Moar mFlops plz - EVO 4G General

So I was running Salvage and now I'm running cm7 nightly 18 and I'm wondering: what's up with my benchmarking being so low? Can't seem to break 41 on Linpack and my quadrant scores are sticking in the low-1000s (they were up around 1300 on a fresh install).
I've seen other people who have had this complaint, and I know benchmarks aren't that important since my phone is running really well, but I want to see some seriously awesome results and I'm wondering if it has something to do with my kernel (savaged-zen), too many widgets on my hoam screen, playing too much ninjump, etc.

Highest I broke was about 45 running a toast/net kernel on a sense rom with about 1600 on quads. I break about 41 on cm7 with savagezen. Its really hard to takes scores on the evo serious though they don't mean ish. I also had to delete linpack and quadrant from my phone cause I kept worrying/stressing about scores etc lol. Now I don't download them at all and my life has been great ever since.

Yeah I'm thinking it might start coming to that. I just don't want to be sacrificing performance thanks to having things set up wrong. I'm coming from a Hero where your paltry 4.5 mflops were a true sign that you had your phone organized correctly, and it was going to randomly restart in 8 minutes because you had JIT running.

+1 I came from the hero also with 4.5 running darchdroid/cm6 lol. It wasn't going to get any better than 4.5 ahh I remember those days man. With the evo I don't recommend taking stock in scores because its just not gonna get any better. My chicks g2 out the box stock(800mhz) is 1550 on quads and like 60 on linpack lol of course w/ help of their newer processors. Our evos are kind of maxed out I guess you could say. Jit doesn't help much its only keeping our apps warm and ready not really effecting scores much. I'd say what were getting now is about the best man. I still love my evo and hopefully it will last until my upgrade this September when newer phones are out.

Man I was planning on upgrading in May but I got bit by the Sprint Premium downgrade, and all the sudden my upgrade turned into "use it or lose it" by April 1. I'd much rather be stuck with the EVO for 2 years than the Hero for another year. That poor little phone just doesn't cut it anymore. Right now I'm trying to figure out how I can get a full upgrade next year, or perhaps just get a new phone for Christmas, which is about the time I'll be sick of the EVO.
Still, for now I'm loving this thing. It's like going from an '88 Accord to a 2010 Cadillac.

Whats the fastest custom rom?

yeah whats everyones fastest most stable combination?mine so far would be nfinitefx45 deoxed stock rom with a 768 overclocked kernal.and the new CyanogenMod-6 rc is pretty fast!with the uncapped kernal
Cyanogen 6 with dec s uncapped kernel clocked to 768. Using battery tweak, juice defender, jit enabled, surface dithering disabled, home locked in memory. I get about 420 on quadrant and around 5.2 mflops

i recently installed cyanogen 6 with the google addon.
What is the " with dec s uncapped kernel clocked to 768. Using battery tweak, juice defender, jit enabled, surface dithering disabled, home locked in memory" you are refering to?
I currently use set cpu to overclock to 691. I currently am only getting just under 3 mflops and just under 400 on quadrant.

Decad3nce has an uncapped Kernel - the stock cm6 one is capped so users with older chips (without the "With Google" branding) can boot.
Battery Tweak by Dec and Collin_Ph improves battery life by installing a small user defined service (I can't remember what exactly it does)
Juice defender is an app in the market that controls battery use of apps.
JIT - "Just In Time" compiling - very techy stuff here but more or less gives you more MFLOPS - but our Heros dont have enough ram for it to truely be effective.
Surface Dithering is a CM6 option that makes the screen look better. Google the term and see what it does for photos and stuff.
Home Locked in memory keeps the OS from flushing it from cache and causing a few issues, like hitting the home button and all the screens being blank for a second while it populates them.
So the above statement is just his lits of configs that make the device run best for him. But remember MFLOPs and Quadrants aren't everything Alot of it is feel.
Wow that was nice and detailed explanation. I'd up vote it if I could.
I haven't used the uncalled kernal. I have with google branding. I think I'll try it anyway.
Cm6 fresh install seems faster than any other rom I've ever tried. I turn off eye candy and it flies

I gave up using Fresh ROM because it was getting laggy and we haven't had an update since August, so I finally made the switch to Cyanogen's RC1. Overclocked to 768 mhz, I've been getting 438 consistently on Quadrant. Linpack has been giving me varying results around 3 MFLOPS. The best I've gotten was 3.25.
I'm really curious as to how other Heroes do!

