Folks,
So I want to start working on a theme idea for my stock Imagio running TF3D 2.1, but have no idea how to get started.
Bit of information before suggestions start coming in. I have zero coding skills. The last coding I did was back in the 80's with COBAL and Extended Basic. So you can see how far removed I am.
I can't flash to a custom ROM, so need to remain with the stock Verizon ROM that came with the Imagio.
I do have speed tweaks and am using HDWall to create icons, sliders and what not.
But what I want to do is make a complete theme, including that startup screen as well as the power down screen. I can do icons and wallpapers using HDWall, but want to 'go all the way' with this.
Also, the animations would need to be pulled off the xbox console, and I have no video capabilites as well.
Am I a lost cause, or is there something out there, or someone willing to take on an 'apprentice'?
To get you started:
Startup.gif - this is the opening animation
welcomehead.png - this is the picture that is displayed after Startup.gif
Shutdown.gif - this is the shutdown animation
All files are in the Windows folder
jmart! Hows it going! So, I just need to replace those two? Got that. Now, how do I go about making the GIF file, and how many frames am I allotted before either it gets too long, or the system says its too big?
Doing great buddy, you?!
To be honest, I have never tried to make a gif. Windows probably doesn't care about the number of frames (how long it runs), worse case, it will just get cut short.
So far, I haven't had the issue with 2.1 that I ran into with 2.5, but like I said, I want to pound this by installing and uninstalling stuff, changing themes, just running it into the ground so that I can be sure there is nothing wrong with my system before I throw your CAB back on.
I do have to tell you, I am running around 80%, maxing out at 82% when S2P is running. And it seems a little snappier than 2.5, so I am thinking since I installed cookies right off the bat, that maybe there is something there with Cookies that is causing a glitch with my system.
So I will try and figure out how to make the GIF, I got a friend whos into video production, and another who is a computer genious, I mean smarter than Bill Gates when it comes to these things. Maybe I can get those two together to copy the opening sequence from my Xbox and put it into a GIF.
Thanks again! Little over a week and 2.5 will get another go!
That sounds cool!
Just a heads up, if you are talking about stock Sense on your Imagio, you have 2.0. 2.1 is available as a cab also though.

I was told I have 2.1! How do I know which one I do have? Maybe thats the issue, am I upgrading too many steps? Can you go 2.0 to 2.5?
The Imagio hasn't been upgraded past 2.0. The did upgrade the name from TF3D to Sense though in the MR1 update.
Going from 2.0 to 2.5 is exactly right
Well aint that a blip! That would also make sense as to why some of the clocks I have tried havent worked!
Thanks. Oh, and I like the look of your ROM, very nice!

Creating an animated GIF has never been easier, if you use MS GIF animator (it's freeware!). It's a very simple tool, as much in design as in usability, with which you will be able to create your own animated GIF in the blink of an eye. It doesn't even need any installation. All you need is to execute it, select the images you want to incluide in your GIF animation, modify the parameters that you want from the configuration, and all set! All of that via a thoroughly intuitive interface.

