Defective Usb-port - HD2 General

It appears that my HD2 is having some problems with its USB-Port since a connection will only be established if the USB-cable is held in a weird angle.
My Phone has been kept very carefully and is otherwise in great condition.
I think this may be a problem with the usb-port inside and it still has warranty here in germany.
The problem is that i used Magldr to install Android through clockwork mod, is there a way to get back to Windows Mobile without using a usb cable?
Since i hardly think i could send it in with Android installed.

Chances are it is the port on your phone....They seem pretty prone to this problem after a while.......Im assuming you've tried a different cable/usb port right??
Good news is that yes, you can get back to WM without USB pretty easily.
You need to download the correct stock rom for your device.
Hit up HTC.com and enter your serial number to be absolutely certain.
Download the ROM and extract the .nbh file.
Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh and place it on the root of your SD card.
Power on the phone whilst holding the vol. down button.
It should boot to bootloader and take you through the flashing process...
Using a stock ROM will remove HSPL and whatever else... ta da.... factory perfect

Does that work even tho i have magldr?
EDIT: I have an O2 phone, not the normal firmware but one that was provider-specific, does that work, too?

Yeah, it should do.
MAGLDR runs in the chain after the "classic" 3 colour bootloader....
Try turning on the phone and holding vol down. You should get to the good old fashioned bootloader. If so, SD flash will work.
Hope that helps.

Hey that was helpfull man, thanks for that!!!

Out of curiosity, have you looked to see if the usb needs to be cleaned from dirt and lint?
A friends phone had the same problem, and would only work if held at a weird angle. I used a pin to carefully dig in the usb hole and a lot of lint and even dirt had crammed in there to stop the cable working.

just wanted to add something to this thread, correct me if i am wrong.
yes you can revert to a stock SPL+ROM+Radio using flash-via-sd-card method. so a functioning USB port is not necessary.
BUT! a fully functioning USB port IS necessary for flashing HSPL (which is the first step to unleashing yourself on all the wonderful fun possible on the HD2)
so if your USB port is faulty and you're thinking about claiming warranty, then be absolutely sure about the decision to "go stock" before you revert to stock using the flash-via-sd-card method. in case the USB repairs fail, you will be stuck with the stock SPL on there. in case you have to hold on to an HD2 which you reverted to stock but couldn't get the USB repaired, that could be a bummer if you've gotten used to HSPL and its benefits!

$100 Reward if can fix my T8285

Long story short my phone worked fine for months. Went to a 1.56 Rom active sync stopped working. I have already tried everything associated with AS problem, everything. Went to get it repaired at HTC America in Houston, TX there gay and dont support T8285. I have tried flashing via memory card but I seem to be retarded doing it that way. Engineer said mini usb slot works fine, cooked rom may have corrupted AS. Customer service would not let him fix my phone because it was an "aussie version". I just want the phone to sync is that too much to ask? Anyway $100 bucks to anyone that can make it work paid via paypal immediately.
moved out of development
Personally I think your mad offering $100. I'm sure most people would have hepled you for free, including myself. I'm not after your money but offer my assistance.
Have you tried doing a hard reset? uninstalling activesync & reinstalling it?
Flashing different rom. If you can't flash through SD Card, have you tried flashing again via usb. You don't need phone sync'd
Put your phone into bootloader and then connect to pc via usb. At bottom of screen the text should change from 'serial' to 'usb'. Now flash phone by running rom (cooked or stock etc) you downloaded. Put .nbh and ruu file into same folder and then open ruu file and follow instructions.
I severely doubt cooked rom affected activesync.
EDIT
As bonesy said below, you'll need either USPL or HSPL to flash 1.56+ based rom.
Full tutorial or dummies guide to flashing 1.56+ based roms can be found in cRaCKwHoRe's guide. See my signature
Turn off your phone, Take out your memory card, Plug the miniUSB in then power on (Hold volume down press power holding volume down still) This will bring up a coloured screen. Run the ROM Wrapper package exe (BlackstoneRUUWrapper) This SHOULD now install the right ROM.
Please make sure you are using a 1.56 rom with the HSPL or i think it has problems with GFX.
When windows loads go to start>settings>connections>USBtoPC
this is on 6.5 rom not sure about 6.1 :/
Untick Enable faster data synchronizaion, I had to do all this on works computer to update a ROM god knows why but this was my fix.
ROM Should load as should activesync now.
Please let me know if this helps
Tried to post in ure original threads but mods were moving to trash each time BAH!
Thanks to both of you guys for your suggestions. I thought I was not a noob when it came to flashing roms but once I could not do it via usb I was a whole different story. Yeah I am offering the $100 just to get people to help. I know you get slammed if you ask a question so I figured I would make it worth someone's time. I am going right now to pick it up from the repair center so I will try during my lunch in about an hour.

