Why is it i can install a particular app using a custom rom yet the stock 2.1 rom for X8 always fails and returns a -17 error why would that be ?

Bump has anyone had this problem where an App doesnt work on the rom the phone comes with yet when you flash a custom rom it works?
I have tried it for 3 weeks and always get

I don't know what you're asking for
Flashed MDJ's CM7 and have that up and running so I'm guessing it's something with the ROM package I was trying to flash beforehand? Even though I have a ROM functioning now, I would still like to know what the problem/error I was getting means

Could it be your network provider problem?

ROM Manager 5.0.2 fail

anyone else finding the 5.0.2 Rom Manager failing when trying to back up?
says "error processing ROM Manager script"..
nothing like this with me... sorry mate

Open the market and look for ROM Manager, install it to get the latest version. That should fix any issues you might have.

4.4.0.7 is the newest version showing in my market, which is the version I have, but it says there's an update available when I open rom manager, anyone know how I can update it?
Unlocked oc'd alien atrix
Open ROM Manager and check the version on the app title, it should say "ROM Manager (Premium if you have it) v4.4.0.7".
If you are prompted to update, it's probably a CWM update, touch flash CWM button and let it do its thing.
thx everyone..still unsure as to what was the cause, but i completely wiped w/ fastboot and then reinstalled my backup thru cwm..after that rom manager functions normally. thx
I have/had the same issue. When I tried to backup from inside the gui it booted into recovery and failed. I just tried the manual mode and it is working fine.
I did try to apply an addition to the default date/time name of the recovery image, does anyone know if there is a file name length/characters/spaces restriction on the recovery image name?
Had the same problem. Only happens when I try to flash thru ROM manager tho. If I boot and hold volume down all is good.

I never thought I would be the person ignoring a system update but after 3 unsuccessful attempts at installing the latest iteration of Android its not looking good. There is an error message showing up after about 30 secs or so I just have to reboot in system recovery mode. Is there a solution in place to fix this problem without sending the device back. It seems to me there is some bug in the software, however since this happened my nexx has been flawless without one single glitch. Any ideas ...

You could probably get it to install by installing it via image (downloaded from Google) and adb (run from the Android SDK), as opposed to using the over-the-air update from Google.
The method of doing it that way that I am familiar with will erase everything. But I think you can still do it that way and not erase everything... if you are interested and want to attempt either just say so.
Are you temp unrooting it?

Most likely there is something on your tablet that is not stock so the update is failing. Could be that your bootloader is unlocked, maybe you are rooted, maybe you have a custom recovery, or remnants of a custom kernel on the device. Do you have to do the update? Why not simply install a new version of a custom ROM that is running Android 4.2.2?
Maybe I am missing something, as I see a lot of people doing an official update and then going on to custom things again. I just think it is way too much of a hassle and doesnt gain anything. I have never once done an official update once I was running a custom ROM, I simply install the new ROM version that runs the latest Android. Simple as that and never had a problem.

You should post this on the Google Rom forum. But as for the problem, you might have just gotten a bad download. Try to re download it.
