Hey guys,
Sorry to be a burden but I'm having a few issues with my hd2, and being a noob I didn't really know where to turn except this forum.
Basically my dad bought the hd2 from the UAE early this year and it all worked fine on stock settings for about 6 months. In the last few months, however, the phone started to lock up, and it got to the point where it wouldn't even boot properly.
In an effort to fix the problem I went with a hard factory restore, however, this seems to have caused more problems as now the phone is stuck in the bootloader.
I've been searching for hours, and have come to the conclusion that I need to update the flash? and then possibly install a new rom on the phone?
My major issue in doing this though, is that I can't seem to connect to activesync while the phone is in the bootloader.
Please help me sort this out.
First of all lets make sure that your trying perform the hard reset correctly.......
You need to hold down both volume buttons whilst the phone is turned off..... Then tap the power button and keep the buttons held down.......
Release them when you see the confirmation screen.........
Powering on while holding only the vol down button will take you to bootloader....
If you need to reflash the device then have a read of this thread here....
If its a "Tmous" HD2 (green and red call/hangup buttons) then you need to read this one
When connecting to the pc in bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen change to "USB".......
Might be worth checking the text on you bootloader screen for any irregular looking characters, there have a few cases of people with corrupt bootloaders, usually these will display odd looking characters at the top. This is quite rare though.
If you want to flash another stock rom then you wont need to worry about HSPL just download the appropriate ROM and follow the instructions on screen.
Start off at the HTC site and input your serial number to see which ROM is suitable for your device.....
If none of that helps then hold out for some advice here from someone with better knowledge of these things.....
Ok well I've just tried to do the hard reset in the way you've described and had no response from the phone. I had to remove the battery from the back to actually power down the thing as nothing else seemed to work. I can't actually seem to start it up again now =S
Thanks for all the info, I'll keep trying to get it started. I'm downloading the stock rom from the htc site. Hopefully I will find a way to install that.
Also, when the bootloader was up, there weren't any odd characters that I could see. It all seemed pretty standard. It had the current rom driver which was 1.42 or something and a few other lines of info.
Thanks for the post.
edit: perhaps the battery is dead?
No problem.
Is it charging when plugged in and turned off?
If so let it charge while turned off for a while and then try to boot........
If you cant get to bootloader and establish a USB connection then you could try flashing the ROM from the SD card.
rename the rom to "LEOIMG.nbh" place it on the root of a freshly formatted (fat32) sd card and turn on the phone holding vol down..

