Is there a problem with them.
Do they need to be unlocked.

Put it this way, you won't get a BUST one for under 140 quid (and i'm NOT including the marked up postage costs). Without a box in good working condtion, £300. Boxed & Mint, >£400, so go figure at 70E.
I got mine Bust for £80 - dozy tosser mislisted it - ha my bargain. 1/2 hour later fixed the damn thing. Friggin mint condition t'boot.
BTW, I'll bet my bottom dorrar that the seller is Chinese....
And I'll place another bet, I bet the listing will won't last long....

It is probably a scammer selling these 'items' under someone elses account.
I got mine on Ebay for 420 pounds. I'm in australia and you'd be lucky to get it for 600 pounds here. works like a charm. of course AFTER i upgraded with the JasJar ROM and burnt O2's software
I bought one on eBay for GBP 414, but the seller reneged -- he said he could not get the phone from his supplier. I quoted him eBay policy on selling items that are not already in possession of the seller. He was apologetic, and said this is the first time it's happened (his feedback shows previous Universal sales which were successful). He has a 99.7% feedback rating, with 358 positives and 1 negative from long ago. He said he's going to refund me, but has to wait for a bank transfer to clear PayPal, since he already transfered the money out of PayPal. Sounds suspicious. But I have PayPal buyer protection (for what it's worth), and I used my credit card. I will give him time, and if he still doesn't refund, I'll go through the non-selling seller process.
So I bought from a different seller for GBP 431, and I am waiting for it.
So many of these Universal auctions say "opened only to inspect" or "opened only to test", that it sounds suspicious.
Also, many of them say "unwanted upgrade", as if they were mailed a free phone and just want to get rid of it. Does O2 mail free Universals as upgrades?
Don't buy Universals on eBay unless the seller has 99+% feedback > 100, and the auction is covered under the "Free PayPal Buyer Protection". Look at their feedbacks, and what they bought/sold earlier. Pay with PayPal, and use a credit card as the funding source.
'free' at £75/month, min term 18months.
So if you consider £1400 free, then yes, they're 'free'.
Anyway, rules of ebay are:
1) It's a sellers market
2) Don't be greedy or you'll get a deserved bite in the ass
3) Supply & demand rules the roost.
4) research research research
5) READ FEEDBACKS & APPLY A BIT OF NOUNCE!!!
Hunt around for mislisted items - takes time but jeeeez the bargains I've scooped! Hence:
6) You put the effort in, you get the rewards out.

IMO neither of those are suspisious. It means i have a better chance of getting a working unit. And just because someone got a free upgrade and does not state it does not make the listing any more legit.
I sold a spare XDA Exec on ebay which i acttually got as a cheap upgrade but not free. My wife prefers her existing phone. I knew it had a good chance of going out of the UK so for me to not check it would be madness. I wanted to list it as Sim Free i could not do that without physically checking. Plus i could not list it as working if i did not know that fior sure.

Yes this does happen a lot. O2 want to keep your business so at the end of your contract you are eligble for an upgrade to tie you up again for 12 or 18 months. They look at your history and if you have spent a lot of money with them on calls you get lots of offers. The more you have spent the better the offers. A lot of people are happy with there existing phone but know they could make a lot of money selling the new one.

Yes this is another bad problem with ebay. You have the option to remove bidders and to cancel the auction early to the highest bidder. You can only do this up until 12hrs before the auction ends. When i sold mine i waited to just before the 12hrs deadline and accepted the highest bidder i considered genuine based on their location and feedback that had an agreeable price for me. I was not out to make as much as i could get but just a fair price.
This worked well for me.

I always offer refunds on DOA equipment. Be sure to write down the serial number and put it in the auction, or someone might trade their defective unit for yours.

You're missing out on the sniper bids by ending early, but as you say, you weren't out to make as much as you can get.

I got my Vodafone V1640 for 330 GBP on eBay.
The seller accepted PayPal but anyway I spent a few days worried about not getting the phone.
It took 4-5 days till I received it.
Unfortunately it is locked to Vodafone UK and I want to use it with Vodafone Portugal.
No luck till now for the unlock code...

