[Q] Cyandogen 7/ 2.2.3 mytouch 4g??? - Android Software Development

Now that i am a proud owner of a rooted mytouch 4g, the possibilities are endless.
There are a few things i wish to know though
1: I have Gingerbread 2.2.3 on the phone, but theres no mail, message, and other widgets that i liked when i had the stock rom, does anybody know where i get those widgest?
2: After loading up my contacts from my SD, i get a lot of multiples, and there no way for me to delete them. I would have to delete them one by one and its annoying, is there a way around that?
3. Say if i wanted to go back to the stock rom, but still keep S=off, is that still possible even with CM7? Even if i wanted to use the Desire S Rom can i still do so?
4. What are the best ROMS for CM7, i know due to the fact that its a new update, but what is the best one out there and its stable
For now thats all I can think of atmm, Thank you all again =]

Ok,
1) this should belong in the MT4G Q&A forum not general software development..
2) gingerbread is 2.3 not 2.2 that's froyo
3) I'm sure there's a utility on the market for multiple contacts
4) yes you can switch between roms but make sure you have clockwork mod 3.0.2.4 or 3.0.0.6 so you dont run into any issues with partition support.
5) CM7 is a ROM you do not flash ontop of CM7, you replace it. Which is why when you flash a Rom you must wipe data and cache most of the time unless updating to the newer version of the same Rom.

Questions about MyTouch 3g Rooting.

Hey guys, I'm completely new to rooting phones, never done it before, and I want to try it out.
I have a T-Mobile MyTouch 3g, and I am going to root it with the flashrec.apk method. Here are my questions.
1. Is there a possibility that this will completely mess up my phone to where it will not work anymore?
2. Once it has been rooted, is there any way to get the regular Android 1.6 ROM onto it?
3. What exactly are the benefits of rooting? (Is it faster? Better?)
4. What is the best ROM for a MyTouch 3g?
5. Will all the apps and widgets that I already have on my MyTouch still work after I have loaded another ROM onto it?
6. Is it necessary to wipe my phone before I root it?
Thanks!
you don't need to wipe before you root, I use Cyanogen 4o4 until the next stable release comes out, which is 1.5, apps and widgets depend on what ROM you use but most will probly work fine. just go through the rom sections and pick one you like search in the sapphire or dream forum. make sure is for your 32a or b. all your other questions in the dream forum, there are tons of threads with all those answers. the MT3G is pretty much a G1 without the keyboard. pm me if you still can't find answers.

1. All of above is already answered
2. You find the search in the topmenu
3. Use the search before asking question
4. Don't expect people to waste any time on someone who don't even use just a little bit of time themself
5. If you don't find what you need when you try to search, search some more
6. At least you put it in the right category

[Q] Clcokwork Recovery Help

I rooted my phone successfully and installed clockwork recovery ROM manager 3.0.0.5, and have been running gingerbread since, However I miss Sense UI sometimes.
Now I am trying to go back to carrier 2.2.1 (stock tmobile mytouch 4g) , but am having no luck finding the correct ROM. All I have seen on the internet is the pre OTA rom 2.2 , but I wanna go back to 2.2.1 (just the way I got it, because I fear that I won't get the OTA to 2.2.1 because of the 3rd party ROM Manager) .
So here is a breakdown :
This is what I am looking for
A 2.2.1 tmobile mytouch 4g ROM
I understand that flashing this Rom will un-root the phone.
Here is something I have confusion about (which was largely cleared by article "[MOD] EZ Clockwork 3.0.0.6 Install>>Newest CwM Recovery and Stock Recovery included")
Will I be able to get Tmobile's OTA upgrade when gingerbread 2.3 comes out ? even with the 3rd party rom manager installed, is there a way to go back to the original tmobile rom manager, I should have done my research in the beginning, I do not even know what it is called?
Please help
Well first of all I have to ask why do you want to go back to stock? Are you aware of Ice Glacier? Its clean stable and runs better out of the box.
Now if you want Ice Glacier then go down to Dev section and download v1.1.6 and give it a try. Taking it that you didn't use it but if you have and you would still like to go back to stock then go to Dev section and find the stock PD15IMG as it will revert you back to stock rom and radio along will disable s-off. As I am on MT4G I can't link it but the thread is by football just go to the end page and download it from the link I posted which can be found on Phatless's sig. Keep in mind it's same thing but the link posted in OP is unstable as it takes forever to download.
If you don't know how to use it then ill tell you anyways just download the PD15IMG.zip and put it in root of your SDCard and then go in to bootloader and follow the screen, keep in mind this is not done though recovery.

Did you do a nandroid backup of your phone prior to flashing CM7?
If you did you can flash the 3.0.0.6 Recovery image or use True_Blues .ZIP
If you did just flash back to the supplied ROM when u bought the phone.
With recovery 3.0.0.6 you can flash back to your stock sense ROM and keep the rooted end of things.
If you do go back to 100% stock and flash the PD15IMG you will go back to 100% stock in every way fit form and function. And yes you will get T-Mobiles 2.3 update when and if they decided to come out with it.
Even if you do keep root access T-Mobile will try to push the new OS to your phone. but i would HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest either going back to stock prior to accepting the OTA. Or keep your Root status and use a variant of their ROM.

