I now realize that the only thing my Captivate was better at was gaming. And not because of the screen. There's so many glitches in most/all of the high end games, making them unplayable. And its not just the multitouch bug - I dont hold my fingers down for that long. In modern combat every 5 seconds my guy turns around 180°. And in Dungeon Defenders my screen will bug out a just go crazy when I die. Which happens a lot because my guy moves like he teleports 5 steps in front of him instead of walking.
I though this Tegra chip was supposed to help? Especially because the dungeon defenders game IS a tegra game.

Can't play good games that I paid for.
Your phone is probably defective. I recommend returning it.
I really can't do that... this is my fourth one. 1st, gps wouldn't work, second a 1x4 area on top of screen wouldn't click, third froze up like my Captivate. This one has been perfect, until I started to get my old games that I had on the Captivate running, and found this out.
I'd rather not return it, and probably get a worse one.
Well tell me about it I went through 6 Atrix in 30 days lol but I am happy with this one now.
These games are being updated as we go along and they just don't support Tegra2 processors yet but it will be fine in another 30-60days or so.

Tennis no offense but these games are phone specific in many ways and you know this so complain tot he manufacturer for results not us.
Oh, so you're saying it's kinda like the AT&T thing? They advertise as 4G, but they're still working on it?
That would kinda of make sense I guess... so in future updates the Tegra chip will become utilized?
I have not had any of the issues you are talking about. Dungeon Defenders HD/Delux runs flawless on my Atrix. Do you have the most up to date version? And did you get the app legally or bootleg version?
Bought it through the market. Its the tegra version too.

I can't comment on Dungeon Defenders, but anyone able to play Monster Madness? That game lags like no other when I'm playing it. Biggest waste of money...
Maybe the overclocking will fix it, but still, you shouldn't have to OC.
EDIT: This is specific, but anyone able to get FPSe working (specifically FF7)? It runs great except for screen transitions/entering battle; it will slow down tremendously during these scenes. It's funny though, because my frames per second remains at around 60 even when the screen and sound are slowing down.

I play dungeon defenders, and it runs silky smooth on my phone. never had a bug. actually playing it right now. The only time I have issues is when the server messes up (not my problem................ or is it, AT&T/MOTOROLA, hmm?)
try installing the big file for Dungeon defenders manually from their website to make sure you have the right file
I am seriously fed up with ram being too low on this mobile....for example playing nova and then just coming back to check text message and the game crashes not to mention touch wiz crashes too.... I miss gs2 where there were no such problems... I just hope that gs4 will have atleast 2gb ram...i always have just 100 mb free... I have got about 90 games and apps on my mobile ...its also silly when people say free ram is wasted ram that's so wrong... I have an iPad 3 and I Always have 720 mb free memory as per sbsettings menu...I wish we had this much in sgs3....
Update :
this is what i mean by less ram c how the game crashed when one goes to the browser and then back to game on SGS3

after playing nova 3 for half an hour, go back to home screen open browser go to xda page browse for 5 mins then again go to the game and let me know if it crashes or not...don't get me wrong I absolutely adore gs3 but less ram does have an impact .. M on stock rom no root...
u should seriously learn about/what RAM is all about. RAM FUNCTIONS BETTER AT FULL CAPACITY
Free ram is wasted ram. Repeating what you are sick of hearing because it's true. Ios and Android use different memory management so you aren't really comparing apples for apples (excuse the pun). Ios has horrible memory management, if you don't close your apps before opening new ones the memory fills up and the phone slows down. Maybe I'm wrong and they fixed it in the 4s but it was a problem for some time.
I play angry birds, temple run, and gun brothers. I have 102 apps, TouchWiz hasn't crashed once and the phone only lags if I'm doing very intensive stuff like restoring 102 apps with titanium backup.
I've said it in other threads and I'm sticking by my opinion that your problems are almost certainly caused by something other than lack of ram.
This is Samsung's flagship phone, it's currently the most desirable phone on the market, would Samsung really be dumb enough to engineer an iPhone killer that lags like poop because it hasn't got enough ram? No, they put 1gb in it because it's all the phone needs.

Deal with it....it is what it is, you knew it had 1gb of ram when you bought the damn phone! So you have no valid reason to complain!!

At a certain point of used ram your system will lag.
Check this post, linked from this thread which gives a nice solution to experiment the best RAM management you can decide for yourself.
Guys u r missing the point ... the phone does not lag .. its the multitasking which is the problem with having less ram...i will post a video to show what i mean

To be honest, that video seemed to demonstrate a very nice transition from the game to the browser and from the browser back to the game. Looks like the game itself doesn't respond well to the switch.