I have over 900 + feedback on ebay and I always buy from those who have Buyer protection if its over £100. Bought my exec back in dec/jan this year from a guy who had 2 for sale for £385. The first had a screen calibration problem as if it'd been dropped. Sent him an email and he promptly sent me his other one just as soon as I sent him the first back. Since then absolutely no problems.
Also I always mention when selling that any1 with less than 5 + feedback will have their bids removed. I make sure I'm logged in for the last minutes of the auction in case I get sum1 with less then 5 feedback messing around. And I sure have had to cancel a few bids in the last few minutes. HTH

if new, then look for descriptions that say the phone is sealed in box, if its just new in box but not sealed then it could've been used and just repackaged to look like new
if used then always look for actual pictures of the phone in the posting, make sure you read what condition the phone is in (scratches or anything) and how long it was used for
the phone should run you anywhere from 350-450

That is excellent advice to minimize buyer's risk, which is why phones in that state command a higher price than just "mint" phones in excellent condition. (Like a new car depreciates immediately when you drive it away from the dealer.)
Also, note that eBay has a Buyer Protection Program to help resolve disputes, and it is in eBay's own interest to guard the integrity of its marketplace. That does not mean they guarantee your satisfaction or even that the phone will function properly. But eBay will guarantee that the merchandise shipped meets the seller's advertised description, and "New, Sealed in Box" is an objective standard.
As a buyer I once bought such an advertised phone that did not fit that description as-delivered, and the seller was not cooperative in resolving the problem. So I had to escalate the issue to eBay, which found in my favor and saw to it that my money was refunded when I returned the merchandise. Actually, that's the closest I ever came to being burned on eBay. I think it is less risky than buying from a Craigslist seller.
I paid 350 for a 2 weeks old one (barely used) with the original box & accesories, all in perfect condition. What a sweet deal!
Check the seller's rep. I wouldn't but from anyone with fewer than 40 sales and a 98% pos rep.

I really don't want to scare you off ebay, however, with a purchase like this, I would do my ebay research very carefull.
You need to know the truth, the truth is, if you run into a problem, you will have tons of difficulty contacting ebay via phone.
I ask you to do 1 simple thing for me, just 1. Try to find an ebay phone number, search their site, search google, try to find a phone number to talk to a human being. Now, if you are able to find a phone number, call the number, see if you can get through to a human being. It took me almost 3 weeks to find a phone number, I litterly called about 20 numbers all of which were fake, old, no longer active, or put me through loops.
Finally, if you do have a problem, such as you paid for the product and didn't get the item, be ready for another saga that can last a very long time.
I've had a case open with ebay for nearly two months, supposedly ebay had decided in my favor, and I was due a full refund. Guess what, ebay never issued me a refund, the case still says open, 2 months now, no refund.
I would procede with caution, and only use paypal.
But, I beg of you, take my little challenge, try to find an Ebay phone number from their site, then if you eventually find one, see if you can get someone to pick up on the other end.

Always pay with PayPal. Any disputes with the seller, PayPal will back you up. They have a buyers protection program. Look it up on their website. By the way, you dont need a Credit Card to use PayPal, you can link it to your bank account if you prefer to pay cash.

always pay with a credit card (not visa debit) and using paypal.
Paypal are very quick to deal with fraud/issues and very favorable to the buyer usually (I know, I sell and buy a lot ! ).
Paypal are good if you use a credit card because they are afraid of chargebacks.
Buy from sellers you trust. A good thing to do is simply ask the seller before you buy! They are human too....and if they seem legit (good reason for selling, give you an accurate description of the phone), by all means buy!

I've purchased 2 Vibrants and a HTC HD2 from Craigslist.
All three were in next to new conditions and I'm very happy with my purchases. I was able to inspect the phones BEFORE putting up my money. I also require the seller to sign a receipt and provide ID before making the purchase. Can't be too careful in todays world.
I paid $300 each for the Vibrants and $250 for the HD2.
verify that the phone is not stolen. Request the IMEI number from the seller and call T-mobile up to check if the device was ever reported as stolen. I think there is also a website where you can check the IMEI # for its validity....not sure how accurate that is though

Definitely seems legit. I thought the vibrant only had 2gb built in and 16gb on card.....should clarify that.
The price is a bit steep for a used vibrant with no box. I'd watch it but keep looking around at the same time.