To be honest I have no idea if it is charging whilst turned off =S All I get is the bootloader when it decided to turn on and that gives no indication of power level so I really have no idea. It makes updating a rom pretty scary haha.
So I just attempted to install the default rom from teh htc site, but failed due to the lack of activesync. It was strange though because the updater managed to change the screen on the phone and get to 1%. It then crashed and I had to go through this recovery process.
I will have to try this SD card process I guess. Could you perhaps link me to a more in depth guide to how to do this?
Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it.
you should get a red light up near the earpiece to indicate that its charging........
try this video for flashing from sd card......
I am not getting a red light flashing? But it doesn't seem to be running out of charge. I'm still having lots of trouble
It would seem that I need to install this hspl before I do anything, however, I can't install that if I can only access the bootloader screen. Does this mean my phone is bricked?
I want to be able to set up a rom straight from SD, however, I have no idea where to start. That video just seems to send me in a big loop.
Perhaps you could link me to a simple rom that I can attempt to load via sd card?
edit:
I seem to have somehow fluked an install of HSPL 8G XE.
I have no idea how this happened or whether it is good or bad.. but at least something has happened.
Hmmm
installing hspl is covered here
as long as the word "serial" is changing to "USB" on the bootloader screen when you connect to the computer you should be ok.......
You dont need HSPL to flash via sd card but I think that video was directed more towards people installing cooked ROMS from XDA.
Installing a stock rom will automatically overwrite HSPL so unless your planning to flash a custom ROM then installing HSPL is pointless........
You might be better off installing a cooked rom. (Artemis, Dutty's)
They tend to run better than stock, if you get one running then it will be easier to get back to a stock rom (if you want to) than the situation your in now.....
This is from the flashing guide;
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Reckon you could link me to one of those roms? I think we're getting pretty close now.
Your help has been great I can't thank you enough.
Your welcome
You can find Dutty's ROM here
or the Artemis ROM here
Have a quick read and see which one you think you'll prefer, to be honest I think they're both pretty similar to stock but with a lot of the crap taken out....
Just follow the steps in the first link I posted and you should be good to go.
Ok new problems.. Can you believe it.
I seem to have tried everything.
Basically I can install of a sd card, but when it gets to the end of the install and I restart instead of booting into a OS it boots to the tri colour screen, and starts the install process again.
Also, I have attempted to install via usb and have had varying success.
As I have already said, I am able to install hspl, however, when I try to flash I get to varying percentages below 30% before the whole thing freezes.
I now have an error that says Upgrade Rom code error Please Try Again.
Sorry i dont mean to hijack ! but will any of you be kind enough to help me here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879980
thanks !
Ok so I followed the steps and still to no avail.
I am able to boot using the sd card method, however, the same problem occurs with each rom version. Basically as soon as I reset the device it pretty much switches itself off, then I can't turn it back on, once I finally do turn it on, it restarts the process like it never happened.
The other issue is again the active sync problem.
With most of the the usb connections I am able to connect and get a little way through the install (most I've got is 15%) then it just freezes up and I get the 262 error
Your best bet is to try flashing with a freshly formatted (FAT32) 4gb, class 2 card.
I know, sounds pretty specific right?
You wouldn't think it would matter?
I have tried flashing with 16 gb class 2, failed at the radio step
Tried with a 8 gb class 6, failed at the radio
4 gb, class 2, flashed successfully.
Seems our HD2's are picky about what cards they'll take a ROM from for some reason.
Alright I'll try that, my next issue is which is the stock rom for the phone =S
It was bought in the UAE and I'm currently in Australia.
edit: Also I read somewhere that the constant bootloader screen can be caused by a bent battery pin?
Edit2: I have attempted to do that, however, now the bootloader will accept the card, then just sit on loading...
I'm pretty sure this thing is bricked.

I've heard of bent battery pins being a pretty common problem, causing usually just the phone not to charge properly. I've personally never heard of it causing constant bootloader, but it's definitely worth checking.
It's weird that it's such a common problem, my usb/charging port is broken, so I have to use an external charger. I change my battery on average twice every 24 hrs, and I've never bent a pin
Ok, new info, apparently because the device is for the middle east it does not support stock 3.14 roms. What does this mean for me? Am I bricked.

That's the post I found the info in. All of that info matches up to mine except my original image was 3.142 I think =S
Firstly, your phone is not bricked - a bricked phone is responsive as a brick.
Can we start from the begining?
What does the Bootloader Moder screen say (with and without the USB cable connected)?
What ROM (and if custom ROM, what RADIO) have you flashed and are trying to flash?

Alright from the beginning.
Basically about a month into using the phone in Australia it became very unresponsive to the point where it would not boot at all. We left the phone for a couple of months, however, after seeing a friend rom android I decided maybe it was time to attempt to fix this phone.
Some more info:
When I attempt to do any sort of ROM update there is nothing in the 'current image' part so for example it will say update to Dutty 3.6 but it's updating from nothing, does this mean there's no firmware there?
In the bootloader I have:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MICROP(LED) 0X05
MICROP(TOUCH) 0X40
Without USB cable in I get Serial in the white part down the bottom, with the USB cable in + plugged into computer I get USB.
Just to further clarify. In regards to the ROM I have installed. I simply don't have anything installed. There is a bootloader, no image, no bootup. It boots up to the tri colour, that's it.
For a moment we will forget about going to 3.14 ROM: I don't know if that phone is entitled to an official upgrade to 3.14, if it is locked to a particular network, if it is branded, etc. If it is not entitled to a 3.14 ROM upgrade then you will have to go through GoldCarding, so we will leave it for now.
Make sure that the battery has had a good couple of hours charge in the charger or double that if connected to the computer.
Remove SIM Card and SD Card.
Switch on to Bootloader Mode, then connect to USB.
Download and run HSPL2 - ignore the instruction about connecting to ActiveSync etc, just proceed.
Download and install the HTC 1.66 WWE ROM - again, ignore the instructions, just proceed.
The reason for HSPL is because your phone may be operator locked (not SIM locked) and you aren't entitled to run the 1.66 WWE ROM.

