Motorola Atrix or HTC Thunderbolt?? - Atrix 4G General

I have the Atrix and love it. I have the lapdock and cardock and they work great. I wish it was unlocked and I could flash roms and get some good customization besides themes. I wish i could do a complete backup with TB and be able to restore to that back up!! I don't think the Atrix will eve get the boot loader unlocked.....Moto just won't give up the goods for it's flagship phone with lapdock capabilities.
A co worker of mine just got the HTC Thunderbolt. It is almost and just as fast as my Atrix in the stuff I was using it for to demo. But with LTE i was getting 14 MB downloads! It The Thunderbolt was rooted and had Wireless tether so free hotsopt and that was super fast as well. Don't know what to do! I ordered one to test and it should arrive Wednesday.! Waht do to? return the Atrix and go with a slightly slower phone but better customization and great roms? ARGH.........

Damn...which phone to get?

When I read about the Atrix about a month ago I decided then and there that I would get one. Then the CES coverage sealed the deal. Now after reading these forums for the last 2 hours I'm not sure and it mostly comes down to the locked bootloader. I'm still rocking my Tilt 2 and am used to dropping whatever ROMs and software I want on it. I've been waiting for a decent AT&T phone with a hardware keyboard but since I appear to be **** out of luck for the foreseeable future I figure it's time to upgrade. This will be my first Android phone but I've read the posts explaining the problems with a locked bootloader. I don't use my phone for games, basically just call, text, email, RSS, tethering, a handful of apps and occasionally remoting in to servers. I'm hoping people here can give me some advice. Should I:
Go with the Atrix?
Go with the HTC Insprie 4G?
Wait for the LG Optimus 2X (assuming it comes to AT&T, T-Mo sucks here)?
Wait for the Samsung Galaxy S2 (assuming it comes to AT&T)?
As you can see I stick with phones for a long time so any help would be appreciated. Of course I'm leaning towards the dual-core phones for future-proofing. If the bootloader is never cracked will those of you who bought the Atrix still be happy with it?
TIA.
From what you've said you use your phone for it doesn't seem like a locked bootloader is really going to affect you. I use the Inspire and love it. I have been thinking about the Atrix but I'm just not a huge MOTO fan. With root out for both the Inspire and Atrix it really comes down to personal pref. I'm sure someone will find a way to get past the lockdown on the Atrix(hopefully)

[Q] Dilemma inspire 4g vs atrix

Here is my dilemma. Tomorrow I have to buy a new phone no matter what! However I do not know what I want/need. .
So in one corner I have a Moto Atrix that I love for the hardware however I cannot stand the software and the boot-loader situation and in the other corner inspire 4g that I love for the fact that I can change the rom with cm7 however the hardware doesn't impresses me that much I find the battery to small for a phone that size.
If tomorrow Moto will say in x Nr of weeks we unlock the boot-loader I will buy the atrix and wait for the keys for the boot loader.
So what should I do? Do you guys think that there is a chance of Moto unlocking the boot loader? Or to be safe just get the inspire and never look back?
My previous phone was nexus one
Are both of e phones gonna work in Canada over bell's network?
Thanks
Imagine that, yet ANOTHER Atrix vs Inspire thread. My nickels worth of advice drawing from my own personal experience with both devices is get the Inspire. Hope is not a good upgrade strategy. That is all.

Thinking about getting an incredible...opinions wanted

My Verizon contract expires on the 26th but I'm really not feeling the selection of phones right now. I wanted n LTE phone until I realized the current offerings were sub par. Then I thought I would wait for the Bionic but with the release of the locked down Droid 3 I'm not feeling optimistic about the bionic. Being locked down is a deal breaker for me. I'm thinking about getting a used incredible locally for about 150 atleast until Verizon comes out with some worthy LTE contendors. Thoughts? I'm coming from an OG Droid by the way.

