[Q] Sell nexus one rooted or unrooted? - Nexus One General

Im getting ready to sell my nexus one and was wondering if i should leave it rooted or unroot and take it back to stock? Is a rooted phone worth more on ebay than an unrooted one? thanks alot
Gavin

Why can't you look on eBay yourself and have a look?

I did look on ebay and it didn't seem to really matter. more or less i wanted to know if there is more demand for rooted or unrooted. Ill probably just sell it rooted. Thanks.

That's what I would do
Most people buying a Nexus One at this point are going to want root and flash roms anyway

I would leave it rooted.

Return my Atrix to ATT but it is rooted, unlocked and unlocked sim

Hey guys I am still in my first 30 days of having the phone I want to return it and pay the restock fee. However I have unlocked, rooted and also sim unlocked the phone. Just wondering if I need to return it back to stock condition and if so how can I achieve this now. Or can I just take it to att and return it and pay the restock fee as is.
I usually just put it back in the box when returning it, they don't open the box if your just returning it, just make sure the sim card is out and such. To make it unnecessary to open the box

It's a good thing this wasn't ever talked about or covered be4.

And that was one google search.
I just returned my phone, I sbf'ed to a stock rom to get rid of the unlocked in the boot up and I was good.
@Phalanx That easy for you to be a douche huh? Didn't have to google search that to find out!
Can you explain the procedure I am still unsure even from links. I am running 4.5.91 btw and didn't see anything for that.

Nexus 7 Warranty Concerns (bootloader)

Ok, so the obvious solution to my problem is to return the unit and wait for a new one...
That said, here is my dilemma:
My son's birthday came around and he asked everyone for gift cards so he could get the Nexus 7 (his first tablet). We went to Best Buy and they had one, however it was Open Box. Every store in the city is (and has been) sold out, and we were going to get the 2-year in-store warranty anyway, so we went ahead with it.
Now, we got home and I noticed right away that SuperSU was installed. After looking further into it, the guy who returned it (reason it's open box) unlocked and threw a custom ROM on it. I had no intention of rooting or unlocking this tablet for him, so I'm a bit concerned about warranty now.
I returned it to stock via this thread, however knowing ASUS and their by-the-books RMA process, I have some concerns...
Is there ANY way that ASUS could determine that the tablet has been unlocked? Does the lock/unlock event get logged at all?
Alternatively, has anyone successfully sent in and gotten back a Nexus 7 that was at one time unlocked? Anyone get refused?
I really don't want to get stuck with a $200 repair on a $270 tablet...
Thanks guys.
I have the same question. Anyone got any experience yet?
Hmm, so far nobody has mentioned anything like a "flash counter", but I am curious as well to find an actual answer. If we flash custom ROM's or unlock the N7, and then restock it, will the warranty still be honored?
You got a 2 year in store warranty, why return it to Asus then?

This is a Nexus device. The device is setup to be unlocked. Unlocking does not void the hardware warranty.
There is no "counter".
No your previously unlocked boot loader will not affect your RMA process. Only reason it would void your warranty is if you bricked it as a result of the unlocked bootloader. And no there's no flash counter.

Man I would be so pissed!!! I would go to best buy and either get money back or new device. Why would they give you a open device?!?!

I had the exact same problem, maybe worst because mine was in a new sealed box, but hsve custom rom on it, is ur working great? did u flash it back to stock rom?

Best buy always sells open box items, generally it's not a problem but ASUS in particular are jerks about it.
I wouldn't Rma through ASUS but best buy likely would after getting it from me.
The minute I found the custom recovery I flashed it all back to stock and re locked the boot loader. Did the ota update and all is normal now, was just curious if there is any history stored of unlocks and such.
Might as well flash him a good ROM now that it's been unlocked anyway
No one's mentioned anything about a flash counter, and given that it's a Nexus, it seems unlikely. Even if there is one it's now water under the bridge.

question rooting and at&t warranty

Did anyone get the extra 9.99 warranty? I purchased it and I'm thinking about rooting. Since I never rooted in the past, am I missing out on anything special? I'm not into the custom roms, I like the Samsung rom. Reason I'm asking is I postponed the most recent update.

I'm not sure what your question is. Is it about rooting? (there are guides in the "general" section that you can follow). Are you just wondering about who bought a warranty? (I have Square trade). Or, are you wondering if rooting voids the warranty? (In most cases, yes, but certain warranties allow for it, you have to ask or read the fine print).

I'm just scared to root since I purchased the att warranty. I check on Square trade warranty. Is the att warranty any good or am I throwing my money away.

I have read about people using the AT&T warranty OK, I guess it just comes down to preference. Read about each warranty and decide which one better fits your needs.
As far as rooting goes, read the guide(s) posted and decide if it is for you. There are ways to unroot if needed or you can always use ODIN to restore to stock firmware. Read about some of these topics and options and you will be able to make a better decision about what you want to do. Good luck.
Man, I am always bringing up the rear. Always late to the party.
I know att will void the warranty if it is rooted, had a friend go thru exactly that.
I think it depends on what rep you get at att.
The reason I'm thinking of rooting is to use about 3 apps, one is titanium backup and the other is floating apps i think it is called and last is what apps I can use in dual screen mode. The At&t deductible is $199 omg that is the price of the phone
Not sure if all the trouble is worth rooting.

Sure, go for it. If you need to warranty it, you can unroot. Just make sure you do a lot of reading and get everything together before hand...that will make everything a lot easier. Go check Square trade out...it might be a better option for you.

Help an iphone refugee!

Hey guys, I have a simple question which I could not find any answer to(or more accurately I found several conflicting answers to). My friend just bought an LG G2 through AT&T and he wants me to help him set it up(hes fleeing the sinking ship know as the H.M.S. Apple). I heard that the Verizon G2 has a root check and that if you root, then you can never un-root in such a way that it won't stay tripped. I was not able to find out if this is the case with the AT&T variant of the phone. I need to warn him about rooting if it's going to void his warranty. Before I do that I'd probably advise him to sell the G2 right away and use the money to buy a Nexus 5 like I have so he can do whatever the **** he wants to it! :good: So if someone could confirm 100% whether or not the AT&T can be rooted and then returned in case of warranty work or not, that would be great!

[Q] How to sell a rooted phone?

So here's the deal everyone. Today I got the S5 :highfive:
I want to sell my galaxy S4 now. only problem is, it is rooted and the knox counter is "tripped". Is it possible to sell a rooted (flawless condition, lots of accessories) phone, and if so where?
EBay, swappa, cell trader online, craigslist. Swappa is a good one because most of those sellers are XDA members. But you can reach more people with eBay. Just be sure in the description you type that the phone is rooted.

I sent you a PM
Why not? I've sold my previous S2 and S3 on Ebay. I would not sell my device without wiping and restoring to factory stock, but I did offer to root it before shipping. Both times the buyer declined. Just restore your device to stock via ODIN and official firmware, and mention in the listing that KNOX is tripped meaning that any warranty work will likely be declined. Or if your phone is already out of warranty, don't mention it at all.
