Ok so im not posting this to be flammed or anything but more just to vent and for some opinions. But im really starting to get irritated with android and it's inability to come out with update in a timely manner, and i understand that alot has to do with the carrier to having to test it . But when you have all these android phones being made by 10 different manufacturers with really no limitations so they can all make there own flavor of android with different ui skins and, screen res, processors, file systems... etc. It is ridiculous cause there can't just be one kind of froyo nope , now there is froyo with sense , and touchwiz froyo, and for all the other different kinds of custom manufacturers skins that are thrown in. Which in my opinion makes it really difficult to be able to keep up with updates in a timely manner, and then on top of that samsung releases the fascinate that is supposed to get upgraded to froyo but instead of trying to get that pushed out they get the galaxy tab out with froyo hmmmm why not the fascinate no one knows and now the nexus s gets pushed out with gingerbread but what was that once again no froyo out for the fascinate i hope i am making sense with all this. Anyways as soon as Vzw get a WP7 phone that i like or the iphone 4 im leaving android, mainly for a smoother os and one that isn't so open that updates never happen. I would like some opinions on if im just impatient or if my whole venting session does make some sense to anyone, and if anyone agrees and is thinking the same as i am.
Ahhhhh i feel better... kinda

Oh believe and that is why i do like android but maybe its just i get bored with a device to easily, this is my 4th android device this year lol. But the whole long periodsof time to get updates to fix bugs is getting to the point i just want something new, cause i love the fascinate and im gonna keep it for a backup/toy just feel the need for something new. Android just isn't cutting it for me anymore.
I love Android and the Fascinate in general and I think this whole 2.2 froyo update thing has blown absurdly out of overrated proportion! Yes 2.2 will be cool but alot of people are thinking it's going to be the awesome of all awesomes but it isn't? Aside from flash and app2sd there isn't a whole lot to speak about (thats going to be directly noticeable anyhow IMO)? Now, the Samsung Slow to no update record is another thing but we will have to see how that aspect plays out!

Agreed froyo isn't all that great i know i had it on 2 other devices just the fact of this device should have it. But very much agreed
Do you really think that new iPhone or Windows device you get will update to a new OS within a few months of its release? The only difference is that you start with lower expectations for Windows or the iPhone.
I Think your Just Fed up With waiting for an update that Probably wont be out for a bit longer. Watch if you Switch devices after a while your gonna come crawling back! they always Do!....On Another Note I Want Froyo for Jit and Flash so I could watch Videos online. Would be Nice >,< and Facebook games LOL!

Sounds like a classic case of spoiled brat syndrome to me. Get a job, quit having your mommy and daddy pay for your little toys and you'll appreciate the phone(s) more.
87jason I came from an iphobe 4 to verizon because of the superior service. I ended up getting the fascinate. I can say also there is nothing that android can do that Iphone doesn't do better. A jailbroken iphone ofcourse.
Themes, widgets, apps iphone wins hands down. There is no denying it. Oh and yes I said widgets.
One phone, once a year... no headaches or worries is something better out. The phone came out in June and still no phone is better hardware wise. Except the gpu is galaxy s is a bit better. But what's the point when there are ZERO APPS.
WAIT FOR IPHONE I AM
I think its more that the fascinate didn't sell well for verizon so them nor samsung are that worried about it. Sux but coming from a flagship like the droid was it had updates all the time but it use to be the big dog.

For all the reasons you want out are the reasons I will always have a android phone.
My next phone will be on Verizon, dual core, front facing cam, android and a Motorola device (unlocked).

Nope. The "unlocked" part is one reason I went with the Fascinate. I just hope that Froyo gets here soon, so that the development scene can pick up more.
I have had the atrix since launch. Its been replaced 2 times since i got it. I wanna like it. But, I came from the n1. I never got why ppl *****ed so much about android fragmentation. Well now I get it. We have a Outdated OS os on a brand new phone, Some apps don't even work from the market becasue of the dual core. We have a locked bootloader still just like the DX.
This has now driven me back to the iPhone witch ironicly feels like a more open platform.
The DX bootloader has not been cracked and neither will this.
Thanks Moto... THANKS FOR NOTHING. Android may be open but only on a pure Google phone. I say we all boycott anything but pure Google experienced.

