I thought by now we will have something good and yet there isnt a single case that i like, a back cover, or a holster.....
and the development forum is filled with bunch of lag fixes and roms (2 roms) that are not even as good and stable as stock.
no word on froyo yet, media hub is crap, etc...
With worldwide release i really thought this will be moving with speeds of Nexus.....I guess i was wrong. Its just horrible that they decided to release 5 different variations of Galaxy S. Different bodies, and even different hardware, and therefore different firmware as well

It will come. There is a major learning curve since this is much coherent than the htc built phones. As for accessories yeah.. But it's only been 2 months, be patent..
i too thought that dev would have jumped all over galaxy S phones right away. i know there is a learning curve from htc phones, but i though they would be all over these as they all have the same basic hardware.
I do appreciate the dev who are here and helping and working
i wish for more accessories too
Honestly, this is the first android phone I've owned, I am quite impressed with the activity by the devs. There seems to be a lot of effort into designing tweaks that will lead to some quality changes to our Vibrants after the bugs are worked out.

i would, but unfortunately i am not a developer. and by adding and removing apps from stock rom back and forth is not really development. i do appreciate the lag fix, its working great so far.
Op please sell your phone, buy an HTC, and have a coke and a smile... quit complaining about one of the best phones in the WORLD market... if still unhappy there is always iPhone.... bye bye...
And I wish moderators here would trash these stupid waaaah waaaah threads.... your complaint is useless unless you are willing to develop, hack, beta test, or otherwise move development along... and to the point of lag fixing and deleting bloatware, YOUR WELCOME FOR THE FREE DEVELOPMENT YOU UNGRATEFUL COMPLAINER!!!
If you really think that all the devs are doing is adding and removing apps then maybe you should just wait for an ota update.

Well, I have the phone and my wife bought me a case. I felt in love with it. Amazon's is full of them. My case was worth 9 USD when I first bought it, I can tell u that now there are more expensive ones, the technology is much better.

if these points you listed are so important to you, why did you buy the phone before these things came along?
If and when I am looking at buying something new I do research before purchasing a product so I know what to expect. It sounds like you assumed these things would be ready day 2 after launch and now that they are not you panties are in a twist.
If this is really the case go look in the mirror and there you will have the person to blame for your aggravation .
I like the phone. and i do think it the best phone on the market (at least for me). But I would probably get Droid X if it wasnt so big.
After some mods to phone, i am very happy with it (except for back cover and 2.1, well and the fact that compass just doesnt work at all), gps works, launcher pro plus is a killer, lag fix works, battery indicator fixed, and obviously removed all crapware, oh and tasker app makes word of difference too.
Still New
Am I one of the few that think 2 months is still early in the development game?
The Nexus One is sold as a developers phone, so it should and is supported as one.
I think the developers have lives and a real job. Making this a fun hobby for most of them. So just relax, be patient and before you know it you will have every tweaked/hacked/themed ROM available for your flashing pleasure.

Are actually retarded, so you must make the same stupid point over and over?
We buy stuff when we need it -- like when the old phone breaks, or a plan needs to be renewed.... Most people research a bit, then weigh the pros and cons and take the plunge.
After some use, everyone finds things they like or dislike about their purchase.
But really, why shouldn't we expect to be able to buy by now the dock that Samsung was showing off in their ads way before the phone was available?
Just cleaned this thread and removed some unacceptable comments which absolutely break XDA Rule 2 and usually lead to the suspension of user accounts.
Please stay on topic. Don't post if you have nothing constructive to offer.
Appreciate your cooperation.

Actually, demanding that a product for which you've paid $500 works and it's upgradeable for a reasonable time as long as the hardware supports it (just like a computer), is not *****ing.
When you buy a new car and the radio doesn't work, you don't expect the dealer to tell you to either wait indefinitely, or fix it yourself. Same with this phone.

