Android billing via your Sprint bill - EVO 4G General

http://www.androidcentral.com/sprin...mpaign=Feed:+androidcentral+(Android+Central)

finally!
not that i dont trust using the credit card, but would prefer to go through my bill

I'm not to fond of this billing to Sprint thing, I feel safer using Google Check out because at least i know i wont have to deal with sprint if i need a refund or something goes wrong. But its still a good idea for people that don't have Google checkout or a electronic payment method

Yes that is very true, its good to have alternative payment methods

LOLando
personally i would rather purchase apps using this method

At first I thought this was a really good idea. After thinking about it more, if your phone is hacked, having to deal with charges through Google checkout offers a layer of separation from my phone bill.

And once again, I've had to clean another thread out. If you have nothing useful to contribute to the thread, please don't bother posting anything.

"I didn't download that! I want a refund!" is all I can think of, buy it's great for people without CCs.

I'm sure a lot of parents won't be happy if their kids are buying apps and then surprise a $200 higher phone bill.

And is there no way to disable this on the account at all?
There has to be a way to disable / lock the billing to - erm - the bill .... right?

 do we have a class action lawsuit??

just got off the phone with Sprints Advance Tech support.
i was asking them how to uninstall the Amazon MP3 app.
the answer came back NO. even if they did a hard reboot its in the hardware and Sprint can not do nothing about it.
here's the set up. i don't listen to music and have only turned on the app MYSELF twice. once to see what its about and the other to see if i could uninstall it.
this program also turns itself on a lot AND I DON"T want it to do this.
NEXT
in the setting under the Applications i saw that it was collecting and keeping DATA. so i erased the info and to my surprise when i called Sprint and looked at the Data it had recorded 20Kbs of info. the only thing i did was use the phone. Does Any One know what kind of data it is collecting. my fear is it is keeping data on my phone calls?
Sprint could not answer that question and i waited inline for 15 min on the HTC tech line before i could not wait any longer.
i also found when the battery runs down the battery info will pop up. in there i looked through a few things and found some apps running even after i turned them off. i selected the Amazon link and i seen that i could uninstall from there. i selected uninstall and it said i could not uninstall the app.
my feeling is HTC gives me no choice in uninstalling a BUILT in APP that is collecting DATA on me is not in my best interest. i will be calling my lawyer monday - but i am seeking your help in understanding what kind of data is amazon collecting. TIA
hahahahahahhaha
they're probably recording all your phone calls...just my 2 cents
Sorry to hear about your idiocy. Hopefully it gets better soon.

Paranoid much? If don't like it root it. If you don't want to root it, then buy something else. Calling a lawyer because of an app is ridiculous, all they are collecting is information whether you are logged into the Amazon store. Every smart phone on the market has some application you can't uninstall, you gonna go sue everyone? Seriously

lets see - did you read the part that i wiped out the DATA and only made a phone call and then checked the DATA and it collected 20Kbs?
get the crap out of your ears I WAS NOT ON AMAZON AND DID NOT TURN ON THE APP.
you also did not add to anything here as to what amazon is collecting.
funny thing about rooting - that was what the Sprint Adv Tech manger said to do. but he also said it makes my phone void for repairs.
can you answer if your phone is rooted - does the app still collect data?

Do you download any application from the market, or is your phone running only pre-installed apps? That won't make a difference since almost every app warns you of collecting data. Rooting is not going to solve the problem.

the app is built INTO the HARDWARE from HTC. thus not giving the option to accept the agreement.
So what do you think happens when you sign in with your Google account? It specifically states that data collection will happen no matter what. Now I know your talking about Amazon, but seriously...the paranoia isn't going to help much.
Calling sprint's customer service line and demanding to know what data was being collected was your biggest mistake. Sad to say, but the people here know more then the CS reps do.
Why not contact Amazon or do a search online on what is collected with applications? Either way thanks for the laugh, hope your response isn't to brutal!
on a serious note, if you lived in the EU you might have a chance. They're against OEMs making you have to use stuff, look at MS and the IE choice thing.
but when you say the app is built into the hardware you obviously have no clue as to what you're talking about. Since a.) the app can be removed with SU permissions (rooted phone) and b.) that sentance is just incredibly LOLable.
Ok, I'll answer your question. You do not have a class action lawsuit. Although I recommend you call your lawyer just to let us know how hard he laughs at you.
Second if you cleared your data and then made a phone call, and the data jumped up to 20kb, do you really think it has collected any relevant data? A little common sense is in order here. Most likely the data it captured is:
SERVICE STARTED
SERVICE RUNNING
SERVICE RUNNING
SERVICE STILL RUNNING
SERVICE RUNNING
...
Take off your tin foil hat. Nobody is trying to steal your thoughts. Bottom line, it sounds like this phone is not for you.

