Isn't this Apple's style....we are making something and we know better than you that it is good for you!! I know its very hard to share WIP but isn't the idea to share the progress/development of product even when its under construction???

first android is about sharing which is why TW follows the gpl and releases kernel source code and anything else they are required to by the apache gpl.
that said they are by no means required to show you their progress on a rom or what ever it is they are developing that is their business. Google doesnt keep us updated every step of the way with their modifications to android.
and finally you created a username just for this??? cmon man

Wow youve got some nerve! TW don't owe you sh¡t ....open source means YOU can go look up and add or change things....not demand that for instance TW owes you something ...they don't work for you or for any of us,they do what they do for fun and enjoyment.....go away before you drive our devs away

Just want to give my 2 cents on this one: @OP STFU! and I mean that with all sincerity. Wtf are you talking about? Do you realize how stupid you sound? And you didn't even have the balls to use your real user name. I bet your one of those loosers that always ask for updates. Please do us all a favor and jump off the tallest building you can find.

While I also have been wondering what TW has been working on I don't think they owe me an update. In fact, since they've been so quiet I can only assume they've been working on something really big which will be worth the wait.

Ehh, no worries man, I think they're working on something Great, or taking a well deserved break, they've done more than enough for us, that being said, they don't have to share ( I would like them too, but it's not required ) and I kind of like the surprises they give us
+1 for me having the nicest response
Uh.....what?
This post doesn't make any sense.
Som is barely back from taking time off and he's already working on his projects again. Krylon needed a rest too. Tonicacid has been continually working on his fantastic themes and has kept in contact with the TW community.
FFS, these ppl have real lives with real **** going on. Iunno about you, but I'm not about to ask these guys to leave the important stuff just to come make a ROM for my phone.
The sad part of the whole thing is that ppl would've known wtf was going on if they bothered to follow the dev's twitter or their communities where they said that they'd be taking time off in the first place.
Seriously, the sense of entitlement I'm seeing on these forums is starting to make me sick. If this crap keeps going on, even more dev's are gonna jump off of XDA and make private communities like Eugene did.
@OP, please, if you really gave a crap about what's up with TW, effing get up off of your ass and look at the OPs in their posts; they contain the links to their forum and their FB.
You know how TW works: they want to put out quality stable ROMs, Som keeps us up with his work and even updates us periodically on what's going on. Hell, he even recently asked us about what features we'd like to see.
.....and yes, +1 to cashy for being nice (because god knows I've completely lost my patience).
The reason for the secrecy is.....
TW is starring in their own reality show! Its called 'Android OS's next top coder'. On the show, a shadowy executive gives devs assignments and tasks to complete on a series of different Android phones.
The dev that does the worst has to face off in a challenge against a dev who is voted for elimination.
Most of these challenges involve hacking bootloaders or disassembling SIM code.
Its ZANY! The rest of the episode has interviews and confessions of devs and clips of them debugging and compiling code.
Exciting stuff

What do you think community? Shun, or wait for a confession/wanna be back talk?
Well I want to know how many of you all who used his roms will continue to if he continues to "make" them or yet he claims he does.
He can go to hell, open source is a beautiful thing and the success of Linux is due at the fact that people all over the world contribute to it and help, not because one asshole is so egotistical he has to steal and try to get credit for **** he hasn't even done.
That's all there needs to be said about it.
Haykuro is clearly a solid individual, a great spirited guy and here to help.
Drizzy? Lets see, shady as ****, egotistical, here for credit and donations of other peoples work.
It's clearly about ethnics and morals.
and to the gentlemen above me people will probably still use his roms, there's nothing like a new dev name in the Android platform, but let's just wait till his roms become malicious and everyone comes crying and a REAL dev such as Hykuro or Cyan has to clean it all up.

I never touched Drizzy's ROM's because of what I've noticed with his support before he skipped scene.

