Is there anything i can do to increase signal strenth to provide a better connection to my xbox 360 for gaming....ive tried turning off background data which helped & also making call&text restrictions within the phone...PLEASE HELP
I would imagine your best choice is to shell out for a booster of sorts, but Verizon throttles heavy data users as well. If you have a dethottling patch, you might try a booster. But still, gaming over 3g is not very promising.

some of you know may know me, and i am letting you guys know now, i am deffinitely not a noob when it comes to this stuff.
anyways, im staying at a hotel in vegas, and i decided to tether my laptop instead of paying for wifi. its working really nice, but my tethering app says im geting 20+ mbs of download speed, and 2+mb of upload speed
im running JACS hero 1.8b4, overclocker at 527mb, and have a swap file at 128mb with 60 swappiness
now is it possible between the overclock and swap, that my tethering really is running that high? or is the app messed up.
Nope... don't think its possible to get that high speeds because as far as I know, 3G doesn't even support those speeds (in reality anyways). Overclocking and Swap should not affect internet speeds at all as they are two very different things (an old P3 500mhz can still have 20Mbits/2Mbits connection despite being very slow). The speed of your internet is determined by your provider not they phone. Don't know how you got those speeds, but make sure you're not accidentally paying for them, otherwise, enjoy your lightning speeds!
just go download a file from a web browser and see the download speed.
I'm so tired off hearing about numbers from stupid apps or even http based speedtests.
If your using the wifi tether for root user app the two numbers on the bottom are not your current speed but the amount of data you have downloaded and uploaded during your session. Otherwise make sure your wifi is not hooking onto something.
Hey all,
I have an idea for an application that I think could be really helpful. With more skill and experience, I might be able to write it myself but I lack in both of those fields
The general idea:
An application that can be used to measure the battery consumption, 2G/3G signal LEVEL, and data down/up SPEED over Wifi and cellular data modes, over periods of time. The device should not be moved or interfered with until the process has finished (i.e. an audio notification is used)
This could be useful for comparing various versions of radio and how they perform IN THE USERS GEOGRAPHICAL AREA.
Details:
The app will kill non-critical processes and services, and lock the phone for a short-ish space of time (e.g. an hour) so that it can test without disruption
In this time, it will read and record the cellular signal level (2G or 3G) every minute or so for the hour to find the average signal level and the same for Wi-fi
It could also download a small file using cellular and Wifi connections to test average download speed and upload could also be tested
There could be an 'overnight' mode or a longer time period where the battery level could be recorded over the space of several hours while the connection is idle or even kept alive. A decrease in battery level per hour could then be worked out
All this information is recorded and the radio is then rated in terms of battery consumption, connection strength and speed. The process can be repeated with other radio versions and the user can choose which radio suits them
What do you all think - viable or not?
A very good idea. Users can then publish their results in the forum and the radio choice will be far easier.
Good idea but so many variables, so what may be a good radio for one user may be awful for another...
dial ##DEBUG# from your phone or run the hidden file fieldtrial.exe from your windows folder. it has everything you could ask for regarding radio and consumption.
Hello. There are many people who are more intelligent than me and I hope they may answer my question. It's only slightly related to N7 and I guess it may be removed. Nevertheless, I'll have a go!
So, the problem is that I purchased a 2012 wifi N7 and I have a free 3g internet available. I want to use an old LG GT540 as a modem, The problem is that wifi tethering drains my battery really fast. Is there a way (an app, a frameowork, a setting) to reduce the wifi strenght? I always carry my N7 around LG and I don't want it to produce a very strong wifi signal.
Thanks in advance for any possible solutions.
So I just disabled connections optimizer because I was having issues with my hotspot and I get 2-3 times faster 4g LTE speeds now. Call me crazy but it's true, I've tested it by turning it back on and the speed goes back down!!! Anyone else want to test to confirm if it's a fluke or if we are really being throttled by sprint?
Speeds are crap here :/
Connection optimizer tries to pick the "best" connection available, switching connections in the background. I've always turned it off because it prioritizes wi-fi above all others (even when the available wifi connections are considerably slower than the 4G in the area). I think it may have even connected automatically to open wifi hotspots that I had never used before (it's been too long for me to be sure on that point, though). Even when it ultimately decided to stick with the 4G connection, the moment that it took to check other connections would interrupt many downloads and slow down those that managed to keep going - perhaps that's the issue you were experiencing...
But with it turned off, you should enjoy better battery life as well