Difference the phone works as is, everything works fine on it. You just want it to work "better".
Well I want my myTouch to be better. Yea, they should trade me out to a myTouch Slide! I spent 250!!! dollars on it.
I don't remember the last time I bought a computer and then when the next version of an OS came out I got it for free. Either shut up, or learn to develop on your own.
I'm disappointed that there isn't much development going on for the Thrive. I'm also curious as to why? I bought one after doing major comparison between all the tablets available and I chose this one because of the specs, size and of course, capabilities. My friends have other tablets, such as the Acer 500 and I rooted it last night for him and it's nowhere near the speed of my Thrive.
I guess I'll just have to wait it out but damn, I want a new ROM on this already. Just having it rooted isn't enough to take advantage of even a fraction of the capabilities this thing has.

I think a lot of it has to do with the lack of developers having the device. I think if I had one I would probably be putting something together - but I have the Transformer - and no time at the present.
There has been ROM development, just not here.

I did and not too impressed with what I've seen. I think there are what, 3 ROMS available? I'm going to keep this but get the Acer A500 I think since it has tons of development right now.
Thanks for the replies!

I was in the same boat so to say my first choice was the thrive I happily bought it after much consideration of other tablets on the market at the time .. once I got home I enjoyed the speed and the thrives native apps but I went to XDA to se what was popping and nothing lol a dead tablet on the development front.so I tried the Asus liked the screen but didn't want to pat $160 u.s. for USB and extra battery life so i bought my Iconia and ill tell ya what I freaking love it besides some problems with Gameloft apps but usb HDMI micro SD I'm happy and amazing veiwing angles!

Well I have the thrive and it is rooted and has a OC Kernel and Dalepl's stock rom, am I sorry that it does not have some great rom on it, NO it is quite functional and is twice the tablet of any Acer Iconia, and just to be clear I HAVE HAD a Acer Iconia, Motorola Xoom and the Almighty Samsung and all lasted less than a week before returning them, have had my thrive since release and could not be more pleased, and all of the substandard tabs are gone!!!!
I waited in line on black Friday for the Asus transformer because it has a large development scene, but they ran out and I ended up with the Toshiba for $30 more. I've got to day, for what I paid, the Toshiba is cool, but I wish I could get some cyanogen on here.

same here. Love the size and Honeycomb. Have a Samsung galaxy tab 7" and wanted something bigger and newer. Made the mistake of upgrading to 3.2.1 and was hoping the great minds of XDA have figured out how to downgrade to root. Kind of disappointed on the development but maybe we weren't the only ones who went to buy the Transformer and ended up with the thrive. Only time will tell.
Don't know why this thing isn't more popular. Just got mine the other day. So far I love the fact that I can plug in the dongle from my computers wireless keyboard and an hdmi cable to my big screen tv, pair it to a wii remote and have at it. Absolutely awesome!

There is a lot more for it but not on this Forum, I would just say Google the thrive and the other forum will come up in search results and yes there is plenty of Development going on. I cannot put the forum's name here because they will just delete the name if not my complete post.
Yeah, I'm a recovering rom-flasher myself, and I was initially kind of bummed out at the fact that there are not dozens of choices for ROMs, but then I got to asking myself "Why?"
I have Cyanogen 7 on my HTC LEO, and I can flash a new version every week if I want, or if I get tired of that, there are many other ROMS I can choose from. But for the Tablet, I'm looking for a stable portable platform to read forums, e-books, maybe play a few games. The Thrive fills that bill, and the hardware is more versatile than most other tablets out there. I rooted the stock 3.1 ROM so I could use Titanium Backup and nmap, and I don't think I'll upgrade until Ice Cream Sandwich comes out, if then. 3.2 seems to be mostly for 7" tablets so it doesn't interest me much.
I see that there are other ROMS on those "unmetnionable" forums, but I've learned over the years to trust the developers and forums at XDA so I don't really want to take a chance elsewhere.
That's my two cents' worth and if you don't agree, I applaud you - enjoy flashing whatever you can find - it's a lot of fun, and I will continue to do so on my HTC phone, but not on my tablet. Just my opinion.

I think it will be picking up speed soon. Compared to other tablets on the market right now, spec wise, the Thrive is pure ownage! I still have mine and use it frequently. I'm cool with just having it rooted for now so we'll see what happens in the future for development.