if u want LTE get the charge if you want 3G get the Dinc 2 or Dinc
Probably not a bad idea to get an original incredible and wait to see what happens with the bionic and sgs2.
Second that. Get the Inc used at a good price and hope for a legit LTE phone from HTC next year. I feel like Verizon is focused on getting LTE up and running this year as opposed to putting out really good phones.
I prefer HTC, myself. If the Sensation or EVO 3D were on Verizon I'd consider it. I think it's just an off year for Verizon and new phones.
I love my DInc, as does everyone else I've talked to or read a post from. It's a classic with unbelievable Dev support. Coming from OG Droid you won't be disappointed, esp if you like the slightly slimmer form factor.
Thanks for the feedback. I think I am going to go ahead and get one. I was definitely really impressed with the amount of dev support in the development forum. I think the bump in CPU speed/RAM + smaller form factor will be enough to tide me over for a year or so. I just didn't want to waste my upgrade on a phone right now and be locked in all through next year when hopefully better phones will be coming out.
yeah you won't be disappointed with the dinc. i still haven't found what i would like to replace it with. i'll keep it till it burns up (knock on glass)

My brother has the og droid, and I put miui on it (I have miui on my phone too), and the inc blows it out of the water. Even with an overclocked kernel on the droid, it can't compare to the inc. you'll love the speed increase and the awesome devs that the inc has!

The dInc blows the OG Droid out of the water, and is still a very competent phone by todays standards.
I actually really didn't like the Droid Incredible when I first used it because something seemed cheap about it. Realized a day later it was because of how quickly everything was loading on it, made it seem like there was no substance to the applications. Idiotic complaint? Yes, but my brain works in weird ways.
Love the phone. If you can get a cheap used/refurb I'd do that, I would be all about the SGS2 if it came with LTE, I'm thinking I may be waiting for the SGS3 to come out or one of the better HTC LTE phones.
I've had my DInc since the day after it was released and love mine. I almost got a DInc2 but decided against it. I will wait till Christmas time and try to get a multicore phone. My DInc does everything I need it to do, while there will always be a bigger and faster phone coming, I can wait.
Thanks for the support guys...meeting craigslist seller tomorrow morning for $125. Here's to hoping the VZW rep will tell me the ESN is clear!
Good luck, that sounds like a good price if its clean. I paid about $200 for mine 3-4 months ago if that's any indication.
I purchased mine off ebay. It's a great phone. My only complaint would be the screen. It's very hard to see outside in the daylight.

The incredible is a worthy upgrade from the OG Droid (I did the same thing in March), but only if you can get it for cheap. I got mine from verizon for $100. I only got it to satisfy my craving for faster technology since the lack of ram on the OG was pissing me off. I'll be ditching the incredible when I find a phone worthy of my (last) new every 2 (so essentially something thats 4G, Dual/Triple/Quadcore, and an unlocked bootloader), I wouldn't mind it if it launched with Ice Cream Sandwich either
you really can't go wrong with this phone... the devs having it doing things it was never designed for and it does it well! sense 3.0and panoramic camera are awesome.
The other deal for 125 fell through but I picked one up today..already loving the phone. MIUI is beautiful and it absolutely rips on this phone compared to my Droid.

There are alot of roms, by the time the first 2 weeks are over, you prolly flash 25 times! Try optimized shift and nils business gingersense, both fantastic roms.

I completely agree with you about upgrading to a Dinc2. My Dinc1 is awesome and I'd probably end up regretting using my upgrade on a Dinc2.
I wouldn't hesitate to tell someone to pickup a used Dinc1 at all. Coming from an OG Droid I couldn't be happier. I have to see if the Bionic is locked down, most likely will be, to make an upgrade decision. Guess I'll just have to be patient.