Hmm, I have always suspected some ROM releaser to be behind this. Not the ones I deal with but someone lol. If it happens to be Drizzy, I am not surprised.
I came to the scene when most of the dust had already settled and people where moving on, and releasing bigger and greater things. I have always noticed something peculiar about the way Drizzy would get into some kind of quarrel with someone, then it would be a love fest for him, then again with a quarrel, then a Drizzy tribute. Its kind of interesting.
I probably don't know much of the whole situation but that's what I have noticed.

my thread got moved to here haha.
Why exactly is this topic needed? Keep this discussion in the other thread(s).
At this point I could care less if the mods wish to close this thread or not. This thought or statement was generated by the recent release of the 2.1 sdk (i put it in development because it deals with development-unless there is a "i'm tired of the bs section"). I do have to throw my 2 cents on here in regards to the stupidity and lack of sense demonstrated by our devs as well as our users. . Lately there has been a whole lot of bs fighting in regards to dumb ish like "credit" for this that and the 3rd, or "he did this and he did that", or "he stole this from here", and useless competition (although competition can be healthy, at this point its dumb). Let me state that all of you are full of ****. At this point I would've thought that all of you would realize that this entire forum is sorta like a family all coming together for a common goal. Yes if you want to look at it in another way, you can say we got different families spread out i.e Diamond, Android,HD2 etc (y'all get my point), yet I noticed that all that occurs is bs fighting. Like wake the hell up and work together. EVERYONE is dying to get a stable working/near perfect 2.1 rom working on their device (damn even wm dudes are porting android so that's gotta mean something). Right now I know what's up...Y'all got the "I WAS FIRST" syndrome. How bout this. All you devs that know how to make all this ish work for us users (who have no real knowledge of it) get together and work to get 2.1 working on all our devices. THEN branch off with your own special touches, so that we dont have 5million 2.1 roms with the same damn issues. Once the rom is fully stable, then add or take out what you want. Call it 2.1 Official stable, then have all the variations listed under it. We are all loyal to certain devs based on our own taste so it's obvious that we would jump on the branch off roms accordingly.Everybody is grabbing from the same SDK so f'n come together DAMN. As for the users stop comparing. If u like a rom use it and shut up. Dont diss a next mans effort ya dig?!!!!

I agree, but bragging rights make donations. The more they "claim" the more people are willing to donate for such a "great" developer. For example, I wouldnt be surprised if Cyan bought his Nexus from his donation fund.

I have donated to many of the developers, and you know what, I got some shocking replys.... and not just one line "I don't get many, thanks"... actual responses thanking me for actually donating and showing my support.
Cyan might very well, he has a huge following beyond xda, but most of the developers on this site struggle with donations. There is but a handful in all the forums on here that actually get a decent # of donations.
i agree with everything the OP stated....
i remember when Manila2D hit the streets for the first time and all the talented developers banded together endlessly day and night to make it available to all devices after making sure it works fully
mission: common goal, we all want the same thing, then why not work together to accomplish it?? then do whatever you want with it
Not gonna happen.
Your argument about making a working rom is flawed.
Here is why:
The source code is not available.
Drivers are incompatible, thus having the same things broken. If the devs had to all colab with eachother that would cause frustration between them because of the different tweaks to get the same thing accomplished.
IF the full source was available and it was easy as building and working out the bugs from there, that would be a different story.
35% agree.
PS:
Another thing, there is only 1 2.1 rom that I would care about and I really haven't seen any others posted to be honest. There may be other 2.x roms like 2.0.1 from the droid/milestone, and espresso/hero but those are different with different challenges, but like you said have the same general problems (GPU acceleration and camera) which won't be fixed by any magical dev-ing. NCommander might be able to do a good job with reverse engineering the camera driver, but I would bet on flaws especially when we know the driver exists and will be released so there is no use with people *****ing (working yet?, does the camera work now that the sdk is out? etc).
King is almost done with his AOSP rom....looks incredible from what i can see...check out his site and go to the forums for more details......