LMAO don't be so mellow dramatic.
The OS isn't outdated, it's just not on the bleeding edge of technology with the absolute latest update, my friend. Speaking of bleeding, what's so important and missing from the Atrix that's making your tampon leak all over the place?
If you want to switch to an iPhone, that's all right. We have a great Android community and we all love our Atrix's despite it's minor flaws. No phone is perfect. But it seems like you should genuinely consider sticking to just the Google flagship handsets if you're going to complain so much.
LOL. Good, one less whiner around here.

this phone has been out for a lil over a month and your complaining already? Really??? if you don't like the the device just move on, go back to your N1 that has to be rooted and fully modded just to barely reach half of the power that the Atrix has, there's a difference between constructive criticism and ignorance.....i wish people would quit whining about the bootloader on this phone and actually give it a chance, and be patient while the devs are working on it, what if root never existed??? what would u do then?
In my "opinion" if root never existed, we wouldn't have these complaints about the atrix, and they would realize that it's the most powerful phone to date and possibly this year, think about it motorola set a trend with the atrix, the first dual core phone so now every other company is gonna hop on the bandwagon, so give moto some credit at least

i cant say i agree with most of the post but i do agree with the locked bootloader. right now jailbroken iphone's seem to have more freedom than this device. I love it and with the exception of the camera and the bootloader, i really wouldnt change a thing.
but most of us come from a truly rooted device and flashing roms to suit our own needs. Maybe im just spoiled with android's freedom.
Well I'm back on my n1 not by choice... you guys whining on att have nothing to complain about AT ALL. The bell atrix is really nothing special without sbf or the update... its a tad quicker its a bit smoother but honestly I need an ATT model to even compare.

i can from a epic 4g and a hero and to say the truth i was tried of flashing all different kinds of crap all the time to just make it work.
all that has gone away with the atrix it just great
but i personally think i might get an iphone after my atrix because i have never had one just because i am tired of android because its all the same
it would be a lie if i said i havent been tempted to sell my atrix while the resale value is fairly high. But there are no phones that compete with everything this phone has to offer...
-best battery life ever by far
-amazing screen
-speaker is the best i have had on a phone
-one very important thing nobody seems to have mentioned is the back cover! Anyone notice that the whole back and corners of the phone are covered by a cover that can be purchased from the store??? GREATEST IDEA EVER!!
-once launcher pro is installed UNCHECK the high quality scrolling and the home screens absolutely fly with no lag ever
-i have a 16gb sd card and the phone comes with another 16!
-future proof for the most part
-the notification bar NEVER lags which is much more than i can say for pretty much every android device i have owned
-hdmi output is surprisingly usefull
Whatever lag is noticable is likely due to everything not being optimized for dual core and this high level of screen resolution(like lwp)
I love my Atrix and am patient enough to wait for the boot loader. Some people will say this and that about the Atrix but let's be realistic our phone is just as powerful as a netbook, that's awesome lol

I bought the G2x on 4/20 when I came out, I did the payment agreement, where I pay it off it 2 years IR whatever, but I think I still have the option of a 30 day return?
Because I'm seriously considering the Galaxy S 2 almostly purely because I love that the screen takes up most of the phone, rather than the G2x. I also really like the 1gb ram.
It has pretty much everything that my G2x has that I would want.
-Dual Core processor
- 4" + screen
- 8mp camera with LED flash
- HDMI output and recording
I know the huge issue people have with Samsung is the software, but if ROMS come out, which I'm sure they will, then it wouldn't be an issue then?
Something I read online e is that it wont be good for games. Games I play would be like N64 emulator, fruit ninja, doodle jump, robot defense. Would games like that be fine? If so what kind of games are we talking about?
I need a little help in my decision.
I'm also on T-Mobile, so..it would help to know if it is coming out for T-Mobile or would support their 4G bands unlocked?

I know the huge issue people have with Samsung is the software,
You would have to clarify that i have no problem with stock SGS 1 or SGS 2 firmware and prefer touchwiz
but if ROMS come out,
Roms will come out and the phone will be more customizable than stock .
A the devs need to buy or be donated phones and b find time to work on them .
You need to sort out what these issues are for you rather than others .

I had the Optimus X2 which is the same phone just what its called in the UK and have now got the Galaxy S2 and I am glad I sold it, the phone isn't as good as the GS2.
1080P recording on the X2 isn't in the same league as the GS2, its only 24fps and isn't smooth and has no focus of any kind which is rather poor, the one big advantage the x2 has is it has a unlocked boot loader so is much easier to get custom roms out on.
Can't advise you on the gaming side as I am not interested in it, only play the odd game of Angry Birds from time to time but the UK and USA versions of the GS2 use the Exynos processor clocked at 1.2Ggz, and as you said 1gig ram is a big bonus.
People only really have issues with TouchWiz on the GS2 and lets be honest the LG launcher is such a copy of TouchWiz it looks identical but I use launcher pro anyway, another thing is the internet browser on the GS2 is really really good, I personally use a different browser to the stock one but its super smooth can handle full flash enabled all the time and never gets jerky like it does on the x2.