No Sir, I do not know what this is , the only thing I have tried so far is CM7, I would love to try Ice Glacier today.
Is it Gingerbread or is it Froyo ? Does it work with clockwork recovery Mod 3.0.0.6 ?
Thank you
(*meanwhile off to find what Iced Glacier is)
neidlinger,
thank you for the reply, I think I understand this better now.
blackshelf,
" keep in mind this is not done though recovery"
Thank you for this information, I will keep this in mind if I want to go to stock mytouch 4g after trying Iced Glacier.
Will let you know soon.
blackshelf,
does it matter what ROM I am on while flashing Iced Glacier?
Thank you much.

Iced Glacier is 2.2.1 (FroYo) based ROM that based off the OE from T-Mobile. Personally i am a AOSP fan. Regardless of 2.2 or 2.3, and do not like the bloat that comes with Sense.... .But i've heard alot of GOOD reviews regarding I/G. I'd recommend flashing the 3.0.0.6 then giving it a run.
Sorry was away but to add to what neidlinger said as he covered most of it. IG is based on stock but with few things added and removed thus balancing stability and performance. I think you will enjoy it also it has built in OC kernel (Gorilla v0.5 @ 1.7ghz). And no it does not matter what rom you had installed but I highly recommend you do full total wipe and then flash the rom via newest CWM so you can swtich between 2.X and 3.X based roms.

Thank you! I am done flashing and now it is stuck in the ANDROID screen with the light at the bottom going left to right.... is this normal for it to hang on for so liong its been about 2 minutes?
Oops I am so impateint, but I am a noob and it freaking scres me because I have read about "bricked phones too many times", but now I am in and am setting up the phone. Looks like Iced Glacier will do just fine for me, I think I am however going to miss the android 2.3's battery life (vanilla install CM7) .. and surprisingly I also miss the gingerbread keyboard already, I am ready to download it from the market.
Thank a bunch to both of you.
What is AOSP? do you mean vanilla Android?

AOSP = Android Open Source Project. It's as basic Android as one can get. Sense is nice. But i don't use Facebook or Twitter (anymore) so i have no need for the added bloat.
Lol believe it or not IG has the most and I do mean most stable and efficient power consumption than CM7 once you set it up correctly. Play with it and add things to it as most of the apps you can install on it as you had on CM7. Far as AOSP goes you been using it on CM7(ASOP2.3.2:GB) as neid said what it means.

I'd read through the thread for it, or search for specific keywords. Or post the same question there. can you log in to your google account?
Another thing.. what happends to the mod that was downloaded on the sd card when we flash it? does it get moved to the phone's internal storage and away from the card..?
This market issue is killing me
yeah, my contacts are synced via google, just the apps don't get downloaded.

Flashing a gingerbread ROM

Hi, I've had my vibrant for quite a while it's been rooted ever since day 1. However I just got got Clockwork Mod working on stock 2.2 KA6. I'm now ready to flash a 2.3or 2.3.4 ROM and I wanted to know how do I go about it. I not sure if I can just flash over the stock 2.2 or not. I also hope I wouldn't have to resort to ODIN, as every one of my last several experiences with it was not good at all. Someone please help me out!
Someone please help I just want instructions how I can upgrade from stock KA6 to a 2.3 or 2.3.4 ROM. I would like to be able to do this without ODIN.
Hey bud, I'm kinda new on this board and not a super geek, but I might be able to point you in the right direction.
First of all, there's not an official Gingerbread release, so if you want it, you'll want to jump over the Development board (just go up a level) and find a ROM that is in 2.3. I know that Cyanogen is, for example, and there are a couple more.
What I did was to use Clockwork to do a backup (called a nandroid backup) and then I downloaded Cyanogen and used Clockwork to flash it. Quite simple and it sounds like you're all set up and ready to go.
Be advised that on (I think all) the 2.3 builds, you will have to give up on GPS. I had Cyanogen briefly just so I could check out streaming Netflix, but I had a few glitchy things like Swype to fix and decided just to go back to my Bionix ROM.
Hope that helps! Use the Thanks button if it did.
You can now get GPS with GB roms. You can even get wifi calling. Follow the instructions for the rom you want. CM7 is very easy to install.

