There you go.
Where else will they be selling the WiFi only version?
I am thinking about returning my 3G Verizon Xoom for the WiFi version. The WiFi tethering of my EVO makes the contract and cancellation fees a little silly. I know that in a year I will want what is newer and faster and thinner, so signing up for the Verizon Contract is scaring me a little bit.
Is B&H the only online order location? I guess I also saw Staples might have them in stores on the 27th?

Just got email JR.com will have it for pre order as well.

Are you absolutely certain of this? I have not seen detailed specifications showing the lack of a gps on the tablet, and actually according to this motorola developer site, it does. EDIT: Due to the anti-spam restrictions, I am unable to post the link. However, search the motorola dev site for the MZ604 and you should be able to see the specs that I am referring to.

Hmm, well are you really going to use a wifi only model outside of your home or work? Or for navigation? Your phone should already have that capability, with 3G data and wifi
BH also shows the wifi version as having 512mb of ram. The moto sight says it has 1gig of ram and gps..
Use it the same way as 3g version.

I have a xoom 3G and the GPS works GREAT! 200x better then my $400.00 GPS system in my auto. I understood the WY FY version of the xoom was to be the same as the 3G unit, If it isnt, I wouldnt buy the WY FY xoom. I dont see why the WYFY xoom would have less memory then the 3G xoom eather. I dont use the 3G on my tablet it is unlocked. Its nice however to have the 3G/4G xoom model as you can (if you choose) pay a month to month data plan (without contract) vacationing or travel, then cut it off again when you get back home.

Okay, we DEFINITELY know that ATT (as expected), buzzkilled the SH*T out of the accessories for the Atrix. But, let's see possibilites of the future.
First off, I believe the phone can still be $149 if bought from CostCo/Bestbuy with the 2 year contract (hence, the proof of pictures and Amazon), and $199 through ATT. The accessory docks though... yeah, blew us out of the water.
Although, it's a tad bit early to say the least, to give up on these accessories (as for most people, the REAL deal killer is ATT's idiotic mindset that it is considered tethering your phone to an object that works only as good as my flashlight (laptop dock)). We have lots of brilliant minds waiting to get their hands on the dock (hopefully, if the pricing still wasn't enough to kill it), and there may be possible solutions for not having to get the tethering add-on price to it.
We all know many of us here already tether with our grandfather unlimited smartphone plan, what's the loss in trying it out with webtop.
Prerequisities:
We would have to find ways to buy the laptop dock not through ATT so they don't force change our precious current plans
Ideal:
We can use the laptop dock (regardless of price paid for the accessory) and we wouldn't have to be paying for the tethering add-on.
Possible Problems:
ATT and Motorola have figured out a way to "lock" laptop dock usage without the tethering plan. I've not the slightest clue as to how they will do it, but it's very possible.
Possible Solution:
Some devs find a way to bypass those requirements and we'd be able to use the dock scott-free. After that, we can treat it as how we treat how we tether our laptops.
So, we can look up to this, buy the Atrix for 149 or 199 JUST for now, and hope that in a couple of months there will be a solution to this madness. Hell, ATT may put it on sale because of low sell rate, or just competitive pricing, and by then some devs have figured out some ROMs that let us use the webtop app.
NOT ALL IS LOST YET GUYS..... WE DON'T NEED ATT!
Mark my words, bootloader will be locked far worse than on DroidX. They will encrypt the **** out of it.
This is the last straw, I'm spending my last days with AT&T and switching to VZW with MUCH better network, LTE, Xoom and Bionic.
I mean, it's still a bad ass phone by itself. I didn't plan on getting the docks either way, so I'll take my Atrix along with my unlimited data and have one of the best phones out there spec wise

It's still a really good phone. Basically a bionic with 1gb ram and finger scanner.
What happened to the 1gb ram thing is it actually 1 gb ram.
If not can some developers hack it so all the 1gb is used for android?

yep I agree, IF the dock is not around $150 it's too much BUT I would forget about it and just look at the phone by itself. If alone the phone is not enough then I say move on, meaning, wait for a better phone to hit in a month or so. To me the phone alone seems like a great phone...as long as it itself is not too expensive... Time will tell I guess for all of us.
It is easier to be positive in my neck of the woods though cause I don't think Bell will block sideloading and tethering etc..

They didn't block sideloading for Samsung's Galaxy S. Can't see why they'd do it for the Atrix. And waiting for a better phone in Canada may take way more than a month The only other "big phone" announced is Telus' Desire HD! That's so 2010...
The reason the laptop dock will require tethering is because it uses a full desktop Firefox browser, hence you will be loading full desktop websites. If you were to use your standard dataplan, loading full desktop websites will immediately eat into your data usage.

Yep, that's ATT counterproducing itself. It's stupidity at it's finest.
I can picture how ATT thought about the pricing:
"Oh hey, the internet is mostly excited about the laptop dock and we are getting such a huge fanbase on our Atrix... Let's jack up the price of the laptop dock and add the so-called tethering on it... that'll DEFINITELY kill their joy."