Hello fellow HD2 users,
I've got an HD2 T-Mobile UK. I've just tried my luck with HSPL, I've succeessfully installed HSPL using the steps in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
However, when I copied the LEOIMG.nbh (1.48 offiicial rom) file to the micro SD 8GB card; and rebooted, things seemed ok untill it suddenly stopped the progress of flashing the ROM and gave me a Grey screen with the Error 00028002 "not Allow" sort of thing.
So I tried yanking battery out, rebooting normally, it displays a grey triangle with " ! " in the middle and then displays the 00028002 error then back to Tri colour bootloader, I noticed that the HSPL is gone and its back now to 1.42.0000
I even tried a Factory reset, it does the reset I reboot, but it still shows me grey triangle and same routine. I've tried everything now. This bloody T-mobile phone is just useless to me at the moment !
Can you please HELP !!! Thank you so much !
Regards !!
Ok found solution, I just had to install the official T-mobile 1.43.110.0 ROM from this link:
http://rapidshare.com/users/258XUJ
After just switching on the phone with microsd inside, I just plugged the usb and started the RUU and followed the steps and things are back to square one now.
not thrilled that it has been a nightmare so far to get a new rom on.
but at least I can use my phone with its basic functionalities. not gona push my luck again...
You cannot flash official ROMS from the sd because it replaces the SPL with a stock one. Presume it got half way through then decided the ROM was not for your device since it hasd replaced the SPL. Cooked ROMS are ok to flash from SD but for Stock use the RUU.
tell me it's working please.my HD2 from UK T-Mob is same "bricked" and in Slovakia is very very difficult to find somebody who can fix this....i think maybe only the HTC repair center
^
If your phone can load up into the boot loader (tri-color screen) your phone is not bricked.
Deeper Trouble:Same error, but cannot use USB!!!
Guys,
im in even much deeper **** now.I accidentally tried flashing a stock ROM via SD card and now ive gt the same ROM code error. What makes this worse is that my Vista computer is not recognizing any USB connection when i connect my HD2 to the computer. If i need to flash a stock rom via RUU wrapper to get through this stupid ROM code error, i need a USB connection at the first place...which IS NOT WORKING NOW!!!...im sitting duck here guys...i really really need your help on this one.im extremely frustrated and helpless.thanks alot...
When u say USB not working, how do you know?
Put phone in bootloader, connect USB cable,,, on phone does "serial" become "USB"? If yes then just run the flash.

Hey all,
Just a little background information:
- Hard SPL'd my phone to flash Dutty's cooked ROM.
- All of a sudden one day, the phone switched off. I tried to boot it up but it will freeze on the HTC loading screen where it displays the radio version, ROM version in red down the bottom - the phone would not go any further.
- My computer won't even recognise it when I plug in my USB.
Anyway, I figured I'd try to uninstall HSPL and start over again. I downloaded an official HTC ROM, tried to load into the bootloader and now I'm stuck.
The screen reads:
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again
If I pull out the battery/SD card, it will load into this screen again.
What *I THINK* may be the issue is that I didn't use the original ROM SPECIFIC to my phone, i.e. WWE Asian ROM.
I've updated the ROM image on my SD card but I can't get into the original bootloader to start the uninstallation process again.
Help!
Ok, nice and calm, are you sure you can't get into bootloader mode?
Power off, sim and sd card out (just to be sure)
hold volume down, tap power, continue to hold volume down.

