Refurb G2 broken speaker - G2 and Desire Z General

I sent my G2 back cause I broke the screen and they sent me a replacement that's refurbished. Not until after I fully rooted did I notice that the speaker pops and vibrates during phone calls. Do I have to unroot before I send this back or will they not notice?
Note that I did not have insurance and they charged me $107.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App

S-Off? If so, they will notice almost instantly when the go into bootloader. Even if not, they will probably notice anyway. You should unroot.

had the same problem, damn tmobile ! im callin them tomorrow to *****

S3BAZ10, let me know what they tell you.
I think I'm going to live with the bad audio rather than going thru the unrooting process.
I'm gonna call tomorrow and see if they will give me the full discount on a new phone sooner, instead of shipping it back.

two probs with phone

My phone was rooted and running a lag fix and was working fine untill i saw a cool theme that i wanted. I tried to flash it but it bricked my phone enstead. I was able to get it back buy following some instructions using odin. I got it back but without avitar, sims, and media hub. Now it also restarts over and over when i have my wifi on. I turn wifi off and it stays on. Is there a fix for what is going on? and is there any way i can get back avitar and the media hub. If not im going to take the phone back. Its not rooted anymore so it should not be a problem. What kinda of warrenty does to phone have i bought it the day it came out?
you get a one year warranty against factory defects. just call t-mo and tell them your phone keeps boot looping. they'll send you out another one in no time

Maybe people should take responsibility for their actions instead?
Can I just go to tmo store and get a replacement or is it something I need to call on

If you're past the two week grace period you can go into a store, but they will just order one for you there. Even with insurance they won't hot swap you at the store.
Use Odin again and QUIT MESSING WITH YOUR PHONE. Why are you all encouraging the op to get a replacement?

You did this to yourself, YOU are responsible! don't try to scam T-mo into giving you a new device for something YOU did.

You would be committing fraud which is a crime. Anyone who advises you how to do it would also be committing a crime.
How about you ask how to fix the problem and I'm sure people well versed in Odin will walk you through the fix.
Thanks for helping to drive up the cost of the phones, much appreciated. You VOIDED the warranty by rooting it, deal with it, not expect the rest of us to subsidize your phones.
do people not read disclamers? the devs clearly tell you that your phonw might blow up, so take responsibility for what you do to your crappy phones and man up.

Will t-mo replace defect unit if you bought it from ebay?
people REALAX. I went to tmobile and told them what i did and they said the root that i had done DID NOT MESS WITH THE WARRINTY. And that i should have brought the phone in before doin anything to it. I have INSURANCE and I will get a new phone tomarrow. Now the guy that helped my had the same root on his vibrant and that he would not have done it if it did mess with the warrinty. So I come on here for some help and you guys toss me under a bus. I never said i was going to LIE TO TMOBLE i would not do that. I still had to pay 130 bucks any way.
Yea, so suck it you war mongers. LOL
Sent from my Vibrant using the XDA app.
Your friendly neighborhood tmobile hacker boy may have taken it back but the policy has always been very clear that rooting your phone will void your warranty. Regardless of whether they took it back or not, the fact remains, you broke it and you want someone else to eat some of the responsibility for your actions.
I told them that i was the one that messed it up so i did not lie to them. I filed a claim with the insurance and they said as long as the type of root that i did was a small one that even though i messed it up there concearn is the warrinty of the phone. its not like all of you are these saints. I did nothing wrong. The insurance could have declined the claim but they did not they just said that i problably should not do it again and that if it did happen again for the same reasone that they would reject the claim. So i did not have any friends at tmo or the insurance. So im all done with this now. Beside all of you have rooted any way so let my say that i hope it does not happen to you.

Replacing G2

I love the phone but the hinge is a tad loose and there's like a little space inbetween the screen and it's backing (kind or hard to explain). My real question is, am I going to have to bend over backwards to get this replaced? Just getting the phone required me to be on the phone with t mobile and best buy multiple times to fix billing issues.