I agree. I think the reasoning for the tethering requirement is quite simple: economics.
Look at it this way: If Motorola prices the dock at $500, and AT&T subsidizes the price down to $300 (if bought as a package), where will the $200 come from? Obviously it isn't in their interest to give away something for nothing, and AT&T obviously subsidizes devices in exchange for a contract. So I'm sure AT&T is figuring that the $200 discount should be made up for by paying for tethering.
The fact that Moto thinks the dock is worth $500 is still idiotic, however. The real dealbreaker of the tethering plan is the loss of unlimited data that's required for those of us that have it.
I would bet that the laptop dock drops in price pretty rapidly, especially since AT&T/Motorola are going to sell about four of them at that price.
This according to a story from ByteNow.
First off, Staples will be selling the XOOM. Interesting.
The article says that in an "internal sales training memo" to Staples employees, the much desired WiFi only flavor of Honeycomb goodness will hit the market at the end of March or early April. This goes along with what another member posted here on XDA earlier who heard from a contact at Costco that the WiFi XOOM will launch 30 days after the 3G version goes on sale. (A theory from that same thread is that they are delaying it until the 30 day Verizon and 14 day BBY return period is over. If you buy at Costco, you have 90 days to return.)
This means that other retailers are also getting "internal memos" with details Motorola has failed to deliver. So if you're an employee and have access to one, let's get some confirmation. Find a memo and sneak a pic of that puppy!
Exciting days are ahead!
I don't think Verizon offers 30 days on tablets... pretty sure its just 14
You're right. I forgot they changed their policy and shortened the return window.
I wonder why they're waiting so long to release it, then. They need to get the dang thing out so we can all go buy one already!

They want to get as many early adopters to shell out $800 as they can before they release the wifi only model. Also, I dont know how long they can wait and still introduce the wifi model at $600, because the 3g model will be on sale by mid April. Motorola is going to have to compete with a stampede of tablets being released around that time.
Yeah. It will be interesting to see how things play out. iPad 2 is supposed to be revealed March 2. If they follow last year's trend and price the comparable 32GB + WiFi Only Pad at $649, the XOOM will have already won at $600, but Toshiba might hit the mark at $500 with their version (Since they are also a hardware manufacturer, they have the luxury of selling a little cheaper). I was actually thinking about getting a Toshiba Honeycomb tab (the Antares?) until I found out the XOOM had an unlocked bootloader. That + all the features + vanilla Android = win.
I had planned on having a friend get me an employee discount at BBY, but I found out this Sunday that he doesn't work there anymore. I'll bet he still has friends there, though.
This would be awesome. I'm trying to hold off on buying one until after my exam block is over next week. I have no need for 3G, so waiting another 3-4 weeks after that wouldn't kill me if it lets me save $200!

ad-hoc tethering probably won't work. Do you not have a device capable of a proper infrastructure connection?
I have a rooted OG Droid. The wireless tether app for root users does ad-hoc. I even have issues getting my PC to connect to it sometimes. I've found that Barnacle Tether for root users works better, but it's also ad-hoc, I believe.
the wifi tether app, if i remember correctly, got an update to support infrastructure. I cant verify any phone besides the one in their description which says the Evo is supported.
Guess I have been in the dark
I thought I was going to buy a WI-FI only model in the morning... smh
Nope. Those greedy bastards are making us wait.
So, I can't tether with my OG Droid? I wonder if there will be a patch available for the XOOM that will allow it. I don't mind carrying around a Mini USB cable for wired tethering since just about everywhere I go has WiFi. Would be nice just to turn on the WiFi tether app and keep my Droid in my pocket, though.
If I have to wait 30 more days I might as well get the LG Slate.. Same specs + 3d.. Better screen
Moto, you got screwed by Verizon on this release. I would have bought the WiFi only in a heart beat, but waiting till April? Yeah, good move. Wait till iPad 2 is announced next Monday and the world forgets about your Xoom...genius, just genius!
Verizone, good going, make sure to promote whoever negotiated that deal with Moto!
i got it confirmed by a product manager from Costco that the Xoom wifi is coming in March.

I'm not sure but some things to consider.
1. 4G LTE requires a SIM card and from what I've seen (in unboxing videos) there doesnt seem to be one from factory. Maybe it's mailed out to you.
2. The LTE upgrade is supposed to be of the OTA variety. Don't know if that's controlled by Moto or Verizon.
sim car is most likely used for connecting to the network ... euroland uses simcards like that. think LTE hardware(radio) is already inside. not sure tough

That's a good question. The upgrade to 4G LTE is supposed to be free. It will require you to either bring your device in to Verizon or you will have to have it shipped to have it upgraded.
If you do have to have it shipped, that will be a downer because you will end with some down time, at least 3 days.
I assume that you will need to be data plan subscriber in order to get the upgrade.

You will have to send your xoom to moto to get your 4g as the xoom only comes with a 3g radio. If you look at the specifications it only comes with EV-DO radio.

