[Q] Problems with RIFF Box resurrected HD2 - HD2 General

Hello,
I have a T-Mobile HTC HD2 (NM8PB81120) that I recently "resurrected" with RIFF Box.
It has SPL-2.08.HSPL installed.
I tried to install a stock ROM through USB, but it froze at 8%
I also tried to install MAGLDR, the installation completed but the menu never shows up (even when holding the power button).
This is my first time messing with one of these phones (I'm a noob).
I would like to get any OS running on it, but I'm sure I'll just turn it into a brick again if I keep playing with it the way I have.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Where did you get the ROM from? If it was HTC.com did you enter the serial number of the HD2 to make sure the ROM was for your HD2? You have to have a radio version 2.15.50.14 or version 2.14.50.02 or MAGLDR will not boot up.

Yes I tried to install a ROM from HTC.com that I got after giving them my IMEI number.
Would it be risky trying to install one of those radios?
And should I do it via MicroSD or USB?

No it is not risky to install one of these radios as they are the most resent radio versions that have com out the 2.15.50.14 is the most resent and the 2.14.50.02 is the next to most recent. If you have a T-Mobile HD2 (the one with T_Mobile wrote on it and a green send button and a red end button) just remember you can not flash a radio either by it's self or if it is included in a ROM package (all official ROMs will tell you what radio is in it in the full RUU name) that are 2.04.50.xx, 2.05.50.xx, or any x.xx.51.xx radio versions as they will brick a TMOUS.
You can flash the radio by USB or SD card either one you want to do. Just remember if you use USB then always put your HD2 into bootloader first, I assume you know how to put it into bootloader.

I do have the T-Mobile phone with red and green buttons.
I just downloaded "Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14**: MultiUpload" from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
And just to confirm, it is safe to install that radio by itself?
Thanks

Yes it is ok to flash the radio by itself.

Alright, I installed the radio and now the MAGLDR menu shows up
I assume the next thing to do is install an android ROM?

If that is what you want to do then yes. Check out my guide I have linked in my sig as you might find it very informative and I have two guides on how to install a NAND Android ROM at the top of my guide.

Will do.
Thanks for all the help

[Q] HD2 Doesnt upgrade

Hi,
Today I've tried to install android onto my HD2. After installing 'mgdlr' to my phone it stopped doing upgrades alltogether.
Mgdlr did install correctly but after the reset I only got that white HTC screen.
I know I have to press the power button really long etc etc (I've read the guide thoroughly).
Now, when I try to install anything it doesn't go any further than 0%. Not with any (official) ROM, radio etc.
I've done several hard resets, soft resets and re-installs but nothing gets past 0%.
Does anyone have any clue what happened and why I can't install a ROM and perhaps knows how to fix it?
What are you trying to install? An android rom? Are you going to the flashing mode in magldr? it's option 4 or 5, I think. Magldr was installed successfully? What radio do you have?
I was indeed trying to install an android rom. My radio version was/is 3.14.404.2
I never got to that mode. I've seen it in video's but mine doesn't. I only get that white screen with, in green letters, HTC on it. No matter how long I hold down the power button.
Btw, I said that magdlr installed succesfully because it installed without errors. But I think it's malfunctioning because it obviously isn;t doing what it's supposed to. Re-installing it isn't an option because it hangs at 0%
Did you try task29? might help with your upgrading issues.

Which NAND rom did you use?
You mean your radio is 2.14.404.2 right, not 3.14.404.2?
Also what is your SPL, it appears in the tri color screen/bootloader.

I think youre right about the radio. It was the standard radio of the latest stock rom. Is there any way to check? My spl is 2.08.0000.
And I was going for rafdroid, not that it matters because I never got close to installing a rom.
Thanks for the replies so far!

if your spl is 2.08.0000, first, how did you get magldr to instal since it requires hspl? second, if you removed hspl after flashing magldr (hence 2.08.0000 and not 2.08.hspl as it should be), why?
enter bootloader, does it really say 2.08.0000?
You dont have to press the power button for 'really long' only about 5 seconds, so long as its the right 5 seconds, , , start the phone, first splashscreen appears, just as the first splashscreen is about to end, (after around 5/6 seconds) start pressing power, and keep it held till the magldr menu appears.