I can get into the bootloader just fine.
It will display the error message and I can't do anything.
OK, so if you can get to the 3 coloured screen, you can just flash HSPL (if it isn't still installed) and flash a new rom.
Boot to bootloader(3 coloured screen), connect to computer, run HSPL.exe

My computer refuses to connect to the phone.
I'll plug in my USB cable, windows will make the connection sound but the phone won't load into Windows Explorer.
What does it say by the spl? 1.42.0000? or 1.42.HSPL?
Actually it doesnt matter, when you hear the connection sound, thats enough, Run HSPL.exe, and if its not already installed, it should install, if it is already installed it will say 'hspl requires 1.42.000' or something.
Either way, you can then go ahead and flash a new rom.

No, it doesn't work.
When I run HSPL.exe, it says it can't find my phone.
I already have HSPL installed with a custom ROM.
The phone is stuffed whereby I couldn't get past the HTC logo screen - it just freezes there.
I tried uninstalling HSPL thinking this would solve my problem with no luck.
The phone boots into the bootloader with an error message that I can't seem to get around.
Ah ok, so you get the error message on the 3 coloured screen? If that is the case, then spl itself is corrupt.
I thought you got the error message when the phone tried to boot, my mistake.
Next to try then is to find the original rom that came on your phone, and flash it from sd card, and hopefully it will overwrite the spl. It must be the correct rom for your provider and region, though.
If that doesn't work, then i'm afraid all I can do is wish you best of luck.

I think this is where I went wrong.
I tried uninstalling HSPL with a ROM that wasn't from my region which is why I'm getting these errors.
Surely there's a way around this?
If you can find your original rom, there is a good chance you will be fine, OR you can probably try the goldcard route, however i'm not 100% so i wouldnt go handing over cash (goldcard isn't free) until you are sure.
Do you know what rom you are looking for?

I'm sure my phone's original rom was the WWE Asian version from Hong Kong.
I've uploaded the ROM onto my SD card but I can't get the bootloader to load it.
As stated before, I used another ROM at first and then it crashed on me.
Everytime I start the bootloader, it won't let me load the Asian ROM from scratch.
It just displays the error with no way around it.
Hmm, ok, just a couple of last thoughts then i gotta go to bed.
1 - sd card formatted fat32
2 - some people have better luck with 2gb cards than with bigger ones.
3 - Was the phone bought direct unlocked from HTC or is there a chance its provider locked? (i.e are you REALLY SURE you have the right rom)
4 - RUU_Signed.nbh coppied to sd card and renamed leoimg.nbh
Gotta go, best of luck.
ok. u are getting error in bootloader? what exacly is the error message you are getting..
Hard Reset
I had a similar problem to this and a hard reset solved the problem. Did you try a hard reset? I think its press volume up and volume down and power simultaneously.