I don't know if I'd call that confirmation. Seems very vague. That info was from CES Jan. 5th and those devices weren't even working models...a lot has changed since then.
My guess is that all they'll need is an LTE sim card which can loosely translate to "coming into a Verizon store for a hardware upgrade."
the upgrade requires sending the device in
it takes 6 business days
and will be available within 90 days
after that will have 6 months to do the upgrade or lose the "free upgrade"

Do you plan on sending it in for the free 4G upgrade? I think I will, only because in 2 years when its time for an upgrade and Im trying to sell it, it'll probably fetch a higher price.
Yes, I sniped the deal and as of now I have no intentions of using cellular data. Most likely I will send it in to get the 4G modem.
1) Because I may decide I may want it someday.
2) Apparently, there's only a 90 day window after they offer the upgrade to do it. I'd like to get it done in case I decide to sell it.
The upgrade should start in roughly 90 days, but the window is six month from that date.
Has anyone seen exactly where all our Xooms will be need to be shipped for this upgrade? I'm assuming that the address is in the states (or else Motorola is even crazier than we thought), but I was just wondering if anyone had seen which city/state they would all be going to.

No. I will not be shipping it back for the 4G upgrade.
As far as I'm concerned, it'll be the $600 WiFi only XOOM that I wanted Moto to release on launch day. I raised my voice on multiple forums on behalf of the large majority who want a WiFi version, giving solid, valid reasons why Moto needed to release the WiFi version at launch or shortly after. I even got responses from a Moto employee on Engadget and from Matt at the official forum, who both said our concerns were 'being heard' by their superiors. Yet we still only have rumors to go on, and the only official news we have about a WiFi version is that Europe will be getting it in Q2. Since Motorola is failing to give us any info (despite at least 15 messages a day on their twitter asking them directly about it), we can only assume this means that Motorola doesn't plan on releasing the WiFi version here until Europe has it. Fail!
So, do I feel bad about getting a $200 discount? No. For one thing, I thought it was legit until I saw the update on Droid-Life. For another thing, they should have released the WiFi version and they probably wouldn't have had people looking for exploits to save money on their $150 markup (probably more since each 3G radio is under $50 for them).
Sorry for the rant.
*Steps off of soap box*

I'm planning to send my back for the 4G modem.

Sorry, dude. I know how you feel. It seems like I ALWAYS miss stuff like this, but it's nice to get lucky for once. It's actually the first time I've ever snagged a deal like this (and I've seen lots of online deals caused by mistakes and BARELY missed them. It's frustrating.) My brother caught a 'mistake' deal from Best Buy a few years ago, and all of his friends were pissed, too. lol
I don't use 3G but I'll be doing the update because I plan on selling my Xoom next year when we start seeing quad core tablets.
This might be a silly question, but with the Xoom slowing aging through the system, many of the wifi/3g models are coming off of contract and becoming available on the resale/refurb market.
So the question is whether these wifi/3g models are decent deals and perfectly suited for people who are looking for wifi only (like myself) and if they will work normally at hotspots and other wifi enabled locations without the need of a cellular contract on them?
thanks
Robyn
Well I just ordered a used 3g xoom from Amazon for $400. It comes with everything that was included in the box with two extras. The extras being the portfolio case and the dock which make the find even sweeter for me. Yes a 3g or 4G xoom can work on wifi without a contract without a problem.
I missed the Woot deal for the wifi-only, but I ended up finding this one with a little searching.
Yes I did previously owned a wifi only xoom but returned it because I knew I could get a better deal online. $420 for a wifi-only xoom at walmart on clearance wasn't a good deal to me. I would say you can find a used xoom in good condition in the following price ranges:
Used Wifi-only= around $300
Used 3g or 4G = around $400
New wifi only from Woot = $320
Tips:
1. read the descriptions and details to see if the seller includes extras such as cases, docks, additional charger and etc. The extra $10-20 may be worth it.
2. If ordering a 3g or 4G xoom you may want to check the imei or whatever it is labeled number of the device with verizon to ensure that the device is not stolen. (I didn't do this because the seller had good ratings. This may be more worth it for craigslist or ebay purchases from small sellers with little or no rating)
3. Check the forums, amazon (in the used tab), ebay, craigslist and etc. Shop around. I missed the $320 Woot deal for a new/refurb wifi-only but found what I believe to be a better deal which was $398 for a 3g used/like new xoom with case and dock included along with the original accessories. $80 more is worth the 3g, case and dock to me (I will be tethering my phone for most of the time) . It may have some warranty left but I usually void them so that does matter to me (custom roms + overclocking = win) .
I hope you find this information useful and good luck!
Oh last thing. I heard if you had an 4G LTE phone from verizon, you can put the sim from your phone in your xoom and use it for data. The I am unsure if this is true but will let you know with I get mine. I have a HTC Thunderbolt.
Thanks for the rundown.
That was the thought process I have been running through
