Since I have enabled the fingerprint lock I can no longer do voice dialing from my bluetooth device (until I unlock it first). Has anyone else encountered this?
Yes. It's been fairly common on smartphones over the past decade or so to not allow voice dialing when pin locked (or in this case, fingerprint). Not sure why.
So far I haven't looked into alternatives...I just don't voice dial when it's locked (or unlock it first).
yea i figure this too that sucks TBH perhaps if you can dial would be a "bypass" of security so maybe thats why, you should have a option to enable this as feature
Yes, especially frustrating when you live where it is not legal to talk on the phone without a hands free device!
It worked fine on my BlackBerry Tour... bummer. Any workarounds for it?
A little googleing reveals that on some Androids it apparently works, as it does on iPhone. Hmmm... starting to wonder if I chose the right phone.
Voice Dialing without unlocking phone
Has anybody found a workaround for this yet?
This has been getting particularly annoying as of late - both in the car and on foot. What's the point of voice dialing if you have to pull out the phone first? BT headsets must be pre-synced with the phone, so allowing this isn't even that significant of a security breach, unless you lose your BT headset along with the phone.
Do we even know what component prevents us from voice dialing when the phone locks? Is it part of the lock screen? Of the android kernel's security? Or is it a hidden setting/permission that perhaps a more experienced developer can help us find? I don't know enough about Android yet to even begin to know where to look . . .
It annoys me the most when double click my bluetooth for redial but it doesn't respond...

I use the 'delayedlock' app to unlock the phone when it detects my BlueAnt S4 is connected. Works fine. The phone relocks itself once the S4 is disconnected.
cmccabb,
Thanks, I will check that out. I assume you use the Bluetooth plugin for "Delayed Lock?"
Maybe once our phones go to Gingerbread we this will be fixed. Maybe.

Yes. I also use the wireless plug in to keep it unlocked at home.

i have the same problem. ive always used the fingerprint, but it wasnt until i got new BT headset when it started. so it could be the headset also. My old one would do voice commands when locked. im gonna search for that app too see how it works.
Just off the top of my head:
If you have Tasker, you can set it to deactivate the screen lock when a bluetooth device is connected.
Create a new profile
Select state > Bluetooth connected
New Task > Display > Keyguard > Set Off
Then you can set an exit task to turn the keyguard back on
This is now fixed in gingerbread.

Actually mine went from working in 2.2.2 to now not working in 2.3.4... screen flashes a bunch of times but wont unlock... cant bluetooth call unless I unlock the phone first. This is very annoying!
It should be a bug at some custom ROMs. You may try to flash the Custom ROM "CherryBlur 1.4d", the bluetooth dialer is still alive. However, it has battery drain issue. The battery may support around 12~14 hours even you switched to the maximum battery saver mode.
p.s. assumed that you have to enable the "Allow Bluetooth bypass" option in the system setting.

Running stock Gingerbread. I frequently use Bluetooth with no problems at all. I use fingerprint sensor all the time. Never need to unlock to receive an incoming call.
On Alien #4 - and in Stock too, I think - I've got the option to "Bypass over Bluetooth" as last menu entry in the lock settings. Do you have that menu point and have you tried that?

Yes! The bluetooth headset may redial the last outgoing call and receive the incoming call without any problem. But it cannot wake up the phone when you activate the bluetooth voice dialer in some Custom ROMs.
Finally, I identify that the issue was caused by the overclock kernel. Because "CherryBlur 1.4d" includes the standard kernel without any overclock / under voltage setting, the bluetooth voice dialer can operate perfectly.

Any ideas?

I think both topics have been discussed in this forum somewhere. I can`t do a search right now or I`d try to find the links and post them here for you.

Typical behaviour when charging using a computer. Use the wall charger.
I don't know why this is, but it seems that USB does not apply the same "flow" (do not know the correct word in english) as the wall charger do...
I was copying ca. 5 GB using ActiveSync to the MicroDrive and this operation actually drained battery even though the unit was charging from USB...

