Before I start I want yo say that this is not solo for the AT&T version, but any version and I would like to hear it from you guys, opinions fears and hopes.
Leme be the first on this post that says I'm going to get this baby. why? I'm interested I'm the docks as its being a smartphone feature I've personally being expecting the most as I see a promising future. I know this may be the first but won't be the last and hopefully becomes a common feature with the time that will be considered rather useful with increasing smartphone technology.
What I fear is how thigh Motorola plans on closing the bootloader... only allowing little development for the phone.
My hopes are that Motorola in plans on cleaning their reputation will find (or has found) a way to get them both(security and openness) walking together down the same road

In my opinion, its the best Android to come out on AT&T which I am currently happy with. I bought just the phone and got a great price. Coming from an iPhone 4 and anxious to try out Android finally.
Aside from the obvious reasons to buy the Atrix, I am a Motorola two-way radio technician and I constantly get asked by my customers as to why I don't carry a "Droid". Well for one, I don't like the way CDMA sounds compared to GSM and two, I get a 15% discount with at&t that I can't get with any other carrier.
Since at&t works very well in the areas I need service, I've got no reason to switch.
I will be getting the Atrix.
Im living in Europe and for me its presently a decision between the LG Optimus 2X or the Motorola Atrix 4G.
And at the moment I am more or less solo considering the Atrix, but I will only get the Atrix provided:
1: It can get root (Done)
2: Its bootloader is not locked
2a: Or in the case that it is locked, that the lock is broken by the time I want to get it.
Thats really what it all comes down to for me at this point. I dont want to pay several 100 dollars for a damned phone that I am not "allowed" to mess with "for my own safety". What a load of crap really.
If those 2 things I listed get cleared up come April, then I am getting the Atrix . And if not then I am getting the LG instead. Its that simple really...
Why not buy it? The best phone in the market now, man!

Same here, although I did own a razr back in the day. Great specs on this device.
This was a simple choice for me. Finally a good android phone on my carrier and I'm up for a equipment discount. I'm glad I waited the few extra months.
Does anyone know if the Nvidia app store will be on the Atrix? I know I saw a video on it but I have not seen it reviewed in any of the videos I've seen for the Atrix on youtube.
Yes I am getting it, and the efuse doesn't bother me at all. The specs of the phone are great and I really don't have a problem with stock.
It will make a nice upgrade from my Nexus One
I know people wish upon this few things that they can't have. But this will make a great phone until next year.
I have a nexus one, so this really is a resolution upgrade for me since my N1 is pentile as well.
The N1 has horrible battery life compared to the Atrix, and the touch sensor is garbage. So these two things alone will make make my usage of the phone better.
Non proprietary HDMI and USB ports are much nicer than the $50 cable Samsung wants to charge.
I despise AT&T for disabling HSUPA, and this really make it not a 4G phone, but T-Mobile sucks here and Sprint has nothing interesting. We're getting LTE this year so next year I may consider Verizon.
For now, this Atrix is a pretty good thing for me.

this is a stand out phone , because of the docks. maybe in the future more modal phones/comps will be on the market. So as the first (beside the foleo) the atrix has to be in the personal collection or history (similar to the Nokia 8110, Ericcson r520m, SE T68, Nokia N95, iPhone 2G and some others). I tell you, sometimes you will look back, and maybe the atrix will be one of your phones you will remember, the docks pricey or not will make the difference.

So here's the deal:
I'm on AT&T, been using an Aria with CM 7 RC for awhile now. I had the Atrix 4g, but after some issues with data connection and figuring "better safe than sorry" when it came to the bootloader situation, I decided it just wasn't meant to be. Now I'm wanting something a little more after the atrix vs my Aria, but I'm still on AT&T for now (family plan), and am hesitant to extend my contract (Inspire is too big anyway)
So my question to you, users of the original Google phone: is it still worth it?
I figure I can buy a nexus one on ebay for ~$400 for AT&T's bands, and sell it again (or keep it because it's so cool) when its time for a new contract. Is it worth getting the N1 at this point or is it getting too heavily outclassed, even with development and the latest software, or is it still kicking strong and will last me until at least some quad-core LTE super nexus 3 comes out?

