How is it possible this box can compete with any boxes at all. Everything is slow, proxy not working.
Can say there is one good thing, ah maby that you dont need to use itunes.
Maby if darky can make a good rom for it. Someone needs to fix this box. Like it is now is the worst thing i ever used.

Sent from my SilverBullet "HTCDesireZ running CM7"
Yeah, normally one throws away the box (or stores it, in case they might want to return the gadget) and plays with the device. All the boxes I ever got were slow and useless, though as far as boxes go, my A43it came in a pretty nice box... minimal packaging, good sized, well organized contents...
Sorry for the pun, it was irresistible.
Ok! So let me buy something I'm probably not gonna understand, look up forums on it, make a profile, then write a weird long broken English rant on how much I hate the box it came in...
Yep, you're gonna get far in life. In case you didn't notice, on this site we all love our devices so please DO NOT TROLL.

And that plastic wrap that was on it. Just top notch. I found the opening and closing of the box very fast and streamlined.
And comparing to other boxes, it's large enough to hold decent sized items, but not so large that the box is cumbersome.
To show the holding capabilities, the box comes equipped with some sort of touchscreen.
I wasn't very interested in that though, so I just borke it and fired it in the bin.
The syrofoam though... I mean the workmanship is just fantastic. Straight lines, pointy edges. A+++
Also, what a nice touch it was that my box came packed IN A BOX! I mean, who would have thunk. A box to keep your brand new box in. Well done Archos. I tip my hat.
Well you shouldnt have bought it. I do agree outta the box this thing can be sluggish but after polishing and updating it, it can be a unique tablet. I am really satisfied with it. It can do most of it and you may need to know how to manage apps.
Hello,
I answer to this provocative title: having a galaxy S phone, I found my archos very slow at first compared to my phone. I made some settings (overdrive energy, setcpu at 1GHz all the time/performance, Zeam launcher) and now, I am very happy with my A101IT 16GB, but it's not quite as smooth/fluid as my phone...

I'm in the same boat as you. I have an htc Evo @ 1150 mhz running CM7 and it is def superior to the Archos 101. The lag isn't bad now on the 101, it was terrible when I first got it, but full format, reinstall, 1 ghz kernel @ 1ghz min and max it aint so bad. I'm sure in a few months running a honeycomb mod off a class 10 SD card and OCed to 1200 mhz this will be one nice device.

Haha, never mind, I figured out what's going on. Without root, the power mode limits the Max CPU right? Then this setting is useless after rooting and using set CPU...

Agreed, but since i have only class 4 SD, i gave up on OC.
And one thing, beware the application that run as services. It could eat your RAM and makes your Archos totally lag.

anyone care to enlighten me how the hell some people are getting 34megaflops on the EVO... am i doing something wrong... ?
They are getting it because they are testing out Android 2.2 but it's not fully functional. It'll be here eventually.
nope... people are reporting 34mflops on the unmodified sprint evo on 2.1... ill have to find the post where and who said that...

Honestly, there can be no way. My Hero was doing 2.1 - 2.4 on Fresh 2.1.1, "factory freaks" idea aside there cannot be phones that perform 10 times better than others of the same kind (using the same software). That would also be claiming a 6 times increase over the EVO when both are on stock ROMs.
I guess it just brings be ye olde saying, "don't believe everything you read on the internet kids".

Just curious, I dont understand how youre not completely happy with your evo, numbers aside. I couldnt wait for my evo, been waiting since it was a supersonic, went thru great effort to purchase it the day it came out AND be able to root it as soon as i got it home. Well, @ this point in time imo this device needs nothing other than a few apps, screen protector, and a case. and im a COMPLETE MOD FREAK.Its like the whole time i had my hero i spent it trying to make it into a phone like this........well now i have it I will root once i can reach my custom recovery from the device itself and can delete/write to running system,....I purchased a htc rubberized case(only one they had) and a scratch-proof/privacy screen protector, and man i couldnt be happier with my new EVO, kind of ironic if you actually knew how much modding i did to my hero....my point is that idc if some app said my evo got all zeros and an ipwnd got 100w/e unit of measurement, i could care less. All that matters to me is that it can do what i need to without breaking a sweat.Maybe i dont understand. What do you use your evo for? Maybe some things that i do not perhaps.....Just remember, those who search for flaws, will unfortunately, eventually find them Good luck with your EVO though, hopefully you can find the desired numbers and will than be as satisfied with yours as i am mine
could you list the apps you ran these in?..looks interesting , i would love to test mine
Magnus, please don't quote such large blocks, and use standard fonts...drives me crazy.
Anyways, better performance on Evo means better utilization of hardware, which each notch up means one step closer to helping those poor battery issues.
Not to mention, who doesn't want a speedier device!?

