Settings/about phone/system updates...?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Funny enough, my dad just got one too, and I'm pulling my hair out. The system update shows no updates. Downloaded the package separately, and it isn't working currently.
I'm probably going to have to steal it from him for an hour or two and QDL tool him up. Don't know what else to do. The "official" upgrade path isn't working.
You do not need the qdl tool to upgrade to 2.2 340, just go to the wiki page of xda forum for dell streak, there you can find everything you need to know abiut the streak. You can find there all the roms, recovery.img, basebands (amss.mbn). You just need to flash the 340 update.pkg over 1.6 by using 340 recovery.img

This is the latest AT&T Rom (Froyo) http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak_340_14844_31.pkg
1. It needs to be renamed to update.pkg and copied to the root of your device's memory card.
2. Turn off your phone and restart it by pressing and holding volume up + down buttons and the power button.
3. This should take you to the recovery menu where you can select option 2 to do the software upgrade from a pkg file
# The camera button is used to select items in the menu
After upgrading the phone will do a factory reset and 5 or so minutes later you'll be up and running with Android 2.2 (Froyo)

ALso, if you TYPE IN the address for the 340.pkg and not just click on a link, it should download the update to your phone. Then just click on it from the notification bar. I found this out the hard way. Clicking a link gave an error. Typing in the address manually worked.
Also, YES, you can use the QDL tool. Then, download the recovery.img for 340, the .pkg, and then you can manually flash that way, too. Here's my experience:

Hi I've been reading these forums for ages but only just signed up, I'm looking to root my hero (surprise) and complete newb.
Basically current build/software is 3.32.405.1 so 2.1, followed the rooting instructions exactly, then rebooted holding home and power on buttons but it just boots straight into a red triangle with exclamation mark in the middle of it, I can hold power and volume up to get a small menu with apply sdcard: update but tried that after getting frustrated and that said that the file wasn't verified.
how do I get the normal recovery screen because already have a villainrom on the sdcard.
You need to do the root process to get to the care bear, then flash villainrom on the care bear, before rebooting.
That will get you sorted
Well I rooted using universal androot, then used the teminal to input the su (press enter)
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img (press enter) part of instructions but at no point do I see the care bear :S
I have the same problem as Ejen. The phone is root i have superuser permission i do titanium backup .I put RA-hero-v1.7.0.1 with Better Terminal Emulator. When I turn off phone and press Home&Power I get a picture phone with a triangle. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?
Yes, this is because stock rom automatically reflashes recovery with the stock one each shutdown iirc.
You need to stop this happening, but I can't remember the command. When you have root using universal androot though, you can stop it happening.
Or maybe it's too early for me. Wait till I've had a coffee or two and I'll revisit this...
Perhaps you can edit /system/etc/install-recovery.sh. A quick look trough /system didn't find anything like a shutdown script so perhaps this file is run by the android environment.
I had this same issue the other night, been searching for a fix, hopefully one appears here soon, thanks Pulser_g2, i was hoping to install your 1.5 Rom

Ah seems I'm not the only one well at least I wasn't just being silly then, well tried it multiple times but still seem to have no success even tried the unlockr websites method with no success either.
If anyone knows thanks
Right... Are you on 1.5 or 2.1 just now?
Could someone (preferably the most tech savvy here) if you're on 2.1, try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726118 and see if that works.

Ok,... So how far did you get on setting up adb http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...de-Setting-up-ADB-and-how-to-use-it.-(Windows) ?
I had done up to part 4 using ADB, opened up cmd prompt I couldn't seem to push stuff to the SD card and was unsure what I did wrong.
When checking the USB works part 3, I used the link chose part 2, HTC sync users > ADB I couldn't find android_winusb when updating the driver software. I'm probably missing something or being silly now but I don't know

Type adb devices, and if you see your phone's serial number, then you don't need to worry about drivers. Remember to "cd" into the correct folder first.
I'll try that but CD did nothing I'm running windows 7 and it sticks on C:\users\username Can't go back

I guess that is already on the phone RA-hero-v1.7.0.1 as you said stock rom automatically reflashes recovery. I suppose that the method VillainROM Roots 2.1contains RA-hero-v1.6.2.img. What will then happen with recovery if i try to do again root with VillainROM Roots 2.1?
When you try that method, you get the phone booted into patched recovery, at which point you take a nandroid backup and flash a custom ROM.
this prevents the recovery being lost. Just try it
I'm not at home and can not install ADB and run runindos.bat. I have on SD card recovery and FroydVillain 1.5. That's why I tried this method.Next week I'll be home and if someone does not fix the problem i will try the method you suggested me.
Can I try to put again recovery with Better Terminal Emulator, maybe recovery was corrupted ....
i went through the same thing!!