Even that won't work!
Confirmed hard reset but pressing "Volume Up", then the screen blacks out immediately and nothing happens.
When I press the "power on" button, all I see is an exclamation mark for a second then a black screen.
I think the solution is for you to try flashing to HSPL again.
1. Boot to bootloader mode by pressing Vol down key and click the Power button. You should get the tri colour screen, and the word "Serial" on the bottom.
2. Plug in the USB cable to your PC. The word "Serial" should then change to "USB".
3. Run hspl.exe as administrator.
I did the same as you previously when I tried to load the SEA 1.66 ROM on my Hong Kong English phone, and recovered it by using the above steps. I had to run HSPL 3 times before it worked. The first 2 times, it would seem to work as I'd get the "We Hacked it!" message, but when I rebooted the phone to the bootloader, it still wasn't HSPL. Only on the 3rd try, did it successfully load HSPL to the bootloader.
-edit-
You can download the original Hong Kong CSL ROM from a link in this thread.
got to say, if in doubt - goldcard it!!!
what is your spl version now? 1.42.0000 or 1.42.hspl '?
only bootloader is never a problem with hspl installed.
only bootloader is no problem with original spl version as long as you have a compatible stock rom.
\I wonder whether the phone would connect to computer properly.
After plenty of reading around, I've finally fixed the issue!
It was the easiest of all fixes - all I had to do was to download the original factory ROM the phone came with (.exe file) and run the executable with the phone plugged in via USB.
Thanks to all those who have tried to help.
I decided it's best to open another topic, as the subject has changed and the other topic seems to have died more or less.
I have found out that the problem with my HD2 is that the radio is corrupted. However, I failed every time I tried flashing a new radio, even though I tried both USB and SD card methods.
Is there any way I can format the part of the memory where the radio is? I would also like to mention the fact that task29 failed too, as it never goes over 0%.
For anyone who doesn't know what my problem is: the device will not go further than a white screen of death when booting. I can get into the bootloader, but that seems to be useless up to now.
I would like to point out the fact that I successfully flashed a custom ROM via SD card, but that made no difference whatsoever.
boot to bootloader, what does it say next to 'spl'?
assuming the answer to the first part is something like ''x.xx.hspl'' then try flashing a new radio. Go for, example, 2,10 radio, that way it doesnt matter what rom is on there, it should work.
If teh answer to teh first part is ''x.xx.0000'' then hspl is not installed, and you should start over with hspl2 or hspl3

I have tried several radios, such a 2.07, 2.10, 2.12 and neither of them worked.
I currently have 1.42.HSPL installed, so it should.
USB does nothing: one time it got to 1% then failed because of "the image being corrupt", and the other 100 times I tried it never went past 0%.
SD card is no better: the progress bar fills up then it says:
00018003
LEOIMG.nbh - FAIL
RADIO_V2 - FAIL
Update terminate - UPDATE FAILED
And that's it.
i should stop using sd card, for a start. Stick to one method (usb) and the possible problems immediately halve.
First off i would return to a stock rom. In my case i would use teh original o2 1.43 stock rom, but you can use the 1.66 wwe if you arent sure of your stock.
boot into bootloader and physically check that hspl is still installed - it can be removed by sd card flashing, even if teh rest of teh flash fails, so always worth double checking, not just assuming that it is still installed.
assuming it says 1.42.hspl as you expect, and not anything ending .0000, then connect to usb and wait for teh word 'serial' to become 'usb'
When it does, on your pc run the stockrom.exe file.
Please post any resulting success/errors..
(oh and dont make the newb mistake of leaving a rom image on your sd card, else it will try and flash that.

im in the same boat mate and have yet to get it working..mine doesnt fail flashing all the time, but quite often. same thing with the radio v2 fail. i can use bootlader no problem, use hspl to lock and unlock no problem, sometimes a flash goes ok with usb but quite often it doesnt, and when flash from sd to say put a stock rom and relock it it will quite often fail exactly like yours but other times it says its a good flash. if its a good flash itll hard reset like normal, but just wont boot past the white htc screen. i agree at this point, it has to be something related to the radio...whether its corrupt like you were saying or some kind of hardware failure
just a note it is odd that a number of us are all having the same issue..its not just a few anymore
heh ignore, ill re read

step 2....... why? did i not advise against sd card flashing? when you run the update on your pc it is restarting the phone, which is immediately flashing the rom from your sdcard,,,,, not the one on your pc.
the problem is that it immediately has removed hspl, and so the rom fails the region check.
remove the nbh from your sd card, and do all the other steps. you may have to reapply hspl, so run hspl2 and choose either 1.42.hspl or 1.66.hspl

heh, d;oh. ill re read and try again (it was the LEOIMG.nbh - FAIL RADIO_V2 - FAIL bits from teh earlier posts that had me thinking he was still using sd card, cos those are sd card flashing errors)
so with the communications erros, could be AV software, firewall, or simply wrong usb port. try all ports (im sure you have by now) and if poss try a whole different pc.