Aaaaaand time for everyone to stop and breathe.
Sense will be part of it (sense has provided a LOT of additional functionality behind the scenes that most people don't ever think about...and thusly is kinda on the fat side). The other part of it is potentially the same thing that's killing some of our batteries (The Calendar Wake Lock issue)...if it's running constantly, it's probably eating up some cycles too.

EDIT: Jit cant be enabled with sense ui, as of right now. I heard cyanogen said of a way, but i havent seen it working yet.
When they run linpack and get higher numbers. They arent running sense ui or htc at all.. I as of right now, i have the highest scores for gsm hero and cdma hero that have been posted to the website (we share scores on the linpack website). I had jit enabled running an AOSP rom with an OC kernel, also known has darchdroid.
The incredible might still be running sense ui. But for the hero no.

1) honestly it depends on what you do with your phone. if you use your phone as a 'phone,' then overclock does you no justice (ie messaging calls etc). If you do more than that, overclocking makes a huge difference. While the rooting process might seem lengthy to you, i'd say: do it!
2)my hinge is loose too but when i get off my arse and find a t5 torxdriver to open it up i'll put a new spring in and fix it (theres a tutorial thread on these forums regarding that)
3) i actually noticed with this phone that its grounded quite awkwardly. it doesnt respond if i place it down on certain materials and then touch it with only one finger. I have to hold the phone with one hand and touch with the other hand for completely accurate response (doesnt bother me cuz in real world situations i use both hands to hold a phone anyway)
despite its flaws, it does me a ton of justice! at least until some company releases a dualcore phone with a hardware keyboard, which i dont foresee happening anytime soon ; ;
Rooting is so simple with the G2. I did it all using the phone. Use the visionary temp root/g-free method.
I overclocked and the hinges got a hard on. Problem fixed

1. how much happier are you with your G2 now overclocked and running custom rom? what ROM?
Overclocked mine to 1.3GHz and is working great. Did get hit alittle on the battery side, but I then invested in a 1800mAh battery and it now has good stamina to last a day of full use. I have Virtuous 2.0.2 with the Advanced Kernel by RMK. Much better than having the stock ROM by far.
2. my hinge is kinda "soft" is yours?
Hinge is really a non-issue for me. Would I prefer it to be alittle stiffer? Sure, but this is how it was designed to function, alittle loose to have effortless opening and closing. Perhaps in the future I will perform the spring replacement, but it's really not a huge issue.
3. my screen does not seem that responsive compared to other phones. yours?
The only problem I have is dragging the notification bar down. There is usually a 1-3 second delay, but that is due to Sense running in the ROM I am using now. Other than that, no real issues with the screen. Definitely better than the Hero's screen!
The overclocking procedure might look long and intimidating (no 'that's what she said' quotes there!) but trust me, it's worth it. Whether it's through ADB or on the phone alone, it's really not that bad.

This is true yes. But when I first rooted my phone I didn't know the risks of using visionary, and was just using it for permanent root. Then when I was using the gfree method, I had to use permanent root though visionary to make it work for some reason. Now that I know the risks I doubt I would ever use visionary again

I do not really feel anything. It doesnt make going through screens smoother or anything overall if you handed me a stock and an overclocked g2 i would not know the difference without benching it.
I was scared to root my $200 (at the time) G2, But once i did a lot of doors opened up. I love getting rid of the bloatware and having a custom firmware is pretty nice too. I had to hold my breath the first time it booted with root enabled. as for over clocking i don't really use unless i am running emulators or games which isn't that much. I do under clock my CPU when the battery < 16% and when the screen is off seems to save a lot of battery life.