Keep an eye on the Marketplace forum here. You'll get a good N1 for less than $400.
They are still worth buying if you can get a bargain.
As the seasons change and I'm outside more and the sky is often brighter. The fact that the N1 screen isalmost impossible to see outside is really annoying. Unless you never go outside I'd say stay away from the N1.
Also, the touch screen is awful. Every game must have their touch controls in odd places for them to actually work on the N1. Really makes it feel like a crappy device.
I really do like my N1, but these things were reasons I probably should have returned it over a year ago. No way I'd recommend someone get it now.

At $400, I wouldn't. Quick craigslist search shows several around the country at $200-$250. For that price I would, and if any were in my own backyard, I would probably grab a second one.
Yes its a nice phone. No I would not spend 400 for it now. Aria is a nice phone. Inspire is best deal at this moment. I don't see why u pick up a N1. U get custom roms on aria. If you want new device get a tablet. HTC flyer is on its way or Samsung tab will be out soon.
But don't get me wrong. I love my N1. It's just that their is nothing that interest me at this time. Maybe gte t-mobile g2x. It will be compatible with ATT and its dual core. The best part vanilla android. I wait though and see how it reviews.

First, I LOVE my N1. I run the CM7 nightlies on it, I use Titanium Backup to yank core sys apps from the nightlies that I don't care about. I've got 155 apps on it (thanks to Apps2SD) and SetCPU is running the clock at just a little over stock speed.
And I get to do all that with hardly the hassle others complain of with their non-N1 phones.
The N1 will continue to hold the hearts of Devs for as long as there's nothing with better specs that's as open and easy to work with.
Yes, get an N1, but you can do better than $400 (unless that's including a car or desk dock). If/When Google comes out with a 'real' successor (sorry, a rebadged Galaxy-S isn't a true successor) just sell off the N1 and upgrade.
The N1 is no longer top in class. If you want a pure android feeling, the N1 I'd recommend. But if you want better, then I'm guessing go for the Nexus S... does the Ns have an Att version?
The best thing about N1 is that the OS is android, not some mesh of other bloatware and junk provided by the manufacture HTC, Motorola, and the service provider ATT, Verizon... Of course, you can root, and put on a custom rom, and that's all resolved anyway.

If I lost or broke my N1 today, I would, without hesitation, start the hunt to buy a new one. Unfortunately I'm on AT&T so finding an AT&T 3G N1 isn't as simple as buying it from the Google Developer site, but I would probably snag one off feeBay.
I'd have to go with no...unless you can get it for 200-250. While it is a nice phone and holds well against these beasts nowadays I can't justify a purchase due to the lack of internal memory and the horrid "multi-touch" panel. I too am waiting for a true nexus successor (Nexus S? yea okay.) and hopefully I won't have to wait long but there are nice phones on AT&T running android so im sure the inspire would be a better pick...or hold out for a few more months for whatever monsters are announced following Google I/O
i still love my nexus one to death, and still cannot find anything on the market now that i consider better than the nexus one simply because of the whole package, color trackball, design and build quality and materials, etc. so i say you should go for the nexus one.

Figured that, since T-mobiles 1700 3g radio frequency is eventually going to be changed to Att LTE and the T-mobile Nexus One completely wont work once that happens, that every day I keep it is another day that the value will go down. Thought I better get out now and lock in my profit before others figure this out and start to flood Craigslist with cheaper prices.

I read an article on Engadget yesterday about how T-mo is planning to roll out LTE in 2013 but that they also have lost just under a million customers in the last quarter. About 50% of the comments were people saying how much they love T-Mo, the other T-Mo haters explaining why they left or are leaving. One of the most common complaints I read was "lack of a decent phone line-up". Many pointed to Verizon as having the best Android line up, quality devices, best service, coverage blah blah blah. After reading this I realized something. The more devices a carrier releases in a short amount of time the quicker the devices become obsolete and left behind. Not just by the OEM and carrier, but the dev community as well. Case in point: A good friend of mine called me earlier in the month and was complaining about the bloatware on his new Droid Bionic. Another friend was complaining about his Droid X not working properly. Both of these friends wanted my help rooting and installing a custom ROM. When I pulled up the development page for both phones I was surprised at how quiet it was and how so few decent ROMS there were available. Eclipse and Liberty looked like the only two decent ones but both had not been updated in quite a while. The Droid X was a very popular phone, why so little support? Then I looked at my Vibrant running ICS Euphoria, remembered all of the ROMS & kernels I had flashed before that, Trigger, T.W. Bionix, Bi-Winning, Bullet, Tiger's Blood, Destroyer of Worlds, Overstock, the list goes on and on! There is still enthusiastic development for the Vibrant which by today's standards should be an obsolete device! Its still chugging along! I picked up the SGS2 on the "free phone day" and was pleasantly surprised to see several of the same people supporting that phone too, like Eugene, Roman, Whitehawkx. Wow!
So maybe a lack of selection is not always a bad thing? There seems to be a genuine "community" around T-Mo and that is a good thing. Just makes me wish more people would learn to root and tap into their phone's full potential instead of complaining and jumping ship because of "poor selection". I know we are in the minority, not many people care to root their devices or even know what that means, too bad they are missing out on a great community!

