Yes they fixed some bugs from eb13. I'm getting faster 3g speed and no data lockups.

Like? I'm on ec05 from eb13. I haven't noticed a modem-specific difference except one un sent sms on ec05.
I've been running the SyndicateROM 1.0.2 on the EB13 build and my performance was outstanding. I was getting benchmarks 1997 on Quadrant Standard. But I just flashed SyndicateROM 1.1.0 on the EC05 build and my performance dropped significantly. But only in numbers. It still feels as fast. And it feels more stable. I don't see any FCs and my 3G and GPS seem more stable, but my benchmarks dropped to 1327 on my last run. -___- I don't know what to make of this

Winnar!!! ACS has said numerous times they don't make their ROMs to have high benchmark scores, they make them for everyday use. To make them as fast and stable as possible for what you actually use the phone for, not for test.

I would check out Smartbench 2010 or 2011 for benchmarks, seems to give a better comparison than other benchmark apps, at least IMO
As to the Modem, I seem to get better 3G signal in places I was getting a poor signal before, and my GPS works better than it ever has before

I think that may be more to do with the new kernel in their new rom. they raised the fps cap and the overclocking. Everyones epic will react a little different to those changes. I have also noticed when graphics get intensive in games it seems to lag a little more then before but not much. Not trying to knock them its an amazing rom and its my daily. Just saying. Your benchmarks are way low though 1327 im asuming your talking quadrant? Im usualy around 2000.

I seem to have less latency in general. Throughput itself is about the same though.
I can't speak about call quality since the phone function sees very little use in my sad little life.
I know I'm just some random, anonymous internet dweeb who could be anyone but my opinion on benchmarks are this:
1) They're great for waggling e-penii.
2) Practically, they're a fair tool to use when comparing different ROMs and changes but ONLY when they're on the same hardware (i.e., your own phone)
3) They are useless tools when comparing to other people's phones even if they're the same hardware/model.
But, as you can see from my disclaimer below, it's just like, my opinion, man.

Yea, when I was running on the EB13 modem my quadrant scores were pushing about 2000 also
since updating to ec05, I've found that data takes a bit longer to connect, but once it does its faster. I've also found that not when I'm sitting at my desk at home my phone will drop calls frequently which it never did before.... I walk 10 feet out onto my balcony and my signal increases from 0 bars to 5 bars and call quality is good. Never had this issue before ec05.

Hey guys,
I've been doing these benchmarks alot on WinMo before I got my first Android device. I always felt Winmo was sluggish, but look at this:
GLBenchmark link
I compared the Nexus with a Milestone, HD2 and 3GS. And it shocked me... The HD2 is faster at most benchmarks!
Is that because of the SDK with OpenGL ES 2.0 isn't used yet?
Hoping this could be improved, because I left Winmo because of this.
I don't believe this benchmark.
Okay, you're comparing several different platforms here. The HD2 and the Nexus One have the exact same GPU.
More accurate: this particular benchmark is faster on its Windows Mobile port than on its Android port.

Generally speaking in these types of benchmarks, the benchmark is set by the highest-scoring device. 100% would be the king for that specific test.
You would be correct, Android 2.1 as it is on our phones doesn't have all of the graphics boosters. To bo honest, it isn't that surprising IMHO, since these benchmarks are hugely influenced by the software itself, otherwise ROM cooking wouldn't do anything for increasing these #'s.
Maybe you could re-run this with a Cyan ROM, which has lots of those little things added in, such as the Arm Neon graphics inhancing(or whatever the heck its exact name is).
Also, keep in mind, that there are more important factors than "benchmarks".

I agree, with this, but adding one more thing instead of just testing different phones, test these benchmarks on cyan and emnother. With the nexus our graphics performance is aided by software so hardware isnt going to be the kicker between the hd2 and the nexus.

I agree that static benchmarks aren't anything, but the Nexus should be at least able to score comparable to the HD2, right? Hardware is the same, it's just the software that differs... alot.

Good to see you here too babijoee. I'm trying to get someone on the MSM bandwagon to coordinate it, but Snapdragon is just so much more interesting... Anyways, goodtimes.
Anyways, I'm not setting up a group until i'm fairly certain the N1 CAN get better. I want to compare the N1 with the Desire and then again when OGLES 2.0 is fully implemented.
Nothing official but defiantly interesting:

I'm sure if everything mentioned here would defiantly give the n1 a substantial performance increase
Definitely worth waiting for. I'll see if I can track improvements in the graphics area of the N1 once Froyo is out.

I just ran it on my Desire. The upload failed so i dont have exact figures to prove anything, but it looks much the same as the N1 listed on their site. Most things are within 5%. My HD2 running a dutty custom ROM and Chainfires driver hack is a bit faster.
Raging Thunder 2 run extremly fast on N1, faster than moto chaser on ipod touch 2g. Anyway mobile benchmarks are always bulls**t
This might not be the right fourm but could someone please tell me why HTC phones are twice as fast than the Epic on linpack? I've tried a EVO and a Droid Incredible, both get a score of 32.500! Why?
Because JIT is optimized for Snapdragon processors, you see more performance boosts with those phones. However, mere benchmarks do not translate to real world performance whatsoever. My Epic is faster than any phone that's out there. Never go by benchmarks, lot of them are as useless as the Windows Experience Index crap. Our phones have the better hardware, when official Froyo is out and devs get the source, you'll see how powerful it really is.
Because linpack performance does not equal real life performance.... I also recall reading that linpack has not been optimized for the epic's processor. However, try 30 seconds using an evo and compare it to the epic and you'll have your actual answer