UPDATE: 4-16-09 Tried an update on the Wait cursor only cab
UPDATE 3-30-09: added the registry entries for battery in waitcursor skin
added wait cursor only cab. If someone can tell me who made the original taskbar, I will give full credit in this post. Thanks
updated dialer skin(thid will only work on VGA devices with HTC or ATT slide dialer.
The purpose of this thread is to keep skin discussions and ideas for the Energy ROM in one location, and to save space on NRGZ28's thread.
I am working on skinning some components for the ENergy ROM, full list will be at bottom. I'm basically trying to add to the already great look of the ROM without adding too much(like the Elite project which looks great). Please post any ideas, and if you are graphically talented at all you can help out in the process. I am planning on making a few variations on some skins for people to choose from. These may or may not be cooked into the ROM, or even better installed during customization for people who like the plain old stuff
I am very busy right now moving from QVGA to VGA, and have my fingers into all sorts of stuff(skinning, ROM cooking, and some other things). Any help with skinning would be greatly appreciated. I have a great deal of knowledge for skinning almost all aspects of Winmo, so if you want to skin something but are not sure how to go about it just ask. There are some great tutorials and resources at www.SkinZone.org if you haven't been there yet, I suggest to have a look. There is a great team of skinners there and we are all willing to help with any issues you might have.
Please use this thread as a central meeting place to discuss ideas and share skins that will go good with the Energy ROM. Sorry if I missed something, I made a really nice thread yesterday, but it was lost in the fire(XDA was hacked or something yesterday)
Progress so far:
-Wait Cursor: Made this for Energy ROM, but decided to share as most of the kitchens I have been using include the same taskbar icons and stuff. The attatched cab is a full taskbar replacement, as well as the cursor. This uses no additional RAM or programs, as it is just replacing the stock items.
-"White" Energy wallpaper: This is most likely going to be used as a background image for Dialer, Commanager, Thumbcal, etc. I am posting it here incase any skinners on the same ROM would like to help out.
-Dialer: Uploaded second test dialer. Should flow better with the call history up top.
To Come:
In no specific order, I bounce around a lot so whatever gets done first gets done.
-Full dialer with in call and curtain
-Communication manager. Need some help on this. The new Rhodium Commanager with enhancements uses a different background than the Diamond or Kaiser commanager. Diamond one uses P_BG.png, which I found and changed but has no effect on this commanager for some reason. Anybody with a cab or OEM of this? Is it someything built into the new manilla? if so can you point me to tje right manilla file?
-iContactBE: Using some of the new notification icons and colors to compliment the new Manilla interface
-Thumcal: again to compliment the new Manilla and incorporate the "White" Energy BG
-PocketCM Keyboard
-Windows Media Player skin
-TP2 Calculator
-Resco Explorer\Registry
-Opera Splash Screen
-suggestions?
Skins I would like to see from others( feel free to skin the above list as well)
-PocketCM contacts
-Yota dialer/contact replacement
-S2U2
-Opera?
-Anything you wanna skin
Please see following posts for screens. I will update this thread as needed(when I have time) If you post a skin you can PM me and I will add it to the first page. I'll be attatching items wherever for now until the collection grows.

Sory, didnt realize I needed to add the registry entries for batery. Should be a cab floating around in the "FlenixNover customizing taskbar thread". Updating the cab now. should be ready in about 15 minutes. If someone could tell me the creator of the original taskbar icons, I would like to give credit in the first post.

Awesome. I will have to cook this stuff in the next release...
Thanks NRG, making this stuff special for your ROM, since thats the one I like until I figure out how to cook all those goodies in myself
Anyone using the Energy ROM, please do post opinions on some of this stuff so we can get a good looking ROM. Don't want to just hear " I dont like this" or "I dont like that", if you dont like it either post a suggestion or skin it yourself.
jmckeejr.... from PA.... you would not happen to have a relative named Joannie would you?
Not really sure. Haven't been to the family reunion in like 10 years.
JM,
Here is what I came up with for MWC 3. Hope you like it!
I started doing that, then got sidetracked. Looks good, I stopped using MWC because the transparent parts would stick sometimes. I mean when I switched to a different program or page there would be a square where the transparency was. Is that fixed in the new version?
hey bud I think your doing awesome work please keep it up

That was a problem with 2.2. So far, I haven't seen it with 3. There is also an option to set up a 'time out' on the cursor, so it stops after the length of time that you set it for.
hey i just noticed that when i installed just the new wait cursor you made, it works and all but sometimes you see the old wm spin wheel behind it....it flickers behind it thus making you see both of them which is odd...that shouldn't happen. so i just wanted to point that out to you so that it can be fixed cause that wait cursor sir.....is FANTASTIC!!!
P.S.---- I was wondering can you make a cab file with just the new icons for the stuff you see in the settings etc...they come along in the topbar wait cursor cab but i would just like those seperate if possible!! THANX A MIL!!