The CPU clocks down automatically when screen-off, so that's not really necessary. And hopefully your battery is always more than 6%.

It typical of the stock as well as CM. The CPU clocks up and down as needed, unless you tell it otherwise. For instance, I think the Performance governor clocks the CPU at maximum MHz all the time.

i recently started overclocking my phone and i've noticed a difference, i'm on temp root though
Temp rooted with visonary a while back. I got it just over 1400 and its very fast and the I can still squeeze out a lot of battery time thru the day. That and getting an average of over 9mbs down and 4 up at my apartment in austin tx rocks face.
Plus I think temp rooting is better so I can reboot if I need to warranty out the phone.

So I just got CM7 beta installed and the communications lady at my place of business comes to my desk and says "Oh, you have the Atrix? Do you want me to order you a lapdock for it?"
Sucks to be me, right?
I had her order the thing because we are doing a lot of cool stuff with citrix receiver and how awesome would it be if I could have an atrix running Windows via citrix reciever
But now -- I cant bring myself to remove CM7. I've thought about it many times.
I've been in recovery with my finger hovering over the button to flash back to stock GB
But I love CM7 too much. I don't want to go back to blur.
It would be like -- having an Atrix and the someone telling you you had to use this HTC Incredible 2 instead.
I think I have the solution. I am going to go back to the communications lady and request a 2nd Atrix -- for testing purposes only of course.

I like CM7, but I actually miss some of the crap that Moto put in the Atrix rom. And the webtop. Most of the time it's fairly useless, but when I need it, it's golden. And the Citrix Receiver is awesome, I have fun explaining to everyone that the phone is the laptop (just like those stupid ads).

OMFG. Do you have job openings? I can do marketing. Will work for free tech and free pizza.
I don't see what the CM7 rave is all about. I've had too many Android phones to list and I tried CM on all of them. It serves a good purpose for phones which are slow to get updated or don't have any good custom roms, but I don't see the purpose with the Atrix as I felt the same way with the Evo and Evo 3D. The loss of certain functionality isn't worth it in my opinion. I don't have a lapdock, but being able to go somewhere and plug in the HDMI and have an easy no nonsense way of playing music, videos and pictures. Motoblur is not intrusive either like Sense can be at times.
I'm just offering my opinion and not trying to start an arguement, but I truely want to know why so many people "must" use it. Am I missing something? I used it for two days until I went to watch a movie and only had HDMI mirroring with no landscape support. I must say battery life and performance was great, but it's not bad on Alien rom either though.
For informations, I really like that
Searching the web and accompanying the operation with a friend, I see that there are some outstanding issues to resolve, as the case of battery and FM radio. But, in the future, I wish to install on my Xperia X10 Mini Pro.

CM7 just seems snappier, Im guessing because there are fewer processes running. That being said, I ran Alien prior to CM7 and I have been running Alien ever since I originally posted this (i caved because I really wanted to try out the lapdock) and I agree, That rom is very fast compared to the stock GB, thanks to kennethpen's work.
Keep in mind its still beta

Completely agreed. I admit I use it for phones like the BACKFLIP and the CLIQ XT. Phones that are slow and buggy stock and need to be cleaned up or have major driver/coding issues. But the atrix? Stock 2.3.4 rooted debloated is an absolute dream: silky smooth, insanely fast, and 20 hour battery life. And lapdock STILL works.
I think it's kind of like Google Chrome or Firefox. Even though IE9 flies and does everything correctly on win 7 ultimate x64 and a quadcore with a good graphics card...people still use Chrome or Firefox. Just that whole rebellious don't let the man put you down type mentality.

i like cm7 because chainfire runs perfect,
in all the others gb roms if i install the app every time i revert to portrait from landscape screen becomes crazy full of artifacts...
and of course booting up in less than 40 sec with 120 app installed...incredible!

except IE9 is so much better when it comes to css3 and gpu aided html5. and other than that, almost the exact same resources footprint. oh, and try twitter on chrome and look at your cpu load, then do it on ie9 and compare..also..ie9 doesn't change my registry, chrome does, in many ways, and they DON'T TELL YOU IT DOES.
if it's really about speed, opera destroys chrome, firefox, and IE.
and if it's about usability, I've never seen a better browser than safari.
can't really say anything about CM7. At this point I simply don't see why I want it on my atrix. the new blur launcher is way lighter than adw.

