Getting Edge network where I used to get H+ before - Atrix 4G General

Sitting at the same place where I have performed speed tests on the H+ network, but now the phone only shows "E" with 4 bars. Then suddenly it will switch to H+ with 4 bars (actually did it right now), and then might switch back to Edge...
Any ideas what could cause this? I even did a factory restore and haven't made any APN modifications.
Just as I was typing this, H+ went down to one bar, then disconnected and switched to Edge...

Low Batt to EDGE and can't go back to 3G?

Ok so when I'm youtubing at night and I get the low batt alert, I plug my charger in and goto bed. Then when I wake up in the monring I see E and can't seem to change it back to 3G without a soft reset. I even tried turning off data and turning it back on. Another thing, seen on some websites that there is a firmware upgrade for the X1a but when I try to upgrade it says mine is up to date but I haven't upgraded my firmware yet.
3g and E has to do with "phone", not "data connection". Try going to your comm manager and turning "phone" off and on again
Doesn't "E" stand for EDGE since all the other data connection letters are there
like H for HSDPA and G for GPRS
That's right.
"E" is Edge and this is the data connection when no "H" HSDPA or "3G" UMTS is available. That's no problem with the phone, just your network reception.
Exactly. It happens here often.
I kno that E means no 3G...but the thing is it wont go back to 3G when I do have 3G because when I disable data connection and enable it again it says connecting to Fido 3G but its still stuck on EDGE so I have to do a soft reset to get it back on 3G.

weak signal?

Is your signal very weak? One or no bars here where I had 2 or 3 with the hero on Vodafone uk
I had the same issue except it would only pick up edge instead of 3g. My g1 would have full bars and the nexus would be edge. I called HTC and had no help. Finally I manually selected T-Mobile as my network. Then it switched to 3g. I still randomly switch to edge if I use wifi or reboot. I hope there is an update soon that takes care of it.

[Q] Sporadic Signal Loss

Okay so i've got an aria rooted and flashed with the Liberated 2.2 rom. I've been using it for the past 3 months and I've noticed that I will go from full service while a phone call is comming in and complete signal loss when I answer it. I have set the phone on a table and watched the network signal strength go from -113 dBm and 0asu to -81 dBm and 16asu and vise versa. I have also noticed that when I lose signal my "H" for the data goes with it and service comes back a few seconds later very strong but showing "G". From there it will go to "E" then back to "H".
Could anyone explain this or have a better reason as to why this is happening? Maybe its just based on the connection where I live but I've used the app Antennas and the tower is about 1/3 mile away.
Any info or help would be awesome
Thanks
i'm not sure why this would happen outside of a poor bit of service where you're living.
i used the various roms for the aria and never had any sort of service loss issue.
as far as the icons switching around, e = edge network (2g), h = hspa (3g). when your phone drops its connection, it tries to reconnect as fast as possible, usually with edge, then after its strong it looks for the 3g connection.

Only using data/internet with 'H' or 'H+', not 3G

Something strange I've noticed with my Galaxy S II is that data / internet will only work if the 'H' (for HSDPA) is in the status bar, but not with '3G' there...the green arrow will appear next to the 3G when I try to connect to something but it will just time out unless it happens to switch to 'H'.
Anyone know why this would be? Is only the HSDPA network working with my phone, but regular 3G won't?
It is possible that the 3G cells in your area are fully loaded with users.

nvm
i didn't read it well
Same problem here, on 3.
Wondered if it was the phone or the network! If it's a problem with the phone it'll be fixable/covered by warranty though, right?
Same here, it sits on 3g then i try to load a page etc and it goes to h like it carnt use 3g , im on t mobile and they have full coverage where i am

I found an older thread that says it's a feature, keeping the phone in 3G mode to save battery until you do something that requires data which switches it over to H. I've kept a closer eye on my phone and that does seem to be what it's doing, usually taking a second or two to switch over each time I use data.
However, there have still been some times where it stays on 3G and is unable to load data.
Yeah i think your right and also it does not change sometimes and kinda hangs, be nice for it to switch over to H abit faster without battery drain.

I have the same issue with my phone to on t-mobile, not working on 3g then working on H.
It is a right pain to be honest.
No way of stopping this battery save? I would rather use more battery.
It's the network. I have no explanation but only Edge and HSDPA work whether on Samsung or Nokia.
Just tested, this does not occur for me, at least right here, right now. Comfortably loading pages on Google with just 3G signal (T-Mobile UK).
It's faster when I stand on my bed upstairs for HSDPA but 3G does work. Stock firmware from T-Mob, no modifications.

Hey mate,
I have the galaxy s i9000, with optus here in sydney. same problem, only switches to "H" when i make some sort of data request (load a page, open an app that uses internet), it takes a couple of seconds to switch from 3G to H. Sometimes, it keeps flicking back and forth between 3G and H like its having problems connecting to H
I complained to optus, they reckon i'm lying. Go figure.

Sorry.. just to add on, i've tried about 13 different modems on my i9000 and it happens with all of them.
The only fix I've come by? dial *#301279# and disable HSDPA altogether thats the only way my phone will actually load any data on 3G
I have the same thing, but as i understand H and H+ are the highest form of 3G, not a different thing. So I am wondering what mode we are in when 3G appears. UMTS?
Its all very annoying to be honest.
None of my other phones have this problem as they always stay on HSPDA
Same problem here to the extent that pages fail to load on 3g and come up with the error then when I refresh the page once its on H it loads straight away.
Actually this problem is making my phone more or less not usable.
I use the slingplayer alot, keeps skipping on the Galaxy S II as it seems to keep switching between H and 3G.
Put the sim card into my ZTE Blade (Orange San Francisco) and streams constantly with no problem with signal staying on H.
With all the threads relating to 3g and connectivity issues..we can deduce that SGS2's modem really sucks big time..and still no firmware update to correct this even though large number of people is facing some sort of problem with mobile internet which is a main function on todays smartphone.

Anyone know who to e-mail with examples at Samsung?
I guess they won't fix a problem if they don't realise there is one.
Some people will prefer longer battery when its on 3G then H, others will want the constant H.
I got mine a week after it released. The first two updates mine did the same thing, but instead of timing out, it would drop all signal and display the circle. After a reboot signal would come back. From KE7, it has not done it again.
AT&T in the U.S.
same problem, mode switches around when using data, 3 australia

Stuck on GSM/GPRS network

Anyone else have issues where the phone gets stuck on GSM/GPRS? Today in few places the phone has showed GPRS and been really slow/not connecting to internet at all even though I know for certain there is HSPA available (places where my old GNex was always on H+). It takes some twiddling in the settings to get the G2 back to H or 3G. Usually if I force it to CDMA I get H with full bars even though just a moment ago the phone was stuck on GPRS. If I set the phone back to GMS/CDMA/LTE it usually works normally on HSPA again. But if I pass an area where the phone goes to G it will be stuck there.
Oh and is there some kinda H+ icon.. if there is I've never seen it even though my GNex showed it.
I like the phone's speed and slim size with big display. Not too keen on the LG bloatware. Waiting for Cyanogen or some other stock'ish ROM