Thats my point too the sgs3 is blazingly fast but the multitasking is not upto par with sgs2 nor ipad3 ... i will post a vid of multitask on ipad 3 just for the sake of comparison...
Light multitasking is very much possible with sgs3 but m only concerned with heavy multitasking....
Fanboys will always spout technical rubbish to defend their products and ignore the fact that tech facts or no, the phone is not working as intended.
If you want to run 2 3 4 or 5 apps in memory and multitask between them, you need enough RAM to do it. If your ram is full, and you try and run another app, the one before it will be closed, hence no multitasking. IF the operating system was smaller, so the useful apps filled the memory, the full ram thing would be fine, but it uses most the ram leaving nothing for anything else.
People come on and admit it, SGS3 needs more RAM, in fact the SGS2 reloaded the home screen from time to time too and so does the One X, but the SGS3 uses almost all it's RAM just for core apps leaving nothing for the juicy ones.
Custom Roms, Checkrom and Foxhound both eliminate (to my testing so far), the Nova home screen reloading, but apps still have to reload after you've gone to another app due to low memory.
As it stands, the only way to use this phone almost the way it should be used, especially if you demand the very best from your phones, is via a custom rom.
I have also posted a comparison of how iPad 3 multitasks better... Oh and on ipad1 multitasking sucked coz of RAM because it had only 120 mb user available ram.... So I seriously hope galaxy s4 atleast has 2 gb ram or atleast better memory management ....
I think what it comes down to is that the phone doesn't need more ram, touchwiz needs to go on a diet.
It is horribly bloated and Samsung need to trim it a lot.
I get they want it to be unique when compared to other phones but it would save them money, and deliver a better end user experience if they went with vanilla android, ESPECIALLY with how jellybean looks. Wishful thinking I suspect.
I flashed cm9 to it two days ago after finally getting sick of tw, it's pretty, has a good personality and is smart, but its a fat pig and there's no getting past that.
Free ram is wasted ram but also it is important that the ram that is used isn't filled with crap tw services.
Running cm9 and I have 300mb free ram right now, swapping between this and chrome and poweramp. Win!

Real Racing 3 looks as good as any other phone, is completely smooth for me. And I'm no casual gamer like some of you lot. I can tell the difference between 30/45/60 fps and tell when it happens.
IronMan 3 is working fine for me, it stutters a bit when entering the menus, but while playing it is very smooth and fast.
Real Racing 3 is running at 25-30 fps, but it keeps the same framerate along all the game with no stutters or noticeable drops.

The only stutter that I've noticed on Real Racing 3 is at the starting grid, before the start, when there's more than 10 cars ready to go...
for Iron Man 3, the further the distance you're flying, the more the game will stutter. And yes the menu is not very fluid either.

With the GTA games, it will probably be the developer's fault that they haven't flagged it as compatible with devices with the Z's resolution/dpi.

Wow, try with inner camera, manual acceleration and brakes on the big races with lot of cars! The game stutters like hell, especially when the phone gets hot, and thermal control slows down cpu! I also can tell the difference in fps, and this is nowhere near to the satisfaction! It is a real shame, that the iphone 5 with far less raw power, can handle the game flawless! Put them side by side, and see the difference for yourself! And please, don't tell me that IOS is better by default in games! This is no excuse! That is not a good job done by the developer, or i am start to thinking that, the FullHD is too high for our CPU-GPU?!

I purchased GTA III and Vice City two weeks ago for my Z (damn i missed the special offer), and had no problems downloading, installing or playing. Now if i go to Play store it says Vice City is not compatible with my phone. Maybe they discovered some nasty bug and dropped compatibility until they relase an update. I play it and it works very well for me.
GTA III is still flagged as compatible though.
The fifa companion app and age if empires also stutters and lags.

I'd have to agree with the people saying Real Racing 3 slows down bad on the Xperia Z. Most people who say that it runs fine probably just tried out the first three races. The first real test to see if the phone runs the games properly is by playing the first endurance race; if you manage to go through that race without slowdowns at the end, then, let's say I'd like to know how you set your phone.
That said, all is not lost for Xperia Z users for that game. I did what most people would consider stupid and google'd how I could configure graphic settings of an app. I eventually found an app in Google Play that allows you to configure graphics settings for Real Racing 3; after setting it to medium, the game runs real well now. Turns out reflections are probably the resource hog that causes slowdowns.
So far, games I've tried that slow down in the Xperia Z:
- Real Racing 3 (unless you tweaked the graphics)
- Dungeon Defenders (when you're dealing with huge waves)
I'm asking about how this phone scores with graphic intensive games and whether it gets hot(after a certain duration) while playing such games. Is thermal throttling really an issue or is it a faulty unit thing? Supposedly getting mine today, so I need to know.
I've been playing zombie gunship and dots all day...both absolutely destroy my battery life but it dies not get that warm, at least no throttling. Maybe more demanding games will hurt....really missing my n4 and Franco kernels per app CPU speed
Got it
I've just bought it and used it for a little while downloading stuff and it got a little warm.. hmm