I usually assume new w/o box is stolen or just a used phone they're trying to pass off as new.
I sold a phone on Ebay to somebody in Cyprus.
The buyer claims he never received it and filed a claim, I lost 300 bucks and a mint HD2.
I found out the buyer now sold a similar phone on Ebay too, approx 3 or 4 weeks after I shipped mine. I was able to get my IMEI number from T-Mobile (very helpful, I was impressed).
Can I find out where my phone is ?

Kinda sounds like they pulled a fast one on you and actually got the phone then sold it but told you they did not get the phone. Could T-Mobile not track it with the IMEI? Did you tell tmo to block the imei too while you were on with them? That's about all you can do, since its involving separate countries.the main prob with that is most countries have their own blacklists, so it may not do anything, but with a hint of luck the buyer gets it blocked and complains. You don't get it back but at least the seller loses out and gets a dodgy seller review.

TMobile cannot block it since it is not their phone anymore, I already asked, I have to file a Police Report.
I mailed it Priority with tracking, but it stops at when it leaves the USA, no tracking to Cyprus. Insurance was declined since USPS does not publicize well they don't have insurance for some countries, and guess what....Cyprus is one of them.
If the guy that bought the phone from by buyer/thief has actually my phone, I feel sorry for him too, he'll get a surprise very soon since the IMEI will be reported as stolen, and he'll get scammed.
Blimey, I think I'd go into the theft business too,, no proof of delivery?? Its a wonder anyone sends anything there at all!

Yeah it sounds like the person that bought/stole the HD2 knew of the no tracking and knew they could get away with it. That sucks that a world wide company like USPS can not do anything else for you. I think you should press the matter with USPS myself.

USPS cannot do anything since there is no tracking and no insurance, I already went this route.
My only alternative, now that I have an IMEI is to file a theft report with the police dept. here then I can open a case with FBI and IC3 which are federal agencies working on international frauds.
I won't see my money back, but at least the phone will be listed as stolen, IMEI on blacklist, and will never be able to be registered.
I just feel sorry for whoever bought the phone from my buyer/thief

Shame those blacklists aren't global, if it goes outside of Europe/us it will probably work. Most stolen phones end up in Africa or the middle/far east where they couldn't care less.
As for the new buyer, did you email him to let him know to check the imei? (I already pointed him in the direction of this thread, fingers crossed it will black list and he'll complain about the seller.)
Next time be sure to inform the buyer that there is no insurance offered and no refunds. I've sold an hd2 to a similar place where insurance wasn't offered and made sure to tell him this.
It's not your fault if it gets lost in the mail. You sent it.
Also, if they didn't like it. You could have easily sold it to someone else.

Apparently this guy does not know what the law is. Guess what, after I posted this thread on XDA he contacted me begging to remove, and claimed the fact that he "forgot" the claim, and he was "away" for a while.
He doesn't understand he broke the law and he should be punished. Try to rob a bank then when the cops find you return the money and say I'm sorry, you still go to jail. This is exactly what he did.
He refunded the money to me after making him reverse the neg feedback he left on Ebay, but then I found out he uses different IDs, probably to avoid consequences.
To all out there be careful if you buy anything from gericy

This supposedly saves u time and potentially some money (in case Samsung would not accept your phone or refuse to honor your warranty after you sent the phone to them)
So, everything started in this thread. Details have been discussed in that thread. So if you are interested, please read about the discussions in that thread. This thread here serves the purpose of a better way to find and inform U.S. owners who suffered SDS on their N7100, in order to get the group repair set up quicker.

Benefits/Price
Basically, the discounted price breaks down as follows. Note that the "refund deduction" is the amount that the repairer will charge in case of a repair failure. The eMMC costs about $80, so if the seller fails to fully recover the phone, their policy is to refund the labor cost but retain their costs of ordering these eMMC chips. They told me that the success rate should be greater than or equal to 85%. It is just an estimate because they have not seen as many SDS cases on Note II as they've seen on the GS3.
Group of - Price - Refund Deduction (in case of unsuccessful repair)
1 person - $150 -$80
5 persons - $135 - $15
10 persons - $130 - $15
20 persons - $125 - $15
So, as you can see, the major benefit is not BIG discounts, but the less sunk costs in case the repair is not successful.

