Still on 2.3.2 - Nexus S General

Maybe there are some threads about this topic, but for some reason I can not find them, so I decided to ask here:
Is everybody who is using stock rom on Nexus S already on 2.3.3?
I am still on 2.3.2, because the OTA did not reach me, yet.
I know, Google said that it will take some weeks, but the was a lot of weeks ago.
I am dialing the *#*#2432546#*#* at least once per week, but no luck.
I don't want to root and and push it manually.
Anyone else in the same situation?

you don't need root to push it manually.
you just download the .zip from "2.3.3 links" thread, rename it to update.zip place it on the root of your sdcard.
boot into recovery, install update.zip from sdcard
reboot... grats on your 2.3.3

i think for the nexus s you don't need to rename to update.zip. i didn't have to for 2.3.2

I'm still waiting too I had my nexus s since January what's really good

There had been reports where people aren't getting the ota anymore. So manually update or don't get it at all.

Why would they stop pushing 2.3.3???

who knows... ask google.
conspiracy theories abound.

Im on 2.3.1

lol shame on you.

I believe they abandoned it and opted to push a newer update which would be released in April. But its almost May so who knows.
The manual update is incredibly painless. I don't understand why people are insisting on OTA.

Quick question regarding the manual update. Will I get future updates OTA after manually updating.?

yes its the same file you get from the OTA.

manual update was painless
I did as suggested, and it worked just fine.
I actually like the new color scheme. It looks more natural to me.
BUT, every time i wake up my phone from stand by, I get to see the GPS icon blinking in the notification bar.
Sometimes, even WiFi switches on itself.
I never saw this behaviour on the 2.3.2 build.
Is this the phone trying to update its location?
I don't want to switch off GPS or Networkin the Location & security settings, as I use Google maps multiple times a day.

Help with nexus S!

I just picked up my nexus S about an hour ago and so far I love it. This is my first smartphone so I have some noob questions. If I want to install a 3rd party keyboard (like swype) how/ where do I do this? How do I update the os to the nexus s? If I hook it up to my computer is it automatically gonna start updating it or something? I am not sure that I want the gingerbread 2.3.3 update because I love the display as it is now and dont want it changed.
For swype, just Google swype beta and sign up. I believe registration is open right now. As far as updates, your phone will eventually prompt you if you want to update. If you choose yes, it will download the update to your phone and perform the update.

Even I have the same doubt, how will I be able to upgrade to 2.3.3?
You can manually update if you follow the guides in the development section. Otherwise, you'll have to wait for the ovrr thr air update that they are in the process of pushing out right now. There's no way to determine when your device is marked to receive it. Could be minutes, hours, days.

[Q]

Hi all, Q&A forum wasn't much help. Perhaps you can shed some light for me.
I've been disconnected from the Epic community recently. Just the other day I found out about the official Froyo update, but my phone has never notified me about this. Also, when I go into settings to check for updates, it tells me there is none.
Everything tells me they are up to date; profile, firmware, and Android, but when I try to update the PRL it tells me I need to reset the radio. I have no idea what that means or if it's even relevant to why I cannot upgrade to 2.2.
How do I get my phone to update? I haven't been able to find anything in a search.
If it helps, my PRL version is 60676 and my firmware is 2.1-update 1.
Thanks for any help.
Update was pulled because it contain "bugs". Search for EB13 zip.exe ON HERE and you should find a mirror. Most users recommend using odin to install or factory reset 3 times then do the upgrade and you won't have any bugs. That's what I did. Their is a camera bug that is really bad but their is a fix in the development section. Search in there "EB13 camera patch".

