Anyone try this app on the Inc? It does make the SD card read/write much faster. I was wondering if it was bad for the phone or the card to do this. Seems ok so far and the app was free.
Yes, I've tried it on my Inc. I'm running CM7 with Chad's incredikernel and the app didn't make any difference for me, regardless of what I set it to. I also tried manually adjusting the read_ahead files, in the off-chance that the app itself just wasn't working. I still haven't been able to achieve any performance increase.
According to Chad, however, my lack of a result is normal given my setup:

From what I've read, the effectiveness of this method also depends on the card you're using.
Works great for me on Redemption Rom. No waiting to load thumbnails and phone feels a bit smoother
DROID Incredible
Yeah, been using it for a few days now and its a lot better. I would recommend this app to anyone with a larger SD card especially if you have a lot of stuff on it. its FREE!

Hello
I've flashe new ROM from SE (Vodafone UK image APP_SW_X1i_VFE_UK_CDF1215-0285_KOV_R2AA007).
I ran SKTools benchmark before and had results as below (without tweaks):
Integer;327.3780;Moves/25 usec
Floating point;7.399;MWIPS
RAM access;1471;Speed index
Draw bitmaps;788;Speed index
Main storage (write);10326.05;KB/sec
Main storage (read);16786.89;KB/sec
Storage Card (write); 652.30;KB/sec
Storage Card (read);2084.12;KB/sec
Now the test results after upgrading:
Integer;327.5500;Moves/25 usec
Floating point;7.499;MWIPS
RAM access;1516;Speed index
Draw bitmaps;776;Speed index
Main storage (write);2133.33;KB/sec
Main storage (read);7102.89;KB/sec
Storage Card (write); 983.04;KB/sec
Storage Card (read);6212.34;KB/sec
As You see, performance of mainstorage is poor.
Please write your experiences.

but subjective the device seems faster
hmm interesting, however from what i've seen around the forums, I believe SKtools benchmarks don't really provide very accurate results . . .
Other strange thing is that it's almost impossible to improwe performance using those well known tweaks (filesystem cache, glyph buffering ...)

Well I used to repeat SKTools benchmark few times and use statistic theorem
So that results are stable. In fact running benchmark for the first time usually gives wrong results (differing from average).
@ macko - yep that is true aswell, however running the benchmark is so time consuming, I dont think anyone would actually bother getting all those statistics

My loved wife says the same
have you tried spb benchmark?
First of all, despite of the memory benchmarks, the results are quite the same. So what basically changed is the speed of Flash-Rom access, where the internal memory got slower and the external (memory card) appearently faster.
Did you have installed the SD card tweak on the previous and/or new ROM. It was said to be the only tweak really significantly improve the speed at all.
I also think that the memory card speed subjectively is quite low with the old ROM. The question now is: What's more important, high internal memory speed or high memory card speed. I'd go for the first since most applications are stored in the internal memory but that depends.
Does it also occur with other types of the new ROM, I mean from other manufacturers or without branding. I read that they differ slightly, so that could have an influence too.

I would like to but there was no sense if I didn't previously tested with it. Can anybody post results obtained using spb benchmark? (before - after)

Hi Dandie,
the tweak was installed on both roms branded old/unbranded new,
on the branded rom the sd read and write was very faster after installing the sdcardtool
but
with the new rom the benchmark results are slower and much more with the tweak
i'm assuming updating the rom wipes the phone clean back to factory settings? i'd hate to have to reinstall everything?!
@ stats101: Right!

Ahm. what??? What I would like to see are benchmarks without the tweak, from both, old and new ROM. Did anyone try that?
Anyone with R2A can use SPB Benchmark please?
It's more accurated for a real use.
Then I post my result of R1A hardresetted.
Thx.

hi dandie,
the benchmark from old rom i remember, was a little bit lower than the new rom without tweak.
anyway, i don't thrust the benchmark and the tweaks, because the system feels a bit faster, with or without tweak, there's no different.
Benchmarks ? Here we go !

Me neither !
My feelings are the same as yours ... !
I upgraded to R2A a few days ago on my x1a, and I couldn't really notice any significant difference in speed between the two firmwares just from day to day use. However, when I loaded up the HTC youtube app, I found the new firmware to clearly have quite a lot of difficulty playing back clips at high quality with dropped frames, desynced audio, etc, whereas the same youtube clips would play flawlessly on my R1A Xperia. Also, I feel like video playback is more choppy in the Media panel, although Coreplayer playback is still the same as before. I have reflashed my x1a twice with the R2A firmware, and both times video playback performance suffered. Now I'm back to R1A and video is working fine. Does anyone else have this problem?
I recently setup apps2sd on my g1 with 1.5. I also use swapper and since I setup apps2sd, performance has been horrendous with or without swap on. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix? Is my card just too slow? I don't know what class it is. Thanks for the advice
if your card doesn't have a 6 on it....its too slow.
did you buy a new card other than the one the G1 came with?
My apps are a little slower to startup after apps2sd but I figure it's worth it to have 100 X's more capacity.
It's not the stock card and I'm assuming it's not a class 6. However, I went back to using stock home instead of openhome and performance increased dramatically. Apparently openhome uses too much memory and causes other apps to swap to the same card it pulls apps from.

I'm tired of repeating that SD classes are only a rating for minimum sustained write speed. Maximum speeds are usually significantly higher, and vary from card to card based on the size of the file written.
Right, but if you make one that qualifies as a class 6, you wouldn't write a 2 on it unless you're a moron and want to undervalue it.

Did you use the JF1.5 Lucid modded one? try not moving the data/cache to sd. That was the problem i was having. When i moved it over, it was verrrry sluggish.