Ive read only positive stuff about the screen and battery. My only concern is gaming as the phone seems to be not compatible with a lot of games. but i guess this will change once this device is available on more markets.

There are two large threads with WiFi and GPS issues. Not a single user but multiple users. Look? I want this phone, badly, but my confidence is shaken at the current price with these issues.
Alright so the Play has always interested me ever since Verizon got i but I never bought it because there was nothing to do with it root wise, so I've just been waiting and checking this forum weekly to see how it progresses. And from what I understand there is now a fully working ROM (FTS) and an overclockable kernel (dooms). Correct?
Also, and be honest with your answers and unbiased please,
Would you guys recommend getting this phone coming from an Epic 4G on sprint?
Thanks in advance for your humble opinions.
If you want a gaming phone this is it. Hands down. However unless your planning on playing a ton of games the epic 4g is very nice as well. if I was you I'd stick with your phone and wait for a new xperia play model.
Edit: I might have misunderstood your question ... if your switching providers and need a new phone anyways the xperia play is a great phone. Its a bit thick with the slider but fits comfortably in my pocket. Sure its not dual core but I find it plenty fast. Haven't played with the epic 4g but its similar to a galaxy s right? I gave my galaxy s to my girlfriend and kept this play

I see I see.
I've been thinking about switching to verizon ever since I got sprint because theirs horrible signal at my house but I've just been using wifi and not calling people in my house because there was no phone on verizon that caught my eye, till the Play came than I checked the Dev support on it and there wasn't much for the r800x so I held off. Just interested me again when I saw it finally got some dev and user love recently.
And yeah the Epic is more or less the Fascinate just with a front camera and keyboard.
Would ya say the play is better than the fascinate? Guessing that's the one you meant you gave your girl.
The fascinate doesn't really compete with the play; its a year old phone that has samsung is poor at supporting.
Yes, there is a root+overclocking kernal however keep in mind that none of that is stable at this point. People are just getting comfortable having root and trying different methods and ROMS so it's going to be a month or so before theres a simple, straight-forward solution.
As far as other phones on Verizon, honestly I would say the bionic is the only other phone to consider. 4G is the only thing that the play is missing compared to other devices since dual core processors aren't support in Android 2.3.
It really comes down to what you want to do on your phone at the end of the day. The play is capable of doing the same tasks as any other phone on verizon (outside of 4G data) with very minor performance differences. On top of that you get the full physical controls, stereo speakers, and 150+ games to go with it. However, if your gaming on your phone doesn't venture outside of Angry Birds, then there's no point in having the play. If you don't game, it will be easy to find a phone that's thinner and has a better camera (camera on the play is just fine just nothing to brag about).
At the end of the day you have 30 days to decide if you want to keep the phone with verizon or not. They'll charge you a $50 restocking fee if you return it but honestly if you care about gaming I would get the play first. If you find that you don't use it enough or something sticks out to you that you don't like, you'll still be able to return it and reselect a different phone.
Whatever you choose do not, I repeat DO NOT get a Droid x2. My roomate and his girlfriend both got one at launch and have had nothing but problems.

Thanks a lot for the info,
I'm on my girls fascinate at the moment and I personally dont like thin phones because I have long hands and phones like this just don't feel as comfy as my fat epic with a case on It lol.
Im definitely leaning toward the play, only thing I'm kicking myself in the arse about now is not getting it sooner, before verizon got rid of the damn unlimited plan

Honestly the unlimited data isn't a big deal for me. If I have to download a large game or file I usually do it over Wifi anyway. I could see it being an issue though if you stream media a lot.

