selling bricked g1/dream for parts - G1 General

Hey there, I was kind of confused on where to put this so I decided to put it here. If it needs to be moved, please tell me or do it for me, thank you.
I have a bricked rogers HTC dream and I no longer need it anymore. the phone is in pretty good condition considering I had it for 3 years. internally everything is okay except for the motherboard of course (cuz' its bricked LOL) and I will include the battery headphones, charger and anything I have with it. The LCD is in perfect condition and has no scratches. all buttons are working fine also.
Asking $45 for the whole thing, I'm willing to go less but depending how I feel LOL.
If you do need it please email me or PM me.

Best way to break a MDA

I need to break my MDA ASAP. Anyone know an easy way to make it non-functional besides putting it in the microwave?
(I don't want it to be able to turn on or display anything on the screen).
I know i could just unplug it during a rom upgrade... but then i'd just get the multi-color boot.... i don't want it to boot at all =).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Okay why the f*** would you wanna break a MDA... Just give it to me...
Either way... Try putting in a herms on wizard or vise versa... that would do the trick
that's a good idea i'll try that
.... i'm breaking it so i can get a new phone =)
Just flash a G4 IPL/SPL if you have a G3 or vice versa, that'll brick it for sure!
Soak that biatch in a salt-water solution and wait for it to dry. It will never start again. The salt shorts out the microscopic traces and the planes on multilayer boards.
The only downside is that it will be glaringly obvious to any technician opening the case that it was destroyed in water.

LOL, that's a good one.
I tried to write the G4 ROM & the Hermes ROM to the MDA but both installer packages wouldn't let me.
I ended up reverting to the Base Tmobile 226 ROM and unplugged the USB cord in the middle of the install..... that bricked it (just hangs at the Red/Green/Blue startup screen).... which i guess.. is good enough
That still is not broken, ill buy it
over clock the processor i had a sprint ppc and bricked it that way
WHY in Hell's fire would you want to break a really good device for something new?? My MDA is broken and I don't want another device, I want my MDA. If you truly feel you must kill the device, then damage your USB port. Without a working USB, you cannot charge your device, sync your device, etc...I know. My USB is loose, and I am doctoring it just long enough until I can buy another MDA. Please, just don't let me know when the deed is done. I think you are evil! (A moment of silence please for the loss of yet another device)
Man just discharge the battery if you want to show to your dad 'hey dad, see, its dead?' or do something similar. Then sell it away. If you sell it on a cheap price, somebody out there who dreams of buying a Wizard but can't buy just because he can't pay will be so happy to buy at a super-cheap cost from you. Breaking is very... obsolete as well as stupid idea. There are so many things you can do on a wizard which you don't need. You can test programs on it before running on your new device to see if they aren't going to kill it (even if they do, you'll save your new one). So many experiments can be done on a working device for which you don't care.
Last but not least, I'm willing to buy it from you. Seriously.
I think his objective is to get a new device for free from T-Mobile and I bet he has a warranty.
The MDA is discontinued, so my guess is he's wanting to commit fraud and purposely break the MDA so T-Mobile will give him a shiny new Wing.
Just a hunch though...

That was my thought, and I seriously have to ask...WHY????? The Wing sucks! The Kaiser isn't out...
Why does the Wing suck? Hardware-wise, isn't it basically a slimmer MDA? I really dig the spring-loaded keyboard on the newer phones.
I used my sister's for a week, and it actually seemed to be less responsive and much buggier than my Wizard. A little slimmer isn't enough to make me change. And the Wizard is so tried and true, with so many customization abilities, I'll stick with reliable, even if it is a little older and a bit chubbier.
so u wanna break it aigh i got the perfect thing for you a stick of tnt that should do the trick or if u don´t wanna blow that sucker up u can always place it on the asphalt and take your dads car and drive over or u can just take it to pieces and short circuit that should to the job or i got a another idea take some acid and soak it a little bit but the best thing to do is give it to me i would like to destroy it my self
PREVIOUSLY ON MDA BREAK...
...the company [aka ssstonebraker] are out to break the MDA, GnatGoSplat intervenes to flash the MDA with a G4 IPL/SPL and vice versa, which will leave the MDA just unconscious. but akashastrega plans to pull the plug on USB port, afghanistan (just a name) crosses over to place the MDA on asphalt and driver over it. rellik232's and akashastrega was a while ago busy gaining evidence on why the company are out to break the MDA, iligitrick jumps in to overclock the situation. will the company finally achieve its goal, will the others win over the company....we'll soon find out...as Krix is the MDA's only hope to buy it over....in this episode

[Q] Unlocked/Rooted G2-Need to Get Warranty

My Tmobile G2, which I bought couple of 4-5 months back, is almost Dead. (Displays couple of white stripes on black screen once powered).
My contract with Tmobile is cancelled/broken so they are unable to access my account and wanted me to contact HTC. I did so and HTC agreed to repair the phone under the condition that there is no unauthorized software installed on it. My G2 is rooted and has CM7 on it. I dont have any way to flash it back to stock without the display working. Rooting or Custom ROM has nothing to do with this issue but HTC is not going to agree. If I send it and dont get repaired due to out-of-warranty violation, I would have to bear shipping charges/ HTC technician anaylsis charges etc and still end up with a dead phone.
What should I do now?
(...I wish I had not rooted my phone and put CM7)
I beleive this is the guide you need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971