I'll look into the dll file in the wait only cab/. Maybe I left an old image in there or something, couldnt test it. Gonna be busy a couple days though, so I would suggest to use the full one for now. I cant stand the stock icons up top. I dont know if I should cab up just the icons, cuz I didnt make em. If you wanted you could just extract the files and overwrite them into your windows folder. phcanpverbmp.dll, tapres.dll, and I think I have outres.dll in there. I do plan on continuing this stuff, but right now I'm sort of trying to learn how to cook my own ROMs.
I'd like to be able to cook a ROM with all the core apps I use. Not having a problem cooking them, its just trying to get all the updated packages from rhodium that are already ported. I need a few more and then I can really start. And then I can cook in all the skins from skinzone.org as well.
Hi jmckeejr,
Having a look at the jmckeejr_waitcursor.zip that you posted on the Raphael OEM Repository. Noticed that the .RGU file seems to be adjusting the Battery registry settings.
Are these .RGU settings actually required or can I simply replace Shellres.192.dll.0409.mui with your version to get the wait cursor? Reason I ask is that I am using the TP2 Color Icons which change the registry settings for the battery.
Cheers,
Hey there all you themers and skinners out there,
Is there a way to change just the clock panel in a WM6.5 theme without having to create a whole new theme? Like, can I just replace some files, and maybe deselect/select the theme again, and the clock will change? I'm looking for just some big bold numbers without that obnoxious analog icon that doesn't change. Or, if there's an analog clock panel that DOES change, that would work too.
I liked the clock look in Ivan's JustHome, but I just recently (today) switched to StripTease: Lots to Love, which has the classic black theme. I like everything in that theme (and the ROM) except that analog clock.
Any tips?
Thanks.
Just use M2DC. Go to the "Home xml" tab and deselect analog clock and make sure digital clock is selected.

Is M2DC a resource hog? I'm already under 20MB at startup with the other crap I installed on this ROM.
Not really, it just changes a couple things in the files, you don't have to run it in the background.
Besides, you can't really use a Manila2D ROM and then complain about free RAM. There aren't really any M2D ROMs out there with more than 22mb free on a fresh flash. If you want alot of RAM, you have to sacrifice Manila altogether and just go with Titanium.

Yeah, I guess that becomes the question then. Right now I'm using Titanium (StripTease: Lots to Love) and enjoying it aside from the clock (which I realize is being very nitpicky). Further research yesterday showed me that I should have shifted my focus from finding panels to finding plug-ins. I tried two (CAnalog Clock and CDigiClock), both of which seemed to slow my phone down more than the regular clock, but I discovered last night that CAnalog Clock didn't completely uninstall and was still in Windows/StartUp. It could have been that parts of it were still being loaded along with CDigiClock. I removed all parts of CAnalog I could find, and am going to give CDigiClock another shot today.
Does anyone else use a different Titanium clock plug-in?

OMFG. I don't know what the heck is wrong with me the last couple days. For some stupid reason I was thinking that Lots to Love was a manila2d ROM and not Titanium. Sorry for that
Um, did you try the CHeroClock? I'm not sure if that's the same thing as CDigiClock or not, but I can tell you the reason they all make your phone slower is probably because they run on MortScript, which is most likely installed from the clock cab. There's not alot you can do about it besides keep track of your memory and overclock your phone. The only other way to change it is to do some pretty heavy cpr and xml editing that is way beyond my skill level.