Well then you will lose out because the Thrive on XDA will soon be dead and those of us on the other forum will have everything we want on our tablets and thank god that crap cyanogen is not on the thrive!!!!
Performance! But....
I have purchased two of these devices.... One 16G and one 8G. Both ate verymooth and perform very nicely.
Even though Im enjoying the units, I still believe that there should become level of focus on these units. Toshiba now has these units up to V3.3 and have things locked down tightly. Though I believe they did a nice job on the stock ROM, I still believe there should be a root option to admonisyer my personal device. I also believe that the collective brain trust of XDA could produce a ROM that shows the true capability of this hardware platform.
One of the coolest features of the 10.1 inch units is that it has a user replacable battery! How cool is that??
Im not a programmer and barely qualify as a script kiddie in this day of age. So like others on this forum, I have to wait for those with the knowledge and motivation to provide the future path and direction.

Firstly I'll just say hi to everyone (this is my first ever post on XDA)
And yea, almost 2 years after the Nexus One was originally released, I am just about to own one.
I've had a HTC Legend since May 2010 (I was unaware of the Nexus One at that time, because of this buying the Legend has always been a mistake IMO), and I'm tired of it, plus it has lots of software issues, and I've never really thought or attempted to root it.
And so, with my Legend's performance getting worse day by day, I thought I'd get myself a present for Christmas. I considered the Galaxy Nexus, but as I was buying the phone outright, I just couldn't justify paying £510 (+ shipping) for it, and ended up buying a new N1 from Amazon UK for £275 (that price includes shipping).
Since waiting for the phone to be delivered, I have been obsessing over vidoes of it, and forums. I have actually looked at around 100threads on this forum (how sad?!) over the last 48 hours. But, in the course of doing so I have become smitten with this community and the help it offers to those who ask for it.
So I look forward to joining this well established community, and finally owning a Nexus One!
Greetings Dorset,
Enjoy your Nexus One
Yours Sincerely,
Surrey.
P.S Good choice of phone, but look after that power button! (Trackball wake is a must).
Yeah the Power Button issue definitely concerns me, but I'll probably root after a few months, just so I can be sure that the rest of the hardware is okay.
In terms on Custom ROMs, everyone seems to have CM7 on their N1. Is this generally considered to be one of the best ROMs, or is there another reason for its popularity?
Oh, and Hai Surrey
Also make sure to make use of changing the color of trackball notifications. I don't one an N1 anymore [ I went to an HD2 since], but I loved the notification light on the trackball more than any other phones notification LED.
I'll definitely be making use of Trackball notifications for sure.

Basically, this phone is too underpowered for properly running Sense builds, and the ones that were ported have always been with problems, the only relatively stable one being Froyo Sense 1 build ported from Desire by eViL D:.
This leaves it with stock, CM7 and MIUI.
Personally, for this phone I prefer MIUI - IMHO it's far more useful than CM7, containing many nice Sense bits while being small and fast (smooth).

I beg to differ.
HyperSense is perfectly stable, as is Revolution (though he continues to add features and change things up so issues could arise in new builds). I use HyperSense as a daily with absolutely no issues.
As for MIUI, I'd agree that its a great choice also...though i ALWAYS install LauncherPro because i love the features MIUI packs but absolutely derad the iPhone look.
Just my .02.
Welcome to XDA man!
phone is not underpowered main disadvantage is it lacks internal memory when talking about sense roms.Despite of this many people have successfully ported gb sense to n1 without graphical glitches ( thanks to kernel developer fogot name ) other bugs.go ahead and try;u will definately love them

I happened to have N1 and MT4G at the same time (now the N1 is gone), and I can compare their performance first hand.
N1 is seriously underpowered, graphics-wise and storage-speed-wise, to run Sense.
Internal memory disadvantage can be overcome by various SD-EXT utilization techniques.
And Sense doesn't have trackball wake.
dbasabe did great work, but it doesn't turn N1 into a capable Sense device.