helloo!! i apologise if i am interupting or butting in whilst your in the middle of other solutions... i just saw the title and jump right in. i went through the exact same thing just 2 weeks ago!! unfortunately for me there was no successful forums or websites at the time... it sounded like a simple problem, with no simple solution.
this may not be what you where looking for, but its a very quick easy method that definately worth a try.
so... am i right in saying you have the official OTA HTC android 2.1 update?? and you now want to get this rooted?? and have you also tried rooting using the two common methods, the "one click root" and the "unrevoked" one? thats wat i did and i kept being stuck at the same red triangle and exclamation mark.
those methods (and countless others) will not work with the official htc hero android 2.1. (as far as i know) what you will need to do is downgrade the phones software. check htc's website and look for the older RUU and using the computer get your hero back to android 1.5. (under no circumstance should you upgrade your 1.5 android to the 2.1 android via HTC's OTA update... its only going the remove the root access!!!! - always reject it)
then continue to root as per the numerous rooting guides. done? now, obviously you will want to flash an android 2.1 rom. if you want to keep to htc's original 2.1, you can search for this in the forums under 'development'. or go ahead and flash the custom roms (villianrom).
thats exactly how i did it. im not entirely sure if this is the info you are after... but reply back and ill be happy to answer any query - big or small. (i should warn you, im no expert - but this forum is filled with the earths most powerful brains - u should have an answer in no time!!)
I have an HTC Hero. I ran the simple root method and got Carebare response.
I too have read numerous threads in the forum here and elsewhere but can't seem to get past the USB section.
adb says no device
I can use HTC Sync to sync data to the phone.
The SDK is installed and I have previously used it to capture screen shots of my device.
If I try to run one of the RUU executables, it fails with a [114: USB Error] (number may be wrong but the message is right.
I can mount the SD card and copy files to/from it.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Quad Core AMD CPU.
If I do the Home/Power thing, I get the same red triangle as described in the 1st message of this thread.
Fwiw, I have successfully and repeated loaded ROM's on my previous phone (HTC S621) so I am not a complete newb (but i am newb to Android).
What am I missing? This shouldn't be this hard (at least from what I've seen posted anyway)
Hey guys, I recently unrooted my phone, which means I'm stuck on 1.5 for now. I went to check for updates, and the 1.6 update is there. However, every time I click download, it says downloading for just a second, then stops.
I've tried rebooting, using wifi, using 3G, and clicking download like crazy. I also tried finding the manual 1.6 update, but I couldn't. Any help?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found the manual update for 1.6. If anybody else needs it, go here.

This happened to me too at first.
Did you use a backup program to restore all your settings while still on 1.5? Data from 1.6 is in there and it prevents the update from taking. Do a factory data reset again and this time wait a day before using a backup program to restore any data. The update will come through in about a day.
During this time you can still download whatever you want from the market and it shouldn't affect anything.
thanks for the link. which file do i DL to get 1.6 on my original mytouch 3g

This worked perfect for me, thanks for the post!
One question though, this considered a MANUAL update, right? Not an OTA update. Just asking because I'm trying to figure out if I can use the SPL Official method for updating to 2.2, posted in thread 807899.
Wondering if its safe to delete the second update.zip from my sd card? I went to delete it says "Delete failed- system restriction" and will this prevent me from receiving my 2.2 OTA update?
No it shouldn't matter, and there is a manual froyo update as well
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Impatience is a virtue.
I had been running CM5 before I found out about the OTA. Decided to downgrade to 1.5 and wait for the update. Realized (thanks to you helpful cats) that I'd probably need 1.6 in order for the update to go well, but, since Froyo was already available via manual update...
Worked like a charm. DL'd the DRC92 and DMD64 and installed accordingly, then installed all 3 of the OP's files in order and it works like a charm. So far 2.2.1 is a snappy little update and I love the look. Not totally thrilled about the T-Mo branded stuff but it's not intrusive, either.
And now, to root...
Mod...if this belongs in the android development, please move it.
Does anyone know if you can put a different image file using the QDL tool?
I was wanting to play around with Steve's 1.5x version, but don't want to brick
the phone. The QDL tools is just too easy to use.
I had suggested the same thing at streaksmart forums and nobody seemed inclined to consider it. Looking through the files included with QDL it seemed like it might be possible to do this. Just based on file names, that is.
I am not a dev, just a newbie, so maybe smarter brains would be able to advise.
No smarter here but why not back up the tool you have now, then replace files on copy and try it. If it doesnt work just reuse original tool to get you back. Just out of curiosity what version did the tool give you initially. Cause mine put me to Steves 1.4.6 so if yours is different then its likely good to go.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I believe QDLTool validates the images before it will load them, so I don't think simply replacing them with the ones from DJ_Steve's rom would work .. then again, its not something I've tested yet either
Mine shows up as:
version 2.2
Baseband GAUSB1A130500-US
Kernel 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM GAUSB1A130500
Build 10688

Perhaps we could get a sticky or something for that, if it can be developed
further. Once you get the driver problem worked out so windows 7 works with
it, it's pretty much a one click solution to flashing.