Thanks for the details. I see that the second post is showing very high download speeds. Why are you saying they are crap?
In reply to the styles 420, I wasn't experiencing overall issues, I just noticed an immediate LTE improvement after I disabled sprint optimizer. When I turned it back off immediate decline. Speed test with connections optimizer on would be around 3mb/s, immediately after turning off optimizer, standing in the exact same location, my speeds are 7-9 mb/s. Please more people test this to see if you see an improvement, doing a before and after a few times with connections optimizer on and off for mobile.
bump - someone else please try this need at least 5-10 people to try.
Turning mine on and off changed it a little bit.
Turned on top pic and bottom pic is turned off. only.
Wow good news that's over triple increase in upload 33% increase in download! Thanking you for the post, anyone else please share?

If you are having problems with your hotspot I found a useful app that stops it from breaking up. "Connections Optimizer" stops disconnections and if the connection is forced off it reconnects more quickly (works best with super access ). At home I make my hotspot through my PC with pda.net. through the hotspot my speeds are actually double what they are through mobile data.
Well piggy where my lte speed is supposed to be way faster i use my wifi in my house. Lte sucks here.
Ya to me my 5-10 mb LTE is bad because I have 170 at home but for people who use LTE a lot outside like me it is a big deal. other people please post your before and after connections optimizer speeds we are seeing big improvements.
This thread isn't about hot spot it is about connections optimizer actually throttling your Internet speed. If you can please post before and after speeds with connections optimizer on and off, testing from your phone with speed test.

My LTE sucks here as well. It depends on the time of day I use it. I can't even use the connections optimizer anymore. If I don't disable it my connection gets interrupted every 10 minutes or so. I use 100gb+ from Sprints network every month so they dial me back. I get around it by installing a new ROM or resetting the SCRTN often. I think that the device is programmed to remember home (where you spend most of your time) and it dials it back there. A new ROM will get up to 10mbs for a day or so and then it kicks back to .5 - 1.5 at home. If I go somewhere else it jumps up to 20.
I don't have WiFi at home right now. If you read the description in the optimizer it says it is designed for the smart switch. So, unless you are somewhere that there is WiFi for it to switch in and out of it does no good.
Read op on Google's policies for WiFi. You will be surprised to find what they say about it. Unless you opt out devices are allowed to make quick connections to anyone's router.
Ya that's normal for 4g to go up and down depending on where you are and how much data you have used. But good to know that your speed does go up with connections optimizer off!!! That's 4/4 people I belive? Anyone else care to test before and after speeds in same location?

I tried it out to get you the picture you requested. I did 4 tests. I was actually getting better speeds with the optimizer on. The forth one didn't show in the total. In my screenshot 1 and 3 are with the optimizer off and 2 is with it on. It's 1mb faster with it on. I'll try again later when I'm not at home.
The 1mb isn't worth leaving it on when it's not plugged in because of battery usage from having to leave the GPS. Also, I don't use it because I get interrupted every few minutes with a notification saying connections optimizer has stopped.
Any way to do this? Looking at some hardware for my car, problem is that I want WiFi based system for least amount of lag while having active data as said hardware won't be a Internet access point.
Other wise I suck it up and buy Bluetooth version or get it hardwired with USB which will suck for when I'm outside the vehicle.
Any thoughts?
This is most likely the wrong place to post, but I am using a V20 (note 7 refugee)
Found a link, amongst others they no good without root.

There are some tweaks under Developer Options to change how the phone prioritized cell/WiFi traffic. Maybe one of them will help.

Ya it's there, except for the little note "for fast network switching". Although aggressive handover might work depending on how it handles high strength vs all data packets lost. But with both on it might work with it keeping cell data enabled.