You know. I agree. I have been looking at the new phones coming out and my fingers are itching to pick something else up. But instead of buying something new I picked up a second and third Vibrant. Mainly because I actually bricked my first one the other day. Got these other two cheap on Craigslist. Put Euphoria on it with KISS 2.2 on it and I actually have working GPS!
Going to send my bricked one into Josh at MobileTechVideos.com and have him jtag it to life again. Then I will have 3 of them. Add some new bezel because the two I got had some issues with them. Install the FFC on it and then sell them on Ebay or something for a small profit.
Well. I just want to THANK our awesome dev community and supporters. You are awesome! Not to mention those old Devs who have left the Vibrant but was a big part of the initial making the Vibrant one of the greatest phones out there.
Hello, I just wanted to say that I just recently bought my 1st smartphone, which is of course the Vibrant. Im really in love with this phone, Im just a little dissapointed that T-Mobile is not really giving support to the phone anymore (after Froyo), but like you said, I'm very happy that a lot of people is still paying attention to the phone, developing stuff.
T-Mo does have a ****ty phone selection. Top tier phones at T-Mo are what? Sensation loaded down with carrier iq, and ridiculously poor battery. And the SGSII, from Samsung, who has proven time and again that support for older phones is not worth their effort, and its just plain too big for the resolution. Sure it has great devs, but they can't add ppi. Not to mention it will never see an official ics release, so no matter how good the devs are, there will always be bugs. I'm about to give up on T-Mo myself...just can't bring myself to accept AT&T as my new overlord yet...

T-mobile lost many customer is mostly younger people who want to go with Iphone 4s. This is why T mobile dont carry Iphone. The only thing I like T mobile is that they have a better price on service rate plan.Rest of the other cell phone provider dont have a better plan than t mobile have. Like I can call long distance any time any day and other provider have time limited are only after 7pm to 10pm. T Mobile do have crappy phone selection right now but their main popular phone is SGS2 they have sell more phone than other cell phone provider sell. T mobile will have a better phone selection there many new phone are coming this year. I bet you there will be alot of good phone by the end of 2012 before christmas they going to sell tons of new phone and good deal to buy.

I'll never own another CDMA phone if I can avoid it. Not to mention the ridiculous prices for Verizon plans, I don't care if they drop the GSX with hyper threading 24 core processor and a 3600mAh battery in a 1mm thick chassis with the Hubble telescope for a camera for $99 on two year contract tomorrow, I wouldn't switch to them. Sprint, maybe, but like I said, I would rather not ever own a cdma phone again.

I'm thinking of getting the HTC One S when tmobile starts to sell it this month. It looks like a great phone and has all the features I want. Was wondering if anyone else is thinking of getting it.
Its nothing compared to the one s though. Better of waiting for the s3 since you'll be using it for two years.

i'll probably get one. benchmarks show the S4 dualcore outdoes the T3 quadcore chip. no need to wait around for a One X. By that time, the SGS3 should be out.
I'm actually still waiting for a device for tmobile with a true hd display.. similar to that of the current galaxy nexus. From what I understand the oneX has one but I'm not aware of any plans for it coming over to tmobile. Also personally, I'm not a fan of how the camera protrudes out the back of many htc phones.
Even though I'm quite satisfied with my vibrant running ics passion (occasional gps issues aside).. I've started to notice the lack of power while browsing and the occasional lags more and more. I used my friends galaxyS2 (att) the other day and was blown away at the speed and was left wanting more out of my phone.
I get a sense that tmobile is really dragging their heels in getting better devices. If I didn't have a serious dislike of being on mobile contracts I probably would have jumped ship already. I can live without true 4g.. fake 4g (hspa+) seems plenty fast to me... even my 3g vibrant is probably good enough for what I use the phone for.