lol no worries, i sure appreciate any help fellows like him and i can get. im certainly not new to winmo and im totally stumped.
Also guys, if you are having trouble flashing from USB , try some basic troubleshooting, if you are sure everything on the phone is correct ...
Try different USB port, also USB hubs and flashing can be bad mojo ...
Try a set of usb ports on the back of the PC rather than the front.
Try a different PC
Try a different cable
I also know it sounds strange, but I have seen some anti virus cause a flash to fail because of active scanning and it tries scanning the files in the flash directory while the flash is going on and locks them ...
All I got .....
oh and if the rom you downloaded came as a zip, dont run it from within teh zip. extract it first.

thanks mate, cant speak for the op but ive tried 3 different computers (xp,vista,7) different cables, everything. seems like roms will flash but it doesnt recognize a radio when booting, hence the white screen with no rgd info..so stumped.
edit..tried many many stock and custom roms and just about every radio out
The thing is that you seem to need a non-corrupted ROM to flash a radio, and need a non-corrupted radio to flash a ROM. As we have neither of them, all I can say is good luck to the guys fixing it at the service center.
I have given up; I have LITERALLY tried every possible solution I could think of. Just for the sake of it, I'll make a list here:
1. Tried all USB ports available.
2. Tried installing different drivers for the Active Sync.
3. Tried task29 w/o MTTY.
4. Tried task29 with MTTY. (Successful, but useless)
5. Tried removing HSPL.
6. Tried changing HSPL.
7. Tried flashing custom ROM. (both USB and SD)
8. Tried flashing stock ROM. (both USB and SD)
9. Tried flashing radio. (both USB and SD)
10. Double (even triple) read all of your useful comments and posts, clicked and typed the hell out of my mouse and keyboard, googled for any possible term I could come up with which was related to our problem.
I have given up for today. Tomorrow morning, I`ll have access to another laptop and I`ll try performing the same operations there, hopefully there will be a difference. All I want now is to get rid of HSPL off that bootloading screen, so that the guys from HTC won't have any reason to decline my warranty.
If nothing works, I will microwave the device for 3-5 seconds, and hopefully it`ll stop booting.
If you guys have any other suggestions, do not hesitate.

no, bootloader works just fine and it flashes sometimes..flash stock from sd and hspl is back on with stock rom..just wont boot.
oh... lucky you, I suppose...
I sure wished I could get it back as well, really don`t want to use such drastic measures...
Hey guys I have a hd2 that wont boot up anymore. I have installed several windows 6.5 cooked roms into this device for a while now. Recently this device has been given me a lot of problems until finally it took a dump. Now everytime i power up the device it stays in the splash screen. It doesnt even show radio version, rom version, etc on the bottom left of the screen. So is this hd2 dead or is there some way that i can fix it. I even tried installing tmobile's official rom on this device by going into the "rainbow screen" so that the device can be seen by using the usb cable, but alas....it didnt work either. So any help would be appreciated .
If it doesn't install, and nothing installs, then you need to take it to repair I guess.
I had a feeling about that. I just figured there was no way to fix it and the fact that i couldnt send it back to tmobile to get a replacement was out of the question since the firmware was modified. But your saying there are shops that fix these kinds of issues? If so, I better start looking around over here.

why dont you try sd card method for flashing your rom !1! you can pm me if you need further help
Do you mean that it can't get to the boot loader screen (rainbow) or that trying to install a ROM from there didn't work? You might want to flash the original HSPL too, just to check.
What I mean is that everytime I boot up the hd2 it stays stuck on the splash screen. It doesn't even show the rom information in red at the bottom left corner of the screen. But I can boot to the tri color menu though. I have tried to install the tmous official rom by plugging the USB when I'm in the tri color menu and it always stays stuck at 9%. So is there way to fix this or am I screwed.
Sent from my Android Powered HD2 using XDA App
Try the sd-card recovery instead of the USB one.
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/01/how-to-upgrade-htc-hd2-rom-through-sd-card-video/
After that, even if it fails, it shows only SPL in the tri-color screen then you are set to claim warranty.

