Wifi SIP Calling - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi, I'm new at this android thing, I got a samsung galaxy s plus, everything seems fine but one problem, when I am connected to my wifi and every time I want to call someone when I press the call button and enter the number and press the green call button it starts asking me to use SIP calling, I don't want that I want to use my cellular network to call, is there any way? Or do I have to turn off wifi every time I want to call?

Did you install any SIP software? Do you have a good cellular reception?
I have never experienced this issue while on wifi (and at home I'm almost always on wifi).

aside from Skype I have something called voipalot i use that for international calls

What happens when you remove this app? Skype should not be the culprit, have this installed too. No problems with it.
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA App

I had this problem with skype installed... Whenever I tried to make a call, a pop up usef to ahow up, it gave me 2 options, Skype and Phone... to avoid further pop ups, just click on 'use this program as default' check box at the bottom and select 'Phone'..... Pop up will not happen again...

I use csipsimple for me is the best.

Internet calling (VoIP) on the mogul works, but...

I was able to get Internet Calling (integrated VoIP) on the mogul working with the Gizmo VoIP service. The big problem is that the volume is so low it is pretty much unusable. I followed all of the guides here on xda and came up with the same issue as everyone else; i could not get internet calling to show up on the today screen and i did not have any of the internet options under the phone settings. What solved it for me was Schap's Setup VoIP tool version .3. This tools gives us the ability to now set the items that us Mogul users do not have available under the phone settings.
In a nut shell:
1) install WM6VoIP.CAB then reboot
2) install SetupVoIP_v0.3.cab (Schap's VoIP tool)
3) open Schap's config tool and set:
a) all of your SIP settings.b) Set outgoing calls using VoIP to Whenever available.c) enable VoIP over 3G.
Now when you go to your phone dialer it should now show the name of your VoIP service at the top rather than your carrier (Sprint PCS in my case). You will have to force your internet to connect first (i use PIE to start my internet connections up, not sure of a better way to do this.) Now you will be able to make and receive VoIP calls. I have verified this by calling another phone and seeing that the caller ID is from my VoIP. I have also been able to stay on a call and browse the web at the same time (not normally possible on sprint). The 1X icon never appears over my Evo icon while on the phone now. Interestingly enough i could not get this to work over WiFi, it would only work on Evdo.
This integrated VoIP is so seamless that it pains me to use another app just because of this volume issue. I have tried:
Skype. Works great, but not with Gizmo.
SJPhone. Works with Gizmo, but is VERY choppy.
GoSip. Works great with Gizmo, but is very big and slows the phone down.
Fring. Works great with Gizmo and the mem usage is great, but has no dial pad and that pretty much makes the app useless.
Wengo. Works great with Gizmo. Mem usage is on the big side, but is manageable. Seems to be the best for me so far.
I have tried many others that either work as dial out only or only work with their makers SIP service.
Any other ideas or thoughts?
Thanks,
JD
You got the mic working using Fring ? I always got one way audio
What version of WM6VoIP.CAB did you use ?
The mic did work for me on fring. However, the instant that i realized that i didn't have a dialpad i removed it. I use VoIP mostly for conference calls and i need to be able to enter in conference room passwords.
How would i be able to tell what version of WM6VoIP.CAB i am using? I cannot find version information anywhere.
JD
You are lucky with the Fring since there is many complaints from Mogul owners that Mic doesn't work
What version did you use ?
When I was searching for the WM6VoIP.CAB there was indication that there is some new version but the link was dead when I tried to download
Can you please post it here?
When i tried Fring it was a few months ago and i don't remember the version number. I do remember using my bluetooth headset for SIP rather than the internal mic and speaker. I just tried the newest version of fring (downloaded last night) and my internal mic and bluetooth headset now do not work for SIP. Interesting.
For WM6VoIP.cab I searched here on XDA and downloaded the first link i found. Here is the one that i used, not sure if there is a newer version? http://218.93.115.138/d900/patch/WM6VoIP.CAB
JD
That's the same I'm using ... I did read some article about this couple weeks ago ( can't find it) where there was reference and non working link to new version of this file.
Did you read this post ? :
http://www.eten-users.eu/lofiversion/index.php/t8854.html
There is reference to switch.cab ( can't find link to download it )
switch.cab
Try this:
http://www.etenblog.com/downloads/Software/switch.cab
I did, it did install ok but it doesn't work
Thanks
well i tried the configuration and everything, but the thing is that when i try to call out it says dialing then it says call ended, like it doesn't even ring. I entered the correct settings and everything.
I did everything and it DOES NOT show on my Today screen, I see the item "Internet Calling" checked in the today screen options. Any ideas?
Telus phone right ?
I if so that's normal with the Telus ROM