Or, I was thinking about having the company issue x coupons, with each one sent individually to each one of us, so we won't worry about someone using coupon more than once (e.g., giving the code to a friend that you found to also have SDS on his/her phone)
The rest of the payment details is just normal check out through their website. We can proceed individually once we have the coupons.
Repair Time
I did not ask about this but the guy I talked to on the phone reminded me of the repair time. I was told that it should take around 8 business days to get the phone back, which is essentially 2 weeks considering the shipping/handling. They are located in Texas so you can figure out how long it usually takes for the shipping.

Sorry for the unprofessional wording in the disclaimer section. I have not done this (initiator) ever in my life. This is also the first phone that I ever need to pay to get it repaired. So my lack of experience should be expected :fingers-crossed: Please don't hesitate to correct any misinformation in the thread by letting me know. I provided the best information I have from the repairer. And if you want, definitely feel free to contact them and verify that I have the facts put down correctly. I will also inform the repairer of this thread so they might chime in and answer some questions maybe. They were a little hesitant about this because they do not want to be deemed to be advertising without permission.
Lastly, feel free to ask any question or concern you may have. I'll try my best to answer.

I'm somewhat on the fence (frustrated that a brand new phone that should have a Samsung warranty is not being covered since Samsung US basically says these are not their phones and treats Samsung UK/etc as a separate company). However, if we can get to 5 people (and I would vote not to wait for ten, since the additional discount/savings on EMMC refund is small) then I'll probably do it.
Ye, me too. I don't want to wait. And I'll see. If in 1-2 weeks we do not make it five, i'd have to bite the bullet and get it repaired on my own. I'm leaving U.S. mid May. Definitely need to sell it before I leave.

Let me get this straight. You, the US citizens are not able to get your malfunctioning Note IIs repaired which you bought legally?
Samsung US does not service GT-N7100, in warranty or not.
So if you are in the US you have to either pay someone else to fix it or send it to the country it was made in (since GT-N7100 was not made/sold in US directly by Samsung).
Hence the problem.

I am still interested in the group repair, but if there aren't enough people I understand that we may need to just take care of these on our own. I guess we are really quite in the minority with this issue.
It seems like you still have the initial three interested. I know they want 5, but maybe you can negotiate at least a smaller refund deduction, somewhere between 80 and 15 for three of us? Right now the price is $80 for attempting the repair and another $70 if they actually fix it. If we can make it more like $50 for attempting the repair and another $100 if they actually fix it .. at least won't feel so stupid to throw another $80 down the rabbit hole...
(I know the actual way it works is you pay $150 and get X amount back)
To the last poster, I'm willing to work out a smaller deductible in the event a device can't be repaired if your time frame won't permit for 5 persons. The idea behind the deductible is I literally spend about $85.00 per chip whether I am successful or not. eMMC densities are difficult to source and extremely expensive as they are CLASS 100 and higher in terms of transfer speed which is why the pricing structure is nowhere near what you would pay for the highest class SD-CARD available. If you have any questions you can contact us via phone. That number can be found on our FAQ page. Due to XDA restrictions I won't post that here but someone else can if they would like. I am not able to monitor my XDA Inbox as I once had more time for so it's best to contact us via phone or email for fastest repsonse.

Anyway, @nochancenine @pitflyer what do you guys think? If any of you wanna call Josh and talk about lower deductibles for only three of us in the group? I know it'd be nice to have like 50+ people doing a gigantic group repair and get some crazy discount with maybe no deductible at all lol, but it looks like we may be waiting for weeks or even months ahead just to make it to 5 people. So, I am very positive in proceeding with only 3 of us and this thread will then become the reference for other people in the future that might need this service. What do you think? I have an exam tomorrow and a project due, so I don't have much time tomorrow to call them up. If any of you could call and talk about the details, I think we might be able to actually get the process started.