Well my bro... i think thats nand problems or heating issues ... does flashing rom goes all ok or it stops during flashing ? if stops than check if you phone is hot - hotter than normal.
Try this : Take out battery, memory card, sim card and put you phone in the fridge for about 5-10 min ( dont worry tried many times... no harm ) meanwhile prepare your sd card to flash rom with sd card method ... to do that extract Ruu rom - stock one - download with hd2 serial nr ( winrar, 7zip etc) find Ruu_Signed.nbh rename it to LEOIMG.nbh than copy to sd card ( format you sd card fat32 and make sure it works ... 2gb will work ) take phone out from fridge put sd card & battery into phone power one phone while holding volume down key ( go into tricolor screen - bootloader) and follow procedure in phone... i hope everything goes well and you fix you phone... but if still no success than flash android or wp7 ( if you have warranty flash stock SPL and return phone).
best regards from me
Evening all, I was hoping you might be able to assist me with a problem I'm having.
I've owned my HD2 for a good 18 months or so and on the whole it has been fault-free, apart from the fact that it seems to randomly turn off in my pocket!
Anyway, I'm now getting the so-called 'white screen of death' when I turn the phone on. There is no text or information on the screen - it's just completely white. At this point I can't press anything and I can't do anything.
I'm on the Virgin Mobile network and the history of my phone is very simple (which may even be part of the problem!): I've not changed a single thing on it since I bought it.
The only action I've tried is performing a soft reset, as it's the only thing I know how to do. Needless to say it didn't solve the problem.
Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated. Many Thanks.

put it in a bag, stick it in the freezer for 5 mins and try again. If it boots it's a hardware failure and you need it sent for repairs.
Thanks for your reply orangekid.
I tried what you suggested but the phone still won't boot. Looking at what you said before, does this mean it isn't a hardware failure?
Can you get the phone into Bootloader Mode (with phone off, press and hold the Volume Down button and then tap the Power button)?
Hi fred_up.
Just tried the volume down button and tapping the power button and the screen is now divided up into 4 colours, ascending from the top: red, green, blue and white.
The text in the red section reads:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x30
The text in the white section reads:
Serial
I take it this is Bootloader Mode?
Thanks again for your responses.