No, I have a Sprint Mogul with the "unofficial" leaked GPS rom. Anyone else know how to fix this? I really need this to work, thanks a lot.
It will not show on your today screen. When you go to your dialpad, the name of your VOIP provider should be listed at the top rather than sprint. If it shows that then you should be good to go.
JD
When you make a call, does the sound come through the earpiece or the speakerphone?
How can I have the sound coming from the speaker on the screen side instead of the back speaker?
Thanks!
I'm afraid you can't

Call Forwarding Icon in Task Bar...ARGHHHH

how do i get rid of it, everytime i restart the phone, it comes back...its pissing me offfff LMAOOO HAHA....please anyone...help meeee
Did you ever figure this out?
I'm having this problem too since the latest rom upgrade. Seen a few others with the same problem after upgrading as well. I'm using ATT US X1a rom1.03.948.8.
I've tried a hard reset, swapping the sim out (as mentioned in another thread), using forwarding cancel codes (##62#), and obviously the normal call forwarding settings on the phone. It clears up the problem for a few soft resets, then it comes right back again.
call forwarding..
you seem to have call forwarding turned on.
Phone - Menu - Settings - services - call forwarding - get settings
there you will have all these type of settings like forward to number with no answer and also forward all calls.. just uncheck them all i guess.
Thanks
daniel
In NAM on AT&T, call forwarding is always turned on for something. Normally, it's turned on only for no answer and unreachable.
The phone should not show the call forwarding icon when these are the only services activated.
I don't understand how or why it happens, but I will occasionally get the call forward icon showing when I have nothing special turned on.
It will eventually go away, usually after I've had to power the device for some reason. Note, however, that it will not necessarily go away if I power the device to the specific purpose of removing the call forwarding icon.
I've never figured out what makes it show or why it goes away.
Lucky for me, I'm not too troubled by it.
Hmm
I think this problem is carrier related, (carriers have control over your call forwarding) because I have had this problem on many different phones from different manufacturers over the years. Not on my Xperia yet though.
Thanks for the replies. As stated in the earlier post, I have already tried unchecking, rechecking etc. As soon as it connects to the network it goes away. It seems to be an issue with the newest rom though as the previous rom does not have this issue at all (for me at least).
Call forwarding is definitely on the carrier side, but as soon as the phone connects to the network to pull call forward settings, it will always change the icon to the correct status (ie icon is there when forward all calls is on and not when it's not), which tells me that it's probably an issue with the rom, not the carrier. You're right about the settings George, but unfortunately I do use call forwarding from time to time and need to know when its truly on or off .
I've tried tweaking the cf values in the registry as well at hklm\software\htc\phone without any luck.
The call forwarding icon is also showing on my X1 I am on Orange UK.
I guess it can't be fixed.
Guys in US with AT&T.
I've got this issue that might be stupid but I suffer from it really bad. Everytime I get a new voice message, a text comes in with weired notes (which I know is for the phone to notify me) but I have to delete the sucker everytime. Or everytime I am in the voice box, it sends me another txt for deletion/
How can I get rid of this?
Do you guys have a good visual voice message system installed?
AT&T doesn't support any other phones except what they sell. AHhh
Thank you all.
Oddly enough my problem went away. I still think it's a ROM issue. I was playing with some other roms and eventually ended up flashing back to NAM R2AA008 (1.03.948.8). Restored my old config with full SPB backup and I haven't had the problem since.
I'm guessing that "if" it was a settings issue, the backup would've just recreated the issue. Plus hard resets didn't make the problem go away either. I even tried changing to a new sim as some people tried in other posts. But completely reflashing the rom seems to have done the trick for me at least.
The only difference that I can see is that I did the first update through SEUS. All the other flashes were done the old fashioned way. Not saying this would work for others, but it's been gone for weeks now for me.
Solution
Dial ##21# on the X1.
The "Call Forwarding" icon will disappear on the top bar of your X1. But, it won't affect your call fwd settings in the operator's mobile system.
P.S. I mean it won't change the call fwd settings defined by operator in the mobile system, e.g. no answer and the call will be directed to voice mail system.
##21# is the function code to cancel call fwd setup by your phone. If you did setup some call fwd scenarios on your phone, the call fwd icon will be displayed as an indicator for call forward is active.
For the purpose of just get rid of the icon right after power on or soft reset the phone, I think it is a simple solution.

