I need some basic animation help. - Android Software Development

I've got a pretty simple idea for a graphic that I want in my app and artist who draws great stuff, but doesn't know about animation. I want a stork to fly across the top of my screen (slowly) an drop a blanket (implying a baby inside) that falls down the screen to land on a mans head, then the man sinks off the bottom of the screen.
Can anyone explain the basics of what I need for my app? Do I want my artist to create a gif file (is a gif file like a cartoon movie???), or is there a better way to do it?
Thanks for any help.

If you follow these guides it can give you a good understanding of how to get a custom boot animation going. In essence, you must have a bootanimation.zip file composing of a desc.txt file that tells at what resolution and frames per second to play a series of jpg images that simulates a video.
Good luck,

Basically you can go for a series of Animated sprite (in png, frame-by-frame) and so basic transformation animation on them. It sounds to me that most of what you want to achieve could be done with Android's animation framework.

Contact Picture Size

How can I increase the size of the picture (associated with a contact) on the phone screen?
At the moment pictures are less than 1cm square
Thanks for any advice
chicago
yeah id be interested in expanding that pic size as well so bumpty bump.
you know who I think we need on the case?
VJ....
Guys, if you're doing this on a QVGA screen (and maybe VGA), then assuming you're using either the eten, HTC or similar phone dialer skin extension, load it up into Visual Studio (or any resource hacker) and edit the dialogs, and find the image for the contact image. Enlarge to your heart's content. Save, sign (if necessary), reload onto your phone and bask in the glory.
This is all theoretical, I don't use my Universal as a phone, but I have edited the skins and the theory is sound. JGUI's green catepillar project shows what you can do with this idea.
Buzz's site has more detail on the concept (I think).
If necessary, I could write a hacker to do it without resource hacking, but it wouldn't be to everyone's taste, so I haven't.
V
Thank you VJ....
But I'm still in the dark ;o(
hrmm as I suspected your the man for the job, but like the other guy im lost as to what you were on about.
Everytime I have tried to resourcehack the universal files they never re-read on the universal once I put em back....
In any case, can you further help us, plz.
And yes were talking about this on the universal, well I am, I use mine as a phone amongst other things.

Convert SWF -> GIF for Splah/Main screen. How?

Guyz,
Someone knows how can I convert a .SWF to .GIF with the same quality? I tried, but the program that I used reduced too much the flash's quality.
And other problem: it must be 240x320. The original flash has 792x650. I don't want to resize, cos all the flash, specility the HTC's icon, resize too (of course). I want to convert to .GIF and, then, cut to 240x320. On this way, the icon will be the same big size.
But first: is it possible to use a .GIF animation for a Main/Splash screen, isn't it?
Links for .SWF file (98kb). I catched from HTC TyTN's site.

Thanx for your reply...
I could probably make it happen if you linked me to the SWF. AVI is a lossy format.
Also, why is it upside down?

I really don't know... I used 'Sothink SWF to Video Converter' and, after the convertion, the .AVI is upside down... :\
Do you just want the HTC icon because it is out there already..
Ok I got the flash file. http://www.htc.com/flash/tytn_web/in_01r.swf now what do you want? Cause I can use my extractor and grab it all.
Here is just a jpg... what exactly do you want?

Thanx for the icons, but what I really want, and I don't know if it is possible, is an animated .GIF with: HTC's Icon + Green bar animated below + "Loading..." flashing. I did this .GIF with 'Sothink SWF to Video Converter', but the quality was horrible.
Then, when I turn on my device, the main/subslash screen would be similar the HTC's site flash. Course, the percentual loading will not change, and the green bar either, but it could be any number (37%, for exemple) and a fixed size bar. But what I think it would be very interesting are the animated green bar and "Loading..." flashing, giving the impression that the device is controlling the animation.
I tried with Sothink SWF Quicker and Decompiler, but it didn't work for what I want. I tested with PhotoShop, but it didn't support animated .GIFs...
I really don't know how I can do this... :\
No probs...
No problem man.
Thanx a lot for your help...

iPhone Dialer Skins

I both registered and started this thread because I searched far and wide for something to replace that damn fish background on the iphone dialer skin. I found on post on something differing than the fish, and after a day of poking around I not only found the answer, but also made myself a new skin. Hopefully this thread will be where I post more skins, aside from the one I am going to show you guys. If there's already a thread for this, sorry, as I didn't see it when I ran a search.
Well, first off, the skin if controlled by a bunch of .bmp's in your windows directory of the phone. It's as simple as keeping the dimensions the same, but replace the buttons and backgrounds to get a new theme for the skin. It's a biotch, and is mostly repetitive work but the results are worth it. Especially if you use something like a Xv6700, where all the damn buttons are too small to use with your finger without the skin! Anyways the skin I made is only for the portrait portion of the phone. If you're like me, you never dial in landscape mode.
Here are a few pics of my skin. My next one will be a plain iPhone skin with blue. No fancy background pic.
I'll upload an RAR tonight of the pics needed to skin your phone to this skin. All you need to do is unzip them to the mydocuments portion of your phone, and then copy them over to windows, replacing the old files. I suggest you keep a copy of the old ones, just in case!
If you want to make your own skin, which is fairly easy to do, here are some tips.
1. Use the old images as a template to make sur your numbers and buttons are placed the same as the old skin.
2. For portrait skinning, you only need to skin the following files:
PCVdialerBkP
pcvdialerBkP_Inv
PcvdialerEnd
PCVdialerend_at
PCVdialererase
pcvdialererase_AT
PCVprogBkP
PCVprogcallhistory
PCVprogcallhistory_AT
PCVProghold_dis
Pcvprogmute_Dis
PCVprogspeakeroff
pcvspeakeroff_at
pcvprogswap
pcvprogswap_at
pcvprogtalk
pcvprogtalk_at
PCVprogUnhold
PCVprogunhold_at
pcvprogunmute
pcvprogunmute_at
pcvprogbkp_Inv
3.For the prog files, note the background file (bkp) all have 'end call' on the button, not talk! The talk file is handled by pcvprogtalk.
4. It's easiest to make the individual buttons by making the background, leaving it as a layer, and using a combination of invert color, flatten, and selecting the button before pasting over the image.
5. All of the files with _at at the end are how the button looks pressed, _dis is how the button will look 'switched' for things like the speaker.
Hope that helps!
Here is the skin completed. Only skinned for portrait! If you flip to landscape it will show the fishes. To install, simply extract, and copy the files to my documents on your phone while synced. Then, on the phone, copy them to /windows/ directory after backing up the files in windows first (You never know, even if they are just images).
Thanks.
Personally I dislike the background pic, however I do like the buttons.

