When pressing the power button to wake my Evo, the bottom four lights always work but sometimes the screen's backlight will not come on but I can see that phone actually did wake. I switched from CM7 to rooted stock for a while to see if it's just a cyanogen issue. So far, the stock ROM hasn't had the backlight issue. Have any other CM users had this same issue?

Yeah that's a waking issue and it's the kernel.
I have the same issue.
I think some have said that the newest version of tiamat or whatever fixes this.
Thanks! So I have to flash a new kernel to do away with the issue? I really like the stock CM kernel; I can get two days (on average) battery life with it. How does the tiamat kernel do in comparison?

Yes but when using CM7 I only charged it every other night (about 48-hour battery life) unless I happened to fire up Mario 64 on N64oid that day.
Also, how does the tiamat kernel compare to the original CM7 one?

Same here. Having this problem for long time. Don't recalled if had it with 6 but definitely with the 7 rc's.
I'm still having this problem. Anything ever happen with this?
Turning off automatic brightness and turning on screen-on animation worked for me. Phone wakes up just fine now. Try the automatic brightness option first.
Also, when pushing the power button, if you touch the screen like you are going to unlock it, the screen should come to life.

I didn't mess with the auto brightness, but, oddly enough, turning the screen-on animation from on to OFF fixed the backlight issue for me.
I wonder if toggling it one way or another just sets something right that was conflicting or something.
Either way, thanks for the advice!
i just flashed the tiamat 4.1.0 kernel..the backlight for the capacitive worked for like 5 minutes then wont show back up unless i switch the automatic brightness on and off. when i do that and put the fone to sleep and wake it back up, no backlight again. there has to be a fix for this..i love cm7 minus the gps issues (seemed to go away with the tiamat kernel), and the backlight issues.
check it out

i have, but the latest cm7 nightlies haven't had that issue. or you can flash a new kernel. however if you just want a stable rom i would go with decks gb rom. if you click on the link in my sig i have all the working aosp kernels in the attachments and all the links to all the aosp roms. ^_^
Also have had this issue on pretty much every AOSP rom, currently Xplod based on CM7. It's very annoying...happens about half the time I try to unlock my phone. Turning off automatic brightness doesn't work and I've always had the screen on animation turned off. Stock kernel and tiamat 3.3.7 both do it. I can't even get tiamat 4.1.0 to boot so screw that. I really wish I could switch back to Sense as a daily but the display usage bug I have makes the battery last about 4 hours...

Was just wondering why the ShadowROM thread was closed. Fine if xda dosen't want to support external links, but why close the thread to those that want to talk about the ROM with other members of xda?
For those of you that gave this ROM a chance what are your impressions. I love this ROM. Very fast, one of the only froyo roms that sports an option for a rotary lockscreen with music controls built in. I also love the fact that it has a CPU scaling option which makes it so set cpu does not need to be downloaded. Below is a themed version of this ROM showing off the rotary lock screen.

I agree, this rom is pretty awesome. I flashed conap's CFS v5 kernel over and it runs even smoother than with the stock kernel that comes with it. So I highly suggest flashing conap's kernel.
The only problem I have with it is that there's no trackball or led notification lights for text messages. Or if there is they're not working for me, and I can't find any options in the settings for it.
I love the CPU scaling options too, no need for setCPU or collin's battery script for this rom.

(post removed...question answered...sorry!)
Like everyone else said..I like this rom for all the little things.
Rotary lockscreen options
Not SetCPU required as is has the settings built in
The ability to swap any app from data to system and vice versa allowing easy uninstallation of system files
The camera/ 3d gallery works great
Adblock settings built in
The only downside currently is the lack of led/trackball notifications and an older kernel. Once these two things get spruced up it should be great.

I'm one of the unlucky ones, as I can't flash V0.2.0 or V0.2.1. I've been running V0.1.0 for about a month now, and I love it! Like mentioned before the only con to this ROM is that there are no notification lights.
When I try to flash the newer versions I get tossed into a boot loop. Has anyone had this problem and found a way around it? I'd really love to try the new update as it sounds even better than the version I'm running.
V0.1.0 is super snappy and reliable. GPS Locks on instantly, little to no FC's, fast, CPU integration. It's all there. But sounds like the newest version improves on everything. Plus there's a rotary screen! Drool.. Thanks to everyone in advance.
Are there themes available? Their website links to some, but none seem to be for the Eris. Are there other compatible themes?