I think what happend was that sprint pulled the OTA cuz of some issues. However u can use odin and download the .tar file here found in the development section and that should work with now issues or if u don't want to loose any data look for the update.zip in the dev section also. Sorry I can't give links cuz im on my phone but it shouldn't be to had to find good luck if u have more questions just pm me

Awesome, thanks for the help guys. Now I'm orientated with all this, I gotta avoid another prolonged absence here so I don't get so lost again.
i did the update through ODIN and it worked fine because the update was pulled
so far no issues
if u do the update with CW3 mod and EXT4 through ODIN, i don't believe the stock ROM will work
Any reason my phone didn't alert me when the update was available? It had always done that before with other updates (not market).

Rooted on 4.1.57 not seeing Update?

My Atrix 4g is rooted on 4.1.57 and I am not seeing the latest 1.8.3 update. help!
Me either. I'm pretty sure its not because of root though since others with root have gotten the update
Thats what I was wondering. I was able to update with the root last time, I don't see why this would be different
So we need to unroot and then update ?
And then root 1.8.3 with Gingerbreak?
Nothing should effect your ability to see it. If you have one of the pseudo roms installed, that will prevent you from installing it, however.
I don't think we need to un-root to see the update - that really shouldn't effect anything. Once we get to 1.8.3 GingerBreak will root it fine, the issue is just getting to that point via OTA Update which we aren't seeing
no root here and I'm still not seeing it yet.
1.8.3 isn't live yet FFS. So much damn misinformation floating around.

Rolling out doesn't mean live for everyone. Also, this update isn't official until ken releases Gingerblur 3.0 anyway, since the stock experience is pretty much a joke.
Is GingerBlur the best rom? // easy to install/update?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Just flash the sbf it doesn't wipe any data of course im not running any mods or "roms" other than root. It did get rid of root though and running gingerRoot wiped my internal storage (like it said it would), but i backed that up no harm ;-)
So my area in NC is not "live" yet it seems.
Not live in Philadelphia either

The patch isn't live yet folks! It's still being pushed out in testing.
I believe it's not root, but deodexed files which cause issues with updating. People with root have managed to update, but people like me who had GreyBlur had to flash back to 4.1.26, update to 4.1.57, update to 4.1.83, then root and sideload again. Also, before rooting, it's adviseable to use Kennethpenn's deodex flash for 4.1.83 first.
rooted, running gingerblur 2.5.. no update available yet here in south Florida. not too concerned about it though.. i did the HUSPA mod & i'm content for now

Manually Check For Updates on your XOOM

Just FYI anyone waiting for the xoom update it hasn't been successful for me yet but i will try every couple of hours. If you manually set the date to a farther ahead date say a couple days your xoom will check for an update. i noticed the time changing everytime i do it under system updates. So anyone wanting to force an update check change the date you can always just re check auto time.
Poop I Want it now.... is it including the bluetooth mouse support?
Just did this and update started downloading. Installing right now!

dev forums mention that you loose SU and have to redo the rights but then good to go.
just did this as well, tried it two times in two minutes.
First, nothing happened but the time changed for the last update.
Second time when I clicked the system updates under settings it popped up saying I had a new update.
Downloading now, well see how my rooted wifi only handles it!
Just finished... And nothing happened. I am still on 3.0.1, this happened earlier when I got an update notification and clicked install now or whatever.
Anyone know why this might be?
3.1 has a "check now" button.
The OTA update won't go through if you're rooted. Flash using one of the methods in the development section, or return to stock and wait for the OTA all over again (which is what I did.)
Did anyone update and not have it work? I installed the update and everything seemed to go well but after I checked about tablet section and it still says that it is 3.0.1. I am rooted running an older version if titamat. Haven't messed with it yet, at a first communion but was hoping someone had this problem

Should I update my ATRIX ?

