Hey guys, I recently unrooted my phone, which means I'm stuck on 1.5 for now. I went to check for updates, and the 1.6 update is there. However, every time I click download, it says downloading for just a second, then stops.
I've tried rebooting, using wifi, using 3G, and clicking download like crazy. I also tried finding the manual 1.6 update, but I couldn't. Any help?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found the manual update for 1.6. If anybody else needs it, go here.

This happened to me too at first.
Did you use a backup program to restore all your settings while still on 1.5? Data from 1.6 is in there and it prevents the update from taking. Do a factory data reset again and this time wait a day before using a backup program to restore any data. The update will come through in about a day.
During this time you can still download whatever you want from the market and it shouldn't affect anything.
thanks for the link. which file do i DL to get 1.6 on my original mytouch 3g
just used sappimg.nbh to get back to 1.5 in expectation of 2.2 dropping tomorrow
Here:
I found a mirror with 1.6 for the MT3G:
http : // and then type www . mediafire. com/?t3zlwdzzqqx
Sorry for the formatting... I'm not allowed to post links.
Don't forget to do the second 1.6 update (DRC92 -> DMD64)
You can find the file at the same link the OP gave.

This worked perfect for me, thanks for the post!
One question though, this considered a MANUAL update, right? Not an OTA update. Just asking because I'm trying to figure out if I can use the SPL Official method for updating to 2.2, posted in thread 807899.
Wondering if its safe to delete the second update.zip from my sd card? I went to delete it says "Delete failed- system restriction" and will this prevent me from receiving my 2.2 OTA update?
No it shouldn't matter, and there is a manual froyo update as well
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Impatience is a virtue.
I had been running CM5 before I found out about the OTA. Decided to downgrade to 1.5 and wait for the update. Realized (thanks to you helpful cats) that I'd probably need 1.6 in order for the update to go well, but, since Froyo was already available via manual update...
Worked like a charm. DL'd the DRC92 and DMD64 and installed accordingly, then installed all 3 of the OP's files in order and it works like a charm. So far 2.2.1 is a snappy little update and I love the look. Not totally thrilled about the T-Mo branded stuff but it's not intrusive, either.
And now, to root...

I need some serious help.
I have a Google branded MyTouch 3G (Magic) from T-Mobile.
I installed flashrec.apk from ryebrye's website.
I saved a cyanogen 4.1.11.1 zip file at the root of my SD card.
When running the flashrec program I saved a recovery image before flashing.
I held home and pressed power to go into the recovery program.
I chose the apply any zip from sd card function and chose the cyanogen 4.1.11.1.
4.1.11.1 is not stable on my phone. It force closes com.android processes or reboots the phone too much.
What should I go back to?... and where do I get it?
Someone suggested RAv1.2.1 but that is a .img file.
Don't I need a .zip file?
I'm not terribly interested in using any donut features.
The power widget was nice but all I really care about is root.
Also, what happens when T-Mobile pushes out updates for the phone? Will I even get those updates or does their system see what you're running before sending it out?
Thanks in advance,
~Eric

RAv1.2.1 is a recovery, not a ROM so you definitely wont be going back to that one.
if you made a backup before flashing 4.1.11.1 then i guess you can go back to that. or otherwise get the ROM you like from this forum and flash that..
PS 4.1.11.1 has been rock solid on my 32a. i would suggest you do a wipe (or two) before dissing this ROM in favour of something else.
Please post in the correct forum next time. Reported