So I got my phone and this is what it says.
BLAC120 32M
SPL-1.56.01Olinex
MicroP-Blackstone (LED) v6
and it's just red green blue and white no word on the bottom. Ran BlackstoneRUUWrapper with the nbh file that I wanted and it gave me a connection error. Now it says Seiral in the white.

Well I get it into bootloader no problem but then plug in the usb cable and nada, it says serial. So then I tried starting bootloader mode with the cabe and still nada, it does not even say serial. If I unplug it then it says serial. I have tried both ways to run the RUU Wrapper and I keep getting the usb conncetion error
serial?
Hi, please can you post a screen shot of where it says serial at boot screen?

ok, that looks pretty normal,so to recap you fully powerdown the phone by taking the battery out, put the cable into both the phone and pc and the turn on holding volume down and it just sits there?, what happens when you press volume up at this point?

Yeah I have been trying on my latop, home pc, and work pc and nothing same result. I have tried different usb cables, os, reinstalling, everything. Only thing I have not tried is flashing via sd card yet.
brick
its sounds like you have a corrupt spl, it is definately worth trying the sd card as it may allow you to activesync but it may then fallover when it reboots and goes into boot mode. This i where user viperbjk (see android dev thread) may be able to help as he has successfully managed to unbrick a phone.
I had this same problem but powering down and simply triggering the and spl reflash resolved it. your problem sounds different though.

USB Problem

Hi,
if i connect my HTC Touch HD with my computer, it's just charging, nothing more. If i go to Bootloader, there is just written Serial even if its connected.
I am using Dutty ROM since some weeks and didn't had any problems till a few days ago, the strange thing is, that i didn't change anything.
I tried it on my laptop and on my computer the one with windows vista the other one with win xp, it worked on both, but not anymoe.
i also have a problem with the camera, if i press it nothing happens it just stays in the menu. Some days ago i got a error failed to initialize camera, but no more error anymore.
In my opinion my hardware is broken somehow, i hope someone in here can tell me sth different and a solution.
And if my hardware is broken, how can flash my original rom back without an usb connection, because the warenty will be gone with a custom rom i think.
I hope someone can help me.

A hard reset will quickly tell you if it's hardware or software and you don't need usb for that. There is also an option which dictates what the phone does when connected via usb, so you might want to check that option first.
need to read & search a little more
last paragraph of this post outlines how to return to stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2710548&postcount=1
i did hardreset, but still same problem
what i also noticed, is that sometimes my display don't work, i have sound and vibrate feedback, but i see just a black display, softreset etc doesen't work somehow i have to take of the battery.
i noticed also that the usb cable is a bit broken, but it still charges the phone.
but i already saw that normal usb cable should work too, so i tried it but no change.
i guess i will try to get the stock rom again now and see what happens
well like i thought, i can't get the stock rom, because i dont have a usb connection
any more suggestions?

There is 2 methods to flashing roms. Have you tried SD card method?
1. Download ROM image you would like to use, normally named RUU_Signed.nbh, and rename it to "BLACIMG.nbh"
2. Copy BLACIMG.NBH into the root dir of your Storage Card.
3. Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
4. Turn off your device by using the Power Button
5. Go to bootloader mode. Push and hold Vol Down + press Power button.
6. As soon as presented the message, push Power button to start flashing or Volume Down button to cancel.
7. The whole procedure will take about 3 minutes. After you finish and see the relative message, soft reset your device, you are ready.
thanks god i didn't bring the phone to shop yet xD
thank u, i will check this method i will post here if it works later
well now i have another problem
there is written upgrade rom code error please try again on bootloader, i cant turn it on anymore it gets stuck on the loading screen of the flashing progress

