Just wondering is it still worth it to get the Aria dispite its age?
Im going from a droid 2 I love the Aria's size. But my after seeing my friends HTC hero slugging around with Cyno kind of detracting me from a older android phone.
Any advice will be great.
Thank you.

The aria is WAAAAAY faster than the hero. The hero was my previous phone, prior to the Alltel-ATT merge, so yes i understand the painfully slow speeds of the htc hero.
Not a bad choice , certainly the compact size makes all others look like Dinosaurs...I would get one if you're going to root it..
I love mine.
I have no regrets in getting the Aria. I liked the size, and the responsiveness of the touch screen compared to my LG Incite is like night and day. It may not run flash (runs flash lite), may not have the fastest processor, or the largest screen, but the price couldn't be beat (a penny).
My roommate likes it and she wanted it. She's not eligible yet, but she'll get the Android experience soon enough. I'm supposed to be receiving an unlocked Dell Streak as a gift, and she'll be using it until it's time for her to upgrade. Unless I let her use my Aria first.
I am using china unicom.hehe.

This.
I am in the same boat.. Alltel Hero to AT&T Aria and the Aria is unbelievably faster and better.
The Aria might quite actually be the sweetspot in Android Smartphones in my opinion. It's small size is it's biggest feature.

hey,
I'm currently using lg eve and i'm really interested by htc sense UI and I was wondering is it worth buying since the processor is only 528 MHz plus is the multi touch on the hero similar to the iphone?
-someone might have asked this same question i couldn't find it-(lazy)
lol, i wouldnt have the nexus one ( 1 Ghz) if i could. I love the hero so much, its perfect haha. well, with an update coming in mid february, it will hopefully be perfect;p
id say go for it
and it has capacitive touch screen, so its basically the same sensitivity as the ipodtouch/iphone.
and in browser, 2 finger pinch to zoom, is "almost" as smooth as in the iphone...
if your deciding between iphone/hero... go with the hero, multitasking pwns
No you should get the HTC Legend which is the 2nd gen hero
You can find it here
http://pdadb.net/
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2123&c=htc_legend
Absolutely!
Paid fourhundred euros for my first one which I lost The next day I bought another one for 350.

The sense UI doesn't work for me. I don't need 7 homescreens and it slows my phone down. Pleeaase don't compare it to the iPawn. they're two completely different things. but I should tell you that multitouch is enabled by HTC it soesn't work natively in android 1.5, it only works in the browser and in albums
edit: but after the update to 2.0 it will support multitouch!
in my opinion, no its not worth the money i paid, however i have bought one, and will keep it for a while.
you'd be far better off getting a G1 and flashing it to the latest 2.1 rom.

The G1 is indeed a very nice device my father owns one, I find it a little bit too big, but the sliding keyboard is very, very nice!!
I bought mine, I have to say this phone is awesome! You won't regret it after purchasing it.
finaly decided
well, guys I'm getting the hero tomorrow and thanks for the replies, it really made a difference
I love my hero too... it the best phone i ever had!!
side question to all...
I have loveD each of my phone, when i got it.
Every time we get a new phone, it is an upgrade.
so each time.. it would be for a better phone.
so.. would we not love each new phone.. THE BEST!
lol
ditched lg eve
well, guys i finaly got my hero today and i can't stop playing with it, it's has more potential than my eve.