This is a Step-by-Step fool proof guide to getting your T-Mobile myTouch 3g (32b) back to factory firmware with the ability to once again receive all official T-Mobile OTA (Over-The-Air) Updates.
*Note* There are two files named updated.zip that are both needed. We will keep them seperated by two folders needed at two totally different steps during installattion. The fisrt gets us back to 1.6 and the other gets us the newer radios for1.6...and Yes it works. Files are official....Nay-Sayers! LOL
*Note*
Optional SD Card Format
From the settings menu of the phone, Scroll down to "SD Card & phone storage." Press "Unmount SD Card." Next press "Format SD card." If you go this route you will have to reinstall all media you had on the SD Card, i.e. pics, music...etc
STEP 1
Create a Folder named ANDROID on the desktop. In that create 3 sub-folders. Name the 3 sub-folders in this order: Cupcake, Donut Update 1, Donut Update 2
STEP 2
You need a copy of SAPPIMG.img. It puts the phone back to the "Cupcake" or 1.5 Firmware Version.
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?yezotmjyuww
Save it in the Cupcake folder you just created.
STEP 3
Plug your phone into your PC and click "USB Connected" on the Notification Tab, then mount image. Your PC can now read and write to your SD Card. Find your downloaded copy of SAPPING.img and copy it to your SD Card. Unmount, unplug and power off your phone.
STEP 4
Reboot phone into boot mode by holding down volume down key while pressing the power key. It should boot into HBOOT and automatically run the SAPPIMG.img you just copied onto the SD card Click. Follow the onscreen instructions to initiate the automated update. Use trackball to accept.
If it did not boot to HBOOT, read the screen and do what it says to "Reboot to HBOOT." From there everything else should once again be automated. Follow the onscreen instructions to initiate the automated update. Use trackball to accept. Once the update is done and it says "Installation Complete," reboot by pressing Home and Back buttons together.
STEP 5Once rebooted, do the initial setup. Once setup is complete, plug the phone back into the PC and re-mount the SD Card. It is safe to delete the SAPPIMG.img file from the SD Card now. You can also check to make sure the Firmware Version 1.5 is correct and installed by going to Settings-> About phone.
STEP 6You need to Download the second file needed named update.zip. It gets us back to Android 1.6
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?t3zlwdzzqqx
Save it in Donut Update 1 folder. Once download is complete, copy the file update.zip to the SD Card like before. Unmount, unplug, and power off the phone.
STEP 7Reboot the phone into recovery mode by this time holding down the Home and Power buttons together this time. A picture with tirangle and phone will show press Home and Power again to get to the actual recovery screen. You now have 2 options to apply this update...either or:
*Note* Use trackball to navigate the cursor in this new menu
1. Apply update.zip from SD Card. This option will leave all user data that you previously put on the phone after the SAPPIMG install, i.e. Contacts, Apps, Settings...etc.
2. Wipe/Factory reset. This option will completely remove all user data from the phone. A clean slate if you will. If you choose this option, when the reset finishes, Make sure you do Option 1 Apply update.zip from SD Card. Once the update is done and it says "Installation Complete," reboot by pressing Home and Back buttons together.
STEP 8
Once rebooted, if you chose option 2 in the previous step you have to redo the initial setup. Plug the phone back into the PC and re-mount the SD Card. It is safe to delete the update.zip from the phone now. You can also check to make sure the Firmware Version 1.6 is correct and installed by going to Settings-> About phone.
STEP 9
You need to Download the third file needed named update.zip. It gets us back the latest radios.
Download it from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ojnnyrjzneg
Save it in Donut Update 2 folder. Once download is complete, copy the file update.zip to the SD Card like before. Unmount, unplug, and power off the phone.
STEP 10 = Finale
Reboot the phone into recovery mode by this time holding down the Home and Power buttons together this time.
That is it!
Now you are good to go and are waitng for T-Mobile and their 2.0 or whatever other goodies they decide to throw or not to throw our way.
Didn't work for me. Step 4 did not install. Instead, it said "invalid signature"

once you get to cupcake you can just wait a couple hours then you will get an ota update to update to doughnut and the newest radio so i dont see the point in doing all of this work when just isntall cupcake and wait
Great thread! This is much better than waiting for the ota updates!
no ota to 1.6
I have been on 1.5 for 24hrs and no ota back yo 1.6?
Then follow the steps to manually flash the updates from here that is what o did.
Technically I think the updates are only if you have internet with tmobile and can take up to 72 hours.