I would recommend running your phone in airplane mode 100% of the time. I guarentee you can have a device where absolutely no data is sent or received and you can be happy.

what i would hope to get from this is samsung getting there ass in gear, lawsuits are not always about the money...
Funny, I was actually thinking of a class action against Samsung last night.
And yes, Lieff Cabraser is a very reputable plaintiff-side firm.
The point of the class action wouldn't be to get bucketloads of $$, but it would punish Samsung for deceptive trade practices. It's just one way to let a company know they can't get away with this kind of crap.
The fact of the mater is that samsung advertised the phone as having certain features. If they knowingly released the product with those features is a subpar working condition, it is basically false advertising. The fact that they have focused on products that are not released indicates they have no intention if fixing this quickly.
Of you buy a car and fail to make your payment in time because you bought a new television, saying you will make the payment in a few weeks won't get you off the hook from penalties.
Samsung has a history of giving promises and nit fulfilling them. This time it is in print on the box. I'm normally nor a fan I'd class action, but this is a case where it may be warranted. The best porcine would be for people who are unsatisfied to get money back as long as the phone is in good working condition. Then unhappy people wouldn't be posting on these forums all day long.

I don't think flashing a ROM voids your warranty.
If you buy a computer from Dell, you have root access on that computer. If the computer doesn't do what you want, like play tetris, you install tetris. If you screw up your computer in the process, and it won't boot up any more, you may have a warranty that you can fall back on, if you paid for it and you are still within the time period. We install apps on our computers and phones all the time to increase their usability and functionality. Sometimes we replace the entire OS with a new OS. If you take your Dell computer, reformat the HD and install linux, can you still send it back to dell if the motherboard fails? Youbetcha. And does Dell sometimes release firmware updates to fix things that aren't perfect in the bios? Yep, that happens too. Perhaps the bluetooth never worked right on the new computer. They release a bios update to fix it.
That's life. Just because something doesn't work, doesn't mean you go suing them. Do you do that for everything that you buy? You've never bought a piece of computer hardware that just wouldn't work in your computer? Did you sue them too? You must be very busy keeping track with all those lawsuits.
Relax, Francis.

"Too much headache" because you charged so little it wasn't worth your time to provide support.
$75+ allows the person flashing to provide that support.
When I provide my services (nothing to do with phones though), it doesn't cost me anywhere near what I charge to do the actual service. It's all the pre and post work that makes it expensive AND I'm not a charity so I need to profit as well.

Customer support doesn't have to be headache inducing (it's only stressful if you let it be), but it's certainly going to be time consuming - that's why you need to charge adequately. Not only does it make it worth your while but it also keeps you from becoming swamped and overwhelmed with requests.

IF and only IF you are CURRENTLY eligible for the $75 upgrade, the 12 month mark since your last registered upgrade, you can get your upgrade pushed to a full upgrade THROUGH ACCOUNT SERVICES ONLY.
How? Call in, tell whoever answers that you want to cancel, this will put your account at risk getting you to Account Services, and then tell them that you wanted to upgrade but you can't now and want to know if they can reset your upgrade eligibility.
Follow my instructions. If you are not yet eligible for $75, it WILL NOT WORK. Period. Not even if you are one day away, IT WILL NOT WORK. Can't be any clearer than that.
To clarify because some people are seriously dumb: This is an OFFER that Account services has for a LIMITED TIME for qualified customers. Qualified means 1) at risk AND (not or) 2) currently elig for $75. Both. Not either, it's both, that's the program rules.

Why don't you get a full unlimited plan with sprint (minutes and data) and pay that for three months. That should make you eligible for a full upgrade. Did this like in Jan so bout time the evo 3d comes out I could grab it. Sprint changed their upgrade policies but you have to fall in certain guidelines for you to be eligible to get a new phone at no cost every year. If you don't fall within those guidlines you only have to pay so much for the phone you want

You know. These scams are hilarious. I have been dealing with Sprint a few years now and you only get something done with the right person and the right words. Scamming and POSTING it on an open forum is just stupid. As big of a corporation these cell providers are do you not think they don't pay some poor soul to read around on forums? As fast as these things get posted they correct them.
I have a relative that works for Sprint and I have talked to them about these types of things. I'm not blowing smoke, they seriously read forums such as these to see what people are trying to pull off.
Now as for rooting thats a thing that 85% of people are doing. They know they can't stop it and they know that you can do certain things to a phone to make it not power up or constantly boot loop so if you got the TEP then they are gonna replace it. However if they catch on then your screwed.

Wait. He's providing a service that people COULD technically do on their own, but choose to pay the guy for? That sounds terrible! That's worse than taking a car to the mechanics!

Sarcasm, well at the very least, a disclaimer can be made that it can be done for free yourself and make reference to the developers of the tools.

Rooting Service !

Sounds to me like they are offering a service just like fixing a car or installing Linux. Not sure why that qualifies them as “scumbags”.
I'm not very technical, and like several others have mentioned, would gladly pay someone to root my phone.
I did call them about my rooting my Inspire a few months back, and they did offer replacement protection against bricking my unit. Also, if I mess-up my device in the future, I can always send it back to them for repair – no charge.
If everything on the xda-threads worked perfectly, I too wouldn’t mind rooting myself. But, I can see from several threads, some of which are over 1000 pages long, that things don’t always go right – I don’t have time for that (as much fun as it sounds).
Find me a member of ebay, craigslist or XDA-Developers who will do the same job for less, with the same guarantee, and I’d move my business to them – I have yet to find anybody.
Everyone is good at something.
Not everyone is good at everything.
I wish I thought about this stuff before those guys did.