Nice one!!
So what do you think about Sense?
before i used to think htc sense made windows mobile more friendly, but after seeing htc sense on android it was mind blowing, its like best of both worlds
Well after my ATT Razr finally ave up the ghost last week I ended up getting an HD2 T-Mobile. My first smart phone so I have no experience to compare Winmo/Android/Iphone.
First off I LOVE the large screen and sleek form factor of this phone. It is pleasure for me just to look at it and hold in my hand. Also the sense UI is very nice and thanks to XDA I have this thing tweaked nicely with Cookie's Home Tab, tetherings, etc. It might even be better if I flach the ROM.
That said I do seem to get a lot of freezes and crashes. Also with T-mo I am on Edge a lot and never was with ATT. I have an Incredible that will be waiting for me at Verizon on Thursday but I am a bit conflicted about giving up the HD2. I'm hoping for some feedback from more experienced smart phone users on this forum. some pros and cons for me:
Incredible runs Android. I guess this is the big one. May be more stable, more apps to download, etc.s. Maybe a much better user experienced.
love the big screen on HD2 (but I guess3.7 aint shabby)
Better network with Verizon but a bit more money
HD2 is quad band world phone.
OLED screen on Incredible is supposed to suck in daylight and the HD2 may be something I can use better outdoors. I guess the battery life is better with OLED but I would rather carry a spare battery and be able to see the thing on the street.
I have until Friday (2 more days) to return my HD2 so your feedback is appreciated.
Thanks................Marc
Return the HD2, get the incredible, if you dont like it, return that and get the HD2 again!
or just play with one in the shops. we arent gonna be living with the phone, you are, and so what I may like may not be what you like
That said, I want the Incredible, cos i wanna experience android, but I like the HD2 aswell! I cant have both, and since the incredible isnt coming to the uk, i guess thats my decision made for me!
U can put an Android system to HD2..and prolly U can also put a WM to Incredible
personally Ive got an HD2, but Id love to have the incredible..but for now its only for states 4g stuff..but really..before the Incredible got out..HD2 was the best phone on the planet earth..IMO
Android to the HD2 is far off in the future if at all.

Was probabaly the Touch HD, not the HD2
I think that HD2 was not much ruined by Tmobile installing their software on it... I have seen lots of poeple complaining about HTC Andorid based devices with Verizon - Droid and Eris... I simply cannot believe HTC would want something like that on the market. Droid is 5 times worse than my old HTC Wizard (MDA)...
Don't get me wrong - android is somewhat of a good concept and good OS - but sweet lord can branding of the carrier can ruin the phone...
I am actually pretty happy with how Tmobile kept HD2 up to speed with the manufacturer unlocked device - side by side - more memory for Tmobile HD2 and only downside is "Tmobile" sign on it - everything else seems to be same - meaning Tmobile did not ruin it... Verizon or AT&T including Tmobile would ruin the phone terribly ...
Example - AT&T ruined Nokia E71 - they castrated Nokia out of 99% of all the guts and presented it in the worse possible way - just to promote iPhone... I had E71 and it is not easily replacable... Even with HD2 I had to give up some very useful things that I am researching and slowly getting on HD2...
LOVE HD2 - go for it you won't make a mistake...
Incredible is only 3.7 inch screen where the evo4 is 4.3
Both android. Evo is bang on the same as the HD2 but android.
Still waiting for detailed specs to see bands supported.

off the top of my head, evo has an updated snapdragon (i.e. the model after sorta thing but still 1ghz), better camera (8mp i think), hdmi out and 720p recording i thinkkk. so evo is a bit better than the hd2!

I don't think evo has an "updated" snapdragon. It just has the CMDA version and not the GSM. So I wouldn't expect any real differences there.
But otherwise, evo should be the updated HD2.
I think hardware vise it ends up like so:
1) EVO
2) Incredible
3) HD2
However, HD2 vs Incredible is a question of screen size. Furthermore, you still have to look at software and carrier. In the end it all comes down to the user and then it's 'to each their own.'
Incredible = Verizon = CDMA = skip!
Not that T-Mo has much of a network...
Google Exec Hints at Why Nexus One Was Leapfrogged by HTC Incredible, Evo 4G
http://googlewatch.eweek.com/content/android_vs_iphone/google_exec_hints_at_why_nexus_one_was_leapfrogged_by_htc_incredible_evo_4g.html
"Nexus One isn't a failure so much as a casualty of the success of the next wave of Android smartphones. In a few months, I'm sure we'll be saying the same things about the Incredible and the Evo 4G."
Some people may be bothered with this, but I am happy with my Nexus One. I have no buyers remorse.
I don't view my N1 as obsolete in any way at all and am quite happy with it, it's no worse than the Incredible and all aspects of the device ooze performance
phones are starting to become like computers now. as soon as you buy one a new and better one comes out tomorrow.
and what sucks about is...you're suck with a 2 year contract.
So adding two features equals "leapfrogged" now?
What a load of crap. Who has FroYo now? Yeah, that's what I thought.
I always f*cking hate these posts. I really don't want to hear doom and gloom.
Definitely don't feel any remorse.
My phone is JUST as good as the ones that are coming out NOW.
Yea, 8MP cam + dual flash, but cmon, the pictures are hardly better.
Plus the nexus LOOKS better than both of those.