Never took me more than 24 hours.
Restoring data with mybackup or titanium backup can actually prevent the update from installing, so if you're not getting it, do a factory reset and don't install anything that isn't from the market until you've received your update.
Does this method also remove the Recovery?
Can I install just the stock rom but keep my recovery? If I do this, will it disable my ability to flash custom roms without re-exploiting the phone?
Thanks phate
I just did this but now I'm stuck at the green android welcome screen with no data service and I'm out of the country. Am I pretty much ****ed? Four corners trick doesn't seem to work. Tried it like a hundred times.
Well this did not work out so well.
Everything seemed to go fine. After the last step, rebooted the phone, and it came up with a picture of a box with an arrow, so I just let it sit there. Came back an hour or so later and the screen was off. No charging light or anything.
Pressed power button and nothing. Tried everything I can think of. So do you think I bricked the phone some how or did the phone just die.
Oh, Battery was fully charged, and it was plugged in while doing the downgrade from CM 6 back to stock.

If the phone refuses to boot you could always apply sappimg.nbh again and this time just let it download 1.6 ota. It only takes about a day or so.

As a new owner of DHD I would like to share my problem....
Yesterday, I downloaded (completely 40 mb) the new 2.2.1 OTA update... i experienced the following malfunction...
In the middle of procedure... green bar stops moving... and a green exclamation mark appears... after a while turn to red into a circle... and everything seems to be struggled... I had to remove battery to get a reboot... I did it two times, but I got the same result...
For your information I use visionary for temproot (no temproot on boot). Each time I tried to process new update.... root was off, after a clean reboot...
If anyone knows a solution to help me...
Thanks in advance

Seems like the PermRoot breaks the update.
There are countless other threads saying basically the same.

You could try installing via bootloader, but your DHD would return to factory settings.
Download This ROM. Rename it to PD98IMG.zip and place on your SD Card.
Turn off your DHD (Disable FastBoot) and power on holding VOL DOWN.
Your DHD will then apply the update itself. With the new update you will not be able to root, HTC have fixed the exploit Visionary+ used. A new method to root will have to be found. I know you said you have only used TempRoot, but perhaps Visionary+ modifies something that the HTC Update checks.
NO IMAGE
i done what u have said and im just getting no image help
What exactly is happening?
help
well i go into the bootloader it scans the sd card find the file pd98img but then it sez missing files with a blue bar goining along on the side
kernal
does it matter what kernal am using??
Did you open the PD98IMG.zip file on your computer?
no
no sorry was i ment to open it on my computer then what?? bit of a newbie sorry
lose
also will i lose all my numbers and my settings?
Don't open it on your computer. You will break the signature and it definitely wont work then.
The kernel shouldn't affect the flashing in bootloader
EDIT: If you numbers are synced to you Google account, then no. But you will lose all your settings.
Is your DHD unbranded or carried branded?
ok
well i rename t put it on my sd card the went into bootloader and i just does like wht i said be4!!
Before I begin, I'd like to say that I know we have posted this everywhere.
The reason of this thread is because there are no real clear instructions on how to un-root, and there is no actual thread, hence the reason we get this question asked so much; something I want to eliminate.
How to UNROOT your Mytouch 3G Slide
[Optional] If you are sending back your phone to Tmobile for replacement, make sure you flash the newest radio out as of now. (this at the moment is 7.09) [/Optional]
1) You will need to download "ESPRIMG(2).zip" from this thread (This is all you need, you dont need anything else)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713507
2) Rename "ESPRIMG(2).zip" to: ESPRIMG.zip
3) Place the new renamed file ESPRIMG.zip in the root of you SD card (this means in no folder)
4) Power off your phone any way you like
5) Turn your phone on while HOLDING: VOLUME DOWN and POWER.
This will get you to a screen where you will need to wait for some loading. Let it load.
6) Once above step has finished, phone will give you some options. Hit VOLUME UP to confirm flash
7) It will take some time, and when it's done, you will be unrooted with the stock Espresso.
Credits go to: eugene373, xda-fourms, CaliBoyPhillip, and some guy I cant remember
reserved for future way to unroot
I posted the ESRIMG.zip in the q&a section a few days ago, nice catch on the radio. I totally forgot about that for warranty reasons. This thread should hit the New Bible!

ask that in the Question and Answer forum of mytouch 3g slide.. im not too sure of what you're saying, and you'll get more answers there.
Hey Xologist,
Thanks for this post but I have a few things you might want to add on.
Your link to eugene373's ESPRIMG(2).zip works fine, but wouldn't auto update after a week. So instead of waiting to be updated I re-rooted and then un-rooted to 1.27.531.1 using the ESPRIMG that wegarner provided. After that I was able to do the manual OTA update without root.
wesgarner (1.27.531.1)
http://db.androidspin.com/androidspin_filedownload.asp?release=280&type=1
So after someone unroots they can just manually update(root not needed) to the current OTA via ChiefzReloaded's provided files.