this ! <--- THIS !!
I sort of like sense, until the level of the android integration changes, as it's supposed to ˜32 for GB. Last I saw king was sorting it out and testing the wifi stuff.
The issue with all of android development is the "glue" which holds the pieces together. The changes in frameworks (new releases..) necessitates changes in the "glue". So whether it's changes to arguments, changes to calls, changes to tunnels / pipes, semaphores, locks, all these take work. Code does not compile and test itself, yet (lol). So a system integrator, which is what devs do, earns its (non-sexist) keep by using other peoples / coders stuff.
Vision is what all the devs have. Vision to see how the pieces should fit together. So I support his sorry ass, till this site comes to the same realization. I also support others. I fully appreciate their work and effort. How can people expect code for free? F off the devs are entitled to remuneration. Supporters fill the niche of testers, I almost wish the stuff was first given, then issued to supporters. As it is, we test, you benefit, back asswords...
So Kings AOSP rom is in his forum and he has done bunch of stuff to make it work. Decadence, Flipz, Birdman, Hill, Koush, Cyanogen, Amon_RA, Hero_over, KingX, and everybody else who "devs" should be names you remember at this start of a new genera of personal computing. Stories to tell your kids... "see that xxx on the TV, that's my software."
BTW if google is going to compete with MS, it had better start funding.
I am amazed that these people provide stuff, and people have the gall to comment on them, IT'S THE CODE, not the coder.
Amen.
Lotsa small minded folks... gotta coddle em', cajole' em, and hope that the code/Roms themselves take centerstage.. not they're drama.
The site in question requires registration for most downloads and requires donations as well for certain things (aka selling).
I am sorry, but I will have to close this thread.
RE: ▽▲ AXURA Vibrant Edition ▼△ Development Stopped.
First I'd like to say that was a punk move. Secondly, there's plenty of other great ROMs out there. I'm not sad, nor upset. I'm not going to kiss Master's ass. (I'm a software developer, I could take my own time to do this same ****) I'm also not going to flame or trash him (That'd be a waste of bandwidth and time).
The politics on these forums is ridiculous. You get something for free and then everyone *****es when things don't go their way. Devs take their personal time to provide you with something 'cool' or 'different' and you have a few select people ruining it for others. I don't 100% agree with 'Donating' to get 'early releases', but whatever. It is what it is. I'll roll with 2.0.6 AKA Axura Final until I get bored or something different catches my eye.
I'll admit, I really liked the theming done to it. I'm so sick of black and stupid ugly colors (I have a bit of a desiger background) that a lot of people call 'cool' or thinks 'looks great!'. And after searching for a ROM that didn't look like total ****, I actually considered getting involved in the theming community. We'll see.
Haters will hate.
I'm just taken away by this, I go out to eat with ole girl, come back and everything is stopped. I'm keeping 2.1 one for a while now, its destined to be a relic. But it is a damn good ROM, and skoal had to **** it up for everyone. I am sure he has recieved TONS of PMs from pissed off followers of Master, and rightfully so. However, I will not partake in anything like that.
I'm hoping this is just a phase that will blow over. Master came out of no where, it a place dominated by the "heavy hitters" and made a name for himself.

When we try to stop the leaking of leaked roms then I think it's getting out of control.
I can fully appreciate Master +all the other devs for the work but the fact is, one person gets the rom early and Master calls foul... big deal. Get over it. I wonder how many leaked roms from other devs have fallen into Master's lap.

This is the first I've been involved with any ROM outside of the G1 realm (CyanogenMod) and I don't know of any other project where you can donate to get special treatment. Honestly, that's where the problem started. Dealing with money and VIP status. Cyanogen doesn't release anything until he's ready. Mainly so he can avoid the barrage of "X doesn't work, plz/fix/k/thx!". I also don't think if a few people get ZOMG v6.0.1.2-FINAL, that he'd be too upset.
There is a sense of quality control. You don't want a lot of people to get an early release to prevent the spamming of complaints. It's distracting and takes away from your project plan. If this was a real dev shop there'd be a bug tracking list and a handful of devs hacking away at their assigned tickets.
Overall, (both parties included, or and I guess the leaker too) it's a punk move. What are we? 12? (Sometimes I think we are! after all the bickering I read)
Meh... :|
It is a shame. While I wasn't going to donate to get a pre-release copy, I was going to donate after the final version was released assuming it worked fine as a thank you for his hard work (I had a few issues with 2.05 and was waiting before flashing again).
It is his right though, even if it is confusing when considering the circumstances of how these types of ROMs got started in the first place.
This forum is so crappy now..

