Quick question since I'm probably trading my cappy for a hd2
When installing android, how much RAM do you get if you install nand or sd? I've heard you get more on sd android right?
Does it effect speed installing android on sd compared to nand?
And I can install swype on the hd2 right?
Cheers and thanks

for RAM i had the same for SD or NAND (Both around 200MB)
NAND is faster than SD and also less battery consuming.
yes swype is available

Thanks, I was looking to trade my cappy and the guy who I'm planning to trade with me told me he was getting around 400mb RAM on nand android and 700mb on sd android......
But he said he only had like 20 apps.......
Could that be true?
Thanks again

well since the HD2 only has 448MB of ram i highly doubt it that he got 700MB through SD..

Forgot to mention he was using the t-mo version which has 576m of RAM......so 400m of ram is possible right?
Swyped from my captivating device running darky with onix
not sure since i'm not using the t-mobile version.
what i got is: 448MB of ram then when all apps killed 200-240MB of RAM left

Anybody with t-mo hd2's that can comment please?

I have the tmobile hd2. usually I'll have 240-250 free ram after killing my apps. depends what you have running but with almost nothing running on phone wake up I will have 300 free ram.

Hi, All
Don't you think it would be sweet, if there was Radio released like the HD2 Update that unlocked 64MB Extra memory for the Nexus One.
The comparison with the Desire would be finished.

It would be nice, but it's already so fast I don't think it would make a difference for the majority of Nexus One users.

Dont understand why you need it. Just looked at my phone with 19 processes running and 200 Mb avail. At any given time I never have less than 100Mb free mem. Does the Sense UI use more memory? Is that why you think we need more?

I find it funny this is coming from someone running the stock rom which means he's not getting all the ram there regardless...but hey, that's just me

Sense UI doesn't use much more I usually have 100MB to 200MB free with Sense UI. Also my phone feels much smoother with Sense UI rather than stock. On top of all that, we don't even have all our 512MB unlocked. I think its like 395MB.
hello. i am currently a xperia x1 user but i am seriously considering to buy a htc touch hd2. however i can't decide between an unlocked tmobile (us) hd2 or hd2 apparently the us hd2 has 1gb rom and 576mb ram. i have read somewhere that the 'xtra 128mb hidden' ram can be unlock in the hd2 when flashed to custom rom i just want to confirm this and what you think guys which one the 2 you advice me to buy? its a hard decision for me. thanks!

i have seen a couple of unboxing videos o us hd2. they say 1g rom 1g ram. not sure abt the ram but the rom thng is what matters. believe me ull need every mb in that rom. only problem with my hd2 is that i always have to look out for not running out of space. its hilariously frustrating. go for the US one.

It's not like an iPhone - there's a slot under the back cover where you can put your own storage cards in. I've got 16GB in mine and I've had it for nearly 5 months and still have lots of space left on both the SD card and the phone memory!
forgot to mention that although u have 512 mb rom on the non us hd2, with the preinstalled system nd software on it, u start with only approx 140 mb of free space! now if u thnk thts enough, just try it.

Oh that's plenty. You just need to use common sense when installing things that don't need to be on the phone memory. That's difficult for some, and they don't understand so blame "low memory" problems, despite the fact that it's normal for WM devices and has been for years.
Also, with the ability to do what I want to my phone, unlike some other popular devices on the market, I can remove things that I don't want and get lots more than 140MB free on my device.
It's really up to you and your own personal capabilities and understanding as to what you do with it, just like most devices.

Is there a way to use ext2/ext3 sd partition as data because most nand roms doesn't leave us mush room for new apps. Does anyone know?

Agreed, I'm using the Cyanogen NAND and have 657mb free after installing a grip of ****. If you need to used apps2sd hit menu>settings>applications>manage applications> when you click an app it will give you an option to move it to SD if you desire.

need help to force the applications to install on sd and when I'm going to move to SD app2sd block
I have found some information in this site:
http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/A2SD
but i don't know if it can be applied to hd2 android nand.
EDIT..................
really?
take a joke man.
maybe its silly american humor or sarcasm.
no need for name calling.
plus you're using some american pricks build
Can we just stick to the topic please...
Of course this is less of a problem for those with 1024 devices but will be a huge one for those with 512MB.
I use a HTC Desire (which has 'similar' memory specs to the HD2) and trust me a proper implementation of A2SD is/will be required.
From IRC logs:
Curious_ MN_ app2sd works fine
Curious_ i moved app2sd app to sd card
MN_ which rom?
Curious_ cotulla's
Curious_ worked out of box
Maybe this person is asking why some apps don't move to sd , I can move only some small apps to sd for ex I have NFS SHIFT witch I can;t move to sd To bad I hove somebody finds a way moving this sort of apps to sd.
apps you moved via app2sd are still leaving data.. not much but enough for being a problem for hd2 512mb users like me...
A2SD+ would be a perfect solution. mounting another partition to extend the intern ram..

Sorry for bumping this up but...
I swear that I had programs that could be moved on a Froyo version on Milestone but now can't be moved on GB HD2 NAND. Am I missing something here?
i've putted android on nand and hardware informormation tell me that i've got 431 mb of ram
some where i've read that with android on nand the htc hd2 unlock the 576 mb of ram it's true? i made an error installing android?
no, its simply not available yet, maybe in the future... with nand it is possible
ok thanks so it's normal that i have the 440 mb of ram?

well... you're sure its 440mb? normally android builds have around 412 mb
yes i've got 412 mb of ram i made a mistake because memory booster told me: total ram 432706112 bite
I think we are using full ram already, just as we were with sd android builds. Just some of the ram is for video and system, so its not user accessible.

mhh not sure about that, because hardware info would say 576mb ram then, like on every other android phone. you will see there full ram also, and not only the space which is reserved for programs
edit:
you dont have access to full ram in winmo also, you see only the space which is accessible for your apps and stuff. but when you look at hardware info it will show you, that your phone has 576mb ram. thats what i mean.
I think there was a thread explaining it somewhere, but I'm pretty sure that we're not getting anymore RAM than we already have.

I thought some later winmo ROMS unlocked some missing RAM on Euro models, if so this could be done in Android to? - damn our inferior Euro models !!!
hope some brother can hack full ram on HTC eur, my phone show the total of Ram is 412 MB not 576 mb>> sad... if it possible that wonderful!!!

they are two diffrent ideas because in order to place data in ram it has to place it there when booting vs nand where everything is off device memory. every time u shut off the device however, ram is cleared so you would need a back up of the data to replace it on next boot.
maybe some data could placed on soreage card before flashing ...
and then the data from card could be loaded into ram on each start ...
mmhh thats sounds good for me

I believe what Kounno did,was creating a data.img on SD card it has nothing to do with RAM.I tried it already and it created my data.img on first boot just like SD builds and the rom itself was stored in NAND. At least that's what i thought was going on when i tried it.
Anyway, he did it and told us this morning. He seemed rather happy about it....

No, as far as I understand...
This helps more on the update of various system parts... but NANDram with data.img support will be GREAT.
I am more concerned with polishing various bugs and issues ( real WiFi and BT MAC address, low call volume, various freezes), because very often we see builds which implement flashy ideas and tweaks, with known bugs staying like forever... I cannot help, unfortunately...

I don't think we will get any speed increase on Ram builds run from NAND compared to RAM builds ran from SD card. They will both function exactly the same... the whole OS is loaded to RAM. The only difference will be where the OS is stored. It will be good to have some RAM builds for people using NAND, just don't expect to see any speed difference from the SD RAM builds.