The first day and a half after getting this device out of the box it got kinda warm in the back, not on the screen though. After that period of time though i havent had a problem with heat so maybe it has something to do with being a new device out of the box? Now it stays cool and just gets a little warm here and there, not much though, but it seems normal.
Please, someone, point out a device that is quad core even running max speeds of just 1.5ghz and does not get hot after 20+min of graphics intense gaming with no breaks. Anyone? That's what i thought, people should try to understand this before complaining. This device is i believe 2.4ghz in speed with quad core snap dragon 800. My HTC One X+ with Tegra 3 chip "made for gaming" only allows me to play a graphics intense game like dead trigger for 20min then the device shuts down! Yes it shuts down because the device gets too hot for itself, blinks red notification light, then a minute or so later shuts itself off so it doesn't blow up.
Mobile gaming has come a long way for sure. Mobile gaming hardware wise has not, obviously! Sure this device could probably play Diablo 3 with 50 FPS but for maybe only 20min before it gets red hot! I think cellphone compaines should address this and make the devices available to "breath" just like a PC machine would. Sure we can't have a "fan" in these devices to cool them off but when you're running a quad core device on 2.4ghz of speed that's practically a damn laptop! Now imagine that laptop running full bore with zero fan to cool it down and zero ventilation. How long could u run that laptop under those conditions before it gets way too hot???
Gaming is AMAZING on this screen is good , the gpu has power to drive whatever.
MC4 actually runs buttery smooth , something my s3 couldnt do.
Riptide GP2 plays beautifully with the graphics all set to high. The water effects look sick

My i9505 stutters in all games, literally all. Even lighter ones like subway surfers, vector, mini motor racing. It drops a couple of frames randomly every few seconds, its 60 but then drops to 57 or 53 and then immediately goes back up.
Heavier games like Vice City, San Andreas, NFS Most Wanted, Iron Man 3, Dead Trigger, Dead Trigger 2, Shadowgun Dead Zone lag and stutter like hell.
NFS MW gets from 25 to 35 fps, GTA VC goes over 30 but often even drops slightly below 20. GTA SA gets 30 max with it stuttering and dropping to around 20. Dead Trigger 2 and Shadowgun DZ get 30 fps but every couple of seconds it suddenly drops to like 28/25/23 and then quickly goes up. Modern Combat 4 goes below 30 as well.
Anyone else with this problem? Or it's just me? Any solutions?

I wouldn't say I am having the same problems but DT2 simply won't budge from 35fps on any setting except ultra, which has its frame rate cap go up to 60. Weird.

And no matter what settings I set exactly the same fps and stutters. I don't get it. Haven't seen more than 30 fps in any game except in games like Angry Birds and Vector.

... Are you willing to wipe your phone? It might be worth a try.
Alternatively, see if you can reinstall the games (although I doubt that will work).
I don't have 4.3 (running 4.2.2), so I wouldn't know a workaround for your firmware. :/
I have a feeling its about optimization from the developers of the games and not our hardware throttling. Just like how subway surfers will never get 60fps even on the iPhone 5s but the 5s flies with other games. I honestly believe our S4 is capable of running games like GTA at 60fps just fine.

Yea that seems to be the problem. That is the only thing that could explain the same exact stutters and low fps no matter which rom, frequency, settings you use. I guess I should've gone with I9500, looks like it's the only one getting games optimized for when it comes to s4.

lol just checking. It has happend before
I am extremely frustrated with this issue!
I am coming from an S3 and I never had any lag problems with any games! On the i9505, with most games, even less-demanding ones such as PvZ2, after 5 minutes of playing, it starts lagging like hell. Also the phone gets really really hot in the upper part.
I have KT kernel and the KTweaker app, but don't know what exactly to change. Can someone please tell me some settings for this?
why gs4 prevent lag during exection
Galaxy S4 always lag during playing all type of games because of overclocking. I notice Htc one is the same specs interms of cpu/gpu but it is totaly perfect with zero lag so the reason is the gs4 overclock to the speed of 1.9 instead 1.7 like HTC one.
Hi please refer on this thread. It might help you. I had the same issue until it was resolved. ?☺ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2773601