Just google shadowrom. It is easy to find. : )

Shadowrom.com. That's their site. It has the download on it.
My two cents, this is the most stable 2.2 Rom I've used. No lag, gps locks on immediately, no random reboots and also plays well with the Collin ph battery script. It took time for my phone to get use to running it, the fist couple of boots it was really laggy so I just kept rebooting and now its like butter.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of "lean and mean" so I use Screen Shot a lot (by GikSoft). If there was an icon in the Notif area for ShootMe, it looks like it's gone now; and I don't see an option to enable/disable it in ShootMe.

Is there any advantage to setting it to underclock to 368 instead of 245? I would think setting it to 245 would conserve even more battery life...?
No disadvantage other than when the CPU ramps back up from the screen being off. I just wait about 1 second before unlocking my screen, but I'm a little OCD about my device performing as smooth as glass. Even though I know WHY it's a little slow when ramping back up, I just don't like to "feel" it go slowly.
I've been watching Faux's thread and I really dig what he's doing, how transparent he's being, etc. The performance coming from screen-off to screen-on is supposed to be a smoother with that kernel and what he's done to it.
I love my ROM and the way my device performs, so I sort of don't want to change a good thing. That being said, we all know why we got into Android in the first place.

This pertains to the Official EVO Gingerbread leak.
First off, I deleted all the bloatware...
Now, today after 3 hours of light use, I am at 95%!
This never happened before no matter which tweaked-up ROM I tried (Myn's, AOSP GB, CM, etc., etc.) With prior ROMs I would go form 100% to 90% in 30 min.
What is also interesting is that Android System now shows only 9% of battery usage, and the screen shows 63%. Previously the System would show a minimum of 40% and it was always at the top of the usage list. (especially if I was syncing Gmail, calendar, etc.)
Also this leak runs very smooth an fast. I have 0003 hardware and everything works perfectly! (No FCs at all.)

I am talking about the Official Sprint EVO 2.3.3 which leaked a couple days ago. (see links above)
The Kernel I am using is the one which it came with:
2.6.35.10-gaa602b7 [email protected] #1 Fri April 8 12:20:26 CST 2011
The file for the rooted/deodexed ROM is called TMartinPPC_EvoGingerSense_v0.1. (there is a link in the first post above)
It's GB with Sense, written for the EVO, as opposed to the ported ones which have been around for months.
(also there seems to be an issue with some 0002 hardwhere where the screen brightness can not be adjusted. But I have 0003 and it works fine.)
I have 003 hardware and can't adjust the screen brightness but doesn't really bother me
I am also getting great battery life out that stock rom too
Awsome thanks.

Have you all properly wiped your caches and all that?
Anyone else with 0003 hardware and flawless operation?
(i have had various issues with every custom ROM, including poor batter life, randomly changing notifications, no 4G, balky power button, browser failing to reflow when zooming, etc. I have none of these issues with this leak!)
I thought that I would give MIUI a go since I have read great things about it. I have been using CM for a very long time now, so I wasn't expecting to be blown away.
Overall I am pretty impressed with a few caveats. The interface is very nice and I especially like how the notifications drop out of the bar up top, like when you get a text message. I don't need to use handcent anymore to say the least. The built in theme manager is cool and overall the think the menus are easier to use then most roms.
Anyways, the main issue is speed and battery. I read great things about speed but I just don't see it. The homescreen lags, apps are slow to open, and things always seem to lock up on me. I didn't restore from titanium backup, I started fresh. I'm running Savaged Zen 2.2 as my kernel, but the speed seems sluggish no matter the kernel.
The battery life isn't as great as it was on CM7 either. I can barely.make it through a day on MIUI.
Any tips for improving performance before I leap back to CM?
I would stay with Miui for a couple of days and I guarantee you that the battery life will get better, also I would try using tiamat, or godmode kernel they are great.

Miui is awesome but the lag just kills me. I've tried every kernel out there and nothing changed lol.

Try using setcpu with the tiamat 4.0.5 kernel. Maybe your cpu is constantly pegged at its highest frequency so its killing the battery. With set CPU installed I had my Max at 1113 and min at 384 running smartass; I easily got 24 hours with moderate usage. Also download spareparts from the market and make sure your end button has the phone set to sleep.