I had this exact same problem a while back after a bad flash. What you need to do is flash carriers orginal stock rom onto device. This will be the only rom which will work. Go to wiki section on stock roms here and download your original rom and flash it. Don't worry if bottom of bootloader is blank or doesn't say 'usb', original rom will flash anyhow.
More info read this thread
i am downloading right now, hopefully it will work, i will write more infos later
thank u for your help, without you, i would be lost...
i am stuck, i get error 206 connection
i downloaded stock rom to my pc
and i'm a bit confused, my pc noticed that i pluged in the phone, my device manager showed my phone, this worked only one time, now nothing...
EDIT: in bootloader mode, serial staus doesnt switch to usb or blank, updateing usb driver doesn't work without usb connection to device, at least i didnt found sth here
i will try it on my other computer now, but i doubt it will work
EDIT2: got usb connection for some seconds, problem is my hardware of device its broken somehow, if i press on th eback of the device i am able to get usb connection, now it failed, i will give it some more tries, there was sth 294 ID error
EDIT3: seems like its the wrong rom, how can i find out which rom will work?
EDIT4: semms like i got a working rom its at 10%
EDIT5: Device working again, usb working perfectly again, dunno why, but camera still doesnt work, there happens nothing if i press on it and display turns black sometimes as before.
i flashed an O2 Rom now, from my provider.
My last question now is, what about warranty, how can i know that uspl/hsapl is fully removed from device and how to find out if device is now a case of warrnty, where can i check it? because i want a working camera again, so i think i need the warranty
Some infos:
O2 Provider ROM flashed
On Bootloader i see:
BLAC100 32M
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-Blackstone (LED) v6
In my opinion its fine for warranty, but i want someone to confirm this.
And thank you alot for ur help and work in this forum =)
If you have an official HTC upgrade rom on your device you are fine for warranty. As your SPL says 1.54.0000 this means you haven't got USPL or HSPL on your device, so you're fine.
thank you very much

No more USB connexions

Hello,
I didn't have any USB connexions anymore on my 32a magic.
In fastboot, no problems.
But with any rom (myhero, GyD, Cyanogen), no USB available !
I don't have the USB mount notification on magic, and have an "unknown usb device" notification on xp.
But the Sd card is ok.
How can I fix it ?
Thanks
Nobody ?
Many Hero owners have this trouble
I checked PID and VID. Both are 0x0000 ! (unknown device)
It sounds like an hardware trouble, but why is it ok in fastboot mode ?
I have exactly the same problem on my 32B... since I bought the phone(second hand), that it has this problem, I have been looking everywhere and I got no answer...
I read somewhere that flashing the SPL could solve the problem, but I haven't tried it.
I flashed to SPL 2010 yesterday... no improvements.

Humm, thats bad news
I have the same problem on my MT3G after the motherboard on my gaming rig blew, the phone just went dark and it also destroyed my usb jump drive that was plugged in next to it. It (usb jump drive) was really hot to the touch when I pulled it out. I smelled something burning from inside the computer, I never did figure out what it was. Now when I plug the phone into my loptop all the phone does is charge, the computer wont see it and neither does the phone ask to mount. The sd card is still good but now I either have to use a card reader or transfer files through bluetooth.
I wiped, formatted, "mount usb" through the recovery, flashed different roms, nothing works. I guess I damaged the circuit board or the usb port somehow. I wanna call Tmo for a warrenty replacement but then Ill have to flash back to the original spl and ROM. I dont really want to go through the rooting process again. Is there a way to find out for sure if it is the software or a hardware issue? Like some kind of test through the terminal?

Humm, that means that we might have something "fried" on our phones
The weird thing is that I can access usb through fastboot... Are you able to use fastboot on your phone?
It really would be interesting if there was any way to check if it really is an hardware problem or software problem.
Has anyone else got a clue on this one?
If we can access USB in fastboot, it sounds like a software problem to me.
But after trying several roms and spl, no changes.
I would try to flash a new SPL, but if I do that I won't be able to put back the original SPL and may not take it back to HTC and repair it under warranty... I will wait about a week or so, put back as it was originally, and send it back to HTC and see if they will repair it.