Should I risk to update my unblocked, rooted and sideload enabled ATRIX or not (on the next possible update) ?
As the ATRIX is my first smartphone, I am still not so experienced on the smartphone / Android level. So I would would like to hear your opinions and experiences and ideas.
Would like to give some explanations first. I spent quite some time reading the xda threads and implementing these ideas. Result: my ATRIX is in a very "nice" condition now: Unblocked, rooted and sideloading enabled. I cleaned some annoying apps, did some fine-tuning (all thanks to the xda forum) and I am really happy with this nice little masterpiece of technology.
There are two update possibilities I am talking about:
- Build number (actually on my phone OLYFR_U4.1.8.3)
- Android version (actually 2.2.2)
According to the threads here in the forum, already the build number will get me back to unrooted. Can imagine what a Android version could do.
- So is it really worth ? All the hussle again after the update.
- How can I prevent (just in case) an update ?
Updating to 4.1.83 will also put you on 2.2.2.
You will lose root.
If you have uninstalled any Moto apps you will have to sbf 4.1.26 or 4.1.57 first. If you have frozen any Moto apps, you can just thaw them.
Personally I would back everything up, screenshot your home screens so you can set them up the same in worst case scenario of a wipe,, then go for it.
What all have you done to your phone up to now? i.e. gingerbreak, gladenable, theme......

What update are you asking about if you have 4.1.8.3? Are
you asking about the Gingerbread update? I won't update it
until the functionalities that I currently have are available on
that build.

+1 It sounds like you are already up-to-date. The version you posted is the same one your running.
Will explain my idea better
Sorry. As English is not my native language, I noticed that I explained wrong. Let me try better:
Yes. I am up to date. If I am updated, I do not know, but my ATRIX is ;-). 4.1.8.3 and 2.2.2. But ...
... as we read a lot about an upcoming Android Gingerbread for our Atrix, I am sunk in thoughts what should I do (when it happened !).
Actually everything is perfect on my Atrix, after a potential update probably not anymore. So will it be worth to update ? And to get everything back to "normal" (rooted, sideload, ...), the risk to brick the phone ...
Of course nobody really knows now, but how was it in the past with other Motorola smartphones ? For example the update from 2.1 to 2.2 ? What was your experience ?
Anyway. There is still my question, how can I disable an automatic update ? Would be happy, if somebody knows.
Solution for disable update 2.2.2
Just found a solution (already prooved if working ?) by WiredPirate in the xda forum
Titanium Backup
<backup/restore< "click to edit filters"< filter by name: "updater"< apply< updater2.2.2< freeze!
DO NOT FREEZE UPDATER
Sorry for caps - I've done it before & my battery life was shocking - Although i did freeze it after i started to get notifications to update
So what to do ?
- Update (when an update will be availiable) ? and all the work to get it back to rooted etc
- No update ? and to keep the Atrix like it is (as it is running fine)
Tell me.

I plan on waiting for the update to be out for awhile and read what others are saying about it.
Once they know how to get root, I'll update.
Keep in mind Titanium Backup can backup/restore just about everything after a wipe so it wouldn't be too much work..
I think this next update will be very much worth the hassle of rooting it again (you won't have to worry about sideloading - AT&T is going to enable it). I've read somewhere that for the gingerbread version, motorola's priority was for performance and this next version of motoblur isn't as bad as froyo's. Not only that, but gingerbread can make the 2 cores on the atrix work on every app, not only dual-core-optimized ones, and of course bug fixes, optimizations, etc. "Everything" should improve overall.
I'm in the same boat as you are (sim-unblocked, rooted, sideloaded) and when it goes live, i will wait a couple days before updating to see what people say about it. The only case i won't update it is if it removes sim-unblocking, which i doubt it will. Enabling root will be done eventually, these devs are awesome.

When Gingerbread for the Atrix comes out, you'll lose your root if you update. However, Gingerbread will enable sideloading, which is a huge reason for many AT&T users to root anyway. You will have to go back to stock 2.2.2 in order to receive the OTA update to Gingerbread. It's your decision as to update or not, but I think that the benefits of Gingerbread outweigh the downsides of losing root, etc.
I would say wait for the update, let others who knows what they are doing do the update and root etc. then read the thread and update if/when needed. At least that's my approach. I like Gingerblur 4 on my Atrix.