Let's not trash talk or name names... ok?
problem with forums like this
The problem with forums like this is they break out something like this:
10% 12-18
40% 19-26
40% 27-45
10% 46-60+ (where I fall into)
So, since age and maturity is the problem (or lack of maturity) there is no way to regulate that, not in an open forum....we are just left to self regulation........and as such, it will always be imperfect.
What is important is to be respectful and mature in the treatment (doing what they ask) of each other. The leaked rom from one friend to another is not really the core issue...........it is the public proclamation "Hey I got over on you" that demonstrates both the lack of respect and lack of maturity. This adolescent behavior (which the guilty one thinks is cute) damages our experience in this forum or in other forums. A Shame really.......
This forum gets ridiculous full of ungrateful people it really ruins development of great phones, people start to think they deserve something that was given out of good faith to help them hence original 2.2 leak

By the way donating for a early release isn't a donation, thats a payment..... Never using his rom again, imma go stock and make the rom myself, you all could to its simple....
EDIT: Hell I remember when Master was trying to over run BIONIX lol Dude was all in their business... Trying to side help their ****. Man common Master, This is a punk move, for this You will never get a second look from me... Peace man, Just needed them donations/ Payments huh
Not allowing people to distribute his ROM is a violation of the GPL. He may ask, but he has no basis to. He built a ROM based on pre-released code and Open Source code and has no valid position to stop the same. Sure, he can get pissy if people do, that is certainly his right, but the moment he makes it available to anyone that person clearly has the right to distribute it unless it has actual proprietary software on it.
The person asking was within their rights
The person who gave it out was within their rights
Master getting pissed and stopping further development for people exercising their rights is completely within his rights.
Life goes on, shame, I was waiting for 2.1, time to move on.

I've seen you in Master's thread, you've contributed nothing but disrespect and you're part of the reason he closed his thread.
FYI, Master isn't discontinuing development. He is choosing not to share with XDA. Anyone that is interested in his work can still find it on his forum.
Seems a lot of Devs are keeping their work on their own sites. From what I've seen on this site in the last few weeks, I don't blame them.
I think it's messed up for those that paid for his roms now to get no support.

First of all thanks for making this thread OP. I want to get a few things out here as well.
Very immature on the part of everyone involved. Seriously grow up and get on with it.
This donation stuff is nothing more than payment and that is right. But the payment isn't so much for the software as it is the help in putting it together and getting it all to play nice. Sure you could piece it all together yourself if you had enough free time it isn't THAT hard. Or like me if your time is more valuable you can sling homeboy <INSERT NAME HERE> $10 and have him put it together for you. I value my time greatly and I lead a very busy life so I am very happy paying someone $10 if it even saves 30 minutes of my day. I am highly skilled and do computer security work for a living so it has nothing to do with knowledge or ability.
So lets make that clear. You are donating for their time not the actual software itself. Some of these guys spend a ton of time on their ROMs and if I can get that for a piddly $10-$25 donation then I say that is a deal. And on top of that he even offers personalized support when this ROM doesn't work.
I don't think the issue here is requiring donations because if they didn't nobody would donate so that is only fair. And it is more than reasonable for them to try to get some reward for time and effort invested. Especially if they have a website to support!

I couldn't agree more.
Guys,
First of all this is not aimed at anyone in particular... it's for all to read.
It's obvious that something is going on in the Dev section concerning the Sense 6 roms ported from the M8..... I have no idea what it is and I have no wish to know.
However when these things kick off as they do from time to time it is not Developers or Contributors that are affected.... it's us, the users of the roms etc. XDA is supposed to be a community and is supposed to be about sharing so isn't it time that everybody shares their stuff... there are enough users out there for all of your work to be enjoyed and appreciated.
Please guys, let's all behave as a community and give all a chance to enjoy the many varied and good things that you Devs and Contributors give to us.
Thank you.

This is what happens when people are more worried about their Ego then anything else. Nothing we can do about it. As developers are allowed to keep their own work to themselves and not share it with others. This is the reason many refuse to use OEM based roms or prefer to take the base rom and make their own for personal use.
Ill be honest. This is the main reason I dropped Sense and am on my last OEM-non-nexus device.
Nothing can really be done about it.