Returing for a new one after the 14 days will prob be hard. I would just call 611 tell them your phone reboots all the time and you need a new one. They will prob give you a refurb though. Personally I would wait a month or so they may work the bugs out in later models figure out how to tighten the hinge etc.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
I forgot to mention that this would be within the 14 day limit. I just need to give them my receipt and the phone right? Like any other item or is it different because it's a phone?
make sure ur firm when you return it because more than likely they will tell you that its the way it was designed or some b.s. of that source. dont go in there girly and meek cuz they will play u like i play my ps3. youve been warned, now go forth on your journey
Thank you very much, now I just gotta track down what was in the box.

I went to best buy and everyone they opened for me were even looser than mine. Whatever, it's not a huge deal. Thanks for the help anyway.

I returned mine today (so I could but the one at Costco for cheaper). I told him the phone reboots randomly. (It actually did do that twice, but it wasn't really bothering me) He immediately started trying to troubleshoot and I just said, "No. I want to return it."
Haha. Ya they always try and fail to change your state of mind you have when you enter the store. I would like to go get it for cheaper at costco but it was such a pain dealing with tmobile cause they effed up something on their end that required me to make multiple phone calls to remedy their skrew up. Arggg

Super loose hinge and rebooting problems, how so I get a replacement

How can I get a replacement from T-Mobile after the original 14 days? I'm off contact. Should I call customer loyalty? I've been a customer for 7 years.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
If you pre-ordered it over the phone you'll have to call, if you bought at the store just walk in and tell 'em what's going on.
If they refuse to send you a new one then choke someone.... Kiddin' aside though, I'm sure they'll replace it as long as you reason with them.

Have any of you had to send it back?

I just noticed a dead pixel on my phone... Such a bummer... Tomorrow I gotta get up early since I got my phone online.... Send it back and go to my local tmobile with the shipping slip so they can give me a new phone on the spot. This was the instructions given to me from tmobile on the phone. Hopefully everything goes smooth... Ive only owned my red monster for 3 freakin days dude!! :-(

Had to ship my phone back to tmobile after only a few hours of use. There was a dead LED under the home button. I had to ship it back to tmobile and they reshipped the phone 2nd day air to me. Wish they would have told me to go to the tmobile store to pick up the replacement.
Yeah... In fact I just did my double check phone call and now there saying only "certain" T-Mobile stores do exchanges like the way the Person I spoke to first stated. Now I gotta call t-mobile back in the morning so they can call a store that does do exchanges as long as I have a packing slip... ahh I smell a disaster lol

My phone bricked itself, but...
It might have been my fault. I got the phone from Wirefly for $75. I have had an HTC Aria since the summer and loved it, but found myself craving a bigger screen and loved the idea of WiFi calling, android 2.2 and a better camera. Unfortunately, I had problems from the beginning. At first my signal kept cycling between edge and hspa with 1 bar. Then, an ota started. I thought it completed, but I may have inadvertently left the house while it was downloading. At some point while I was on my way from Austin to Houston, the phone started cycling on and off. By the time I got to Houston, it was bricked I sent it back to Wirefly and cancelled my T-Mobile account.
i took back my white one, i had a lot of creaking on that phone at the bottom of it and plus i ended up wanting the black one over time. got tired of the white one. but here in cali u got 30 days to return ur phone after u bought it from the tmobile store, so im glad for that. if it was 14 days i would have been screwed lol. but they took my phone no problem, i just told them i wanted a black one and thats it.

That sounds very strange. I've not heard anyone else have that problem. Plus, the OTA is downloaded over the Tmob network so leaving the house shouldn't have caused anything.
I may have to exchange mine as the ffc appears to be off center (to the right).