and hoping tmobile steps up their game and offers some nicer devices.
All I want is a phone with a 4.7 HD screen, removable batt and micro sd, seems to be hard to find...nothing around the corner, still on the vibrant, nothing in sight so far...Sprint's EVO One (ONE X sprint style) looks great, but it's sprint and their data speeds are crap and no one has them so you use up anytime minutes quick...
There's a few phones I keep seeing, like LG and couple of others, but for some reason the US can't get **** for phones, like the rest of the world does, or if they do it's on att or verizon, and no, I don't want to pay 150/month for my cell phone..
I want a phone with about a 4.3" screen, flash on the camera, removable battery, and Micro SD. Preferably with that new S4 snapdragon... that things appears to be a beast. But I'm looking for a phone that devs are going to get behind. After having been in the Vibrant community, it'd be really hard to live with a phone that didn't have good dev support. I would honestly be really happy with my wife's HTC Amaze 4g if the dev support was more like the Vibrant. That phone is a beast and I can only imagine how smooth it would run with a good rom like CM9 on it. (but it's my wife's so it's staying stock LOL)
The non-removable battery and no Micro SD is a deal breaker for me. I'm also surprised to see only 16Gb of internal storage in any new phone, especially this one.
I need a phone that blows my socks off the same way my Vibrant did after it was rooted and customized. If there are any regrets I'll be seriously disappointed.

I just want a phone whose GPS works reliably and a good DAC. I mainly use my phone for those two things. I was hoping HTC would've nailed a good DAC (as I'm aware that HTC has the best GPS rigs), but it just wasn't meant to be.
I am going to wait for a better phone. The One S just doesn't do it for me. Sure its probably better than the vibrant but if I'm going to extend my contract, which has been up for about 8 months, I'm going to need a phone that I will be happy with for the next two years. When the next generation of phones which are almost here are offering far superior specs and capabilities, it makes no sense to upgrade to a mildly better phone. T-Mobile should see that and not insult us with "little brother" phones. If I'm paying for it, plus two years on contract, I want my moneys worth. I'm a big boy and I like big boy toys.
I would have loved to get the One S, but would never consider buying a phone with only 16GB and no microSD. I can't tell you how much I want to avoid buying anything from Samsung ever again due to anger over the Vibrant GPS problems and lack of update and other support.
I am opening this thread in hopes it will keep other threads cleaner. Motorola did not update to ICS. we know that.
One suggestion I have is JUMP ship. get a different device. You can get a pantech bust for about $100 on ebay with official ICS. I got a galaxy note for $150 myself. The atrix still goes for around $100.
I still have my atrix as a backup phone.
suggestion 2 keep going the rout of requesting cooperation from moto/punit etc. Yes you may feel it is falling on deaf ears and you may be correct.
My main suggestion and point of this thread is please stop posting about this in every atrix thread on XDA. THese threads are to help the atrix community and people must now search harder to find what they are looking for because they must wade through post after post of motohate then post after post of bickering at other members.
please keep our threads clean
if you have any suggestions of what can be done or good deals on alternative phones post them here

About jumping ship. I do realize that my suggestion does not help those with all the docks and accessories as much. I do not know what the docks sell for. And I can't speak of the quality of the burst. I do know it requires a smaller sim card. I was just suggesting it as a means to swap for a device with similar specs that is on official ICS with no major cost in the end. I am pleased with the quality of my note but I realize that I got it almost $100 less than average used price
I cant buy another phone...I dont have the money and I have a contract with an operator...and the note in my country cost a lot much than my atrix...so any other sugestion???

I am in US and realize I got a great deal on note. And Also realize that even buying burst even though it has little cost in end has upfront cost of nearly 100 US. I am on straightalk att sim. I am still burnt by moto. I have a nonupgradeable device that is still under manufacture warranty so I don't want to get rid of it yet. hopefully more people will have suggestions as well
I sold my Atrix for a good price ($200) without the lapdock.
then again, I sold it to someone who asks me everyday about how to do stuff, so I consider the extra price as a bonus for all the things I've helped him with.
I got a Note and never looked back. Never again, Motorola. Never.
Still, I'm stuck with an Atrix because my boss has it and he always wants a different ROM. It's a good phone. Such a shame Motorola was backing it.
Well...in my country (argentina) a new atrix on a contract cost 1800 pesos argentinos and a Note on a contract cost 3500 pesos argentinos...so if I want to buy it w/o a contract the note cost 5000 pesos argentinos.
So Im f***...thats why I still pushing moto or punit to release the source code...