Are you sure you'll get Verizon signal at your house? Sometimes Sprint and Verizon will share the same towers.
Anyways, I am loving my Play right now. I am currently playing Minecraft
Check out my youtube channel if you wanna see how the Play handles games and emulation
http://www.youtube.com/user/hairdewx
Ya, for me I'd much rather have the Play then the Galaxy S. I'm coming from a phone that didn't have flash for the camera and really like that feature. Plus it still has a light indicator flashing when i have a missed call or message which to me is a must - the Galaxy S up here (Captivate I think?) doesn't have that.
I'm up in Canada so don't know how Verizon's selections of phones are, but from the sounds of it the Play is the phone to get from what I'm seeing listed. Definitely get into a store and play around with a few tho to make sure you like it's feel.
Best of luck in your decision
Thank you for all the info guys.
One last question though, hows themeing coming along for the r800x?
I do my own themes on my epic so its customizing the look of the phone is a hobby of mine. It doesn't seem that's possible on the 800x?

You can adb into it and it got rooted and the bootloader cracked so I would say it's open for modding The splashscreen is not that easy to change but with some work it should be doable. Then you got the UOT kitchen.

Don't know about if anyone has used a r800x framework/sustemUI .apk with UOT kitchen. Is the file structure of a cdma device to a gsm that different? I mean the framework and such. Isn't that the same on the device's.
If you upload your own framework/sustemUI .apk's it should work the same as when I do it.
Regards Dousan.

Best advice is to go into a phone shop and have a play around with the demo devices and see what you like. There are loads of phones especially from HTC who seem to be releasing a new phone every week.
Galaxy Note or Nexus. Xperia ones are nice. But I dont trust Sony Ericsson..
Galaxy Nexus! After all its pure Google phone
If you want something different you should consider the Nokia N9. I've only tried it briefly in shop, but my god it's gorgeous.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium

You don't need a phone, then! You need something different! Any other phone is going to be just too simmilar to your SGS2 (which I think you should seriously reconsider fixing). Try an Open Pandora (Google it! I can't post links!), it's the closest coolest thing I can think of!
Just go buy an iPhone. You're asking if there's a better alternative to one of the best Android phones around? pfffft....our phone is a software upgrade away from being a better phone than a galaxy nexus (apart from that massive screen ofc...).
I personally think after windows 8 is released and the windows 8 tablets start flooding the market with metro ui windows phone is going to get a lot more popular too as a result. I'm waiting to see what happens but I might make the switch.
Right now i would not recommend anything for android. If you want a whole new experience, try WP7 or meego.

+1 to this.
In fact I am eying for WP 7 or furthers as my future OS. I like Microsoft and their work. If everything goes well WP will be the mostly used and popular OS within next 3-4 years.
For me it would be the Galaxy Note, it does everything the G-Nexus does, but better. All it needs is ICS. Personally I think the 5" screen is great, especially for films which I already use my GS2 for a lot.

I agree that Mango is the best mobile OS right now, but I'm not planning to replace my SGS2 any time soon. The fact is that the android ecosystem is just a lot stronger right now, everything from ROM development to app choices. ICS also looks like it makes some important strides from a quality-of-OS standpoint (though I have yet to put my hands on a Galaxy Nexus myself), so hopefully in a few months we'll see those benefits rolled into our GS2s.
I hope you're right and Windows Phone has greater traction in 3-4 years, and if it keeps going the way it's going, I may buy a windows handset in a couple years. Microsoft is still awful at marketing, though, and if average smartphone buyers know that there is something besides iPhone available, they probably have only heard of android, or maybe knew some guy who hated Windows Mobile five years ago. They've got a lot of hurdles to clear; we'll see how it goes.
To the OP: This has probably already been said to death, but the only GSM android phone that can be argued to be better than the SGS2 is the Galaxy Nexus right now. If you just want something different, I know a lot of people who like the RAZR, or you could always go for the monster of a phone that is the Note.
Having owned a nexus (ok only for a few days) i would say that the SGS2 is the better phone. Yes the Nexus has ICS and a nice screen but you are limited with Flash (ok it will come), no radio and mainly storage. I just cant live with non expandable phones with only 16gb on board. Maybe in a few months if and when the 32gb version of the nexus comes along and they have fixed flash but not now.
As shr33kant said, the SGS2 is one update (ICS) away from being a totally better phone than the Nexus.
Maybe the Note is the way forward. I have been toying with the idea myself. The screen would be massive for Video. And by the way i didnt really see / feel a difference in screen size between the SGS2 and Nexus, not sure why i didnt but i didnt.
Hope this helps.
Either the SGN or the Razr. I'd go for the latter if i were you, it seems so durable and premium...

He'll probably get board with that, so to make it interesting he has to make a random choice between 6 'chutes. One of them has a chute but no connection ropes.
Ha ha, Russian roulet sky diving!
