So I am using a Unlocked Rogers Samsung Focus on Fido. The data only works when the 3G+ symbol is displayed and not 3G. However, when browsing the web it contantly changes from 3G+ back to 3G and the internet no longer works. Is there a way to stop it from disconnecting from 3G+, or a way to set it so it is always on 3G+? Anyone else have this issue?
I'm kinda noticing this too, who's your provider?

I have a similar problem with AT&T unlocked. Everything works on 3G except downloading from Marketplace. Mail, browsing works. I can browse, see info, ratings etc on Marketplace but I can't download, I get the "Attention required". When I switch 3G off (goes to HSPDA) I can download.
I just noticed this, no idea when it happens or why. In EU not US...

"Attention required" means you have to download by WiFi. They did this to save the carriers data network. I don't have WiFi so I spent a lot of times at the local McDonald's downloading games.

Interesting. Is there any link for this, something I can read? Seems pretty weird for MS to do it out of the blue with no warning.
As I stated, it does download after I switch 3G off in the Cellular settings. So it does download apps from mktplace but not through 3G.

Hi,
I have searched high and low and probably not well enough, but I couldn't take it anymore. I'm having trouble getting connected when I'm on 3G. It won't let me go online. As soon as I move and I get a GPRS connection, it's all good. But the moment it shows me the 3G sign in the notification bar, internet stops working.
It used to work fine and I even managed to get it to work once for a couple of minutes orso. But it keeps happening. Even after hard reset, I can't get past google signup when it's showing 3G. But when it's showing GPRS, it does work.
Just did it again > If I "use 2G networks only", wait and disable it again. My connection goes dead for a second, but then pops up and everthing works fine untill the screen goes off. It seems it doesn't always work when I do this.
I'm on JF1.31 rc30 and dutch T-mobile with WnW 384 / 64 Kb/s unlimited data.
By "hard reset" did you remove the battery? That worked for me.

If you're across the pond, don't you need RC8? That may be the problem there... Also, I can't say from personal experience, but from what I understand about the difference of 3G there from 3G here is that we use 1700mhz down/2100mhz up while you use 2100mhz for both down and up. I've seen posts where people have said they've had 3G over there but I can't say for sure. I believe it can though, it might be the apn differences between RC8 and RC30.
Also, look in the thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466174 for the latest JesusFreke RC8 if you do need it.

Also with RC8, on 3G can't connect. Can't even sign in on my gmail account to activate the damn thing.. Waiting to get a gprs signal to sign in

Turn of 3G connections to force it to GPRS so you'll at least be able to sign in.

I have no idea how or when, but on my 20th or so try to log in, it did. I think it was on GPRS, but I'm not sure. But after that it went all the way. 3G was working again. All of that on the RC8 version. Maybe google had problems or smt?
So I guess thnx ipaqkiller

Since it seems as though the Wi-fi periodically just shuts down for some reason and I don't notice, thus spending so much money on 3G which is so slow, how do I shut it down?
(Just wondering...what is the point of 3G and all the other HDSMA and all that stuff) Oh and are there any of the other connections that may require cash? Or are they important for some reason...like GSM.
EDIT: Wait...is 3G required for the phone to function? If so, how do I avoid wasting money on 3G for other things like surfing the internet...using the youtube panel...
No, u can disable it with a program called noData
Will the lack of 3G affect anything? Because...I spent over a whooping $100 on some Mobile Data...which basically makes up 95% of my entire phone bill.
EDIT: Wait was that "no" for whether the 3G was vital for anything? Anyway I have noData and I just disabled everything yet at the top there is still the symbol of a connection. It says:
3G M1-3GSM
ActiveSync Connected
Disabling gprs will not affect any programs on your phone, and with noData you can choose witch connections you want to block. (example: gprs internet, gprs push,..)
i disabled everything in nodata and i do not have any costs because the phone cannot establish a connection
i get the 3g symbol but i dont care about it
I deactivated everything and yet I am still able to get into the Opera browser...and wi-fi is off...

I shut it down in settings --> phone --> network and selected only GSM band. This will take away the 3G connection still leaving GPRS connection available. However, this implies installing no other software AND consuming less power (am I wrong on this latter point?!)

Okay...not just the opening page. I tried going into gameFAQs and it worked.
The 3G symbol appears at the top though, meaning there is an available network but it is not connected. This disappears completely when I activate Opera...so how do I determine that 3G is really off?

Hello, I am about to soon get my new HD2 and wondered if there were any AT&T cabs that will automatically update all the network settings, MMS, text, etc for the phone or if there is a resource for setting all these net settings up?
Also, while I have you what has your experience been on AT&T with your new HD2's? How is your internet speed been without 3G?
Anybody? I just ordered with Clove, and use ATT. I can tolerate Edge, but would like to know what others think.

Thanks sir! Can't wait to get mine!
I've found it to be very fast on ATT. I have gotten around 180kbps download using the iphone speed test site but it loads pages so quick! And as stated it will auto configure. Only problem I had was that youtube failed to work on wifi so I had to delete the wap.cingular proxy in the registry for youtube.
You are telling me that youtube worked at all with Edge speeds? I was thinking youtube would be out for this phone on AT&T without 3G...

