Nexus S GT I9023 - Nexus S General

One question, does SuperCurio Voodoo's kernal support the Super clear LCD version of Nexus S? Love his sound fix but not sure if I can flash it on my LCD nexus s. Please advice guys. Thanks.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App

You can flash it without problem ! I also own a 9023 and used his kernel without problems ..

yes it works, but you are not able to adjust the gamma or the color of the screen

Thanks a lot guys! So glad it can be used. Really loved how our devs make our phones so much more usable! Will flash it without worries then.

Benchmarks don't mean anything. Plus you can't judge a phone running a different version of android against another, you will never have a semi accurate reading. I don't have lag in the playstore so it could be caused by your WiFi, data connection or possibly the stock rom. I am running AOKP which has been great.
This phone doesn't like to be overclocked either so I don't recommend trying that at this time and I believe most kernels removed the option too because people were overclocking then running benchmarks which killed their phones. Use MSKIPS Nexus 4 tool to root and install CWM, its the simplest way to do this.

What do you mean? I had 4.2.1 on my phone when I used it to unlock the bootloader, root and install CWM. It even shows up to build 4.2.1 for support.

I think I see what you mean now but in that thread MSKIP himself says this quote below. Once you use his toolkit give him a thanks. That guy really deserves it for the hardwork he puts into his toolkits and support.

I have posted in the thread a few times that V1.3.0 works perfectly with Android 4.2.1 you just need to select 4.2.0 from the model selection screen and everything will work fine. The root files and insecure boot image for JOP40C and JOP40D are exactly the same.

mine isnt that responsive. i find myself making a slew of double and triple clicks. not to mention the pinch to zoom and scrolling responsiveness blows chunks for everyone.
I have none of these issues and it sounds like you are talking about screen sensitivity and not the cpu..
And apparently it cannot "blow chunks" too badly or you would return it.
I think these issues are all blown out of proportion. I don't see many or any actually that are parting with the Nexus 4 due to these things.. Personally I don't notice any lagging at all and the touch screen sensitivity really isn't something related to the lagging the op was referring to mentioning benchmarks anyways .

Play any type of game that uses the CPU intensively. Once the thermal throttling kicks in, you'll notice the stutter.
And the zooming sensitivity is out of whack. It's like i have to molest and grope my screen in order to get the same distance that I would get from my N7000 with a slight pinch-to-zoom.
Moved to Q&A as this is where you ask questions. Please post in the relevant sections going forward.
Thanks

I have played many games with no lagging issues or touch screen issues..

To root or not to root ??

Hi guys had my N4 couple of weeks now loving it possible best phone I've used. Now I've done a bit of rooting over the years had some success and failures but stock JB is pretty much spot but I want to tweak the screen and only way is by rooting so I believe. If I root will I have to do full reinstall of apps and settings which I want to avoid because apart from the screen calibration its just how I want it all works and battery is on par with my galaxy nexus and my 4s so cant complain. What's best way to go?

Huh...big dilemma, I also wouldn't know what to do!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
For apps you can backup via adb or using a toot kit, any other files backup to PC or cloud, for calls and texts you can back them up via apps from market. Settings you can always re set your phone.
You'd need to unlock the boot loader so will completely wipe your phone.
Do it, once rooted its simple to restore everything back.

Once rooted running stock is there any know glitches?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Not really, you gain the benefit of root. Plenty of kernels out there with changed colours.
Root your phone. The benefits of rooting and flashing a ROM from one of these great devs outweighs by far the possible glitches. You can add toggles to the quick toggle menu and resize the nav bar, or get rid of the nav bar and use pie for navigating. I could go on all day. If you do run into problems you can always flash the stock firmware, this is why I buy Nexus phones.

Installed custom ROM
I just need Idk features that make the phone cool. Or something that'll keep me busy so I'm not bored.

rasbean jelly rom with the trinity kernel. but thats what i enjoy
Its basic human nature that they get bored after using the same thing again & again for many days. After a month of usage, I was bored with my S2, then I started trying out new ROMs, I used to change ROMs once every 2 weeks.
I got my Nexus 4, 3days ago.........
Try out different ROMs, try different software tweaks, or different apps from Play Store atleast. Otherwise just find something/someone other than your Nexus 4/10 to remove your boredom......

okay see because I over clocked and rooted my Nexus 4 and 10. Running pa with stock kernel. I literally took of Faux kernel does now because it was overheating my phone. I still have my Nexus 10 overclock and rooted. With same kernel. I just need something else to do with my phone. That should be a really interesting project for you

You can do anything with this app
What you need is to change the way you interact with your device. Remove the nav bar and use pie (learn to use gestures) , nova launcher (and many roms out there) have the option to remove the notificatiom bar. Use dashclock with the extentions as a homescreen widget. Use halo for notifications. Use icon packs to change the way your UI feels, change the wallpaper more often. If you're on google+ take a look at the communities, people are doing some crazy stuff customizations, try to replicate those themes.
Buying the s4 won't solve your problems.

Any Roms with Screen Calibration?

Hey guys,
Just wanted to know if there was any ROM out there with an option to calibrate the colors of the screen on the Nexus 4? I've been ok with it for months but now it's starting to annoy me... I'd like to make the colors more saturated and less washed out. Not only that but I'm looking to finally root my Nexus and install a new ROM and kernel. Thanks guy!

Flash a custom kernel. Most of them will allow you to tweak your colors to your content And there's a color spreadsheet in my sig. to get you started

Is it worth flashing a new kernel?

Hi guys, I've recently rooted my i9505, and after trying a few ROMs I've settled on BlackBox. I've never flashed a new kernel before, just stayed with whatever came with the rom, so would it make much difference if I did, and if so, what would people recommend and why?
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No probably it won't matter much. Sure there can be a minor difference in your situation, but there is no better kernel.
Some kernels are better optimized than the Samsung stock kernel, but between custom kernels there is not much difference. If you don't understand what the difference is between each kernel, just stay with the one that comes with your rom.
Sound advice, thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
no mean to offense anyone...
it is like buying something new to replace a good that you have already (and it is working).
you will have to go and check what custom kernels can give you, to see if it raises an eyebrow. from my experience, each kernel has its ups and downs (I did not find a perfect one). you have to try yourself. a kernel that was best for me might be bad for you, depending on what you expect and want.
there are LOTS of benefits a customer kernel can bring!

Hi mate !
The kernel for instance can offer much customization if you're already rooted and on a custom rom, you can change the amplification of the headphone and the speaker of your device, you can overclock / undervolt your device, you can change screen display settings, you can change the i/o scheduler to your personal liking ...etc and much more !
That's why users recommend it, because it can offer what stock kernel can't and won't offer you .
Nhariamine
Just in case anyone's interested, I flashed Adam kernel the other day and it didn't really work out. The phone became very juttery and laggy, and I the end I had to restore a nandroid. Glad I gave it a go though.