I think most of the people having this problem on the thread are referring to a strange bug that seems to be affecting a small percentage of users. I've seen the same problem posted on a few other sites/threads as well. It doesn't really have to do with call forwarding being on at all, it's just that the icon is there. Using the forward codes or forcing an update will make it go away temporarily, but for me it kept eventually coming back no matter what I did. When my phone had the problem, I tried 21, 69, 67, 61. None of them made the issue go away permanently.
My X1 has this kind of problem as well. It is the problem from X1 itself, maybe the X1 can not log into the 2G or 3G network very well.

Whoa. LOL... I haven't seen this since the old Synergy Motorola days when we were all fascinated with foreign firmware.
I do not have this issue with the generic NAM or generic UK ROM in their latest iterations.
I guess the first thing anybody would normally suggest is to make sure you're on one of these ROM.

This is a carrier related issues. Some carrier has 2G and 3G network that if the area is not covered by 3G network, Internal using forward to their own 2G network in order to let the phone work. It happen not just on the X1, It happen on all other WM base phone I have before. However, if your carrier has only a single network whether it is 2G or 3G. This forward logo will go away. Good example. the 3 mobile Network in Hong Kong has 2G and 3G separate and on my X1, which use the 3 mobile has the forward logo all the time but on my Touch HD, I use the Smartone network which have a combine 2G and 3G network and you never see the forward logo.
Just so you know, same problem here.
The solution? I heop someone makes a pretty version for the "Call forwarding" icon haha.
With the help of Bxsteez I have fixed this issue with the R2 rom always doing this...

Since the last firmware update, I have the same icon showing up.
But there is a cure at least for US AT&T.........
Like it has been said before go to phone setting
Select Call Forwarding and hit the get setting button...
Once it retrieves the setting from AT&T net, the icon goes Bye-Bye!!
I have to do this every hard-reset or complete power down...
This what works for me...

Calling over wifi? I thought I was already doing that.

Check out the screen capture I included. I have zero bars of coverage, but a full strength signal on my wifi connection. I browse the web and make calls like this all the time since there is basically no service in my house. How does UMA or wifi calling differ from this?
You're nor using wifi for calling... lol. Vibrant often times shows Jo bars, yet it works with no issuesn turn off wifi and you wont even drop a call as you're not using it to make them in the first place.

Well depending on which firmware you're running the signal bar display isn't the most accurate representation of your connection anyway.
If you assumed, because you had a display with no bars that you were somehow magically making WiFi calls, you were just mistaken.