AT&T has their own trade in program and currently they value my device at $36. Obviously that's a bit on the low side, but the reality is that something is only worth what you can sell it for, whether that's $10 or $100, and ebay is loaded with them, especially after the ICS cancellation.
That said, I'm stuck in a contract with mine for the next few months with no way out and no money to jump ship. Once opportunity does present itself, I will have to see what's available at the time, but tbh, this was my first true smart phone, yet I'm still feeling stupid for getting it.
Get a phone used that is older than the 4g and has been upgraded to ICS.
My thoughts are you have always been able to upgrade your PC, laptop and other computers at will. Why are phones and tablets any different?
I think the answer is simple: greed. There have always and only ever been excuses that all point to controlling consumer options and taking away freedoms in order to accomplish a bottom line.
For that, I do not believe buying another device will matter. We always end up supporting someone's idea of controlling my content. Screw that. I bought the device, I should be allowed to install what I want. Not what ATT or Motorola or Apple or even Google wants but what I want.

I do not know how it is in the rest of the world but in the US craigslist is a good source for used phones. as with anything though there are also scammers out there. It was sad to see atrix price drop after ics cancelation. I think they went for almost 200 before to 150 after and now about 150. I got my wife a nexus 7 recently. I know it will stay updated but felt a bit bad purchasing from Motorola parent company Google.
My Atrix is just the latest in a long line of attempts to get a good deal for cheap that partially failed. Got my Atrix just before the announced cancellation of the update. Only good thing is I'm not stuck with a contract. I would have made another phone choice, if I'd jknow was being lied to my Moto.
For me its not so much about them failing on the upgrade. Its more about moto actively trying to keep us from getting ICS or any other rom on our own. Locking bootloaders on updates and ordering cease and desist on the leaked kernel. Its a big FU right in all of our faces. I just can't believe a company would actively do this to their customers, not even their regular customers... the enthusiast. makes no sense to me, before the atrix moto is the only phone company I would have. Now its the only one I refuse to buy.

On top of money and carrier contracts we may be stuck in, there's also the issue of carrier compatibility. For those of us with AT&T, I'm sure there are devices they don't offer that will work, and some may even have full capabilities, but when it comes to their current offerings, it's pretty slim pickings, regardless of what OS you want.
my brother asked me today if he could use a s3 from sprint on att. I said sadly no. would be nice since sprint phones always seem to go for less money. probably because they have a worse network. I told him to buy it anyway because they wanted 150 for it and I know it is worth more even if the esn is bad. I have been watching for a good used dual core that is updated for my wife. I am not in a hurry because I want a deal. she has atrix as well for now. been looking at lg nitro and s2 s3 onex. probably some others
I picked up a pantech burst for my wife yesterday for 65$. waiting for simcard cutter. dual core and ICS. plus I can still sell atrix for more than that
Haven't been on XDA for a while. What am I missing? There's plenty of stable Jellybean ROMs around.
Fingerprints a gimmick and you can get a camera app. How good do you want your phone camera to be anyway?
Not being inflammatory but get a ROM and enjoy it until your phone dies a natural death.
In fact mine died and I brought a new one for cheap, that's how happy I am with Th3bills Liquid Smooth.

Blame Google they control moto now.I got a new phone few weeks back still have my atrix themed all out sweet sits home on WiFi still want to update the kernel in it learning a new phone now am support is dieing on the atrix..

I've got a new phone. i717 note on cm10. a pantech burst on official ics. and will soon be playing with a HTC desire that will have fully functional jellybean. I like playing with these old phones then selling them for more than I paid. and my atrix got replaced under warranty and there is no way as of now to unlock the bootloader.
Even when/if a new kernal is built my atrix is locked. Mine will most likely be sold soon but I want to try the soak test first. Might keep it for a while though as it is under warranty
if there’s a time machine，i would choose Nexus S rather other than Atrix 4g. The crude reality slapped my face，how foolish i was.