The beauty of Android is that you don't have to use the packaged launcher if you don't like it. That goes for any ROM that packages a non stock Android launcher.
The nice thing about CM7, besides being one of the more popular ROMs, is that there are a lot of developers for it and in most cases it runs better than the stock ROM. When the vendor stops supporting the phone, the CM devs keep going.
I've used CM across 3 different phones and in all cases it was superior to stock, even on my Atrix which is still in beta. Now I do miss the fingerprint reader and having audio out work through the car dock but these will eventually get added.
(11-8-2012) UPDATE - bug fixes,TWEAKS by NOBE, still needs GAPPS, needs a 350mb system partition, use the dirty-bean method of installation. 5735 on antutu right out of the gate. GAPPS,FACEBOOK, anything else that runs at startup, will s.........l.........o.........w you down, so just kill the startup process whenever you can to help preserve your high score. Im pretty sure these tweaks will find themselves in a themed rom, but I am gonna focus on making paranoidandroid what it should be, and this I would like this one to be handed off to the guy who pimped it out, but of course I will run the builds from my environment if need be. Here is the update for you guys.

P.S.- Did you go buy someone from TeamDRH a beer yet? Did you go buy Fosser some "coffee?"
Or.... you can contribute to nobe's "wife needs her own tablet fund"
and go hit thanks on a post from any of these guys.

THis is pure CM10, built from source. It has one modification, and that is forced tablet UI. You will be in tablet mode no matter what dpi you set in build.prop.
It needs audio policy fix for hdmi audio, and probably some trimming. This is for Nobe to do his SMOOTH thing or Black Jelly thing, it is not to be considered "ready to roll" as much as it is for crack flashers or people who want a blank canvas. This is just pure CyanogenMod10 goodness.
I will answer questions and try to help but please dont expect it to be polished and shiny. It is however nice and fast and capable.
Work calls and I have to go out of town for the rest of the week, so I will not have access to my build machine, but I wanted to get this out for nobe before I left.
Please use install instructions from one of Nobe's roms, or of course you can use teamdrh's 350meg setup as well.
I will probably need a mirror if someone could because I procrastinate and havent set up an account at dev-host yet.
Enjoy.........

As usual, go find a teamdrh member and hit that thanks button, because you know we got nothing without them.
It wouldnt hurt to buy them a couple of beers either.

so the spec read out from the Gtab is that the 2D, 3D, Database IO, Sd card Write and Read are all faster than my TF201 running HB and on performance mode clocked at 1400 MHZ. I just have one question, does this little guy run choppy when switching apps? That is the reason I am avoiding JB on my Gtab for my wife. She complains that it would take forever when switching between apps. I have also noticed that when opening an app on JB it would take it forever to load. I was just wondering if you are seeing overall improvement on the system.

We run out of RAM on big games, everything else FEELS better than tf101, acer a500, in my experience. Nobe has two different roms, and I have paranoidandroid and this one. Out of the four, you are bound to find one that you like. No stock camera is the other negative though.

I saw paranoidandroid get dropped the other day, but haven't gotten around to flashing it since my wife is busy with her tablet (She doesn't like me taking it away and testing roms on it very often) but I did test both of Nobes and they felt sluggish and choppy. From basic tasks like changing screens opening the app tray checking the play store and checking Facebook... to anything else. I love Jelly bean on my phone and tablet, and I even put Jelly bean on my wife's phone and she loves it. The problem is it hasn't played well with the g-tab yet. I will keep watching though to see what results come of this in the future.
Thank you
Wow... you are a monster!
The gTablet is alive ...again!!!!!!!!!
I got really close to selling mine the other day, now I'm glad I did not. I've had it since November of 2010!
Does this require 350MB or 300MB system partition?
Thank you
Now granted guys that screenshot was done with the modified adjustments that I put in it. Once I see that Google play plays nice with it. I will shoot a upload link to the OP so he can test it and apply it to the post.