QDL drops you at Official 2.2 (build 10688) , BB 305. How did you get 1.4.6 out of it? Did you swap the update files as you suggested?
i believe this should answer your question
Beyond QDLTool
Using QDLTool will get you to a pre-release of v2.2. From here, you’ll want to upgrade to a newer release. The two options that people tend to choose from are to either go up to the official v2.2 ROM from Dell, or install DJ_Steve’s latest ROM.
Official ROM
If you want to go to the latest official ROM from Dell, simply set up your wifi connection, then go to Settings -> About Phone -> System updates. The latest update can then be downloaded and installed, updating your Streak.
DJ_Steve’s latest vanilla ROM
If you want to upgrade to the latest vanilla ROM (1.5.2), either from the QDLTool install or from the latest official build, you can follow these steps:
1.Go to the downloads section and grab StreakMod Recovery, the latest 1.5.2 Update and the AMSS for 1.5.1+ (the update and amss are under Roms, StreakMod Recovery is under Recovery)
2.Copy the update-1.5.2.zip file onto the root of your SD card.
3.Extract recovery.img from the StreakMod recovery and place it, along with amss.mbn, into the same directory as QDLTool (QDLTool has a copy of fastboot)
4.Shut down your Streak, then hold down the camera button (all the way) as you turn it back on.
5.The screen should turn white; press ‘Fastboot’ in the top right hand of the screen.
6.Plug in the USB cable – the Streak should now display ‘FASTBOOT_MODE’ at the bottom of the screen.
7.Open a command window and use ‘cd’ to change to the same directory as qdltool.
8.Run: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
9.Run: fastboot -i 0x413c flash amss amss.mbn
10.Run: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
11.As the Streak starts to reboot, hold down both volume buttons.
12.The recovery menu should come up; select option 2 (Upgrade)
13.A Dell logo and an exclamation mark should appear; press power or menu to open StreakMod’s main menu
14.Select ‘apply sdcard:update.zip’ then ‘chose zip on sd card’
15.Find the update-1.5.2.zip file, select it and apply the zip.
16.When the update finishes, press back a couple of times then select the option to reboot your Streak.
17.The Streak will restart. It will take about 5 minutes to complete, but you are now on the latest v1.5.2
Help!!
Hey I'm hoping that you guys can help me. So I picked up a streak from a buddy a few days ago its running 2.2 build 10688 and bb 305 I would like to go to dj steves 1.6.1 because I hear that's the best one to run and from what I have looked up it gets highest scores in bench mark. Anyways I dont have pc I have a mac, so I have 1.5.1 cause streakdroid says you have to do 1.5.1 then 1.6.1 next I have amss.mbn 1.5.1+ or whatever and the recovery.img. So my question is i open terminal and put the phone in fast boot and plug it in blah blah it says fast boot mode on the bottom left so I know it is connected but what do I put in the command as the path so I can access it to flash everything over because I have no clue what the path is and no clue how to figure it out because there is no how tos for a mac.. Thanks for whoever will help me id love to get this streak going fast and smooth! Thanks everyone!!! One other question I also need to know where to put the amss and recivery.img iv already put 1.5.1.zip and 1.6.1.zip on the root of my sd!! Thanks again!!!!!!!
Good Day.
I noticed that Motorola has released Blur_Version_4_5_91_MB860_ATT_en_US_zip (gingerbread) for the atrix 4g
the only thing is after talking with them, the update will only go out to (and work) for phones located physicaly in the US.
I am in New Zealand.
I should note here, that ultimatly i just want to upgrade my phone to gingerbread using the mororola release mentioned at the top of this post.
I was hoping someone may be able to suggest a way to put the update on my phone here in NZ.
I have tried putting Blur_Version_4_5_91_MB860_ATT_en_US_zip on the SD card (root directory), and telling the phone to update (settings-about phone-system updates), but the update does not start. It just returns to the about phone screen.)
my phone has system version
version_4_1_83_mb860_att_en_us
model number
mb860
android version
2_2_2
baseband version
n_01-77-07p
motorola webtop version

kernel version

build number
olyfr_u4_1-8-3
I have checked a few other threads related to Blur_Version_4_5_91_MB860_ATT_en_US_zip but dont really find an answer for loading this outside the US.
any help would be appreciated.
I'd prefer to keep the phone relatively standard, but will of course consider any action to get it up to the gingerbread version released by at&t-motorola.
many thanks in advance.
kind regards
Gavin
I don't know about using the update, but you can unlock the bootloader and flash a ROM that is the same as the OTA.
Start with the pudding thread to unlock your bootloader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136261
Then move onto a ROM that you want. If you want the stock OTA go with Kens beta 4