Mate, I need more info.
1. Your device version (branded or non branded?)
2. Your rom version before you start anything (stock or custom rom?, if stock, is it version 3.14 (the latest one)?)
3. Version of Android (NAND or SD Android?)
4. Are you planning to have dual boot WP7 and SD ANdroid?
5. Do you have HSPL installed?
The solution will depend on your answer on the above question
Cheers
Ive tried task29 but it does the same as any other update. It just wont let me flash anything, it keeps hanging at 0%

Ok. Let's start from the very beginning.
Find the CORRECT STOCK ROM first. You go to htc website and use your serial number to download the rom. Make sure your downloaded file is not corrupt.
Get micro sd and use PC to format it to fat 32.
Extract the stock rom and find file with the name: RUU_signed.nbh. Rename it to: leoimg.nbh.
Turn off the phone (make sure battery at least 50% capacity), put your micro sd.
Now, press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON (don't release it), then press POWER ON button at the same time until white screen appear. Now, follow the on screen instruction.
If you succeed, check your spl by going into boot loader screen.
If your spl is other than spl 3.03, you can continue with next process. Installing SPL 3.03 HSPL.
Then, Do task 29. Then, flash radio 2.15.xx. Then install magldr 1.13.
All process can be done while in the boot loader screen.
If you succeed, you will be brought to mgldr screen. Select option no.5 (USB flasher) and press the green phone call button and connect it via USB, now run the NAND ANDROID you choose from your PC. If fails, retry the process from magldr screen and try different USB port. Also, make sure your anti virus, firewall, and Internet is turn off.
Good luck...
Thank you man, it worked!
I did everything you said and my phone is back up and running
Thanks!

Bricked or?

Hi there
I got an HD2 from a friend (he bought off ebay) and seems to just boot to the Tmobile sticking together logo and won't boot.
I don't think it charges as well...
there was no lines (radio?) at the bottom of the Sticking Together pink square screen...
is this phone bricked? or can I still flash a rom?
Ok try this, turn the phone off then hold the low volume botton n the power botton at the same time, n if it takes u to the bootloader then u r good, just search on how to install a rom of ur choise, good luck

Well the fact that it will even turn on means it is not bricked. A bricked HD2 will not even turn on the most it will do is flash tihe led light and vibrait a couple of times.
Follow the instructions of the above post and pull up bootloader, if bootloader comes up you can save the HD2. Depending on if you want to flash a official srock ROM or a custom ROM to the HD2 will dictate your next step.
If you want a official stock ROM then just download and flash the official update from T-Mobile.com just type in HTC HD2 update in the search box on the home page and you will find it. You will have to enter the IMEI number to download it wich you can find this number behind the battery. To flash it connect the HD2 to a computer via USB cable while in bootloader and wait for the serial in the white bar at the bottom of the bootloader screen to change to USB and the computer to show it recognizes the HD2 then run the update utility and follow all the on screen instructions.
If you want to flash a custom ROM as in custom Windows Mobile, NAND Andriod ROM, or Windows Phone 7 ROM then you will have to flash HSPL to the HD2. Download HSPL4 and flash 2.08 HSPL if hou want to flash a NAND Andriod ROM as MAGLDR only supports 2.08 HSPL. Or a Windows Phone 7 Rom, or flash 3.03 if you just want to flash a custom Windows Mobile ROM.
Now if you want a NAND Andriod ROM or Windows Phone 7 you will have to download MAGLDR and flash it to the HD2.
If you want a custom Windows Mobile ROM download the ROM of your choice and fladh it using the .exe or RUU wich ever one the ROM has. Note do all flashing of what I have previously mentioned via the method I mentioned before.
If you are wanting to flash a NAND Andriod ROM or Windows Phone 7 ROM then download the ROM of your coice and flash it using MAGLDR and the instructions of the ROM developer in thread for the ROM.
Now this is very important. I see from the picture you have a T-Mobile(TMOUS) HD2 so no matter what you do, do not flash a ROM with a radio version that reads like these 2.04.50.xx, 2.05.50.xx, or any radio that is x.xx.51.xx they will brick/kill a TMOUS HD2.