Try DXtop instead of openhome.
yes, im using JF but i dont think I copied over any apps or cache. performance is slightly better since I upgraded and wiped but still doesn't feel like what it should be. maybe I will buy a new card

The new Dude build is pretty fast. Give it a try.
i'm just curious if there is a way or a guide on how to setup your phone to be the most efficient and fastest that it can offer?
what i'm really asking is there a tweakers guide to making the WILDFIRE run as smoothly as possible..
Also i'm wondering if there is a specific way to setup your sd card so that your phone could utilize some of the space on the card so that it could use it as ram at all so that the phone may respond a little faster.
Yes there are several ways...one of them is to change your wildfire for desire..
I am just fooling around...
I think you should look for cyogen rom or some ono that is faster that stock and overclock your processor and I thing thats the only way to improve performance significantly, all other ways are not much or not at all worth your atencion...and thats just my apinion.
There's very little you can do really, as stated above, and this is probably why there's no guide.
* Install an AOSP Based Custom ROM (Openfire or CM)
* OC your CPU
* Have as less background apps running as possible.
Not much else you can do.
As for using the SD Card as RAM, I am pretty sure its not possible. Besides, logically, the SD Card is way slower than Flash RAM, so, using it as a RAM device will actually cause the phone to slow down and lag.
thanks guys... been a big help.
Also one last thing..
i hear that there are different classes of sd card.. What card should i be looking at to upgrade to as i have a standard 2GB SD and wanted to know a little more about it ... any ideas please would be great
A Class 4 card should suffice. Anything above that doesn't give majorly noticeable results on the Wildfire.
Hello guys,
Our X8/W8 is a slow speed device and without proper memory management there would be many lags and unresponsiveness in our device. So to overcome these problems I have some tips and thought that I will share it with all you guys.
These are those tips that I know of and those that I believe will actually speed up your phone and some tips here will also allow you to conserve some battery life too.So here we go:
Dont use too many apps.Delete all unused apps.
Dont use more than 2 launchers in the same device. It will cause a lot of RAM loss.
When selecting your default launcher try to select a launcher that is small in size so that it will ony take up a small amount of RAM.
To reduce HomeScreen Redrawing check the "Keep Home In Memory" app found in almost all Custom ROMs.This will reduce the time taken for your HomeScreen to fully load up after you exit an app.
Dont Undervolt the CPU if you find that your Phone is becoming too slow.
When selecting a rom make sure that your ROM is lightweight(small in size). The Custom ROM runs in the RAM of our device and when the Custom Rom is small in size then it will take up only a small amount of RAM and you will have more free RAM.
Odexed ROMs should technically speed up your Phone but the difference will be only minor.
If your manufacturing date is 11W29 or below then it would be good to unlock the Bootloader and flash a Custom Kernel. If the Custom Kernel is a good one then we can notice a change in our Phone's speed.
Remove all bloatware from the Custom Rom.
Reduce the use of Live Wallpapers.
Turn off 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Data Services etc when they are not in use. This speeds up your Rom and also conserves your Battery.
Overclocking should be done ONLY when needed so bad. What it does is that it supplies more power than needed to you CPU and tries to increase its clock speed. This may speed up you phone but it also OVERHEATS the CPU and as a long term effect it may destroy your CPU.So you will have to buy a new phone!
Its better to have a darker theme than a lighter one.Darker themes conserves the Battery and also speed up your device a bit.
Dont use a Third Party Task Killer app. Android will manage it memory by itself.
After Rebooting or Turning on the device wait for a 1-2 minutes even after the screen is fully loaded. This allows the ROM to settle and you can use it more efficiently afterwards.
Use of V6 Supercharger by Zepplinrox,The Adrenaline Engine etc has to be considered over Overclocking as overclocking will ultimately damage the CPU.
This list of tips will be constantly updating. If you have any tips that you use to speed up your phone please post it here and I will add it to this list.
Click THANKS if this helped!!
Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Have somebody seen bricked x8 by overclock? I don't think so. I'm using my phone with maximum oc my phone can run. 245/787mhz for about year (since I have bought it) and it is still working great without any issues.
Sorry for my English.

In all my life I have never heard this before.I dont think Android will kill the SystemUI. It is like killing itself, and that is NOTlikely to happen. The "Lock Home In Memory" doesnt make your launcher indestructible! It just make it a little more difficult to kill but yet "kill-able".It will kill the launcher only when a lot of other unwanted apps have been killed. That option just gives the launcher a little more priority.

When you overclock have you ever touched the phone's back???
Well you can see that its hotter than usual. This means that more amount of power goes into the CPU.
For example, You take the case of a LED.When you give it the right amount of power it lights up very well, but what happens when you give it a lot more power than needed??It will overheat and eventually get destroyed.Thats the same thing that will happen here.Overclocking may not explode your CPU but if you have overclocked for a long time and then switch to normal then you can see that the CPU is now less efficient than it was before overclocking.
Cheers
Leon
last mini cm10 nightly + nAa .32 v4 its pretty fast but when I add Seeder app it seems to be a lot of faster.
App is reduced some lags so maybe it's only illusion
By doing implementing these tips you can get a better speed without much effort. But surely these tips wont make your phone an Xperia Z but you can surely notice some effects.
Swapper 2
Does using swapper 2 or a similar application help ?
I personally wont recommend Swaping. It will reduce our SDcard life. And we need to use a very high quality SD card which is very costly and and you will have a reduced life span of SD card too. But if you can afford buying a High Quality Class SD card once in a while then its OK.

My understanding is that while speed increases for your sdcard, more battery is used for the operation. While this was a good idea for phones moving data back and forth due to storage constraints and processor speed, on our tablets it may not make much difference because of the amount of memory we have, and the quad core processor.
