it's a completely different network to set up and unlike metro pcs, att has a whole nationwide network to think about rather than just a few metropolitan areas.
Metro uses Verizon towers IIRC.
So it's possible they have a lease deal for LTE usage.

MetroPCS LTE is horrible! I tried it and got the ATT Atrix at the same time. A speedtest showed only getting 1.5MB over Metro LTE and im getting over 2MB on ATT HSPDA+ without backhaul....

Their LTE is actually VZW independent. They have had LTE before Verizon actually released LTE to anyone.

Not really...AT&T and Verizon are both going FDD-LTE on the 700mhz band...Sprint will get TD-LTE on the 2.5ghz~ range....
T-Mobile is going on their own HSPA/LTE hybrid variant...
So while Verizon and AT&T phones might be interchangeable (assuming they dont lock them say via some other method)..Sprint and T-Mobile will not be part of that...

Well its not impossible for a device to support both TD-LTE and FD-LTE on a single chipset..but we would then have to buy international phones..cause knowing carriers they either won't include those bands or lock them :/

700mhz is better building penetration over 2.5ghz..BUT how TD-LTE is allows carriers to use more spectrum...right now AT&T and Verizon plan to run it in 20mhz worth of spectrum each..realistically speaking that would constrain quantity of users/amount of data...(hence the tiered data)
Sprint right now though is running wimax in 10mhz of spectrum though..and could run it in 30mhz if they please..
So realistically speaking its easier to run TD-LTE as more spectrum is available in comparison to FD-LTE running at the limited 700mhz spectrum..while 700mhz spectrum though will offer betetr building penetration/signal

So its basically the 3g story again lol sprint has the better and same constant speeds no matter the load, but the signal won't be as strong lol. I can deal with that
And buyingunlocked international phones isn't bad...my friend only uses unlocked ones and they always have extra features compared to a branded one... and all he would have to do to activate it was slide his sim card in it. I hate how att/tmo users can effectively use any phone they want...I want this freedom with sprint/verizon

Sprint's LTE will act like the current Wimax implementation because it'll be running at 2.5ghz. We all know how spotty it is, especially when indoors.
Verizon and AT&T, at 700mhz will act their current 3G service because it's very close to 800mhz. They'll probably have an easier time getting better coverage because they know the 800mhz frequency.
Personally, I'd rather be at 700mhz for LTE, at 2.5ghz, you lose to much coverage and I'm sure Verizon already has the limited bandwidth figure out. If they didn't they could be throwing billions of dollars down the tube.
I can't wait for Verizon handsets to hit the market. My Sprint contract just expired so I'm looking to jump ship.

As I said its spotty because right now..
1) sprint is using only 10mhz of spectrum...
2) They are doing minimum deployments..aka the need mroe towers but being cheap...

Yes its called Tiered Data plans...not fun...
Anyway, wouldn't the first crop of Verizon LTE phones still rely on 1x for voice and 3G EVDO/LTE for data?
So basically we're going to have a scenario where a Verizon LTE phone would be something like this CDMA 2000 1x/1900mhz EVDO/700mhz LTE,
and
an ATT LTE phone might be like Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS 1900 (HSPA?)/700mhz LTE?
My 2 cents vzw & att are double what we pay for a premium phone service on sprint and not unlimited anything also have bad coverage. They nickel & dime the crap out of you on top of it. Also wimax has voice calling capabilities not just data. Lte for some reason can only do data. So maybe some new features with voice calling with wimax.

Wimax for voice calling? I find that scary. In its current iteration its flaky enough just for data. I shudder to think how crappy voice calling would be on it. They seriously need to build it out a ton more. I walk in my house signal disappears....not encouraging.

