and I can't explain it but it just 'feels' different, kinda like my cell phone and PC had a baby.
Well I know that the hp touchpad wont be able to run it. A developer said it would be impossible.
I really dont think microsoft will allow you to load win 8 tablet on any tablet, im sure there going to try and control everything

When they release the ARM version, hopefully someone here will figure out a way to get it onto our tabs. Since the ARM version will run on everything from cellphones to tablets, I'm pretty sure the A500 will have the hardware to run it. Since the only version of Win8 out is the X86 / X64 developers release version, we will have to wait for the ARM version to see for certain.
I can't imagine that the A500 will not have the capabilities to run win8, whether or not someone will port it over to our tabs is another story altogether.
Well then I cant wait for the ARM version. I have been running the x64 version on my laptop and I havta say its really nice. I really would like to dual boot it on my A500 with android. it just feels like it would be perfect for it.

If it does, it will big blow on the Android, because many of people will move to the W8.
I guess Android 4 is will come quicker than W8 for Iconia devices.

The "Developers Release" of Win 8 sux as far as the touch screen experience goes compared to Win 7 as of this time. Not sure if you're using it on touchscteen or not. Win 8 is far from release, but if we only believe half the hype, it should not only bring all the platforms together (which is Microsoft's intent), but should be pretty amazing (again, once it's finished).
This thread is not the focal point for all discussions relating to running Win7, Win8 or WinAnything on the Tab 10.1.

Windows 7 doesn't work on the processor inside the tab. Windows 8 will but that version hasn't been released. Only the intel version has.

For starters....it isn't an Intel chip in the 10.1. Its the NVIDIA Tegra 2.

I wouldnt want windows 8 on my tablet...but I can see why some people might be interested.
nvidia is not intel though. they may licence some technologies from each other, but they aren't one and the same. If they were. then why would intel be bothering with the medfield chips?

Actually windows8 might surprise you. it is not bloatware as in previous windows
Nvidia uses arm architecture intel uses x86. Windows 8 is being designed to support lean hardware like ARM based SoC. It will supports 2 modes - traditional windows called desktop mode and touch based called metro. Its tile based metro UI is more elegant than android and shoul work with both x86 and arm devices. X86 will habe an edge as it will work woth traditional windows as well as Metro while arm can only work with metro assuming they fix all the headaches related to arm

It will be embedded into the slabs, just like Android.
But since it is NOT open source, you just will NOT be able to add it afterwords.

Unfortunately, I agree with everything here, except the word "ever." I think there will be folks rocking the GT10 when Win8 gets leaked and built, but by then this will be a "legacy device." I'm really looking forward to having a windows 8 tablet, but it won't be the galaxy tab 10.1
yep microsoft UEFI Secure Boot technology might make it near impossible to dual boot win 8 and android ON devices built for windows8 - but i have faith in the dev community to port Win 8 onto android first devices- not that i would use it anyway

This will probably be considered a noob question, and I apologize if this is question is in the wrong place, but is it within reason to dual-boot android on a windows RT tablet? The answer may determine my purchase of a windows tablet when they arrive, because I like both android and windows on tablets.

Not possible. Windows RT uses Secure Boot, BitLocker and other security mechanisms so it will be extremely hard to break.

Games and previously purchased apps would be my best guess. If there ends up being good android emulation (bluestacks) then I would think that there is no reason at all.

Because Android was built from the ground up on mobile devices. Windows went the other way. Obviously Android does a lot of things better when mobile.

Good news? Intel is going Mobile and so is the ARM Processor and why is that good? Anyone can make it and not just anyone but Samsung is noted to be making a model FOR Android phones. Why does this matter? It means Google must be up to making Android for ARM and if that is true, I can almost bet that someone will be able to put it on a Windows RT Tablet eventually and that is the keyword, eventually.
So if you have to dual boot right this second? Buy a normal Windows 8 Tablet/Slate, not RT Tablet as they're not as powerful and "Desktop" will NOT be available but if you're not looking for power, stay with an Android Tablet or wait to see what Microsoft will be doing with the Slate.

Oh, I just thought the possibility if it was rather low (even if it was done, probably not going to be too good), so offered an easier alternative.
I mean there are even android x86 projects, just that they don't work that well and compatibility isn't the best over different hardware.
Only time will tell

but the assertion that Android has always run on ARM is not incorrect, the first device that Android ran on was ARM.