I think CDigiClock is the same as CHeroClock, but I'll give it a shot just in case. And yeah, MorScript is correct. I've overclocked to 240, and I'm definitely not ready for CPR editing. XML maybe. But probably not.
Thanks for the info.
Hi all, total newb here.
I have a new Tilt 2 from AT&T and I'm in way over my head here with changing things around (first smart phone). I've been searching these board for several days, trying different things, but I'm not having much luck. Basically, all I want to do is get rid of all the blue on the TF3D. Anyway to do this?
I'd really love a simple, sleek black theme going. I tried the Dusk theme from another thread, but that didn't work. So, in short: Is there a simple, newb-friendly way to change all that blue to black?
Thanks for the time.
I've been digging around quite a bit, and it looks like there's no easy way to do this. So I've been playing with the manila editor I found on these boards, and I have a few questions for anyone who can help me out here.
1. I have found and copied all the manilla files from the phone. I am assuming all I need to do is simply alter the images and replace, correct?
2. In trying to replace the images - changing blue to black with a color replacement tool in Photoshop - I am having an issue with image quality once the file is converted back to a manila file. Here's what happens: I save the original manila file as a .png. I then alter this file by changing it from blue to black. Then I use the manila editor to replace the file. HOWEVER - after I replace the file, the image becomes horribly dithered. This also happens if I save as a .jpg. Any way to retain image quality when converting back to a manila file?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help out.
get MaxManilla and install HDWalls
make a background using HDWalls (save the image to use as theme background so you can see it under "start" too) and apply it.
I have a tilt2 and I flashed to leo energy with dusk... love the switch !
edit:
you can also try applying the HQ Wallpaper patch
Rajinn, thanks for the response. If I may pick your brain for a moment...
When you say "flashed to leo energy with dusk," what does that entail, exactly? (total n00b, remember?) What, exactly, does flashing to leo energy accomplish? Is this something a beginner can accomplish without destroying the phone?
Looking around at the non-AT&T Rhodium, I would be very happy with the standard TF3D black version, but I'll entertain other ways to get something similar. That blue Touchflo is just too... blue.
Thanks!
Alternatively, if this is easier:
Is there a way to change my blue AT&T TF3D to the standard, non-AT&T black TF3D?

When he said "flashed to leo energy with dusk", he means he flashed to EnergyROM "Leo" (The ROM version) with the "MaxManila Dusk" Manila (aka TF3D) theme. While flashing a custom ROM, like EnergyROM, is pretty safe and has many benefits (such as faster overall speed and a superior user experience), you might not want to try it right away if you're still a bit new to your phone. I recommend you get a good feel for Windows Mobile and the Tilt2 before exploring more advanced options such as custom ROMs.
I would also follow his suggestion of using HDwalls. I've never used it myself, but it's very popular among the boards. There are also premade wallpapers here if you don't want to make your own. If you want to change the bottom slider with all the tabs, you might try this website for premade sliders.
Have had a Tilt 2 for a while now, and wanted to know the same thing. The highlight color is blue on the clock and other things and I hate it too. But I haven't found a way to change them yet. Tried HDwalls and some other stuff. Will end up flashing, just waiting for the right ROM to surface. Sorry. A far as mine tho only highlight is blue, Clear clock,no lines, curtians, sliders, ect...

I agree, and thanks for the advice. I'd be way in over my head if I tried it and I don't think it's worth the hassle.
I did manage to replace my blue clock, and hopefully I can replace the blue slider. With those two changes, I can definitely live with the remaining blue highlights.
(I now have a transparent clock with the white numbers. If anyone has a link or a .cab file for the stock black background clock with white numbers, I'd be grateful. The transparent is cool, but not quite what I'm after)
Thanks all!

When I still used Sense 2.1, this worked for me.
working on a tmo version of what you are describing...
... But the trouble is that there are so many image files that need to be converted. also, I agree abou the image quality. in fact, I found that the best way to go about changing images for TF3D is doing the complete oposite of what I was describing in my thread (signature).
the only way to make it look good is to dither it further, or make a design that uses no gradients (yes even a B&W gradient turns out bad). I am not sure why that is. maybe because winmo only supports 8 or 32 bit, and does not support 16 or 24 bit.
I have already changed my slider button from blue to black, but it is a completely different image. and yes, I had to complicate the image a lot for it to look half way decent. I kinda miss M2D in a way because if it.