Awesome! Glad I'm not the only one buying this phone after so long.
So far I am loving it. And considering the price of new phones, I really don't think you'd be getting much more over the N1 for what you get with new phones.
I will use this phone for at least 1 year.
I have the nexus since it's release to canada by google, no power button issue at all, cyanogen is one of the best rom for a lot of device, on the nexus it manage memory well so it's a good choice.
As far as this phone is concerned, it may not be dual core, but it's fast and the only missing feature compared to newer phone are 4G and near field communication, unless you need those you should be happy with the nexus one despite is age!
I personally doesn't see any justification to upgrade yet
besides the touchscreen failures .. its a great phone despite its age

I'm in exactly the same position as you! (and what's more, I'm also from Dorset ) Except my Nexus One came today! It's beautiful! I got mine for about £109 from ebay and I'm also hoping to root and install CM7, as that's what I had running on my old Motorola Milestone (which died and was the reason I bought this) Good luck with this device!
One of the reasons why CM7 is so popular, is because it is pretty much the only truly custom build based on AOSP out there. There are a lot of AOSP builds that are very basic and don't deviate much from stock, and then there are a much larger amount of builds that are based off the CyanogenMod code base. MIUI is one of those.
But MIUI does make a ton of changes to the CM base, just as CM makes a ton of changes to the AOSP base. It does make MIUI stand out of the pack of CM-derived ROMs out there. While it did start with the CM codebase, they have done an excellent job of distinguishing themselves and giving a completely different user experience than someone running CM.
There are definitely a lot of different builds out there for our beloved N1's, but the two that tend to push the envelope the most and add the most new features are CM and MIUI. Try both out and see how you like them.
And I would recommend rooting much earlier. I had my phone for 3 months before I rooted it, and after I rooted and put CM6 on there (this was well before Gingerbread was released), I kicked myself for not doing it earlier. It runs sooo much better than stock ever did, plus there are a ton of new features.

As far as this phone is concerned, it may not be dual core, but it's fast and the only missing feature compared to newer phone are 4G and near field communication, unless you need those you should be happy with the nexus one despite is age!
I personally doesn't see any justification to upgrade yet

^completely agree with this guy here. I purchased my N1 (US though, not Canada ) at release. I've had not a single issue with power button or anything for that matter. Out of the "common" N1 issues, the only one I encountered was small dust or dirt particles under the screen. That's kind of my fault because I work outside and I keep my phone in my pocket where stuff does get in my pocket on occasions. I plan on eventually researching how to take the screen off and clean that stuff out.
As for everything else he said, spot on. Phone functions plenty fast enough and internet moves quick enough for my taste (and I use my internet A LOT including teethering to my PC as my main source of internet use). Though I would love to get a Galaxy Nexus, I don't think I can justify to myself (or my wife for that matter! haha) the need to spend $700 on a new phone.

^this guy is right as well. I use to work for U-Haul and I had my N1 for maybe 2 months, didn't know anything about rooting and such as it was my first serious smart phone (I came from an LG Vu) when some younger guy came in with an N1 (only one I've ever seen in person by the way besides mine, to this day) and we started talking about it and he asked me if I had force updated my phone and such. He told me about XDA, I joined up, and here I am today. I force updated with the update.zip that was on here, learned about rooting, and within a week after that I had my phone rooted and never looked back. Did a lot of CM nightly testing and such. I've used CM, MIUI, Sense...you name it...from developers new and old (still miss Evil's work!) and every kernel you can think of.
I'd highly suggest rooting ASAP and taking full advantage of this amazing phone

Hello!
So I was almost ready to buy the Note yesterday when I read that the International is getting CM9 nightlies while the ATT version is not.
So is the custom rom situation for the ATT version really that bad? As you can tell by my sig, I love tweaknig so maybe I am better off saving and buying the international one?