Newbie question

I hope this board is well supported when questions are asked and I really appreciate the replies.
I was thinking of diving into the world of Andriod. I don't have any experience with it but I will say the closest thing I come to installing firmware on a Phone is on my present phone Nokia 5800.
So my question
Is Bravo a good phone to try to root and make better with custom ROM? Person to start out with. My other choice is in phone is either Atrix or Atrix 2 but that is a more expensive phone to mess up. Hopefully I can use it for a year or two before I do a real upgrade.
Suggestions welcome.
I own both the bravo and the original Atrix (4G)
The Atrix v. Atrix2 horse has been bludgeoned to death pretty thorougly around here. I think there is a post presently at the top of the Atrix general forum that has many opinion on the matter.
The atrix is a FAR more heavily modded phone than the bravo. Many more ROMs available and a more active community.
The atrix is also a far nicer phone, spec wise, if not a bit larger.
The bravo is cheaper, smaller and slower. But by no means TOO slow.
If you follow directions, ask questions, double check steps, etc; you should not ruin your phone. I dove into atrix modding knowing relatively little about Android (I came from the world of the ILoveSteveJobs) and have not yet ruined my atrix, which is running one of the recent CM7 nightly builds.
Here is a post from the Atrix forums that is GREAT:
h ttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154600
It explains a lot of basic principals that apply to a lot of android phones. I referenced that CONSTANTLY when I first started.
If I were you and you could afford the Atrix, that is what I would get. Don't bother with the Atrix 2.
Atrix 2 and other
Thank you for the information.
Was wondering why you say don't bother with Atrix2? But then again Motorola phones don't seem to be known for their cameras that for sure.
That phone along with an LG Optimus 2X or LG Thrill was on my mind as well.
Ultimately I like having a device to do things on is nice like I would use the Netflix App or HuluPlus to watch shows and movies over wifi when I am not near a TV. I hope I would not need to install a Custom firmware every night or week but I do understand updating is important.
IMHO the Atrix2 is not a substantial enough improvement over the Atrix 4G to be worth the extra cost. Same res screen, same speed chip (though, a dif chip maker), same ram. The Atrix 2 has a nicer camera, but less internal storage and no finger print reader
if you're going to go on a new 2 yr contract from att, definitely get the atrix. as said before newest reiteration (atrix 2) is little improvement - spec wise - over OG atrix. Also, you will see an OTA ics update from motorola, as they came out with their update list a few days ago.
That being said, if you would like to get your feet wet with android, bravo is a very good phone. If your questions are not answered here, definitely visit motorola defy forums. Almost identical phone hardware except defy has 5 mp camera. Many, if not all froyo kernel defy roms will work on bravo. I, personally, keep hopping back and forth trying to milk every ounce of goodness from my bravo. Mine's unlocked, and luckily I only paid a penny for it . Although I do think the atrix was offered for the same price too at some point, don't know if it's still there - should be since it's relatively old.
Not with AT&T
I was with AT&T but just switched to StraightTalk with the purchasing a AT&T compatiable Simm card which now is operational in my Nokia 5800. I didn't want to get stuck in another contract. So I an open to any GSM phone preferably with 850/1900 UMTS to get 3G. But I think I could flip to TMobile if I wanted to at the end of my 30 days and get a StraightTalk TMobile Compatiable Simm card. The more I think I about there a few choices of phone for the Simm I have now and it seems to come back to Bravo or Atrix 4G. The Atrix I see for close to $380 and the Atrix 2 is not that much different from where I am looking. I talking New phone here. I looked at Craiglist and seeing Atrix 1 for arond $250 but I dont know what questions to ask about the phone if I went that route like a used car will get someone elses problems?

Replace Atrix 4G with Moto E?

I'm trying to get a better feel if i replaced my ole and trusty Atrix 4G with a Moto E. I don't really care about photos, i don't really play games on a mobile phone but my cousisns do, and i give them my Atrix to play, but i'm trying to see if i can get a better battery life. I use my work phone mostly for calls and 3G browsing/VPN, and at mid day i need to start looking for a charger. Would it be such a huge difference to switch from the Tegra 2 (A9 cores) to a Snapdragon 200 (A7 cores) in terms of performance and battery duration? If possible, i wouldn't like to get a decrease in performance (the Atrix is still better than most low- and mid-range phones out there, for shame) especially for gaming, but if i do, i would like it to be the least noticeable drop possible.
Buy a couple of extended batteries for your Atrix. I don't know about the moto E performance, with the specs, I would stick with my Atrix.