I'm using Bionix 1.3 and when I was using stock it was the same deal so I guess theyre all busted. Thanks.
UMA is use with wifi... explanation: It give u the ability to talk over wifi. If u have minutes plan it doesn't waste your minutes. That's the way UMA works. I hope this information was helpful.
I had that plan on my Blackberry. Before it was only for Blackberries devices. Now they are doing it for Android phones.
give a simple test turn off you wifi and make a call to 611.
Ok I understand the difference now.
Just to make sure, I'm guessing these settings are also being incorrectly displayed..
Edit: I'm talking about the signal strength which is saying 0 dBm 0 asu and the mobile network state that says its disconnected.
His rom is based off of JFD obviously and the bars/signal strength are busted on JFD. It will only read as high as -81dBm (wrong), has poor scaling (-97dBm/-111dBm/-0dBm after an RSSI of about -100 (on GSM), etc.
^Fixed on JI_. It would bounce between -0 dBm and like -89dBm.
Oh so it seems this is another thing we're waiting on JIT for to fix. Thanks.

If you don't have the UMA @Home plan, you can still use UMA, it just uses your regular minutes.
Fail-safe way to know you aren't calling through Wi-Fi - turn ON Airplane Mode then turn Wi-Fi on and try to make a call, it won't work.

Well not JIT (java compiler whatever in FroYo) but JI2 and JI4 (I didn't know the version we would be getting OTA so I just put an underscore). I have JI4 in that shot but there is no difference between the two. It's fixed. The bars do refresh often, much more often than HTC and Motorola allows their phones to so it will show service fluctuation quicker, that's unchanged. But it won't dip below 0 bars unless your service is below -109dBm in the Android system (Samsung seems to have their own backend that translates stuff to Android, it's readings can be different but we won't go into that)
I thought the blue circle with a slash meant no service. Not the 0 bars

You can make calls over wifi/3g now. Just requires somewhat of a lengthy set up. Quality is not super great but here are the steps if anyone is interested.
*rough draft*
Steps
1)Before we start do you have a google voice account..if yes go to step 2 if not go to the google voice homepage and sign up for a free number.Keep the page open...and open another tab
2) go to sipgate.com sign up for a free account (you will have to give your cellnumber to recieve a key to confirm your new free account). You can remove your cell number from the settings page later.(You can choose to install their softphone software now or later doesn't really matter) Be sure to keep open the Sipgate and google voice pages. You will be navigating between both.
3) Once you receive your free number from sipgate..(it will be a random number from california) go to the settings page copy the number sipgate given you , navigate to go google voice and add the sipgate number as the number google voice forwards to. Also make sure the number is set as a home number.
4) You will have to verify that number..with google voice..this when you will have to install the softphone software by sipgate. Have google voice call your sipgate number..and through the softphone dial paid just hit the 2 digit number given by google voice to confirm the sipgate number. (You can removed the sipgate software from your computer now)
5) The software i use to make outbound or receive calls..is sipdroid and gvoice callback which are both located in the marketplace and free. Download them both. There are other alternatives , but these are the two programs i used.
6) Once you installed both apps...open up sipdroid go to the settings-> sip account settings... now navigate back to sipgate settings page move your mouse cursor over the voip phone icon and click on credentials. Look at sipdroid now..and input the sip ID provided by sipgate as your authorization name in sipdroid ,the password, and the server is sipgate.com
7. Once you input everything.. sipdroid should register and you should see a green dot in your notification bar. Now open up Gvoice callback put your google voice account details in and put your callback number...as your sipgate number. For the callback setting you can set it as always..or ask it doesnt matter ...up to you. That should be it. ( I have mine to ask)
8. To test if you set up everything correctly turn on wifi...and put your phone into airplane mode. make a call ...there should be a prompt to make the call through gvoice callback once you make the call the sipdroid dialer will come up..and you will receive an incoming call from your sipgate number..just slide your finger up accept call and google voice will connect you to your actual call. As for receiving calls your contacts will have to dial your google number and sipdroid has to be running to pick up the call. Once you accept the incoming call hit 1 on the dialpad and your connected with the other person on the other line.
*Another tip..to make sure you have everything setup correctly is..sipgate gives you 60 free minutes to make outbound calls..you should only use a minute or 2 confirming the number with google...if you notice your mins going down then you probably messed up somewhere.*
Personal Experience
From my experience the call quality...is decent there is minor echoing that can be heard only by the person on the other end..but hey its free. You can also make calls of over 3g. Be sure to turn off sipdroid when you are not going to rly use it because..it can take a drain on the battery as it ..constantly registers itself. I read that you can setup pbxes..to route your inbound and outbound calls..which can help call quality and battery life as its tcp instead of udp , but it was too confusing for me to figure out.
Anyways I hope this information helps... whoever is curious about making free voip calls

Google Voice touch tones not working?