I'm on T-Mobile in the US. I had a problem when my phone first arrived. Since I reconfigured the phone settings I haven't had any problems and even better reception.
My settings are as follow:
Select your network type: Auto
Select your GSM/UMTS band: GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
If you set it up like this on the T-Mobile network and still have problems call T-Mobile. Let them know you have an Ameo, will give them a clear understanding of the phone type you have for support, and have them transfer you to the data/pda department. See if they can help you isolate the problem. Could be a network issue or phone, no telling. I have an HTC Advantage and have better phone performance than with any other phone I've ever had on the T-Mobile network.

i will try it. the funny thing is that in only one place this happens. after testing it i realized when i'm at my office i get great reception but it takes many tries for the call to go. but i dont have this problem anywhere else. i will try it and will see what happens. i dont think it is hardware issue. data works fine. today has been fine so far. thanks for the info.
Regarding the MS Voice problem, have you adjusted the settings, as by default it will *not* announce incoming calls, you need to go to Start/Settings/Voice Command and enable it in the phone options.
Also with Notify the default setting is bluetooth headset only, change it to the middle one of the three.
This is in VC 1.6 which I'm assuming you're using.

Thanks. I did it, it works but weird way. It announcing calls in the headset and speaker at the same time!
I was able to get Internet Calling (integrated VoIP) on the mogul working with the Gizmo VoIP service. The big problem is that the volume is so low it is pretty much unusable. I followed all of the guides here on xda and came up with the same issue as everyone else; i could not get internet calling to show up on the today screen and i did not have any of the internet options under the phone settings. What solved it for me was Schap's Setup VoIP tool version .3. This tools gives us the ability to now set the items that us Mogul users do not have available under the phone settings.
In a nut shell:
1) install WM6VoIP.CAB then reboot
2) install SetupVoIP_v0.3.cab (Schap's VoIP tool)
3) open Schap's config tool and set:
a) all of your SIP settings.b) Set outgoing calls using VoIP to Whenever available.c) enable VoIP over 3G.
Now when you go to your phone dialer it should now show the name of your VoIP service at the top rather than your carrier (Sprint PCS in my case). You will have to force your internet to connect first (i use PIE to start my internet connections up, not sure of a better way to do this.) Now you will be able to make and receive VoIP calls. I have verified this by calling another phone and seeing that the caller ID is from my VoIP. I have also been able to stay on a call and browse the web at the same time (not normally possible on sprint). The 1X icon never appears over my Evo icon while on the phone now. Interestingly enough i could not get this to work over WiFi, it would only work on Evdo.
This integrated VoIP is so seamless that it pains me to use another app just because of this volume issue. I have tried:
Skype. Works great, but not with Gizmo.
SJPhone. Works with Gizmo, but is VERY choppy.
GoSip. Works great with Gizmo, but is very big and slows the phone down.
Fring. Works great with Gizmo and the mem usage is great, but has no dial pad and that pretty much makes the app useless.
Wengo. Works great with Gizmo. Mem usage is on the big side, but is manageable. Seems to be the best for me so far.
I have tried many others that either work as dial out only or only work with their makers SIP service.
Any other ideas or thoughts?
Thanks,
JD
You got the mic working using Fring ? I always got one way audio
What version of WM6VoIP.CAB did you use ?
The mic did work for me on fring. However, the instant that i realized that i didn't have a dialpad i removed it. I use VoIP mostly for conference calls and i need to be able to enter in conference room passwords.
How would i be able to tell what version of WM6VoIP.CAB i am using? I cannot find version information anywhere.
JD
You are lucky with the Fring since there is many complaints from Mogul owners that Mic doesn't work
What version did you use ?
When I was searching for the WM6VoIP.CAB there was indication that there is some new version but the link was dead when I tried to download
Can you please post it here?
When i tried Fring it was a few months ago and i don't remember the version number. I do remember using my bluetooth headset for SIP rather than the internal mic and speaker. I just tried the newest version of fring (downloaded last night) and my internal mic and bluetooth headset now do not work for SIP. Interesting.
For WM6VoIP.cab I searched here on XDA and downloaded the first link i found. Here is the one that i used, not sure if there is a newer version? http://218.93.115.138/d900/patch/WM6VoIP.CAB

That's the same I'm using ... I did read some article about this couple weeks ago ( can't find it) where there was reference and non working link to new version of this file.
Did you read this post ? :
http://www.eten-users.eu/lofiversion/index.php/t8854.html
There is reference to switch.cab ( can't find link to download it )
switch.cab
Try this:
http://www.etenblog.com/downloads/Software/switch.cab
I did, it did install ok but it doesn't work
Thanks
well i tried the configuration and everything, but the thing is that when i try to call out it says dialing then it says call ended, like it doesn't even ring. I entered the correct settings and everything.
I did everything and it DOES NOT show on my Today screen, I see the item "Internet Calling" checked in the today screen options. Any ideas?