Should work just fine, just on edge speeds. Besides, you can always pause it and wait a minute or two for it to download a bit ahead.
How are those on AT&T finding the Edge and GSM reception levels?
I had the HD and used it on ATT with EDGE only. It worked just fine. Just got the HD2 in Bangkok and cant wait to get back Stateside and see how she works.
How about the MMS settings on at&t. Did it auto config for that too? Have you sent or received any mms's on it yet with at&t? Thanks.
i have had the phone working on ATT in the states for 3 4 weeks .....everything works fine MMS SMS email ..you tube is slow ......but like others ...occasinaly missed calls , text get held up and the keyboard takes a lot of time to get use to ....i mean alot ....coming from iphone

Where did you delete? I did the normal registry delete wap.cingular where I have deleted in the past to make my touch pro 2 youtube work and now I just get an error that says youtube connection failed, please try again?? Am I missing something? I can see the video listings thou.
EDIT: Did a hard reset. Seems to be working now. after the reg edit, I had to watch the video on EDGE first then try to watch it on wifi. I was trying wifi first with zero results. Weird.
Mine works fine on AT&T. I use MIFI.

I would like to start taking advantage of youtube, running on ATT's US network. It seems difficult to download these videos without having errors. Could someone be more specific as to, how to: "delete the wap.cingular proxy in the registry for youtube", and will this really solve the problem. Thank you in advance for the advice.
here is the quote on how to fix it.....
Youtube wifi fix:
Got if fixed IF YOU'RE ON at&t: for those of you on at&t in the US, i finally got the YouTube app in Dutty's 2.1 ROM to work. Yeah!!! i used a registry editor and removed the value "wireless.cingular.com:80" from the Proxy setting under the key HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\HTTP-{436eF144-B4FB-4863-A041-8F905A62C572}. next, i fired up the YouTube app and it connected almost instantly. i waited for 3 minutes, soft reset and tried again to make sure the settings are not reset automatically: the settings survived and YouTube connected almost instantly. since i have 2 Touch HD's (one an EDGE only the other 850 3G) that had the problem, i fired up my second one, deleted the same key and it connected without issue. performed the soft reset and it worked as well
I installed the cab file. MMS and internet seems to be working. But some things like E-mail and Google Maps seem to not work. What do I need to do?

I believe MMS always goes through cellular data.

Something came up for crackberry users that stopped them from using UMA and since WIFI calling hits the same servers as UMA, i.e... they are the same thing, I suspect that your issue might be the same as what they were having. Your ISP's DNS is blocking the service. If you can change your DNS settings to OpenDNS.com and give it another try. This may not fix your issue, but I know it did for a whole lot of crackberry users.

I get the same error message. Just got off the phone with a tmo rep and she said that there's a signal outage(?) around Atlanta and that's why I can't get ANY cellular connection whatsoever. But I remain skeptical, as my friends on TMO are having no problems and the "outage" just so happened to affect me right after the OTA was installed. My fingers are crossed that everything gets fixed though.
Mines works fine, it depends on what kind of network your on. On my campus it would not work, but when I got to my gf apt it worked perfectly. So check the wifi settings that you haveto make sure there isn't a firewall or something else set up.

Mine works on my college campus great. I have terrible coverage here. This may be a stupid question but, it only uses minutes when I'm actually calling someone right? Not however long it is enabled? I'm only asking because I'm tired of getting screwed over in ways that I logically shouldn't be.
Yea it only uses minutes when you are calling. Also I don't know what college you go but I go to umiami, so our networks are really strict with regard to using them for gaming or any kind of tethering. So I'm guessing they haven't allowed us access to do that here. But on any other networks like a home network it works perfect.

Crap. I just sorted out my issues with things draining the battery and now Wifi calling is running rampant. It stays running in the foreground even when it is turned off and logcat shows that it is constantly active even when the phone is asleep. Is anyone else seeing anything like this?
well i would like to know why its wifi calling if tmobile still use the mins from your plan thats like stealling it helps tmo they use less data but still charge us for it

yea, what he said. Cellular towers are like a gateway to the Tmobile internet. The still pay for all the fiber and backhaul that gets your calls and data where ever it is that you want them to go.
i just updated and i opened up wifi calling and configured it. i dont understand how its wifi calling when it still uses our minutes? whats the point of having it then? what benefit is there to having this app?
Yea we can but we are literally forced to just web browse lol
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
T-mobile has had the "charging for minutes via wifi" policy now for YEARS going back to the first Blackberrys that supported UMA. Minutes were deducted unless a customer paid for the @home service per month. You can complain all you want, but if you consider the other carriers and their options---T-Mobile does NOT charge for HSPA+ (4G) access while other carriers do, and some charge even if there isn't 4G in that city just based on the phone! Wifi calling can also prevent you from incurring roaming charges by allowing you to make calls from almost anywhere you can get wifi access a feature that other providers just don't have. T-Mobile gives more minutes for less money, offers more data download than other carriers, and offers some truly awesome features that others just can't compare to.
Although WiFi calling uses up our plans minutes, if we have unlimted weekend minutes, use it on the weekends, is it free or does it take away from the anytime minutes?
I am on the stock ROM (JDQ39B) on Vodafone Romania and I'm getting 0.02 Mbits while on a phone call. I don't think that's normal. Is anyone else having this issue on any other ROM/carrier?
AFAIK it's normal. Data shuts off more or less when you are making a call. Try calling and surfing /downloading while being connected to a wifi network. That should work.
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app
That does work, but it doesn't help when you're out. I don't think it's normal. It shouldn't happen. There's plenty of bandwidth to accommodate a phone call and a web page. Except I can't even load a web page, while on a phone call. I don't think this has ever happened to me before, on any of my previous phones.

depend on how your network set up is. In the U.S, LTE is shut off while on call, phone call will not work with LTE on, your network might be doing the same thing. check other smart phone to see if they have the same problem.
Yeah, I thought it might have something to do with the carrier, but I'm not talking about LTE. I'm talking plain old 3G (full signal). I can't even load a webpage, or access anything on Google Play.