if your there connect a usb....if it reads usb on the buttom of the screen flash a wm6.5 rom just to get it back on to working mode...there is hope my friend
I´d still try a hard reset.
If you´re still running the original ROM, maybe it will help. After that much time, maybe some system files got corrupt. The factory ROMs don´t leave much space on the internal memory - a major reason why a lot of users go for leaner custom ROMs.
"Flashaholics" like myself probably don´t make such an experience since we re-install everything on a regular basis.
Yes that is Bootloader Mode. Your phone has a very old ROM on it.
If you just want to run the Vodafone WinMo6.5, then go to HTC's website and download the ROM. You need to use your phone's serial number to get the ROM - this guarantees that you have the correct ROM.
You should have the choice of the 1.72 and 3.14 version of the ROM. The 3.14 is obviously the newer version.
Have your phone fully charged. Remove the SD Card and the SIM - personally I have never needed to do this, but I suppose it doesn't do any harm to be extra cautious.
Put your phone into Bootloader Mode, then attach it to your computer (the 'Serial' will change to 'SUB').
When you download the ROM, then run the .exec file (if you are running Vista or Windows then you must do this as an Administrator). Tick the boxes and the Next. Don't worry about the ActiveSync message, as being in Bootloader Mode bypasses this requirement. The procedure takes about 20 minutes, so don't worry if it takes a few minutes to do anything.
Thanks for your responses.
fred_up, I've gone on to the HTC website (I would post a link but I'm not allowed yet) but can't seem to see what I'm looking for. I'm with Virgin Mobile - does this make a difference to the ROM I need to download? (I see you mentioned a specific ROM for Vodafone)
All the ROMs on the HTC site seem to be 'updates'...
Sorry about the Virgin / Vodafone mix up.
I take it that you are from the UK.
I would then and try and download the HTC stock version 1.66 (Release Date: 2010-01-25) or 3.14 (Release Date: 2010-10-11). The site also has the 1.48, but I wouldn't bother using that. Don't wory that it says upgrades as a ROM from HTC contains everything (main and RADIO ROMs and SPL).
The reason that I show the option for the 1.66 ROM is that when you went to the 3.14 ROM it could only run via the 3.03 SPL, which meant that you could not flash WP7 or Android (Nand) or run the dual boot of WM6.5 ROM and Android on SD.
Thanks fred, I'll give that a go and let you know how I get on.
yes the 1.66 rom is the latest 'sic' that Virgin support
Hi johnerz. Apologies for my ignorance, but what do you mean by 'sic'?
fred, I've attempted to connect the phone to the computer via USB, but the 'Serial' doesn't seem to change to 'SUB' - is this an issue?
Also, the ROM Upgrage ReadMe says to 'Back up your personal data from the Mobile Device to your computer using ActiveSync if you want to ensure you don’t lose any of your data.' Is this possible to do, so that I'd be able to put the data back on the device once it's fixed?
Many thanks.
'SUB' should have typed 'USB' - I really must learn to read.
If the 'Serial' doesn't change to 'USB' then it can be one of three things:
A problem with the computer's USB - try a rear USB connection.
A non-Data or faulty USB cable - try and use another cable.
A faulty USB port on the phone - you have to use the SD Card method.
As for backing up your data, if you've not done it prior, then anything that is stored on the phone (not stored on the SD Card) is lost.
A golden rule is that if you cannot afford to loose data, then you should have at least one copy of it.

To be honest, I did fear the worst about my data. It's not a major issue though - at the moment I'd just love to have the phone up and running again.
I'll bring a different cable in to work in the morning and try the USB method again.
Thanks
I think the easier method is just to do a hard reset. I think I've seen the WSOD once, and hard reset resolved it. Then you need to restore your data and program from backups. Still it is less work than flashing via USB.

'sic' or more commonly [sic] means that it is a exact quotation which includes any errors. Thus it is not an error that the reproducer has made. Normally it is used to show grammatical or spelling errors of the original quotation.
In Johnerz quote from Virgin, they state that the 1.66 is the latest ROM, but we all know that the 3.14 ROM is the latest.
Evening fred, I think I may have to try a different approach.
I can't seem to get the 'serial' at the bottom of the screen to change to 'USB'. I've tried starting Bootloader mode then connecting the cable, with no luck. I've also tried connecting the cable first, but then it doesn't even let me enter Bootloader mode. I've tried all the USB ports on the computer (front and back) with no joy, but the strange thing is that the cable must be working as the computer detects that I've got a device connected and starts the Hardware Wizard. Strange.
Another strange thing is that when I connect the phone to the computer, the orange 'charge' light comes on, but no matter how long I leave it, it won't go green (fully charged). Perhaps it's a faulty battery or something... I don't know.
I may have to try the SD card method you mentioned earlier. Or perhaps a hard reset as recommended by alex? Which option would you suggest?
Many thanks to all once again.
Evening all,
I've just read up and tried the hard reset via the external buttons - unfortunately without success. The phone is still playing up as before: when I try to boot up I'm greeted with a blank white screen.
As a last resort, is there anything else that anyone can suggest? I'm willing to have a go at anything, such as the SD card method suggested by fred in an earlier post, if I can just be pointed in the right general direction.
Many thanks.
As a quick check, as you say you have done Soft Resets, is the battery connection pins on the phone okay.
Sometimes doing a Soft Reset the easiest option is to pop out the battery rather than pressing the Reset Button. This can occasionally can bend one of the pins and has been known to cause booting up problems.