SERIOUSLY, people are rediculous....... I stayed with DDR400 until DDR32000 came out because it was a serious step up...... There is nothing that screams "OH MY GOD INNOVATION" about either phone..... My next phone will be when my Nexus no longer has the NAND capacity for the current Android version. I love my Nexus
i'm with mortzz on this one. we have a phone that we can do whatever we want to do to it. i'd MUCH rather have this. i'm on the fence about the evo, but until we can get real system access (yeah, i saw the root article, but i'll believe it when i see it), custom ROM's, etc, i'll stick with the N1. which, btw, is STILL the sexiest phone i've ever seen. girl i'm seeing has the incredible, and...no thanks. not in comparison. it's a nice phone, if you have to have verizon. but, i don't
i do however have to get a sprint device. so...i may have to break contract with tmo and get the evo. otherwise, my school is going to stick me with the freaking touch pro 2 as my pager. lord what a step back that will be. but, at least if i take that, i can keep my N1
Uh. What?
Incredible and Evo won't get FroYo until the end of this year.
How about we come back to this article then so we can point and laugh?
Having root >>>> anything else.
Have any high-end phones since the Nexus achieved full root? I mean cracked bootloader and all. Desire, Legend, new Droids - none have the kind of access we do. Heck, we may have the best fully root-able hardware HTC will ever release.
I dont think the Incredible is any better than the N1, i've played witht he incredible and it feels cheap plastic like and the camera sucks as well. I like the feel of the N1 and like the looks of it. The Evo is a whole different story...

They have "root" meaning they have su permissions. AFAIK they don't have write permissions to the partitions, so it's pretty worthless.
Only thing i regret about my Nexus One is that apparently the Desire and Incredible both have touchscreens that fixed the multitouch issues.
Other than that the idea of having basically a google developement phone surpasses any of the other current phones, maybe when we see a decent hardware upgrade, then it will be a different story, but hopefully Google continues to make new Nexus phones.

That is sad. So they have the same MT issue as us, a much smaller dev front, usb-bricking issues while flashing roms, no full solution for being rooted/unlocked...took htc ages to release the kernel...they won't see froyo for ages (officially).
Not much to be ... wait for it... desired

How many points does a Galaxy register again? I'm guessing more than 2
In the UK, the N1/Desire is still the King. Desire = UK incredible, but is LITERALLY an N1, and I doubt we will ever see the Evo here [not even a whisp of 4g network].
Even if they did, all the incredible has is the less buggy touch matrix, although this has been nicely 'fixed' in froyo. The evo is a different breed of phone, id never buy it purely based on the fact that i like thinks to fit in my pocket xD
Until I see a snapgradon 1.3+, 1GB RAM, a TRUE 8mp+ cam, froyo, new gen OLED/better, my N1 can sleep with my girl any day.
that makes two of us i love man I LOVE MY NEXUS ONE