International version has been having a lot of bricking problems related to CWM/Kernel. We have some great AOSP/AOKP roms and devs, but a few are currently out of the picture due to bricked phones. Somewhat concerning for us USA users as there is no way initiate warranty repairs on international phones. (I've tried, no bueno)
Our CM9 version is also somewhat lacking, in my opinion. The kernel being used needs a lot of work and the phone is no where near as responsive as the other i9220 & XXLPY based roms. Unfortunately, it is the only "safe" version of ICS that we can run, currently.
AT&T version may not be a bad decision purely based on warranty. Would certainly hate to give up my exynos chip though!

hahahah all was sounding good towards going with ATT until you dropped that last statement!
So I see , its a bit of a risky device to play with compared to my Captivate.
I wonder how bad stock ICS is...at least if I can overclock it I wont feel too bad.
Is that feasible?

I'd say so I had to swap my note 3 times before i found a screen I was happy with - turned out to be an expensive endeavor. With AT&T you could just swap it under the 30 day return policy (or whatever it currently is) until you get one your happy with.
Screen you were happy with? Is there a problem with screens too? Is it something about black level issues I think I read?
Gosh, my captivate looks so small but I am used to it so now I am getting scared
Basically I was going to get a tablet but I was like..in reality a tablet is something ELSE to carry...a Note...is a phone that I ALWAYS bring with me but happens to be BIG and can act as a small tablet bring a lot of joy

Yeah, I run tablet UI on my note and it is crazy awesome.
My first screen had a few dead & unlit pixels (not super common with these phones) and the second had super bad banding. (which is common) Both may have been fine for some, but drove me bonkers.
If you do sway for the international version, id recommend purchasing a 3rd party warranty. I should have done this with my first note, but didn't know that these services existed. My current note is covered by CPS (http://www.cpscentral.com/) and was not very expensive.
Thanks for the idea mate. I will indeed do that but now I have to look for that banding because I always drool about the black levels of my Captivate so banding in anyway will make me go crazy

You're in the wrong forums, these are not the forums for the AT&T Note, being a COMPLETELY different device they have their own forums.
Personally, I would not go with any AT&T-mangled device - the I777 was the last device to receive decent development due to commonality with international devices. All subsequent devices have been severely mangled.
Well at least the captivate has been nice to me. I will look for its forum to see what the deal is with it.
Why is always the USA messing up the phones damn it.
Also, the ATT Note has LTE. That might be something you want/like if you are in an area that has LTE. I am not so I am perfectly happy with my international note.
I do feel like this thread is kind of relevant though because you are comparing the two Notes and asking about the international note.

I was so set on the GS3 but then I see the monster in person and and compared them and I was like...if the GS3 will end up being a dual core in the states..or even at quadcore..I think I will get more use out of the bigger screen than quadcores except for benching lol
FWIW, I was considering a tablet previous to buying a note. The note has fulfilled that role for me as well as that of a phone. Real dual purpose device unless you have strong needs for a tiny phone or large tablet.
Thanks. That is exactly why I got so interested in it after dreaming about a GS3 for so long LOL

The N7000 is not risky at all, just DON'T do what you are NOT supposed to do. Like use a kernel with I/O bug (ICS leaks). If you want to CM9 then there is no problems with that kernel. We also have a very good MIUI port.
About the screen, no problems with mine at all, its a beautiful amoled screen.
Forget about crappy AT&T Frankensteins, and go for the Oficial Note (N7000) and enjoy what samsung design for you (Exynos )

A) It's expensive. B) It's sold in low volumes. C) 10" tablets aren't the sweet spot for Android tablets, 7-8" are. D) It's even worse for 3G/LTE tablets of all types and sizes. E) There will be tumbleweeds in the Pro forums because the 12" is a niche product and the 10" is overpriced; especially compared to the N10.1-14.
Samsung sold 60M SGS4's and 40M N3's in 2013. They'll be lucky to sell 10M Pro's and Note's across all sizes combined. Devs are attracted to popular high-volume devices. We don't have a popular high-volume device.
P.S. - @scrosler is dev-ing for the P600 which is quite a coup.