Dude, now that you're saying that I too notice that my ffc is off to the right and not in the center JK bro, I'm pretty sure it's meant to be that way
I returned my first black one for a white one when the black one hit FC city loadin up the Faves widget
Then... returned the white (after S-Off) for another white due to creaking at the bottom!
On the 3rd one now (last exchange TMO will give me) and it feels just right
Had to send back my first one because it had two dead pixels. My ffc was also off to the right.
Got my new one today only to realize the minute i got home under better light that there are two more dead pixels. My ffc is now in the dead center.
Any advice? aren't we only able to get two returns through the t-mobile store? i know if i send it into t-mobile for any reason they'll just send me back a refurbished one

Left it... just wiped it at the counter.... they won't check the bootloader... so as long as its not a brick at the store... i wouldn't worry

Are you within your remorse period? if so... return the ***** completely and buy it else where. and don't feel bad about it... if you are going to pay this much for a device and presumably have it for 2 years... it better be perfect now... cuz it won't get any better.

Yes, I technically have 13 days of remorse since I had to get the second phone. I have to drive 1.5 hours just for the nearest tmobile store so I called the call center and they are sending me another replacement. I just have the sick feeling that what they are going to send me is a good ol' refurb just like they do every damn time you send your phone in and they "send you a new one." this phone is perfect so far but if it has 2 dead pixels out of the box i can only imagine it will continue to get worse.

Dont worry so much..
It's way too early in the product life-cycle to get refurbs. Believe me, it takes time to get them to the centers, inspect them, do what ever repairs are necessary and recertify them and supply TMO. Supply chain cannot fulfill this fast since the device has only been out for ~2 weeks. That's one benefit of adopting early.

Epic speaker blown??

Was listening to some Pandora earlier through the speaker phone and everything sounded fine but just a while ago I noticed that it sounds blown now, restarted phone uninstalled a few apps thinking that was it but still no go... help! Lol should I just take it in? I have TEP, can I get a new phone? Possibly a nexus 4g? Or can they fix just the speakerphone? Suggestions? Can I fix myself? TIA!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I've 'blown' two speakers, both while the phone sat quiety overnight. Bring it to a store, they'll replace the speaker in store, or give you a refurb epic, or ship a refurb epic to your house with a return envelope for the broken one.
I too somehow blew a speaker while it was charging at night. Very odd. What's more odd is that when I had the speaker replaced it didn't even fix the issue. They even restored the factory software and that didn't help. Ended up replacing the phone.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Thanks for the replies! Never thought I could blow a speaker on a phone! Ok, I'm rooted and have a rom installed, should I just take it in or should I revert back to stock? Probably be fine considering they're just going to replace speaker? Should I keep my mem card?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I left my phone rooted and kept the rom on aswell. They don't care. But remember to do a nandroid backup as they may reload your phone with factory software. Leave the sd card in there.

mine blew earlier this year as well. took it to best buy and they sent it off for repairs. they just wiped it back to stock.
I had to get the phone exchanged through TEP due to a blown speaker
Going to the Sprint store tomorrow to get it fixed or replaced, am I going to have to pay anything for getting it fixed or replaced? Hope not! I would love to somehow get a Nexus 4G instead lol, but I know thats just wishful thinking
This happened to me a couple Weeks ago the the guy said if we have the speaker we fix it if not we give you a new phone. They had the speaker and fixed it no charge. Took 20 minutes.
I have tep.

If you're paying the 7.99/m charg there will be no charge for any repairs unless there is water damage I believe. The speaker is free for sure.
Also I always flashed to stock ec05 via odin before going in. I know they punch the version/modem/etc into the computer. I've heard they don't care but it takes 5 minutes.
First Epic, speaker blown, Sprint store was out of speakers so they shipped me a replacement phone.
Second Epic, speaker blown, they had some speakers, replaced in store in about 30 minutes.
Both times phone was rooted and running SyndicateROM Frozen 1.2...they didn't give me any problem about it.
I have an extra speaker for sale that you can simply replace. Its OEM.
mine blew as well, i think these are common problems, which is why i bought an extra.

Cool, thanks for the offer but I took it to a Sprint store today. Took them like an hour to fix it but they got it done (no charge), now I'm noticing my power button doesn't "stick out" as much as normal, going to try opening it myself sometime and reseating it or see if there's anything I can do, maybe its just out of place, oh well minor annoyance. Thanks for the info/replies everyone!