I got my epic recently and use it a lot for work. I have google voice installed so I can make calls over my wifi and not use any minutes. I have ALOT of minutes for work purposes working from home since I have no home phone. While the call works fine, my touch tones do not seem to go across fully. It recognizes some keys like if I press #. However, I always get invalid entry so something isnt working right. Anyone have any idea on how to resolve this?
How are you able to make calls? When I try to do this over wifi, I get an error message saying that i need to be connected to the network even though I am. Please let me know how I can use my wifi connection and make and recieve calls.
I was wrong anyways Google voice just acts as a middle man and still uses minutes. There is a way to use sipgate to use wifi but I haven't yet.

T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling Issues

Anybody else having issues with T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling? Mine connects after a reboot, stays connected, but after a while it disconnects from WiFi calling and more often than not it doesn't want to re-connect again until I reboot the phone.
I suspect it may have something to do with the Doze mode in Android M, but I'm not sure. It feels like once it gets in doze mode it doesn't want to connect to Wi-Fi calling again.
Any known ways to force it to reconnect to WiFi calling, without rebooting?
Not sure what's happening, but I'm not receiving incoming phone calls when connected to WiFi calling. I've turned it off at home (have decent enough voice service) for the time being.

I've seen that too, it's definitely flaky.
Came here just to get more info on this issue. Flaky on mine as well. I'm on T-Mobile. Sometimes users will hear me well, sometimes they cannot. It's typically most flaky when I'm right on the cusp of getting a tower signal. I'll receive a WiFi call and all will sound fine, but as soon as I move close to a window the call quality drops and users on the other end can barely make out what I'm saying. Almost like it has a hard time deciding between WiFi or the cell tower.

I've had it set to both at different times in the past few weeks. Right now it's set to prefer WiFi because I have poor to non-existant celluar coverage indoors (both at work and home). My wife's old LG G2 has flawless WiFi calling at home.
I have mine set to "Wi-Fi Preferred". It's worked without any problems that I know of both at home and at work, for both calling and text messaging.

This has also been my experience, Connects instantly and stays connected. This is also the first phone I have had that actually hands off to mobile network when leaving a WiFi area without dropping the call. The galaxy s6 advertised this but never once did it work. I get pretty good service at my house and honestly didn't know that I would be able to use WiFi calling when I bought my 6p. Pleasantly surprised.
After a few days, text messages won't send. I get an error -1 code. Had to turn off Wifi=preferred.

See whether this helps:
Dial *#*#4636#*#* as a "normal" call from the stock phone dialer
You should see a menu
Tap Phone information
Scroll down
Tap "Turn ON SMS over IMS" button (make sure that after the button actually says "Turn OFF SMS over IMS" -- this means it's currently ON)
Based on info from this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/1vahlr/fyi_if_youre_on_tmobile_your_sms_is_sent/
I would not touch any other settings in that menu and if it doesn't help, you should probably revert it back.
Now I'm not sure where these settings are persisted and if they get reverted back when a new radio is flashed for example. Does anyone have more info?
It works but I've found that it causes my phone to stay awake, so I've turned it off. I'd rather lose 1-3% overnight and not 8-10%.

Gave it a try and re enabled wifi calling preferred. I'll post an update, but the error usually takes a few days before showing up.
My Wi-Fi calling was working fine, then I flashed the update to 6.0.1 and it doesn't work at all. It's enabled in settings, strong WiFi signal, but it never indicates Wi-Fi calling.
I had the opposite experience, I updated to 6.0.1 and now WiFi Calling is a lot more reliable than before. Still not perfect, but much better.