Thank you, I'll give that one a try this evening.
S.V.I: That slider button is the one thing that's driving me nuts. (Well, until it's changed, then something else will come along )
So I understand the process of changing images - once I alter an image using the Manila editor and replace the manila file with the new image, do I simply replace the manila file in the /windows directory?
If so, I noted that I do not have permissions to do a copy & replace (Total Commander needed, right?). Could I simply delete the original manila file and then paste the new file (so no copy/overwrite is needed)?
Thanks!

When you finally get tired of it, which you probably will, read up on flashing. If you read in the forums for days before asking a question, read on. Flashing, to me, is more benefial than keeping the stock ROM. IF AND ONLY IF, you get a good ROM that has no issues, and stick with it. For those of us who like to flash often, it is more of a hobby to test others work, than for us to use. But if you see a great ROM that you absolutely love the look of it, read read read, and flash flash flash. Be sure to ask as many questiosn as possible before flashing, so you don't mess nothing up though.
slider buttons. hopefully they uploaded bu opera.
these are the sliders buttons that I made. sorry i can not upload any photos. dont have them. but you can try them and see which suits you. just make sure that you disable manila before installing and uninstalling them.

To be clear...are you talkign about the color of the clock tiles themselves, directly behind the letters? Or the background (wallpaper) on the home tab?
At first I thought you meant the border around the bottom half of the clock, where the weather shows up...but you shouldn't have that on a 6.1 ROM..
the two tone gray background of the clock itself, if it is at all possible without changing the clock numbers. I can swipe my finger "up" and then the numbers on the clock become smaller and the background goes away....thats what im after. and thanks for not railing on me, I may have alot of posts but 97% or more are questions lol but im getting better.

No problem What you're talking about is the clock tiles, and they are certainly replacable with custom ones. The trick is determining exactly what version of TF3D or Sense you have, you'll have to know that to know which custom clocks to look for and download.
Do you have an "About" entry on the "settings" tab? If so it'll tell you what version you have. If you don't see that there, you can just look it up in the registry (I'll show you where)...do you have a regedit app? (Total Commander, PHM_regedit, etc)
this is why i never delve too much into this stuff but am starting to. way too much stuff to keep up with while trying to run my own buisness, thanks for your help

I dug around in some clock files and found this for you to try, there is no guarantee that it will work as i cant test it for you, but i looked at in with CFC gui and it looks promising!
It might be a good idea to back up the same file in your rom,
Untick manila in "home settings" then copy the file using TC or something
retick manila and it should show.
I hope it works for you

Ok yeah I have the same version as Tregrad (TF3D 2.1), and that manila file worked just fine on mine when I tested it...it makes the clock tiles 100% transparent.
However, getting that manila file into the right place on your phone takes a little doing...do you (Tregrad) know how to copy files into and out of your phone's /windows directory?
Maybe someone would be willing to cab that up for you to make it easier...but if not, we can show you how to get it on there and working.

You tested and it works ok? I can cab it up later ( i'm not on pc right now), where does it want to be? just straight into Windows folder? I would have cab'd it staight away but thought someone had better test it first!
so should i wait for the cab or what? or can i just drop the file in the windows directory? and thanks again for your help fellas.

if you can just drop in the windows folder, there's no real need for a cab just makes it more convenient is all! go ahead and try it out i'm dying to know if it works! See if you can find the matching file first and back it up though...I would
ok will give it a shot right now
no change at all hmmm copied orig file and put it in a folder on my pc and "replaced" existing file with the new one and rebooted but nothing happened.

Start...settings...today..items... will get you there
dont even have an option to untick manilla
Ok heres the Cab, sorry for the delay!!
there must be a tick box in "Items" Under today settings, and it will be Manila or TF3d or something HTC related! its been so long since i used this ROm i can't remember
So untick whatever it is and then install the cab then retick and it should have overwritten....Good Luck
ok tf3d is ticked, I am going to try the file thing first then if that doesnt work then i will try the cab, thanks.
nope, none of it worked. unticked, ran cab, wanted to restart - let it do so, restarted then re-ticked tf3d and nothing happened?
should i delete the existing file? if it isnt there then it wont want to run it right and since i just want it gone it wouldnt hurt right?
I have to go for now be back in a few hours. thanks again for all your efforts os!