Thanks Josh for posting that you're willing to work with us. I'm not in as much of a time crunch as the OP so I'd like to see if we can get the '5' to get to the negotiated level of discount / non fixable deduction. I will try to call and see what I can work out with only 3 people but not sure when I'll get to it either.
Of course, two lurkers could make this much easier for us if they just sign up for the group repair... I posted this thread on FatWallet where I know there was at least one other poster that had the same issue, so maybe s/he or someone else will make this decision easy.

I just called Josh and was told that with 4 people we get $140 for the repair, and the deductible is the same as if we had 5 people, i.e., $15 each. He also said that he had not failed on one of these phones yet as he had more units repaired in the past couple weeks.
So what do you think? I have to send it out on Monday at least, so I want to see if you guys are willing to do 4 people on Monday.

So I'm in the UK and i bought it on eBay, brand new in July from a seller in Sweden, it's been great but noticed yesterday that something internally has come loose and is moving about (maybe a camera component as it's in the top half)
The seller is giving me the silent treatment so far but i wondered if i would be returning it to them or direct to Oneplus? and where?

You'll still be covered by Paypal, so get a claim in ASAP. Also, the IN2020 model is the Chinese variant, so won't be covered by warranty in the UK.
Yes this is what i thought regarding the CH variant, just went through the repair steps on UK oneplus site and looked like it was going to let me return it? didn't complete though as i haven't got a temp phone yet.
A PP claim would involve a full refund tho and i'm not sure i need to do that? Could maybe save some quids though as the 8pro is £70 cheaper now

PayPal will only cover a SNAD (Significantly Not As Described) claim if the fault was already there when the item was first received. It is not a warranty.
In this case the problem developed only a few days ago.

Go PayPal buddy, UK will return it I would have thought, they won't have parts, my OnePlus 5 went to Czech Republic when RMA'd.

Afaik theres a 6 month fair usage policy globally for goods bought.. Not sure if they have to adhere to this but I'd have thought so.
You don't expect things to go wrong that soon. So you should have a case.

There are only two valid scenarios for claiming through PayPal - Item Not Received (INR) or Significantly Not As Described (SNAD). Neither of these are true in this case (the phone was received, and was working when it was received), so there is no valid claim against PayPal.
Had the phone been bought from a UK-based seller, then the contract would have been with that seller and they would have been responsible for repair or replacement. I have no idea what the situation is in Sweden, but they may have similar legislation.
The OP may be lucky, and OnePlus UK might repair/replace (although there's no legal obligation on them to do so), but if not then any responsibility sits with the (Swedish) seller of the phone.

Don't think so... pretty sure mine never had anything moving in it? Can some other 8 Pro owners give there's a shake and confirm it doesn't resemble a baby rattle please

I have dropped mine a few times while in a decent case so no signs at all from drop damage but maybe this is what dislodged it? They are prob originally held in place with double-sided sticky tape like a lot of components in phones... Whack!!

You are buying a phone from a Seller. All that PayPal are doing in that transaction is acting as the payment processor. As part of their service, they offer protection to the Buyer against (1) Item Not Received (you pay for the phone and nothing arrives) or (2) the item being Significantly Not As Described (you receive a phone with a broken screen, or you pay for an 8 Pro and you receive an 8, or even an empty box).
They do not offer a warranty - if the item arrives, and it is as described, then PayPal's liability ends at that point.
Any warranty issues (i.e. the phone having problems some time after arriving) are the liability of the Seller and have nothing to do with PayPal. (In some cases the manufacturer will offer an additional warranty and will repair an item directly, but that's a goodwill offer on their part, not a legal obligation).
The complications in this particular case are that (1) the Buyer is in the UK and the Seller is in Sweden, (2) the Seller is not being responsive, and (3) the Buyer has admitted to having dropped the phone a number of times.

fair enough, tbh i've had my fair share of crap as a seller with paypal, they're not the best customer service i've ever had lets put it that way.
Anyway, i think he'll get it sorted via RMA in the uk tbh, i think it'll work.
Or it'll be too late by the time they've fixed it.
Ok, so is dropping it from say 1 to 2 foot is not part general use? Obviously I'm not going to declare this so really it shouldn't be an issue.
I agree that Paypal don't really have a part of this, but if they offer reimbursement/guarantee on this sort of thing then yes i will take them up on that but I'm not going to push it.