I would recommend flashing a stock T-Mobile ROM, since that appears to be the flavor of the phone. This will install the correct radio. Once the phone is working, continue as per normal for flashing the ROM. You will have to reinstall hardspl.

try this:
1) download your stock ROM.
2) put it on your SD card via a card reader, you want an .NBH file.
3) rename the file LEOIMG.NBH
4) make sure the phone is off, make sure your SD card is back in your phone.
5) hold down and power
6) it should go to a tri-color screen and say something about flashing the image, hit power to confirm
7) it should flash no problems.
MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT ROM FOR A TMOBILE US HD2
Have exactly the same problem with my friends phone.
Its a TMOUS and sticks on the same boot screen.
He screwed it up when trying to install Android NAND on it.
I can enter bootloader And I have managed to get rid of MAGLDR and CWM.
I have HSPL 3.03 installed on it, but when I try to install the latest ROM from TMOUS it fails at 8% and tells me that
'ERROR 290: INVALID COMMAND
This update Utility cannot be used for your PDA phone. Please check your update utility'
Tried copying the relevant file to the SD card and renaming it leoimg.nbh but the install fails HERE aswell with the error:
"RADIO_V2 - RSA Fail"
I managed to install an energyrom onto it, but it wouldnt go past the initial boot screen
Any help appreciated

Try running a Task 29 on your friends HD2. This willtotally clean out the NAND memory of the HD2 and reformat it, kinda sounds like that is what is needed to be done. He may have messed the NAND memory format up when he was trying to install the Andriod. You will have to reflash a Windows Mobile ROM after you run the Task 29 as it will not ha e a ROM on the phone then. You will not have to reflash HSPL cause it will not remove it.
It seems that the problem is RADIO related. I can task 29, and I can install The latest Energyrom, but I CANT install a radio.
There is no radio ON the phone at the minute it seems. When I try to do a radio install, it asks me if I want to go from version ' ' to the update I am using.
None of the installers see a radio on the phone, and trying to install the radio always fails at 96%. This would seem to be the same if I try to install the official TMOUS latest ROM with radio from SD Card. It fails at the radio install part.......
Maybe time for a new thread for this one.......

[Q] SERIOUSLY bricked my htc hd2

I tried installing MIUI andriod to my htc hd2, so followed the step. Wich is unlocking the phone, installing MAGLDR. but while installing magldr i forgot to activate active sync. so when i boot my phone, it's stuck on the first screen. all white and HTC written in then middle. i can access the tri-color screen(it says, SPL-2.08.HSPL).
i've tried to hard reset the phone, even that dident work.
what can i do to fix this problem?
thanks in advance
It's not bricked, you probably did not flash a radio that is capable of running MAGLDR.
Install a radio from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787 with .50 on the back on your HD2 in the tri-color screen as you tried with magldr, europe radios start with 2 (example Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14**) TMOUSE radios start with 15 (example Leo_RADIO_15.37.50.07U_2.10.50.08_2).
BE CAREFULL WITH THE RADIO, CHOOSE THE CORRECT ONE OR YOU WILL BRICK THE PHONE!!!
after that flash magldr again and it will work.
Ill try it, thanks!

[Q] No Bootloader Menu after reboot

Hi folks,
I tried to flash my HTC HD2 for the first time. Read /watched different guides. In first 2 steps they were all the same:
- install HSPL
- instal MAGLDR
Done both, got positive responses on both.
BUT: after rebooting after installing MAGLDR I do not manage to get the bootloader screen. There´s just a white screen with green htc logo on it and nothing else happens.
Yes, I held the power button after reboot; about 1 min long. Nothing.
If I hold volume down button after reboot the stripey screen appears like after the HSPL installation. But there is also no menu.
Also tried to proceeed task29 with the HD2 Android NAND Toolkit. Got positive response there too and after this I begann from scratch. With the same results.
Does anyone have a clue what I made wrong or forgot?
Or a hint what to do now?
best regards
M.
What version hspl n magldr?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
and radio,
hspl MUST be 2.08.hspl ONLY
radio MUST be 2.xx.50.xx
Got hspl version 2.08.hspl from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
got MAGLDR version 1.13 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893618
cant remember the full radio version but I checked it before starting and it fits to requirements.
But I´m a few steps forward...
Meanwhile I flashed the newest Original HTC HD Win Mobile 6.5 ROM so phone boots up again
After that I installed HSPL version 2.08.0000 (now I know that was a failure) an tried again to install MAGLDR. But the progress bar doesn´t move - neither on PC nor on phone...
So I first will try to install again HSPL like samsamuel said and try again with MAGLDR
[EDIT]
Radio Version is now 2.15.50.14
SOLVED

the only regular hd2 stock rom that includes a magldr compatible radio is 3.14, so if the ''old rom'' you flashed was any other version, it will have also flashed a non magldr radio, which is why it happened. (I suspect).

the same problem
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Just white screen with green HTC mark.
But I'm not shure how to flesh win mobile again, because I cannot connect my HTC HD2 via USB (PC doesn't recognise the phone).