Just for the sake of argument, run this with 350 if you plan on gaming or multi tasking. Both work well I just have been testing with 350 and seam to be turi g out well.

As long as it is the Dirty Bean setup. If you are planning on adding gapps then you must have a 350m system for everything to work right.
Sent from The Darkside via Me...
with the smooth version are you going to keep the original AOSP look and feel?
Yes, 350MB on /system is a must: after flashing ROM and gapps-20121011 over 300MB, there was only about 60kb left in system partition, not enough to even update host file.
The interesting thing was, it was running really, REALLY fast and smooth! No lag whatsoever. The extra available RAM made a HUGE difference.
I'm going to try to "trim" some stuff from the ROM (like CMWallpapers.apk is 8MB, VideoEditor.apk and LiveWallpapers stuff), and gapps (Thinkfree is almost 8MB) and then flash again; we'll see if it will flash on 300MB and run stable.
The more available RAM the better!

One thing I did notice: when you insert MicroSD card, the system will unmount the internal sdcard....

Root it, debloat it, change launcher..... It will become a beast.!
I don't remember the last time I expiranced a lag..
just a little stutter here and there. after I paired it with the logitech keyboard it crashed. Is there anyway to root it without a windows pc? I have a mac, I know ODIN is usally used for root.. I REALLY want to keep it, but I really do feel like it needs to be rooted.

LOL.....
If you have the p900, use my rom.
You will need to use bootcamp and setup windows to use Odin probably. Or just use a friends computer, that part takes all of 2 minutes.
Also use nova launcher, apex, or something similar. Stock touchwiz is garbage.

It really shouldn't be doing that.
It's one of the most powerful tablets available. (especially the Snapdragon variant)
It should not lag. You don't need to root this thing to make it usable, it's fast on stock already. There's something wrong with yours.
And it certainly isn't supposed to crash after you pair it.
Do a full wipe,
Disable as much bloatware as possible,
Install Apex or Nova, (MagUX is 400MB Ram, TW 800. Too much!)
Use Greenify to kill apps you dont need to have running once in a while (things like facebook keep restarting themselves)
And dump a .nomedia file in every folder that doesn't contain media needed for the music or notifications, or wallpapers. (You can still launch films from my files.)
That should speed it up.

depends on which device you have....

I rooted it, changed to Go Launcher, and froze a bunch of crap. I also uninsulated touchwiz. runs much better. I then installed adblock, and not chrome is zooming.. Much better. I love it so much now, I went and grabbed me the Logitech case. I'm a very happy camper.

I ended up sending it back, in the 5 days I have owned it it crashed at least twice a day, random freezing, and the web performance was very jittery. it constantly had almost 700 - 800 mb of free ram, thats with me closing everything, clearing out the cache, and having greenify on. That's a lot of work for such a pricy tablet. I haven't owned a tablet since the original ipad; I went to bestbuy and spent 5 minutes with the air and immediately wished the note ran as smooth, it was like liquid lol. I broke down and picked up a 32gb. The first thing I that grabbed my attention is how much better the apps look on it, they dont look all messed up. The tablet is also REALLY nice in on the vertical axis... like a magazine. I still have my note 3, and will buy a note tablet once they make a snapdragon for less than $500 bones. Or grab a surface 3 or 4 once they get it all worked out and lower the price.

The first time I had the tablet I copied a lot of pdf files in the sdcard. This make the tablet goes very slow because the file indexer read all the pdf ( 14GB approx). I let the indexer working for 2 or 3 days but usually it crash. Finally I decided to root the device for stop the index service because I really don't need to search into those files.

If all your media stuff is in one or two folders you can put a blank ".nomedia" file in the dir to stop it. For me that wasn't an option so ya cleaning out the service was easier too