No, I have a Sprint Mogul with the "unofficial" leaked GPS rom. Anyone else know how to fix this? I really need this to work, thanks a lot.
It will not show on your today screen. When you go to your dialpad, the name of your VOIP provider should be listed at the top rather than sprint. If it shows that then you should be good to go.
JD
When you make a call, does the sound come through the earpiece or the speakerphone?
How can I have the sound coming from the speaker on the screen side instead of the back speaker?
Thanks!
I'm afraid you can't
Hi, I'm new at this android thing, I got a samsung galaxy s plus, everything seems fine but one problem, when I am connected to my wifi and every time I want to call someone when I press the call button and enter the number and press the green call button it starts asking me to use SIP calling, I don't want that I want to use my cellular network to call, is there any way? Or do I have to turn off wifi every time I want to call?
Did you install any SIP software? Do you have a good cellular reception?
I have never experienced this issue while on wifi (and at home I'm almost always on wifi).
aside from Skype I have something called voipalot i use that for international calls
What happens when you remove this app? Skype should not be the culprit, have this installed too. No problems with it.

I had this problem with skype installed... Whenever I tried to make a call, a pop up usef to ahow up, it gave me 2 options, Skype and Phone... to avoid further pop ups, just click on 'use this program as default' check box at the bottom and select 'Phone'..... Pop up will not happen again...
I use csipsimple for me is the best.
I've been digging into this for a while and wanted to make sure I get this correct. Do I have to be rooted for me to use Tasker (or any other third party app) to auto unlock my phone when my phone connects to bluetooth (or whatever)?
I don't want to root my phone because of the issues I've seen people having but I would really like to find a way to auto unlock my phone.

Thanks but my issue is having the phone unlock (swipe) and get to the main screen when connected via bluetooth to my car. This will allow me to unlock my phone without having to enter a pin but it still doesn't actually unlock it.

So your expectation is that as soon your phone connects to your car (thru bluetooth), you screen wakes and shows you the home screen of your launcher? Rather bizarre...
Yes. Not really bizarre. It doesn't necessarily need to show me the home screen of my launcher. I really just need it to unlock my phone. I know many people use this because I've seen ways in Tasker and other 3rd party apps to do it, but you need to be rooted. So I was wondering if someone had a way to do this without being rooted.
What are you wanting to do once it is unlocked? That may be another way for us to look at the issue.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my first post. I want my HotSpot to turn on when my phone connects to Bluetooth in my car. I also want the HotSpot to turn off when my phone disconnects from bluetooth in my car.
Hmm...Try AutoInput. It's a 3rd-party plugin. It has an unlock function. Haven't tried it myself, but I think I will now that I've looked into this.

Yeah, I tried it but couldn't get it to work. I think I needed to be rooted for it to do what I wanted but I'll check again. Thanks for the suggestion.
So far it seems everything works as it should with my watch but I do not get notifications when an incoming call comes through to my cell. Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Also I'm not connected VIA SIM card and don't plan to do so. Any help is appreciated!

- update all apps
- disable SIM
- DO NOT SETUP THE CALL SETUP APP
Hi,
I have the exact issues of calls not notified.
Are the update (last part) of your post the fix for it?
Thanks!

Yeah give those steps a try. It takes some time because you have to let things update. I'd suggest trying to get your WiFi setup so it can use that to update and keep your Bluetooth off until it's done otherwise it'll try and do so through Bluetooth and that's just too damn slow.

Awesome. Now you get to enjoy all the perks. Only thing you can't do is take a call with the watch. Honestly I don't see a good use case for that anyways. My use case is to be able to ignore calls without having to pull my phone out. Very handy in meetings.

Yes! Thanks for your help!
The main use for me is similar: being able to see who's calling and decide if I want to reach for my phone
Also, I just realized the way the watch is connected matters to call notification as well. Hope it wasn't something everyone else already knew:
I found out watch screen notification for calls will only work when airplane mode is turned off (even with sim disabled) and watch is connected to the phone through bluetooth. Wifi on watch wouldn't do the trick. If airplane mode is on, the call screen will not come on no matter what type of connection there was.
According to some users, using only BT connection saves battery life anyway!

Make and receive calls
After phone is setup and no calls or incoming calls that's all I found you do was go to settings, apps, system apps, Verizon messages app and disable and then enable and back to main screen click calling setup and 911 address page comes up click address to use and you should see phone calling activated pop up on screen and should then be able to make and receive calls but you'll need to connect earbuds or headset because Mic was disabled after 2.0 update. Hope this works. I did notice the first time doing this you have to click on remove updates.