I think they are a 128 bit system versus 64 bit. But all I hear from evo user is the epic is faster

Just like cars, there's always someone faster...I think it is pure ignorance to state you alone have the fastest phone in the whole world. *shrug* For me my user experience is awesome and i know firsthand that benchmarks don't tell the whole story and can be faked. With tmpfs and a little knowhow anyone can 3000+ on quadrant.
Sent on the go from my mobile device
I didn't mean to come across as arrogant. I didn't mean I alone have the fastest phone in the world at all. I meant with everything that's out in terms of OC'd kernels, Epic owners in general have faster phones than practically any other out there (currently). Benchmarks are not high, but that does not translate to real world performance which is what I was getting at.
Essentially what has been said before: Linpack has been compiled and optimized for the other processor. Someone has to write code for each specific processor in order for it to take advantage of each one's architecture. Back when Intel's Nahalem chips came out, similar results were observed (I used to build HPC clusters).
Try nenamark1. The epic smokes the evo in that test
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Simple, linpack is a test checking for raw CPU power via floating points..Snapdragon has a thing called a VFP which is a Floating Point Accelerator...
Aka instead of checking raw CPU power of the CPU..your checking how fast the the VFP processes floating points lol..
To give an example, its like one person actually taking a test, while the other is copying off an answer sheet..who will be the fastest?
If you go by benchmarks that have not had their code optimized for the Snapdragon, where it is more apples to apples (it will never be completely apples to apples), the Hummingbirds generally come out on top.
Plus, if you look at gaming, the FPS on the Hummingbird is much faster. Of course, CPU and graphics benchmarks are quite different.
It has a keyboard
Thread moved to General.
I'm pretty new to android phones but I did my homework before i decided on my epic. My wife wanted the Evo for the larger MP camera and bigger screen so we ended up with one of each. Form the time i've spent on my wife's evo and the time she has spent with my Epic we both have to agree that the Epic preforms far better in realworld test. The scrolling is smother and it has a better overall experience than the evo. So forget about benchmarks... just try one head to head and you'll see which one is the better device..
I've said this before and will say it again. My rooted evo with cm6 and oced to 1.12 ghz isn't as smooth as my epic was out the box. My evo gets 1500 on quadrent while my epic gets 1100 with no jit. Now you tell me wich phone is faster?

The phone runs fells like it's running faster and smoother to me than it did on 2.1 with a custom kernel. Quadrant score is lower though, so does that mean my phone is slower? No. Quadrant is just a test, its results mean absolutely nothing in terms of actual performance. If it did, that'd mean that Snapdragons are the superior CPU/GPU combo, when we all know that the Hummingbird is the most advanced chip in a phone outside of the Tegra 2.

I scored just over 1000 on EB01 non-voodoo but it really doesn't mean squat! I dunno why it doesn't score higher cause it fly's the way it is now... I mess with a friends Dinc all the time and I can see a huge difference in "Real World" use!

Hahaha... Too funny
Benchmarking is good for 2 things, and ONLY 2 things:
1. Comparing a device to itself with different configurations to determine performance increases (like JIT vs non-JIT, voodoo vs non-voodo, etc).
2. Comparing one device to another with the same software configuration to determine build quality, find a hardware fault, etc (i.e. 2 identical SGS phones with identical software configuration, but one scores 1,500, and the other scores 600).
Other than that, benchmarks are nothing but pissing contests where one or both participants could be aiming into the wind at any given time (no matter the situation, someone ends up all wet).
Think I found an answer for you.

Phones ARE computers these days. Fast computers rock. Why do you make the comparison to a laptop and state that a "phone" is anything less. Phone is just a word to describe the original function of these micro-devices. They are 1% phone and 99% other-than-phone. Broaden your horizon(s).

These scores do have a meaning to the people who run the tests. I mean, that's like asking, "why do you race your car at the drag strip?" Easy! To see how my car ranks against others. Not surprising when you see the real world performance of 2.1 vs 2.2 on the Epic. 2.1 was smoother, faster and all around more stable. Don't believe me? One simple test, pull down the notification bar on 2.1 and 2.2. When compared, you see that on 2.2 it is super choppy in comparison to the perfect smoothness of 2.1. I hate to say this...

1. How are you doing a quadrant benchmark? Mine errors out at "decoding video". (10/12)
2. I am working on a 1.2 ghz overclock kernel. So far a lot of bugs, maybe that's why quadrant failed... if I succeed, I will try 1.4... if I can even out the major bugs I will release it.
Also, just want to add that on said kernel I got a 6752 overall in Chainfire...

Also, just want to add that on said kernel I got a 6752 overall in Chainfire...

You're likely getting an error at "decoding video" because you have used your camera. In order to get quadrant to work properly, you have to run a benchmark before you've opened the camera and caused it to force close.

or, if you want all those features, don't install a pre-beta version of a ROM?
highest quadrant score i've gotten so far is 3400-3500, what are you guys doing with your settings to get so high?

I'm not sure how many times you've tried the test, but I did it about five times in a row and each time my score raised by about 150 until it steadied at 4200 or so. Make sure to free as much RAM and extra processor usage as possible using a task manager or similar. Also, are you at 1.1Ghz? That's what I'm at with the kernel that came with the CM7 pre-beta install. I believe it is faux's kernel.

Lol, and unmount your storage (just plug it into the computer, mass storage)
