Hello.i am getting horrific battery life coming from my radio..the phone seems to struggle with signal in places where all other phones excel..in my house i get full signal, but if i go 1 floor down it suddently drops all signaland have to wait 15 minutes to get it back..i have tried jve, jvk, jpy and pretty much all european radios..
my location is athens greece and my provider is vodafone..i wouldnt mind it so much if it were only speed drops on 3g (whihch is not the case, i get great dl speeds in good signal areas), but this way it kills my battery..im losing 12% on standby during night time without any data connections on..
p.s it is not app/rom related , i have checked multiple times with spare parts/juice plotter and i have no wakelock issues..
rom : darky's 9.5
kernel : speedmod latest
current radio : jve
i have exactly the same thing, in 3g/hsdpa the battery goes down like hell even if i have no data transfers, wi-fi is crappy also very weak reception comparing to iphone 4, in the same network (vodafone romania) iphone 4 will get about 2 days of standby in 3g network while galaxy s has 8-10 h with about the same amount of usage, galaxy s is a very good phone on paper put in real life it is not even half as good as iphone 4. and i'm sorry for that.

lol yes...and i am use to cm7 g2 battery life that can go as far as 4% idle consumption /24 hours..this is really frustrating..if it were dependant to my usage i could deal with it,but this is just plain ridiculous..
Try jq1 modem.Good battery life and signal.Heraklion Crete

will try..thanks.
Tried jq1 too...signal was fine , but gps performace was very bad compared to jve..

One reason that we all are having pretty different battery time (it seems so) maybe could be the reception. I talked with Samsung support a while ago and they said that it drains more battery if the telephone constantly are seeking for reception. I myself have noticed that my bars are jumping up and down most of the time. And my battery lasts for about 24 hours (not using the phone extremely much). This is was the supportguy said:
"It could be the simcard that constantly are seeking for better reception, then it will drain extra battery and this can't be affected by a setting in the phone or so."
What do you think about this? The question is what to do about it...
I think that it's not new and it's true for all the phone ...
If the reception is bad the phone will increse the power of the antenna to get a signal and will drain the battery
Nothing to do in order to avoid this ...
If you have the problem with an other phone and the same simcard , the guy of Samsung is partially right ( I find it is an easy way to explain the relatively poor battery)
Now if the problem is that the 3G network is weak and the 2G good ... you can switch off the 3G so it won't go from 3G to 2G ... which could also drain the battery I guess
Just installed JuiceDefender and I am now getting ALOT better battery life. I also don't think signal effects it because I am in a low signal area. One underneath on the widget is time since last unplugged, and you can see in notifications area the %'age of battery. Have been playing music, browsing internet ect, just using it moderately.

Best record so far before getting down to 10% battery life is 25 hrs 48 minutes.
Sheeeiit. I'm lucky to get a full 12 hours on a single charge. So far. Only been through three full battery cycles so far.
2 days without problems.
Surfing, calling, WiFi, playing games, camera.
With really heavy usage like massive calling and browsing, it's was drained in one day.
Not long ago, first day low usage (FM radio, a bit od camera usage, couple of calls), lasted three days with 20% left.
nahhh ... i guess u r using a Mugen Power 3200mAh extended battery
otherwise impossible ..
wat firmware, rom, lagfix , progs are u using that gets u near to the end of the second day??
The biggest battery killer is 3G. Turn it off when you don't need it and you'll get quite nice battery life boost even without installing annoyances like Juice Defender. With 3G, my battery lasts hardly a day of light usage. On 2G, I can get two, maybe three days of light usage. Most of the time I don't need the 3G speed anyway, 2G is fast enough for a lot of things.
You might also try deleting battery stats and/or leaving the phone to turn itself off and then letting it charge until it tells you it's fully charged (you may turn it on after you've connected it to the charger, but not before that!). That way you'll calibrate the battery meter to your battery capacity properly, so it won't lie to you.
Oh yeah, and contrary to battery theory and logic, your battery WILL improve quite a bit after a week or two. Three cycles is not enough. Just be patient, give it time.
how do you switch from 3G to 2G? noob here.
Settings, Wireless, Mobile networks, Network mode - GSM only is 2G only. WCDMA is 3G.

Stock battery, G7.
You can see in my signature which ROM I am using, it's stock JG5 with no lagfix.
First couple of days since I bought it, I was very disappointed about battery life (previous HTC Touch HD lasted 2-3 days).
I came so far that I set wallpaper to black and even then it didn't last much more than one day. After some time battery life extended and it became quite better, even with Nexus live wallpaper.
3G is OFF in my case, I am mostly on WiFi when I need connection, but GPRS / EDGE are always ON.
I use 3g and battery is ok unless I play games.easily last 2 or 3 days on standby with a few short call s
1h Or 2 With games lol
I have quite bad 3G reception at home, living out of town.
At work it's ok, but I rarely need 3G so there's no problem.