Sprint is working on making a seamless radio..aka unlike now where you need to enable/disable 4g it would work in a way that even if 4g is disconnected your session would not be interrupted...same for calls..
LTE doesn't require a SIM card...Verizon is CDMA
Is it possible? Cuz I bought an Epic frm craigslist but I dont know if I should go with boost for 3g speeds or just take the chance with metro...And I live in South Florida in 4g coverage area for metro
I highly doubt it, Sprint is the only company offering WiMax 4g is the US as far as I know.
Metro pcs has lte/wimax in a few cities. If they are usng the same spectrum then your chances are good that somebody can make a work around for that. Which I go to detroit mi once a week and they have their 4g there so I would use it if someone does this?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Yeah but it's just to find the genius who could do it...A couple of stores are near tom me but I doubt they could...I'll just wait or search my good friend Google til something pops up
How is the Epic going to work on MetroPCS' 4g? Doesn't Metro's 4g network run on LTE 1700 / 1900mhz in the very few areas they have 4g?
Sprint's WiMax/4g runs on 2.5ghz (2500mhz), so how would the Epic pick up a Metro 4g signal?

MetroPCS does not have WiMax. They use LTE (1700/1900) for their 4g. Sprint/Clear (and partners like Comcast/Time Warner e.t.c) use WiMax.

This was the point I was making, but wasn't sure if maybe they hooked up with Sprint at some point in time recently. We don't have Metro available in Tennessee...at least not that I have seen.
Metro and sprint use 2 completely different technologies.
If they used wimax and sprint had no wimax in the area, you should be able to 4g roam, but since sprint is essentially the only major provider its kindaa hard to get on someone elses wimax network
What I wanna know is can a metro pcs lte phone roam off verizon/any form of lte on the same frequency?
EDIT: nevermind. Verizon uses 700mhz
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Well, you could always double down and get a Clear account!
Thanx for the replies people...Guess I'll just go with boost & satisfy with 3g speeds
Just curious if this can be done?
They recently put up a verizon 4g on in my city and was wondering if i can force the epic to roam into verizon 4g, kinda like the roamcontrol app.

No. Totally different technologies.
impossible because Sprint 4g currently runs off a WiMax network which works pretty much as a country wide wifi network. Verizon's runs off of a LTE 4g network, which I THINK (not sure) runs off the same type of networking as 3g...could be wrong about LTE though
You are... but no its not possible OP

Ok,
I'm a psycho written it comes to putting phones on boost mobile, but without 4g it seems like a waste.
Since metro offers a 4g lte service, I'm thinking of switching.
Has anyone tried it yet, before i drop 700 on a project .
It's basically
Meid
Prl

Also does anyone know if it's possible to get metro pcs 4g lte running on a sprint note 2, that's the BIG question.
Would i require a doner micro sim, or does the rabbit hole go deeper

Sooo metro uses Verizon (for now, being bought out by TMob so that will ultimately change) you'll have a better chance using a Verizon gn2 as it will have the correct radios to use Verizon's lte already. Whether it will work is unsure as Verizon is notorious for not allowing their devices to be used on other networks easily

Nope. Sprint LTE is deployed on PCS band class 25. AFAIK metro's LTE is deployed on AWS spectrum. The two aren't compatible. Verizon's LTE is on 700MHz band class 13 so their Note II won't work either.

Hey everyone...
I travel to eastern Kentucky regularly and T- Mobile has zero service out there. The phones roam on AT&T. I was a T-Mobile subscriber for years, but every phone I had (Motorola Cliq XT, G2, Nexus S) would only get EDGE/2G data on AT&T due to TMO and AT&T using different 3G frequencies. The Nexus 4 is the first phone I've owned that works on both TMO's and AT&T's 3G and HSPA+ frequencies.
My question is... When you're roaming on AT&T's network with a TMO SIM, will the N4 connect to AT&T 3G and/or HSPA+? Or does AT&T restrict roaming traffic to EDGE/2G protocol?
Thanks!

Keep in mind that when roaming on AT&T's network, they restrict how much data you can use. If you use all that data up, you will not have data (even on unlimited plans) when you return for the remainder of the billing cycle.