That's weird, what spl have you used and what was your initial spl? How did you flashed that SPL?
I tested all SPL I think !
But the last i tried sould be 1.33.2004.
Now, phone locked on TIM logo screen, impossible to go into fastboot or recovery, even with unbrick hacks found on the forum
If it gets to the operate logo, I guess that you should be able to get to recovery rom...
Can't you get to hboot mode(volume down + power on) , or to fastboot mode(back + power on)?
Nop !
I tried all combinations: Volume Down + power on, Back + power on, Home + power on.
Same result! Operator Logo

[Q] Help!

Hey guys,
Sorry to be a burden but I'm having a few issues with my hd2, and being a noob I didn't really know where to turn except this forum.
Basically my dad bought the hd2 from the UAE early this year and it all worked fine on stock settings for about 6 months. In the last few months, however, the phone started to lock up, and it got to the point where it wouldn't even boot properly.
In an effort to fix the problem I went with a hard factory restore, however, this seems to have caused more problems as now the phone is stuck in the bootloader.
I've been searching for hours, and have come to the conclusion that I need to update the flash? and then possibly install a new rom on the phone?
My major issue in doing this though, is that I can't seem to connect to activesync while the phone is in the bootloader.
Please help me sort this out.
First of all lets make sure that your trying perform the hard reset correctly.......
You need to hold down both volume buttons whilst the phone is turned off..... Then tap the power button and keep the buttons held down.......
Release them when you see the confirmation screen.........
Powering on while holding only the vol down button will take you to bootloader....
If you need to reflash the device then have a read of this thread here....
If its a "Tmous" HD2 (green and red call/hangup buttons) then you need to read this one
When connecting to the pc in bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen change to "USB".......
Might be worth checking the text on you bootloader screen for any irregular looking characters, there have a few cases of people with corrupt bootloaders, usually these will display odd looking characters at the top. This is quite rare though.
If you want to flash another stock rom then you wont need to worry about HSPL just download the appropriate ROM and follow the instructions on screen.
Start off at the HTC site and input your serial number to see which ROM is suitable for your device.....
If none of that helps then hold out for some advice here from someone with better knowledge of these things.....
Ok well I've just tried to do the hard reset in the way you've described and had no response from the phone. I had to remove the battery from the back to actually power down the thing as nothing else seemed to work. I can't actually seem to start it up again now =S
Thanks for all the info, I'll keep trying to get it started. I'm downloading the stock rom from the htc site. Hopefully I will find a way to install that.
Also, when the bootloader was up, there weren't any odd characters that I could see. It all seemed pretty standard. It had the current rom driver which was 1.42 or something and a few other lines of info.
Thanks for the post.
edit: perhaps the battery is dead?
No problem.
Is it charging when plugged in and turned off?
If so let it charge while turned off for a while and then try to boot........
If you cant get to bootloader and establish a USB connection then you could try flashing the ROM from the SD card.
rename the rom to "LEOIMG.nbh" place it on the root of a freshly formatted (fat32) sd card and turn on the phone holding vol down..