Unfortunately Sense "Development" has left the "From us to you" level in many areas since quite some time and has reached a stage where all that counts is "I am out earlier with my rom", " I have more users", "My thread has more posts", "My p.... is longer". Ok, not the last, but you get the point.
So, as long as this does not change again, there is no such thing as a "Dev-community" in Sense development.
Sad as it may be, from time to time this kind of development has unavoidable consequences and the users are sometimes suffering from "collateral damage". That's the bitter truth and could only be changed by a change of attitude by some devs.
Just my 2cts.

And it will as long as people keep needing an ego boost. That is all it is. They want to say they have the best, most mods, fastest, ect rom.
And to be honest. There is nothing done to OEM roms that are really that impressive. If they wanted to HTC could come in and stop all of them in one shot.

Yes, that is the root of all evil (in this context) imho. I could not agree more.
Unfortunately this has become the state of affairs. In the end its down to the individual devs if they share their work. I do see some great things happening in the way of development, its just a shame resources cant be pulled together, then something truly fantastic may emerge, But until people stop putting their ego in front of development progress and community spirit, nothing will change.
Its all about, hey look what we did, aint it cool. Rather than, lets work together as a community and make a difference.

I honestly wish this would happen... XDA should not be about money, we all agree here that that attitude towards development is pretty much unwanted here.

I hate to say it but those days have come and gone. XDA used to be about sharing information and knowledge. Now it is a ego trip. Sad really.

Ow well, i hope you realize there ARE still devs out there that share the love buddy.
Its just few bad apples, (whats in the name huh) that spoils the whole barrel.....
I gotta chime in here with my .98 cents worth.
It's not just some stuff at xda. We're talking about innovation in all of tech being affected by a particular spirit.
Think about it. Apple has 147 billion dollars in unused capital but they won't make it happen as far as getting swipe gestures on their ios keyboard.
Android has so many attitude problems as well. You can get one device and it has certain strengths and certain flaws. Then a different device will have the things that are currently missing in your device, but it will be lacking the good things your current device already has.
Things like planned obsolescence, data caps, expensive smartphones with faulty displays, over heated batteries, on and on and on.
Whether it be Apple, msoft, or Google...none realize that they're about to kill the golden goose.
Some of us will just throw up our hands and say " to hell with you all" , and just hang on to whatever device we currently have for much longer than we'd like to. Because, just as soon as you upgrade, there's a slightly newer and better spec-bump version.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.

And it's not new, nor confined to Sense. I remember when I made skins for MobileShell on Windows Mobile there were guys who refused to share basic knowledge just to have a headstart. It was simple xml, no high-end coding, so nothing that would earn you fame and fortune. And that was in 2008 or so...
It's just an ego thing and it will always be here. So the limits have to be set from time to time obviously to keep things stright and under control.
In my opinion there is an issue with "credit" and "permission"...example, if a developer ports a ROM over from another device, well done. But does that mean the developer owns that port, to me, no, because it's still HTC files used to get that port working. Should it be required to ask for permission to use that port? NO. However, it should be required to CREDIT the person who got the port working. But asking permission makes it seem as if you own something, which you don't. This is the problem I see. Permission should not be required on XDA at all, only a requirement to credit someone. If they are expecting permission, they should take their stuff off XDA, and go elsewhere, because I know for a fact that none of the developers asked HTC if they could use M8 files to create an M7 port, and I'm sure HTC doesn't care, but for some reason these developers care way too much.

I cant really agree with this. First off, asking permission is polite, its the reaction to that request that is the issue. If the request is reasonable and for the benefit of the community, i would like to think any devoted member/dev would be willing to share the knowledge. Chances are, that dev picked up a lot of knowledge from this very forum beforehand, so not to share prevents this circle of knowledge. Credit, is just a given.
I also have to say your simplified way of "porting" is a bit disagreeable. Some of these guys put many hours of work into their ROMs, so to say all that should be dismissed due to the original code being that of HTC, is a little unfair. It sounds contradictory, so...
We have 2 issues:
1 - Free sharing of work
2 - The protection of devs who have put hours of work into a project and wish to keep it "exclusive"
Both have to be considered, imho
Its a matter of balance, one with the rules (that i think we have) and the other with attitude.
As Zel said, HTC could pull the plug at any time. Making this a non issue.