Part of this depends on how your carrier acts. If I turn off 3G it means I can't use data, I can't sync etc. Sync & applications launching and background data is a bigger battery drain...multiples higher than 3G in my guess. EDITAccording to GSM arena, my 2G/3G talk time was way off, but I think their data is old. I'll remove it for now and replace it with "Up to 750 h (2G) / Up to 576 h (3G)"...it's not sooo much the network as what is going on when you might be connected to that network.
edit 2 GSM arena seems to have the most recent info, I thought they were approximating this from their test units.
Just fyi for those unaware.... Bell is a 3G only network, nationwide. You can't disable 3g on Bell and still have data.

I'm also using Juicedeffender and my battery live improved a lot. Now I can run the phone 24-30h without charging.
After reading up on many many posts on different battery life reports and different setups, I decided to play around with my HD 2 again and tried a different approach. You see, in common real world situations, a phone in GSM mode always, always save more battery than in 3G during standby. So all this while when my phone is on pure GSM the battery lasts only 10 hours even on standby, I decided to go against all laws and switch on 3G even though my spare SIM has no data plan...
so as of now after more than 12 hours on standby, the battery bar is still full... I am quite amazed/shocked that the battery eating bug is really caused by GSM mode, here is my setup,
3G on (reception is 3 bars, this is true 3G reception in my area, not roaming)
Data on (but sim has no data plan)
Phone on standby so display is hardly on
Phone is stationary and will not be moving around for my tests
I will report again after 48 hours of stationary tests

thanks for the post, did not realise someone else has found the perfect solution... I must have been away from my HD 2 for far too long lol
Any Singapore users here with rooted/custom ROM'd S2 still experiencing heavy battery drain with fairly normal usage (occasional web browsing and playing games, maybe 3-5 photos - battery dead in less than 8 hours?).
I've noticed that here in SG, my 3G signal keeps on going off and on, as if the phone is constantly trying to reconnect to a 3G signal (SingTel has been pretty bad for me, especially while walking around town). I've turned it off to 2G only and my battery seems to have improved.
Anyone else in SG have suggestions on how to improve battery life?
Although old thread, for anyone who like to have an app to auto toggle 3G in a set interval check this review:

3G is the suspect zero!!!
3G is definitely the suspect zero for your battery drain....

Im from SG dude my phone can last for 16hours with 3h-4h screen on. Its pretty decent. Change your modem. Im on LPX. Dont use FB app if you are using one. Its a huge battery drainer. Use BBS to find out what else is keeping your phone awake/draining your battery.

How the heck you get so good battery life O_O max for me with UV and UC is 14hrs 2.5hrs screen time.................... If you are on stock rom then that is also a suspect, Official 4.0.3 has horrible battery life
Im on RootBox JB by Bajee and Dream Kernel 2.7

Any one else notice better battery life on lte vs wifi? I'm on 4.4.2 but it has always been like this since I got 4g where I live. On my wifi at home I get about 3 hours screen on time(I even have it set to turn wifi off when screen is off) , vs on 4g I'm getting about 5 to 6 hours screen on time
On lte I get anywhere between 5 to 15Mb down(depending on time of day) and wifi I get about 17Mb down, I know that doesn't matter just saying anyways
Been testing my battery life for weeks and wasn't using wifi when testing lte and vice versa except when the screen was off it would revert to lte, before I got 4g where I am battery life was horrible on 3g. Maybe 2 hours screen on time and my gs4 would get hot
Anyways just seems odd that lte is more efficient than wifi so I don't even use wifi unless Sprint is having network problems.
Thanks for reading my crap lol

Ever since I've gotten reliable LTE at home I never turn on wifi. I only use wifi when I'm in a poor signal building. My battery has never been better since going LTE all the time.
well that baffles me
i thought LTE takes the most juice
i for one always get much longer battery use if im on wifi all day instead of LTE

maybe its based on the signal quality
I get much better battery life on wifi, lte sucks some battery! you're getting 5-6hrs screen time on lte? stock battery? most I saw was a little over 5hrs on mostly wifi

It has to do with your signal strength. A strong LTE signal is much better than a weak Wifi signal. Beyond that, the Wifi DTIM interval can theoretically have an effect on your battery life. If you have a router that allows you to change some advanced settings or are running DD-WRT or Tomato, you can try raising the DTIM interval to maybe 3 or 5m which should improve your Wifi battery life.

Stock battery, guess I got really good 4g signal where I'm at. Sucks cause I'm moving soon tho lol

Ever since they starting attaching the lte unit to the motherboard, the battery life has gotten a lot better. Though signal does effect it, battery is usually better on lte then on wifi.