To be honest I have no idea if it is charging whilst turned off =S All I get is the bootloader when it decided to turn on and that gives no indication of power level so I really have no idea. It makes updating a rom pretty scary haha.
So I just attempted to install the default rom from teh htc site, but failed due to the lack of activesync. It was strange though because the updater managed to change the screen on the phone and get to 1%. It then crashed and I had to go through this recovery process.
I will have to try this SD card process I guess. Could you perhaps link me to a more in depth guide to how to do this?
Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it.
you should get a red light up near the earpiece to indicate that its charging........
try this video for flashing from sd card......
I am not getting a red light flashing? But it doesn't seem to be running out of charge. I'm still having lots of trouble
It would seem that I need to install this hspl before I do anything, however, I can't install that if I can only access the bootloader screen. Does this mean my phone is bricked?
I want to be able to set up a rom straight from SD, however, I have no idea where to start. That video just seems to send me in a big loop.
Perhaps you could link me to a simple rom that I can attempt to load via sd card?
edit:
I seem to have somehow fluked an install of HSPL 8G XE.
I have no idea how this happened or whether it is good or bad.. but at least something has happened.
Hmmm
installing hspl is covered here
as long as the word "serial" is changing to "USB" on the bootloader screen when you connect to the computer you should be ok.......
You dont need HSPL to flash via sd card but I think that video was directed more towards people installing cooked ROMS from XDA.
Installing a stock rom will automatically overwrite HSPL so unless your planning to flash a custom ROM then installing HSPL is pointless........
You might be better off installing a cooked rom. (Artemis, Dutty's)
They tend to run better than stock, if you get one running then it will be easier to get back to a stock rom (if you want to) than the situation your in now.....
This is from the flashing guide;
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Reckon you could link me to one of those roms? I think we're getting pretty close now.
Your help has been great I can't thank you enough.
Your welcome
You can find Dutty's ROM here
or the Artemis ROM here
Have a quick read and see which one you think you'll prefer, to be honest I think they're both pretty similar to stock but with a lot of the crap taken out....
Just follow the steps in the first link I posted and you should be good to go.
Ok new problems.. Can you believe it.
I seem to have tried everything.
Basically I can install of a sd card, but when it gets to the end of the install and I restart instead of booting into a OS it boots to the tri colour screen, and starts the install process again.
Also, I have attempted to install via usb and have had varying success.
As I have already said, I am able to install hspl, however, when I try to flash I get to varying percentages below 30% before the whole thing freezes.
I now have an error that says Upgrade Rom code error Please Try Again.
Sorry i dont mean to hijack ! but will any of you be kind enough to help me here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879980
thanks !
Ok so I followed the steps and still to no avail.
I am able to boot using the sd card method, however, the same problem occurs with each rom version. Basically as soon as I reset the device it pretty much switches itself off, then I can't turn it back on, once I finally do turn it on, it restarts the process like it never happened.
The other issue is again the active sync problem.
With most of the the usb connections I am able to connect and get a little way through the install (most I've got is 15%) then it just freezes up and I get the 262 error
Your best bet is to try flashing with a freshly formatted (FAT32) 4gb, class 2 card.
I know, sounds pretty specific right?
You wouldn't think it would matter?
I have tried flashing with 16 gb class 2, failed at the radio step
Tried with a 8 gb class 6, failed at the radio
4 gb, class 2, flashed successfully.
Seems our HD2's are picky about what cards they'll take a ROM from for some reason.
Alright I'll try that, my next issue is which is the stock rom for the phone =S
It was bought in the UAE and I'm currently in Australia.
edit: Also I read somewhere that the constant bootloader screen can be caused by a bent battery pin?
Edit2: I have attempted to do that, however, now the bootloader will accept the card, then just sit on loading...
I'm pretty sure this thing is bricked.

I've heard of bent battery pins being a pretty common problem, causing usually just the phone not to charge properly. I've personally never heard of it causing constant bootloader, but it's definitely worth checking.
It's weird that it's such a common problem, my usb/charging port is broken, so I have to use an external charger. I change my battery on average twice every 24 hrs, and I've never bent a pin
Ok, new info, apparently because the device is for the middle east it does not support stock 3.14 roms. What does this mean for me? Am I bricked.

That's the post I found the info in. All of that info matches up to mine except my original image was 3.142 I think =S
Firstly, your phone is not bricked - a bricked phone is responsive as a brick.
Can we start from the begining?
What does the Bootloader Moder screen say (with and without the USB cable connected)?
What ROM (and if custom ROM, what RADIO) have you flashed and are trying to flash?

Alright from the beginning.
Basically about a month into using the phone in Australia it became very unresponsive to the point where it would not boot at all. We left the phone for a couple of months, however, after seeing a friend rom android I decided maybe it was time to attempt to fix this phone.
Some more info:
When I attempt to do any sort of ROM update there is nothing in the 'current image' part so for example it will say update to Dutty 3.6 but it's updating from nothing, does this mean there's no firmware there?
In the bootloader I have:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MICROP(LED) 0X05
MICROP(TOUCH) 0X40
Without USB cable in I get Serial in the white part down the bottom, with the USB cable in + plugged into computer I get USB.
Just to further clarify. In regards to the ROM I have installed. I simply don't have anything installed. There is a bootloader, no image, no bootup. It boots up to the tri colour, that's it.
For a moment we will forget about going to 3.14 ROM: I don't know if that phone is entitled to an official upgrade to 3.14, if it is locked to a particular network, if it is branded, etc. If it is not entitled to a 3.14 ROM upgrade then you will have to go through GoldCarding, so we will leave it for now.
Make sure that the battery has had a good couple of hours charge in the charger or double that if connected to the computer.
Remove SIM Card and SD Card.
Switch on to Bootloader Mode, then connect to USB.
Download and run HSPL2 - ignore the instruction about connecting to ActiveSync etc, just proceed.
Download and install the HTC 1.66 WWE ROM - again, ignore the instructions, just proceed.
The reason for HSPL is because your phone may be operator locked (not SIM locked) and you aren't entitled to run the 1.66 WWE ROM.