Same file with a mirror. However, the google one ended up working for me.
I am assuming this will result in a factory wipe/reset as well, correct? I'm considering switching back to stock from Cyanogen 6.1.1 since it's unable to send or receive MMS messages for me but I'm afraid I may lose the pending messages if I revert back and won't be able to recover or view them.

Yeah it'll be a factory reset but you should still the messages as long as the phone hasn't actually grabbed them from the companies server. As for the actual issue, have you verified APN settings? I was having issues with MMS and data when I first flashed CM 7 and ended up switching to T-Mobiles alternate server to fix.

Thank you for confirming that this would wipe the device. I was also not aware that the MMS messages would still be retrievable if they have not yet been downloaded to the device (good to know!).
I see you have found my post on these forums in regards to my issue, so I will not get into the specifics in this topic, but yes, I have confirmed the APN settings several times now.
I've tried this, but I keep getting this error... "Main Version is older"
I need to unroot because I need to send my phone in for warranty service... my power button stopped working... makes it realy difficult to get into recovery mode or anything (impossible) but I can get into the boot loader
What can I do to remedy this?
Heck, if you could tell me how to corrupt the system folders I would do that so they couldn't tell it was rooted at all...
I've tried doing it this way and I extracted the file to the root of my SD card. But when I followed the steps, all it did was take me through like I was doing a reset of my phone. Didn't remove the actual ROM. Am I not supposed to extract it? What can I do to remove this ROM because I really don't like it on my phone.
you do not extract the zip file. you just put the ESPRIMG.zip file into your root folder. when you boot into recovery mode, the phone should automatically start searching for it (you might want to give it a little time to let everything load up). it will load (this will take a while) then press volume up to update when prompted. thanks to the OP for putting this up. you saved my butt, i have to return my phone for warranty replacement because the touchscreen and all the buttons stopped working.
Hey xologist, I'm sorry but I'm still very new to rooting. I've had some issues with the touchscreen and need to send my phone in for the warranty so I need to unroot it. What do you mean by flashing the newest radio? Where do I get it and how do I flash it?

you probably placed a different sim card in your phone because this phone is normally locked to T-Mobile. if you're on T-Mobile and want to use a different sim card, give them a call and they will get you an unlock code for free. if you thought you bought the phone unlocked (not locked to a carrier, T-Mobile), then it's not, return it to the seller or something.
I tried the esprimg.zip on the root of the sd card but every time it tries to apply it it says it is the wrong image and aborts. Any ideas?
no matter what i do i cant get it to install anything, i install and apply the esprimg.zip file, re boot, and still loads CM i may have forgot how to do all this fancey root stuff, i have Cm 7.1, can i pleeeease get a dummy version to unroot
Hi all, in a pickle here. I will be attempting to remove root and am on CM 7.1 stable. My obstacle is my volume buttons don't work. I'm removing root for warranty/return reasons, is there any way to go back to stock other than from the bootloader(sp?)? Thanks, all!

Ok so found by mistake but will help ones with no sd slot to make goldcard
Ok so first dl. Superoneclick root then the auto rooter for 2.1 will let u know what its called later(ultra easy rooter)
Next 1a.open super1click and ulter easy rooter
2a.in super1click do the shell root
3a.the run ulter easy rooter, once finished u will be at the fastboot screen
4a.click fast boot to go to boot loader screen and then hit vol up to update"esrpimg" once that is done u will be back to 2.1.
5a.once the phone has loaded back up to 2.1 and root just go to recovery and load a rom
NOTE: put update.zip on root of sd so u can load cwm other wish u only get root
AND sry still no way to get soff....
HOPE that is better........for the pickie ones
That is by far the longest run on sentence ive ever seen. You should edit and complete your thoughts. As well as add info on to what your actually explaining. Such as a complete history of the problem. And links to the original related post.