How do unroot without my display working?
Oops didn't read correctly, must be time for bed. I remember I had a peice of software ocne that mirrored my phones on my pc and I was able to control all the functions with out looking at or touching the phone, but I can't for the life of think of its name.
The only other way that springs to mind is to get someone to talk you through what buttons to press, can't imagine that would be very easy though.
Actually it might not be that hard, because you only have to use CWM and the bootloader, the guide says to use rom manager but its not really needed and navigating through cwm with no display wouldn't be to difficult with someone guiding you. If no one else offers to help I'm happy to try but it wouldn't until at least 7pm GMT tomorrow.

HD2 for $70?

Guy has a HD2 with the MIUI ROM and says the SD card slot isn't working and the screen is sometimes unresponsive. I figured probably just wipe it all and start over until he told me he recently took it apart and decided it was too complicated for him to deal with so he slapped it all back together. He seems to know what he's talking about quite a bit. Is it even worth me getting it for $70 or is this a joke. What do you guys think?
HD2 screens tend to get unresponsive after a while of use. It seems some connectors of the digitizer run underneath the Red Dial hardware button. Eventually though, all HD2 screens will die. The digitzer can be replaced, but it is quite difficult to do apparantly. Also, digitizers are like 70$. So no, I do not recommend you buying that phone. You would only have to spend more money to get it fixed (that is, if you could even fix it).
Agreed. Too troublesome to replace the digitizer. Will end up running you as much as if you bought a fully functioning used HD2.

I agree, only if you're not a techy skilled guy!
Thanks guys! I was willing to take it on but not after he pulled it apart. I've repaired a few phones before but one thing I hate is if it's previously been tinkered with. That's just a no no. You all are right, that $70 could nearly double and at that point I would have been better off getting another one. I really appreciate it.

And the digitizer on the HD2 is particular awful to change out. One of the main versions of it require heating it in an oven and prying it apart. Not exactly what I'm willing to do, in any case, unless the phone and parts are free.
hd2 70$ !!
sent u a pm !! !
I'd be willing to pay $70 for the working mainboard.

he doesnt want to sell it !!
i pm'ed him and he told me so !! !!
mods pls close this thread ! !!
think you have to bake the phone in an oven to melt the glue to change the screen
no owen, lol. it's quite easy to do, at least it was on my diamond, who has the same assembly. a little hair drier is just what the doctor ordered...
change the screen take tons of works!
Yeah I ended up passing on it guys. I didn't have the phone in possession, was just getting advice while I was thinking of purchasing it. From what I understand, it's quite a bit of work replacing that screen, but a simple hair dryer like rape_artist stated would work, or a heat gun.

Depends on how dead your S2 is.
My S2 was running CM9 when it died. And when it died, it died totally. No response whatsoever, even when plugging in the USB charger. In this case, I believe Samsung has no way of knowing whether I was running a custom ROM or not.
In the end my S2 was replaced free of charge. I even got a free screen change (I pointed out the infamous bright band at the top due to uneven burn out), and a new battery. Props to Samsung. Apple would probably have wanted to rape my wife and sell my firstborn into slavery.
Im sorry about your loss I think mines on its way too... its slowly going:angel:

Mine was also really dead, also even the charger did not do anything. I hope my experience will be the same as yours. I just hope the fall down scratches will not put them in the position to say that this happen because of the fall down.
Thanx a lot for sharing your experience it is exactly what I'm looking for. :good:
I agree on APPLE, they just want your blood!!!!

I should clarify that the motherboard was replaced. However seeing as they also changed the screen (confirmed due to the bright band at where the notification bar would be), I wonder why they didn't just give me a brand new phone. I can tell that the chassis was still my old one due to the presence of my screen protector.
Sorry to hear of your loss m8.
Hope u find happiness in the future. Lol:thumbup:

A few day later they rung n said the mother board was damaged.(not under warranty of course) argued my case they gave a quote for screen etc etc. Ending up payin £120 had new screen n motherboard when device returned camera didnt work n was fuming as this took 3month in total. So replaced that myself. Never will i send another phone to them.

Cracked but working

Anyone have a spare that is fully functional can be cracked that they can part with or have upgraded. I need AT&T or unlocked. My phone just went out. Please PM anyone. Happy holidays. I'm in WV?. Had it for two years overheated I guess. I've tried everything
I have one I recently replaced the screen on and it works fine except the earpiece speaker does not work anymore. Works with wired headphones or bluetooth. Mystifying to me.

Can I still make calls with earbuds? Can you part with this man? Is it just sitting around? I'd really appreciate it. PM I'll give you my address I don't have anything to offer except a very cracked moto x but has issues. This would be a great Christmas if you could part with it. Thanks Joe
Thanks for getting back to me in PM . Maybe someone else will have one for me they can part with. I didn't realize you replaced the screen and new parts. Merry Christmas
