If I was to buy a game (on the official rom of WP7 for the HD2), and wanted to change to a custom rom of WP7 for the HD2... Would I have to "rebuy" the game, or would I be able to just download the marketplace?
I would use the same activation code I got previously and be using the same information (i.e. same email, etc.)
Since you will be using the same ID, you have no problem.
Just head over to the marketplace and choose the game, it will notify you that this game was bought before, hit install and you're done

I was planning to get an HD2 soon and put android on it but I do not have data on my current plan. I know most custom ROMs on actual android phones like the g1 allow you to skip the initial account setup.
Will I have to put a data plan on my sim to register my google account or will it let me skip?
Also does the official Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM from T-Mobile ask you to register the device every time you do a hard reset?

I haven't found a way around the data-only login. I found some hacks online, but none of them actually worked.
I recommend you (1) find a friend with a data plan and borrow their sim for a moment or (2) get a prepaid sim with data on it.
I've never used Android without data plan but I have a friend who does. It kinda sucks, not being able to access the app store or use any of the social media stuff.
The official WM T-Mo ROM does not require registration.
---Edit---
I forgot: Here in Austin, all of the McDonald's and Public Libraries offer free wifi. Would that help?
There is a trick that you can do, don't know if it works on the HD2 builds but it did on the Kaiser, when you get to the "Touch the Android to begin" screen, simply hit the four corners of your screen and it "should" skip the registration crap.

Can you try it with some of the Android builds please. Being able to skip it will make or break the HD2 for me lol.

I have wifi at my house but would I be able to connect to it without signing in first?
I'm pretty surprised that you can't just skip the registration on HD2 android builds, because all of the custom ROMs on my G1 allow me to skip it
Many of the Android Roms don't even have the initial setup screen.
I am currently using Hyperdroid 1.6 and it does not require it.
Many of the HD2 android builds don't require the setup to be completed. The ones that do have the setup included have the "skip" feature. You can load without syncing anything, then turn on wifi, and sync away. I'm currently using Bangsters v1.4. Its running great.
Look through the builds and have a go. You shouldn't have any troubles.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I went through activation without a hitch on Froyostone. There was a SKIP button if I remember right.
Alright thanks for the replies. I'll try it when I buy my HD2 off craigslist.
But one last question, do I have to install HSPL3 for Android or is that only for flashing custom WM ROMs?
HardSPL is only required for flashing ROMs or Radios, BUT, you must flash to a WinMo ROM that supports Android or you will not get correct audio, so in your case you will need to flash HardSPL anyways. Fear not, HardSPL is an extrmely simple 2 click process that takes literally 5 minutes of reading and 2 minutes of clicking to accomplish.
So my phone is now unlocked and i followed everything in the activation guide except calling Microsoft for the activation code yet.
and I managed to download some apps through my laptop and installed to my phone and worked
but i tried 2 games which were "the Harvest" and "Twin Blades" and they don't work
but also i installed a LG game which worked fine
so i was wondering if this is because i still didn't activate live services or the HD2 isn't capable of playing WP7 games after all ??
Thanx in advance

Hi
I installed "Twin Blades" trial from the market (activated) and it worked fine.
I tried installing "Harvest" through my computer, like how you did it (I think)it installed, but didn't open/run.
I then tried installing Harvest trial again, but this time using the market, and it worked fine.
There might be a difference between the trial versions and full versions (in terms of installing / running), but I haven't tried purchasing any games yet.
Some xbox live titles work when you install it through desktop. So it's just a hit or miss when trying out apps that way. Either way, it is recommended to get an activation code to get the full WP7 experience.
I believe you used WP7 3MktPlace to download the games. Am I right? In this case you just have to wait for the vbguy (the creator of 3MktPlace) to update the software. He already found a way to make an automated patch for XBL games. (games other than Xbox LIVE games should work fine with current software)

yes exactly i downloaded using 3mktplace then installed using tom xap installer
so the only limitation from not activating the code will be using xbox live accounts or signing in to windows live accounts only?
and could u plz tell me more about this update??
also, is 3mktplace the only way yet to get apps and games other than the built in market place?
Thanx in advance
yes the only limitations are not being able to access windows live (includes x box live, live accounts) and marketplace.
3mrktplace isn't the only other way, there is another one, can't remember it but i think it's on xda.
Im sorry, Im afraid that I cant be more helpful in this matter. I don't know much about the updates except what I read in his blog. All I know is, in his latest blog entry he wrote that he already found a way to fix all those XBL games and he will integrate this new patch in new version of 3MrktPlace (v0.5). I think we should sit tight and wait for the updates, it wont take long
I only use 3MrktPlace btw, so I dont know about the other stuff. I browse the marketplace apps through zune, and I'll download apps through 3MrktPlace.
oh btw ahmedsalem89 : Get the activation code. Just call them. It's worth the try.
Thanx
I will Call them as soon as I'm sure that I'll be sticking with WinPhone 7 and not returning to android at least for a while
ok i've found a game i realy want on the android market (stupid zombies) did a search but no luck.
so i use the online market https://market.android.com/ and found it however can not install as my phone is not reconized.
so search here on xda and found
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=983853
Try'd to install but half way through the phone reset
Next thought was to update the market got an APK file from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=869964 but aways came up with an error
so now i ask for a helping hand
and ideas would be appreciated
so i played with another phone today (desire HD) and found that are beloved phones are missing quite a few games/apps
i held both phones side by side scrolling though the market and noticed that 1 in 8 were missing
still unsure if it has enything to do the market update or a phone compatibility issue
i believe results are filtered for device compatibility. like on windows mobile marketplace, where you'd receive more results with an old blueangel than with a blackstone, as there were more qvga apps and ones that require a physical keyboard.
when it comes to the desire hd vs. the blackstone, the issue could be the blackstone's lack of multi touch for example. maybe there are some exclusive apps, that wouldn't work without it and to minimize the risk of people buying an incompatible app, they get filtered out in advance.
Just a few questions....I will be getting my 920 early next week.....
Presumably there are a few apps in the store.... so they will be installed 1st... I can then load my prepaid and free old WP7 apps on, I know that.... If one of the WP7 Apps receives a Windows 8 upgrade, will this happen automatically, Or will I need to load the WP8 app then delete the WP7 app???
Also, apps bought on WP8 are they the same/ compatible with Windows 8 installed on my PC.... Ie if I buy an app on one can I load it on the other FOC... I suspect that they may be kept separate as I cant find any WP7 apps to install on my PC.....
Any help with clearing all this up would be greatly appreciated..... I suppose next week, when I have the phone, will probably be able to work most of it out myself..... Cheers,
The WP8 version of a previously installed WP7 App will show up as an update - at least it is a supported scenario in the Store and I guess most developers will go that route. They could create a separate App for WP8 though (similar to the possibility that Devs could instead of updating an App simply submit it as a new one).
The Windows 8 Store is completely separate from the Windows Phone Stores. Apps might have the same name and similar design but Devs need separate Accounts to publish Apps and having purchased an App for WP8 does not mean you have a license for it on Windows 8.

Cheers for the prompt response....
I'm not sure what the right terminology is here, but each time after I install a new rom and log into the play store, it starts to download my previously installed apps. The problem is, it's like a month behind. I'm not sure how to force the android store to stay in sync with what's actually installed on my phone. (I'd like to avoid having to go find all of my apps each time I flash a new rom).