Its very simple. Since you have CWM (clockwork mod) now installed its easy peasy.
What you want to do is find a rom... personallt im using the nightly builds of CM7... You can find it by going to the android development section of our phone...
Find the rom then download the .zip file and place it somewhere on your internal sd card. Dont put it on your external sd.
Then go ahead and reboot into cwm and clear ur data/cache. After that go ahead and install zip, choose zip file from its location, then install.
Once installed, reboot and viola!
Most of all read the installation insrructions listed as well so you dont screw up. Worst comes to worst and your not sure then stop what your doing and ask here!!
Good luck my friend

Sweet! Really? Last time I put Cyanogen on my GPS was a no go. That was less than 2 weeks ago, but I will look into it again.
Peace

[Q] Upgrading back to Stock 2.3.4 while keeping S-Off and Rooted

Ok over the past 2 days I have searched over almost every single thread on the MY Touch 4g forums and can not seem to find a definite answer on this question:
Is there any way to take a rooted S-OFF, the Engineering HBoot & the ClockworkMod Recovery, 2.2.1 Stock build using the instructions on cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Glacier:_Full_Update_Guide and upgrade it back to the Stock t-mobile 2.3.4 build without unrooting etc?
I am not overly interested in installing cm7, although I did have a great experience with it on my t-mobile HD2 before the screen decided to stop working for the 2nd time. I actually did enjoy using the stock 2.3.4 build on the mt4g but would like to have more power over my phone (such as changing the hosts files to get rid of ads, remove bloatware apps I'm not interested in myself, etc).
All threads I have read more or less say once you downgrade, root and install clockwork recovery to install a rom of your choice, well I would like that rom to be the stock 2.3.4 build. Other threads state that in order to install the 2.3.4 build you need to install using the bootloader(which would unroot your phone) and not clockwork recovery.
If someone could please point me in the right direction to accomplish this goal you will seriously make my day/night/week/month.
If something is in the works that's great, I'm willing to wait it out. If this is a completely impossible goal so be it, I'll use CM7 mod.

flash via CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY.

[Q] Been away - what's my next move after Royal Ginger 1.6?

Hi guys,
I don't like when people post "how do I root my phone?" when you can search 100 threads to root your phone, so I was hesitant to post this, but I've been away a year or whatever it's been, and I see a whole bunch of new ROMS that are totally unfamiliar to me.
I chose Royal Ginger 1.6 (based on android 2.3.3) way back when (still have it) because I thought it was a stable, non-SENSE plain android ROM that was much faster than the sense that came with my mytough 4g. And I was right. I know it was updated to 2.0 and then the DEV stopped, or whatever the demise was.
I didn't update to 2.0 at the time since I have one of the "bad chips", so it wasn't compelling enough to risk something that was working fine.
I'm getting the itch again to update my phone - it's cheaper than getting a new 4.0 phone and a new contract and $$$. Figured if I slap jelly bean on this it'll make it feel like I got a free upgrade.
Mostly I'm after something that is solid and not something I'd look back and say "why didnt I just leave well-enough lone?" where I'd lose functionality in things I'm used to. (camera etc)
What's the new Royal Ginger nowadays? What's the no brainer ROM to flash when reliability and compatibility is concerned?
Should I go back to entertaining CM nightlies? It seems that some of the andoid v3 ROMS are stable, and what about andoid v4-- isnt that too much of a reach to make compatible with this aging glacier that we have? Not too buggy to use a jelly bean aopk 4.x.x on this?
Thanks for any input
If u wanna stay aosp wuth everything working I suggest cm7.2 stable or nightly that GB For ICS/JB I suggested AospX, or Dark Jellybelly or the port O.O all pretty stable with little to no bugs

if so, looks like plain android base of ICS, plus optimizations.
that sounds like what i need. still looking, but this is a good candidate.
funny, when you dont think of these things for a year, you get wobbly on the details.
i still have rom manager on my phone, with root and s=off, i'll have to read the talking points on how to update to make sure i do it right the 1st time...

I plan on building the milestone release tonight, so go ahead and take your time into getting back into things (unless you're eager to try BR7 ). I might be able to get it released tonight as well if everything goes right.

Thanks man. Read on another thread here you released the milestone or RC. I'll have to check it out.
question for you or anyone else reading this - maybe on that other thread I read about a guy who got into some boot loop trying to flash your rom I think the BR7 iteration, when he way trying to upgrade from royal ginger.
As I said that's the rom I have on there now, and so my brain brain froze a little while reading that.
Any people upgrading from Royal Ginger to this? Hey bootloop guy - did you ever get past your problem? (I think the responses to your post were to wipe again, reflash, etc etc, but I think you said you did that)
Thanks

He likely had an older version of clockwordmod (someone else had similar trouble on another ics/jb rom) so just make sure you update it if you haven't in a while. I'd also suggest using 4ext if you're not using it already as people on cwm seem to be having trouble using it with the OTA Updater. Also, it allows you to wipe everything you need to flash a rom with just one option.
I'm on royal ginger 1.6 from way last year, and am ready to flash your aospx mr1.
I have ROM manager 5.0.2.1 and with that I flashed CWM Recovery (it downloaded it over data network nice and fast), just 2 days ago, so it must be the latest.
So you're saying that 4ext may be less prone to error... If I go with that, where does that leave ROM Manager, it stays installed- there's no reason to uninstall it? And the CWM recovery? Does 4ext flash its recovery right over my existing CWM recovery?