The original note10 was a niche device too, but it had a fair amount of development done for it. The main issue is that there is no root available for the 600 version, that doesnt trip knox, and there is no incentive for someone to make such a root cos the bounty for it was already taken... even though the root wasnt ever actually completed.
Fingers crossed something will come up during all the note-pro development that will be usable across all the exynos devices. Though I'm getting a lot of good usage out of it anyway without root, and I'm in the UK and we are still stuck on the old old MJ6 rom, so kit-kat (when it turns up) will be a decent upgrade as it is.
If you require a lot of rooting and messing around with roms, I believe the snapdragon version is pretty much your only choice. Unfortunately it seems to be... significantly more expensive, and hard to get hold of, at least where I am.
I actually would recommend just getting the exynos one and just waiting, or root and forget about knox. Unless you really really need 4G for some reason.
I may have gone off topic with this. I'm tired. Need food.

The problem for me is: development for what? I have CleanRom on it and dont have any point which can be improved by a CustomRom. But the time is changing, scrosler sell his note and the next update will come. So, I will try to be prepared and make my own ROM and when it is good enough, I will publish it here.
So, all this is only a matter of need (and knox really didn't count for a developer). So, when someone here missing something, why not doing it? This is not a supermarkt here but a developer community and you will get here all help you need.

How many Android tablets were there when the OG G-Tab was released? Three or four? And they were all 10" and powered by the same Teg2 SoC. So devs (who are typically early adopters) were spread out across fewer devices. There are dozens of Android tablets now and a couple of them are Nexi which are favorites of developers. The N10.1-12 had decent dev support but not like the OG G-Tab (I owned both). And the 3G and LTE versions had very little dev support.
The main issue is that there is no root available for the 600 version, that doesnt trip knox, and there is no incentive for someone to make such a root cos the bounty for it was already taken... even though the root wasnt ever actually completed.*

I agree KNOX has made a subset of folks who may have rooted previously hesitant but that's not the only reason people are staying stock. Today's h/w and s/w has become so much more powerful the need to root has kind of become less important. I used to root and ROM my head off because it was almost necessary to get decent performance. There's still some benefit but it's not nearly as pronounced as it used to be. Factor in potential warranty issues and DRM problems and the risk/reward becomes questionable. The last device I rooted was my N2 because my N3 and N10.1-14 are fine (for me) stock. If you look at the general sections of popular devices on XDA there's a lot more threads about new stock updates and questions about functionality then there are about modding. And to everyone's point, KNOX sure hasn't helped.
All just my opinion of course.
Im a little upset too. I use to have a galaxy tab and used cyanogenmod since the very first days. But the old Texas instruments dual core core was slugshing in the last android iterations. So I switched to galaxy note 10.1 2014 and there's no cyanogenmod for it. Is there any u official build for it ?

Give it some time i used to have the transformer prime tf201 and it felt like 5 people were active in the xda forums for that device
And even the tf201 got some amazing custom ROMs in the end (androwook! ). I think everyone is waiting for a new base (4.4) atm.
And regarding cyanogen mod, those Roms are usually not so popular on samsung note devices because they don't have s - pen support. I personally am very happy with the improved and tweaked stock Roms we have. They are perfect for this particular device. That said, It's always nice to have options.
The device is still fairly new. Give it some time.
I need to be able to add ANY app to the multi-window list, but as far as I can see it can only be done with a rooted device. The fact that you basically void your warranty once rooted is putting me off big time from buying one.
Looks like I'll be sticking with my Note 8.0 for a bit longer...

Sorry, those excuses don't fly. The same excuses exist for the original Tab 10.1 yet there are many ROMs available. In fact, there are still active ROM developers for the original Tab.

They have to fly because it is what is happening. People donated to get Scrosler a Note 2014 and he has sold it. Knox has scared off most development also. I am happy with it running stock rooted.

I agree that the issue is mainly due to Knox but also down to the cost of the tablet.
I have rooted every Android device I've had (and I've had a few) until the Note 10.1 2014. I don't care about not being able to install a 3rd party ROM but I very much care about root as some of my favourite apps (e.g. Sixaxis Controller, Titanium Backup) require root to work.
If the new N10 had been out at Christmas I would have bought that but it wasn't (although at this rate it never will be).

We need to get a tab for beanstown, He has an 'AOSP" like rom, but with touchwiz features left in place. I can get a like new tab for about $350 shipped. Thoughts???