The "OMG, I can't believe this actually worked on my T-Mobile USA HD2!" Discussion.
So, quite recently on Twitter, I've been informing my followers of things I've tried, managed to accomplish, and/or various ideas on tweaks that I'd like to attempt in the future.
Now, with that in mind...
I'd like to present this thread as an open-discussion topic, to further the common knowledge of everyday users and "1337 h4xz0Rz" alike.
Please, feel free to share a "success story" of something you've managed to make possible on your HD2. Whether it be a registry tweak, theme, custom ROM, or various modifications... be sure to offer as much detailed information as you can, allowing other users to perhaps share in the same experiences.
More-or-less, this is where TESTS, TRIAL-RUNS, and COST/BENEFIT ANALYSIS will meet in terms of what CAN and simply CANNOT be done... SAFELY on our devices.
hmm well it wasn't very "1337" but I was pretty happy that I could edit the registry to make TouchTwit blink the LED when I get mentions/msgs.

1) Open registry editor
2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications
3) There will be a lot of GUID entry folders. Find the one that corresponds to the notification you want to alter. When you open the folder, the (Default) value, if set, is the name of the notification that corresponds to the control panel value.
4) Change AvailableOptions from 11 to 15
5) Hit start->settings->Sounds & Notifications->Notifcations
6) Scroll to the notification type you just changed (for me, "TouchTwit: Mentions")
7) The box "flash light for [x]" will no longer be greyed out
Great find. Definitely worth mentioning. This is the kind of stuff we need on here. Thanks for the submission.
reignzone- I would like to know if it is possible to increase the vibe alert intensity on the TmoUS HD2? I did a search and was not able to find anything. I switched from a Razr V3 which had a strong vibe alert. Also, I successfully flashed to HSPL2 and just waiting for a stock rom to flash new rom. Thanks
Can anyone walk me through dumping my stock TmoUS rom so I can post it here which will provide everyone a way to revert to shipped rom?

Well, in terms of vibration intensity... that is usually application specific. The system vibration alerts cannot really be tampered with as far as I know. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. There are applications, "modded" applications that provide various system tweaks that can alter the vibration... but not too many of them are focused on something so "simple" as vibrating alerts.
As for a system dump, that would be excellent. Post in a few other threads in this area, and I'm sure you'll find people that would be glad to assist you in providing that for us all.

Maybe one of you can figure out how to use this program. Good Luck
i installed dusk theme on my tmous hd2 seems to be working fine. i think it even fixed a problem i've been having since day one where it doesnt come back from sleep. so far haven't had to soft restart. i also installed a few other files from the uk version and they seemed to work ok. also all the registy tweaks work fine.

Good stuff guys. Again, thanks for additional feedback.
As for Dusk, yes... I've taken quite a few bits and pieces from that theme and used it on my STOCK build. For instance, the retractable slider themed with Dusk features.
I'm so glad we're finally moving this T-Mobile USA forum along now, it needs more attention from the EURO threads.
I can use my HD2 to watch any videos from my file server.

That's pretty sweet man, pretty sweet. How'd you manage that?
I don't mean to toot my own horn here, but I just installed and tested quite literally, every transparent home tab slider from the guys at PPCMods.
And needless to say, each one of them worked, flawlessly. Also, they all look just gorgeous. But after testing "the look" of most all of them... I fell in love with the Colorful Stickers icons. Simple, HUGE, and great design.
Finally, the clock fonts are phenomenal as well... check those out too.

Pretty simple - just get the HTC Networking add-on or (I use) Resco Explorer & its network client. Wi-fi up, point it to a file share with your creds, et voila! I find TCPMP and/or Core Player to be tops for viewing.