You could also read this thread, I haven't looked at it.

perhaps i will need a AT&T sim card OR use the reply in post 2 above.

Thank you for offering to help. i appreciate that a lot.
My phone i purchased mail order from a firm in china.
It appears to be unlocked (as it works on telecom NZ UMTS network OK)
it appears to be root (as there is an application 'superuser' which allows root access to things like screen shot application and backup application etc).
i have since done a back to factory reset (Privacy settings then press factory data reset)
when it started, i put in my userID and password, and it cam back with superuser application)
Since the reset, i have installed very few apps (face book etc), and i have not freezed any aps.
I have not done any mods since the factory reset (done just before i attempted the upgrade above).
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Cheers
Gavin

I have a feeling now you are going to ask me to do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1138204 using Flashable SBF: Full 2.3.4 with preinstall root and pudding bootloader unlock, full sbf
as mentioned by the kind gentelman in the 2nd post...
Umm that's an option but we want to preserve the data right?
Can you please check in your app drawer if you have any application that said "recovery"

Thats right, to do the android recovery i tried in an above post. i turned the phone off, turned it on (holding down the vol-down button) etc, then went to the 'droid' screen , touched bottom right of screen, selected update from sdcard then touched bottom left of screen.
ok first if you have indeed a windows PC download and install the following program:

Thank you very much for your help!
the above steps should be complete in about 5 mins. i will post when ready.
Hi there, is there anyone of you out there who can help me upgrade my sgh-t959 galaxy s vibrant 2.1 eclair to 2.2 froyo..
you can add my YM anchierazos
thanks
Go to the Q&A section. There is a noob guide for the vibrant. It has all the info you will need. Also in the development section, download the AIO toolbox. It has Odin and all the files you need in case you Bork your phone up. Good luck and please read and understand before you try anything.
thanks for replying to my question
Your welcome. Let me know how it goes or if you want help on choosing a rom.
Go download the 2.2 rom of your choice, astro file manager,or root explorer(paid app but the best in my opinion).
Now you can do all this simply and completely by phone without hooking up to your computer....but if something does go wrong go ahead and download Odin and the tar and pit file to your computer, you will need them down the road anyway.
Just google "root samsung vibrant" to find update.zip
or search xda for the update.zip.
Download it, when youve gotten this far use astro/root explorer,, go to your download folder and move the rom of your choice and the update.zip to the root of your internal sd(meaning dont put it in any folders).
now turn phone off then hold both volume up and down together at same time....now while holding them press and hold down your power button, when you see the boot up start and see "vibrant" let only the power button up then you will see yellow print pop up then release the volume rocker and you will be in blue recovery.....now hit reinstall packages then there will be some activiity and will most likely eturn to blue recovery again, thats ok just hit reinstall packages again...activity then you should get a green recovery.......be back later to finish this

Download Kies Mini - here
Plug in phone
Click Upgrade
Guy wants help is there an issue there?
Ok ok im done ....if you want more info pm me....i may have gone too far with this lol
Hey, do you want to run a custom rom or stock?
If you are on stock 2.1 right now, you can download a program onto your computer released by Samsung named "Kies Mini."
Kies mini will automatically detect your phone upon usb connection and check for updates. It will automatically update you to Froyo 2.2.
I personally sugest doing that, because when I updated to Froyo 2.2 using this Kies Mini approach I noticed it did something to my SBL (second boot loader) and made my 3-button recovery entrance work much better. Some of the Froyo 2.2 roms here...people took out the SBL because of claims of bricking phones.
Need more help message back, lots of people here willing to help you.

SamsungVibrant is right, if you want plain old froyo, use kies. If you want something better especially to get rid of all that bloat ware on the phone use a custom rom.
If you need help you can always pm me.

@frazius - it's not like it's one way or the other. You can do the official Samsung update through Kies Mini (HERE) and play around with it for a while. But, if you're on a site like XDA, you're probably going start thinking about a custom ROM soon enough. While it sounds daunting at first, it gets easy quick and is well worth the time and effort to learn. Have fun with the with update.