Yea well I didn't make it with mass appeal in mind. More of a proof of concept? Besides I figured someone might find some use for it. If you have a suggestion I'm open to it.
Sure, I will see if I can find some background pic. Don't misunderstand me, it is pretty cool you post it for everyone to download. And sharing the proof of concept with us.

Entered in error. Sorry guys

psx boot for tp2!!

Copy two files to device and use advance config - htc animation - to edit the wav and gif as your startup boot animation
P.S.
First post, If need to change something for rules please PM. Just one of those noobs. thanks couldnt post links because of a anti-spam thing.....
Thanks for the boot sound and gif. Side note I was not aware of. Can't place these on the storage card. Probably most people knew this already...this is the first time I changed my EnergyRom settings. Easy fix...threw them in the windows folder.
Wish the .gif wasn't 'squished'. Resolution on the phone probably makes a better animation quite hard?
I have been messing with cropping the video to make it look better, ill post a better gif later
Can you make a xbox360 animation. I don't know how.

It has to be on your main memory, wont work on Storage Card.
why is the xbox one 15mbs? also the psx one is awesome!!!! reminded me of when i used to love the sound of that!!!!
oh I didnt see the size of it when i made it.
I would believe cuz gifs are just frames and there are bunch more frames for the xbox360 boot
Ill see about making it smaller in the future.
I've been also trying to find ideas for more boot screens, Ive been messing with animations. Please tell me what you think would be a good idea
Did you find a better looking PSX gif?

How about some movie splash screens, like MGM or New Line or something like that, you know how the screens from the begining of a movie.

[Q] How to create a splash screen detailed

Folks,
So I want to start working on a theme idea for my stock Imagio running TF3D 2.1, but have no idea how to get started.
Bit of information before suggestions start coming in. I have zero coding skills. The last coding I did was back in the 80's with COBAL and Extended Basic. So you can see how far removed I am.
I can't flash to a custom ROM, so need to remain with the stock Verizon ROM that came with the Imagio.
I do have speed tweaks and am using HDWall to create icons, sliders and what not.
But what I want to do is make a complete theme, including that startup screen as well as the power down screen. I can do icons and wallpapers using HDWall, but want to 'go all the way' with this.
Also, the animations would need to be pulled off the xbox console, and I have no video capabilites as well.
Am I a lost cause, or is there something out there, or someone willing to take on an 'apprentice'?
To get you started:
Startup.gif - this is the opening animation
welcomehead.png - this is the picture that is displayed after Startup.gif
Shutdown.gif - this is the shutdown animation
All files are in the Windows folder
jmart! Hows it going! So, I just need to replace those two? Got that. Now, how do I go about making the GIF file, and how many frames am I allotted before either it gets too long, or the system says its too big?
Doing great buddy, you?!
To be honest, I have never tried to make a gif. Windows probably doesn't care about the number of frames (how long it runs), worse case, it will just get cut short.
So far, I haven't had the issue with 2.1 that I ran into with 2.5, but like I said, I want to pound this by installing and uninstalling stuff, changing themes, just running it into the ground so that I can be sure there is nothing wrong with my system before I throw your CAB back on.
I do have to tell you, I am running around 80%, maxing out at 82% when S2P is running. And it seems a little snappier than 2.5, so I am thinking since I installed cookies right off the bat, that maybe there is something there with Cookies that is causing a glitch with my system.
So I will try and figure out how to make the GIF, I got a friend whos into video production, and another who is a computer genious, I mean smarter than Bill Gates when it comes to these things. Maybe I can get those two together to copy the opening sequence from my Xbox and put it into a GIF.
Thanks again! Little over a week and 2.5 will get another go!
That sounds cool!
Just a heads up, if you are talking about stock Sense on your Imagio, you have 2.0. 2.1 is available as a cab also though.

I was told I have 2.1! How do I know which one I do have? Maybe thats the issue, am I upgrading too many steps? Can you go 2.0 to 2.5?
The Imagio hasn't been upgraded past 2.0. The did upgrade the name from TF3D to Sense though in the MR1 update.
Going from 2.0 to 2.5 is exactly right
Well aint that a blip! That would also make sense as to why some of the clocks I have tried havent worked!
Thanks. Oh, and I like the look of your ROM, very nice!

Creating an animated GIF has never been easier, if you use MS GIF animator (it's freeware!). It's a very simple tool, as much in design as in usability, with which you will be able to create your own animated GIF in the blink of an eye. It doesn't even need any installation. All you need is to execute it, select the images you want to incluide in your GIF animation, modify the parameters that you want from the configuration, and all set! All of that via a thoroughly intuitive interface.