Could you please post links and steps to help myself and anyone else looking on how to fix this?

Thank you.

[Q] Tmous or Eu? need help

Dear Dev's / members
I have problem with this HD2 and cannot find a solution yet!
first thing first. is this a Tmobile of Eu mobile?
i tried flashing factory RUU but after 1% it gives an error saying Radio failed.
tried flash quite a few radio's but still after 100% it says radio fail.
tried flashing from USB cable
tried flashing from SD with leoimg.nbh
no luck.
the guy was using android on it until yesterday. may be he tried to flash a wrong Rom which brick the phone. now only white screen appears.
i can go to bootloader mode but no luck in flashing any thing at all.
Looks like EU model as no logo near earpiece.
if also has white markings on call & end key that would help confirm EU.
If trying to install .nbh file from SD it will overwrite HSPL so check current SPL status in bootloader.
If still on HSPL 2.08 try flashing an NRG WM6.5 ROM & see what happens (they have no radio so if completes then try radio flash if needed, try via USB them SD if USB fails.
Do you get an error code when it fails via RUU ?
thanks for helping mr. B
the error i get is (270) and yes it have white markings on all the buttons. so its confirm EU model. by NRG rom you mean Energy Roms? i tried earlier the energy Rom but no luck. after 1% it gives error.
cannot try mtty method as i'm on windows 7 and in windows 7, it's not showing the USB port. it's radio is corrupted. i think someone must have flashed a wrong Rom.
What standard ROM have you got ? if it a 3.14 rom try connecting HD2 via USB & use HSPL4 toolkit to install HSPL 3.03 & if that installs then try the 3.14 ROM via USB & RUU.
Also eliminate simple issues such as lead & USB port by switching port & using a different USB lead.
Windows 7 64bit ? worth trying another PC & 32bit if can as WMDC drivers on 64bit can be a pain for flashing ...
windows 7 32bit. tried flashing hspl 4 and it says complete but in bootloader it shows 2.08 only. i guess gold card method will solve the problem but it's too complicated. any other suggestions?
i would search for task29 and format the phone back to virgin default then download a windows rom from htc via the downloads page on there website for the phone ,then if it works re task29 it then put android on it with the htc hd2 tool kit witch has every thing other than rom (all u need to do is task29 it then go back to the boot loader and run the ruu rom)

No do not run a Task 29 the device. I say this for two reasons, one if you flash the Stock Windows Mobile ROM via RUU the RUU will run a Task 28 before installing the ROM witch is pretty much the same as a Task 29. The second reason is that if you run a Task 29 it will remove the current ROM on the device so it will not have a working ROM anymore. If after the Task 29 you can not get another ROM installed on it the you will not be able to use the device at all anymore.
why not he thinks its bricked so there is no difference if he cant get a rom on it

No the device is not bricked, a bricked device will not even turn on at all, no vibrations no nothing.
At jacktackle, try to find the earliest stock Rom RUU for your HD2 and try to flash it. It is possible you have what is reffered to as a stuck radio. The only fixI have seen for this is to flash a older ROM version with a older SPL version. If the earliest ROM version does not work start working your way up one version at a time and you might get lucky and get one that will flash.
thanks for all the help guys. but nothing worked. tried flashed old ruu's but reboots at 1% this radio is screwed up. hspl 2.08 is not upgrading nor downgrading. sd card update not working. i guess thats it. will give it back to him so that he can showcase it
first time ever i'm un successful. bad luck! may this LEO rest in peace. 'amen'

Before you give it back you can find some of the old test ROMs for the EU or for the TMOUS depending on which version of the HD2 it is. Just make sure if it is a TMOUS that you do not flash a rom version that has a 51 radio with it. Just look at the RUU name and the radio version is in the name. If that does not work then the only fix will be to replace the mainboard cause JTAG would not fix the problem.