haha my friend was a tad jealous of me. he has the Hero and i like his sense ui. but the minute froyo came out, i installed it. i showed him how i can play hulu, i showed him that i got live wallpapers (of course he doesn't have 2.1) and the rest of the froyo goodness. and outta jealousy, he was like "oh well im gonna get a phone thats better than that. im give to get the Evo 4G that has everything the nexus one has and more, including Android 2.2" and i was like "riiiiight. just like the hero was supposed to (officially) get 2.1 right?" and he stood quiet lol idk about all of you guys but i don't really care for 2 led lights. im good with just one. as for 4G, i like to have the freedom to switch between my N1, my BB Curve 8310, and my iPhone 3GS with the simple swap of a SIM card so im great with my Sexy Nexy
Captivate is too expensive. Is the Aria a faster device than the Tilt2? Is Windows Mobile 6.5 in it's twilight and is it time to move to Android? I'm just concerned with the Aria's small size.
Just going to put my two cents in . I came from an iphone that presented me problems for the 7 months I had it. I tried the Tilt2 first since I originally came from an old Moto Q, and missed WinMo. My best advice is not to waste your time. Yes the screen is a little bigger, but the phone in general is big, and somewhat bulky in my opinion. I have no doubt that with a lot of tweaking it could have benn and could be a good device, I just think going with an Android device is the way to go. I was somewhat leary about the size of the Aria since I was used to the Iphone now, but let me tell you that you really don't notice it. The Aria uses its real estate to its fullest. I have very big hands, and have no problem at all. All touch screen phones will have missed taps every now and then.
So in my opinion I would definitely use my upgrade for an Aria. You won;t be disappointed.
Strongly agree. Aria will not disappoint. Tilt2 may sorely disappoint.
With android you can keep your customization and freedom to mess around with things and still retain the sleek speedy friendly GUI necessary for a wonderful phone/mobile device experience.
You will like the Aria
coming from the Tilt2 i can say it WILL sorely disappoint. Winmo is such a buggy and laggy OS. even slapping a custom ROM to won't make up for it. trust me..i went through 3 different ROMs, although great, none of them helped with the buggy issue. many of times i wanted to chuck my Tilt 2 out the window. the lastest HTC update for it caused the SMS app to be incredibly buggy and laggy.
go with the Aria..you won't be disappointed.

I agree with this sentiment. My younger brother got a Tilt2 and I installed custom ROMs on it. Although it made it slightly better, it still pretty much sucked.
Only thing you might miss out on is the hw kb. Once you install Swype you won't miss it too much though really. I came from an HTC Touch Pro.
Get the Aria!
Droid Does.
Don't waste your time with a windows mobile phone that will be outdated in a few months. That phone is a good phone but the cost of it on ATT vs t-mobile, sprint and Verizon is ridiculous. Also no 3.5 headphone jack so you will have to use that dumb but expensive to replace break out box on ATT version. Not to mention if your call log an saved texts messages get too long the phone will slow down until you clear them out. Then theres the stylus issue where you cannot dig into the menu more than 4 screens without whipping out the stylus. Again great hardware on Verizon and sprint but horrible software.

o yeah! the touchscreen is a scratch magnet and it's sensitivity...even if you hack it to it's highest in the registry..is still ****ty compared to the quick responsiveness of Aria's. and having to use a stylus for some of the windows onscreen buttons and menu options..RIDICULOUS.
trust us..you'll save yourself a headache and a half.
and just like ALL microsoft/windows products..it slugs down to a crawl after a week of use.

Yeah man the aria owns the tilt 2. I have a tilt 2 and even with all the roms I have run it just blows. heck my fuze was better, and that is saying something.
The aria out of the box is super fast, responsive and easy to use. I am not an aria fanboy, I dont think its the best phone around. I would look at the samsung captivate or the aria if I were you.
use it on the aria. using it on the tilt would be a poor choice.

Sounds pretty cool!! Is there root/custom ROM capability yet?
Anything faster than this phone -___-

Evo flashed to boost or virgin mobile if I can get the money.
Probably an lg optimus v (they need some devs...) or a htc hero if i can't get enough money.
I still think that this phone's look and feel is the one of the best. For instance, I really don't like the Samsung Galaxy S very much, even though it's really fast, because it kinda feels cheap/flimsy. Of course, it's not.
And, with the right ROMS, you can get a decent amount of speed out of it.
im going to upgrade to the HTC Amaze 4G