[Q] HD2 not detected at all

Hello,
here is the situation.
i have a hd2 with magldr 1.13
android in nand
android in sd
both are working fine.
im trying to flash wp7 but my pc wont even pick up the connection (device not listed in devmgmt) however the phone is charging no problem.
i have installed, uninstalled and re-installed:
android sdk tools
windows mobile device center
windows phone sdk
i have manually removed each drivers after uninstalling all these through devmgmt.msc
i have also tried all this on 2 other PCs, with the same results so far.
i will try on a 4th PC later tonight.
i havent had the opportunity to try another cable yet.
what is causing this?
Thanks,
In wmdc did you untick "allow USB connections"?
That doesn't make any sense. If you flashed Android to NAND it should Flash WP7 to NAND with the same ease.
Make sure you hate .net 4.0 installed too, I know that helped me.
on the phone do you have it set to charge only from USB?
menu button - settings - Connect to pc - Default connection type
yep "allow USB" is unticked
i have .NET 4.0 installed...
i dont even have that in android:
"menu button - settings - Connect to pc - Default connection type"
do i have a faulty phone? the last time i flashed was about 2.5 weeks ago

I don't understand what the problem is exactly:
You connect your HD2 to your PC, load up MAGLDR and select usb flash mode.
then you're running the DAF WP7 flasher and then it fails to connect or what?

on the phone, nothing happens.
on pc flasher fails after a while.
also on the tri-colour HSLP boot, i can see "serial"
but i cant seem to put in "USB" mode.
i tried booting into HSPL with the USB connected but then it wont display "serial" or "USB"... it stays blank

oh well if bootloader stays on serial its almost certainly hardware, cos it should switch to USB regardless of whether flashing works and drivers and what not. You say you can charge so I would suspect a broken data pin inthe socket, perhaps dirty, perhaps bad solder, perhaps faulty cable.

He's saying it doesn't say serial or USB, so it might be some software issue, "it stays blank"
I would flash stock via SD, then flash HSPL, task29, then flash magldr, then try again.
yea, but since it does say serial when usb isn't connected, means it is detecting something, because it can tell the difference. You may be right in a corrupted bootloader, but id bet its more likely hardware, shorted data pins, or a break on either the phone or the cable. (all just guesswork, of course, , , hurry up and find out, OP! minds with nothing better to do need to know! hehe)

@OP
+1 on that, but of course it will all stop at "stock via SD" if that doesnt fix it,because hspl gone, no usb to reapply it, no radio flashing, so no more android, just stock winmo roms,, so think carefully what you want, if you can live with what you have, id be tempted to leave it alone until you need to.

That's true, if you flash stock via sd then you're back to SPL 3.03, but reflashing HSPL might be what you need to do, so it's hit or miss.
If it's hardware then you will find out this way and since you'll hopefully be back to stock SPL you could do warranty on it.
I hate to say it but that's most likely a dead physical USB port. I work on the HD2's daily and have seen this problem several times and it was 100% not software related which I have verified after a fully memory sweep and write of a JTAG dump from a working phone to the defective one. In these case the phone would also charge but had no PC connectivity either. You can however flash all the WinMO ROM's you would like over the SD-Card and definitely still benefit from the SD-Card style of booting Android ROM's so the phone is not a total wash. You can also still hope that Cotulla or some DEV will come up with a way to flash CWM Recovery from the SD-Card to the NAND. Then you could even still have NAND based Android ROM's as the CWM step is the only part of MAGLDR to Android that involves PC > Phone flashing.
The port is cheap at about $6.00 USD but the skill required to put one on is high. I don't offer it as a service yet but I'm planning on it soon as I solder frequently on JTAG ports smaller than the usb ports themselves and have the skill to do this.
EDIT: I'm also not 100% sure it's the port to blame but most likely it is. However, it could still be something inline with the USB data bus on the phone to blame.

If this is the case I wouldn't flash stock via SD since you have no way to flash HSPL after that.