Is this just another root method or will this also downgrade H-Boot, allowing someone to achieve S-Off after downgrading from 2.2 and H-Boot 1.0+
Your phone info in your sig says that your mytouch slide is S-Off'd. If it's true that you can achieve S-Off using this method, that would be huge news.
From what I have tryed alparev does not get soff when I did the downgrade all got changed buttbut the bootloader and the hboot will not allow me to get soff so so far no luck
the hoboot i have after downgrade is hboot 1.02.0000
now i dont know what the old hboot was so if anyone knows plz let me know so I can try to push it sum how
Thats sig is because I have muti slides so plz don't mistake it for what I'm posting now all this was tryed on new slide with 2.2.1
Has anyone ever tested this? I don't have a MT3GS anymore but this seems like a pretty awesome and pain free process to gain root.
I would also like to know if this works?
Yes it does work have done it muti times just to check and check YES it works.....
YES this surprisingly does work. The only problem I had was that the update file wasn't on my SD card so I continued to get a signature filed message when I tried to update. All I did was to copy the file from the mtg rooter fille over to my SD card and ran the update and it worked perfectly. I'm rooted and very happy!
Had to get my slide replaced and the new one came with 2.2.1. I used this method and it got me back to a rooted 2.1 state just like it says. Thanks for coming up with this one.
Really quick and easy! Thanks so much. Too bad T-Mobile is shipping these with 2.2.1 on them, no more S-Off...
Outstanding! Thanks for the tip. Worked flawlessly.
This would be awesome if there were links to where to download everything so someone doesn't download the wrong thing by mistake
important links
I agree with the last post ... links are critical here. This was the easiest rooting process I have ever encountered. Below are links left out by OP. Follow OP's instructions with these files and you'll be rooted quickly and painlessly.
super one click (v1.7 worked flawlessly for me)

This method should be the new rooting method for folks receiving replacement or new slides with 2.2. This should, IMO, be in development.
Thank god for this method. My phone up and died and the replacement came with 2.2.1. I tried a few other methods that failed. This one worked like a charm.
nice
wish i would have stopped back here would have saved me from having to downgrade, root, then upgrade back too 2.2 smh.... lol but nice to know yeah!!!!
Very helpful
I am going to try this method soon. Do we need anything else other than those two files to get our phones operational again? I want to try cm7 nightly, but want to make sure the phone would work before trying to put on another rom.

1. Download the 2 files in post #13/ thanks NJAZ (SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse.zip and mt3srooter.zip)
2. Extract them to their own folders on the desktop of your computer
3. Run the .exe files within each of the folders (open the programs SuperOneClick and mt3srooter--run as admin if using Vista or Win7)
4.In the Super1Click program, click "Shell Root", wait a moment til it does its thing
5.In the mt3gs rooter program, click on "Root Me"
It will tell you to turn on the wifi on your phone, and you must do it within 30 seconds, so hurry
6.Your phone will reboot into bootloader mode if all goes well. Use your volume buttons to navigate down to the fastboot option, and choose it with the power button. The phone will scan your sd card and find ESPRIMG.zip, and take a while checking the file. When it is finished checking the file, press the volume up button to confirm that you want to flash the file. Once it is finished flashing, you're rooted on stock 2.1 Eclair ROM.
I dont know if these programs put the update.zip for CWM onto your sd card too, I already had that and the ESPRIMG.zip on my card when I used this method, so if all else fails you, put a card into your phone with these files on the root of it into your phone and then use the 2 programs to gain root. Dont be afraid to try it a couple of times if it doesn't work the first time, and make sure that you have the correct drivers for your phone installed on your computer. To get into CWM Recovery to be able to flash custom ROMs, boot into bootloade by starting your phone and holding the vol-down button, and you will get a black screen with a red triangle. Then press power and vol-down and choose "Apply Update.zip" and in a moment you will be in CWM Recovery,as long as you have the file on the root of your sd card.
Just thought I'd spell it all out very detailed and simple for anybody less familiar with all this kind of stuff, makes for less "please explain step #...." posts.