I've used many kernals (mostly CM and MIUI) as they tend to have the least amount of clutter.
I've been very happy with MIUI (been on it for over 5 months) when I used to flash a new rom almost daily.
I've found MIUI (more than any other rom) has "finiky" issues with installs.
If you've not done it, I'd recommend doing a complete wipe using Caulkin Format All and Format Temp, fresh install of miui (reboot 3 times after you install it, helps get rid of some fo the chinese crap), flash a kernal of your choice (i've been rocking tiamit 4.0.5 sbc) and then configure your phone and set it all up.
I love the fact that you can have folders on your home screen (that show the icons of the content) however, it doesnt hide your status bar (I think it's stupid to have the clock show twice).
I use launcher pro and folder organizer ( available on market) and love it.
I have a very minimalistic layout with everything grouped neatly.
if you've not used MIUI, try it! Stiff is amazing!

I hear that its very Iphone like and has a lot of things not working in the latest update, is that true been wanting to try it
Tiamat 4.0.4 is the best i have used on MIUI. Savage have never been smooth for me. Overclock to 1152 and it rocks.

Everything seems to work just fine for me with the latest update. I haven't tried Navigation, but my GPS locks almost instantly, so I suppose it would work just fine. It seems like GPS is the biggest problem.
I still have the bug where the automatic brightness doesn't work correctly. I have just set the brightness somewhere and forgot about it. It seems to work correctly for others though. Guess it might have something to do with the kernel though.

Another easy way is to use Kernel Manager from the Market. He has all the most popular kernels listed there. It is a breeze.
try tiamat kernel 3.3.7 which seems to work the best for most people or try the latest one which is 4.0.5. I'm using the latest one with vipermod which is a tool to lower voltages and it's great.
edit: was a hardware issue. getting a refurb.
Ok I am very confused with this one, for almost a week now I have been getting a repeating "usb connected" notification over and over and ove....
BUT only on CM7, and MIUI, and CM9. Started on Nandroids but also clean installs
NOT on touchwiz roms which makes no sense. even went EC05>EI22>EL30 offically and nothing so I cant take this to sprint even though I have TEP.
I have ODIN'd EC05 twice so I know the USB isnt broken.
Yesterday it went away until my batt went to 33% (was on CM7)?!
I have cleaned my USB port thoroughly as well.
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH it drains battery as fast as touchwiz does and slows it down
So yeah any suggestions or ideas are much appreciated TIA
Ok. So my epic can't run an aosp rom great. I cannot recreate this on stock so I am screwed if I try to bring it to sprint with CM7 on it. Damnit I have been running CM7 since october I can't stand touchwiz roms. So no one can help?

Good suggestion it makes it less anoying but I am still getting a full wake lock and its draining my battery. Also it seems to keep taxing the cpu. While on cm7 it says its charging when the phone is compltely off. This is the wierdest issue ever.

Gotcha not just annoying spam but a battery drainer too hmm I wonder if you could disable it altogether through the developer parts or whatever ?
I'm not sure why that happens have you tried redownloading the ROM? It seems as if it was a bad flash if something is spamming you also try another kernel maybe the one in cm7 has something wrong is it a wakelock or a kernel wakelock?

I have used my old nandroid (i make daily ones when updating nightlys) after odining which had samurai. I also did a clean install of CM7 wimax RCO and tried nightly 33. Tried it on MIUI and CM9 from fresh ODINS. I also have been getting crappy battery life on stock EL30 but I cant be sure its a hardware issue. This really sucks its like I have an AOSP blocker on my phone *looks at samsprint* lol

Its either WiFi, Screen on time, or Awake time. You can check it by tapping the graph and if its awake time that's what's eating your battery

Its usually the awake bar if not on wifi then its your cpu staying awake go get battery stats and see what your wakelock is partial or kernel.

I found out if I checked enable usb debugging I could recreate this on a stock Rom I'm sending this from an EVO veiw 4g in the store right now. God they are so stupid they installed juice defender and said it was fixed since I said it is staying awake from thinking a usb cord is plugged in. I just turned usb debugging back on and told them to keep working on it. And to uninstall juice defender.
call customer service and have their android techs run thru their spiel see if they can get it to work the instore techs usually dont know jack been in that same boat if customer service cant fix they will send you a replacement device been in that boat too im on my second epic but this one ive had 0 problems with just make sure you get rid of all signs of root b4 you send it back
ok I'm getting a refurb sent now they worked on mine for a while, on a side not i met a rich lady in the store that is getting me a good part time job.
guess everything happens for a reason