Do I have a quadrant lemon?

My wife got a shift on release day and i played with it all the time before I got mine yesterday. I was getting 1650 in quadrant on her shift 100% stock no temp or perm root nothing removed ... so yesterday I get my shift, root it right outta the box and kill apps and run quadrant and my highest score is 1340 did rooting it slow it down or did I get a lemon? I havend RUU'd but I factory reset a few times with the same result... on a weird note I know that some peoples phones weren't able to handle the full 1.5 OC but mine does fine and pulls 2275 in quadrant with miui...weird huh?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
I had the same drop from about 1600 to 1300 after rooting it. I always knew when I ran visionary the performance was crap. Didn't really notice any slowness, just saw the numbers from quadrant.
I will check the wifes shift when she gets home (hers is rooted now too) and see if she has the same thing.

z4root doesn't seem to be much better. I'm temprooted with z4root and just got 1328. Prerooting I /think/ it was in the 1500 range.
Weird. I've also got a drop vs unrooted stock. With current Quadrent (1.7.1) I get in the 1300's. With previous version (1.5.1) I get 1400's. Out of the box I had 1500 - 1600.
^ Shift Faced
sigh..people still use quadrant? if you don't use pro version you can't tell what exactly is dropping or where the difference is..not to mention its flawed..
Try Smartbench 2010 and/or GLBenchmark
Can we just autodelete any posts that start with "sigh"? They never contribute to the conversation.

I still get in the 1500-1600s perm rooted, usually capping out around 1645. Only thing I didn't do was install the recovery or flash any ROMs. Just froze the apps I didn't want to see in titanium. I also deleted Visionary but that's it. Everything else was the same as before I rooted. I never used my phone in temp root mode though. I went from stock to perm root without doing any performance tests.
I'm running miui oc 1.5g and my first couple tries were in the 2200s, downloaded the new version that just came out, played with it again this morning and I've been getting around 1900, I think the new version that came out may be causing it, version 1.1.7
whoever has an older version, can they pull the apk and let those who are getting 'lower scores' try it and see if the results are the same or not

What are you talking about? I contributed in saying that you can't base your assumptions on 1 benchmark..mostly a flawed one..in his case he lost "Quadrant Score" but Quadrant Score is vague as there is CPU, IO, 2D, 3D, Memory..
so there is n way to isolate the issue..unless you either use Quadrant Pro or another benchmark...because it can also be another Flaw in Quadrant too..if not you can figure out what exactly is being effected...
But you are right, we should autodelete posts that don't contribute to the discussion..like this guy:

Cpu is down a little. But I/O and 2D are down quite a bit from when I was running the stock rom, both around half. I'm kind of curious why that is. I'm wondering if its because now I'm on the Deodexed rom and not stock maybe? On a side note I was able to get 2517 on the 1.5ghz OC kernel and Desire ROM though.

Why am i not surprised that nucentury, who seems to have NO interest in getting the Atrix since it doesn't have a Gyroscope which will apparently be such an improvement for gaming that Crysis might actually run on a phone if it had one, is bragging about random crap again. Or maybe he's not bragging, seeing as my Archos 70 Internet Tablet with a 250GB hard drive running Froyo already got a score of 1,778 in Quadrant running at 1Ghz. Or maybe it's the idea that benchmarks are completely meaningless for the most part.
And if you have to overclock your device and still can't reach the scores of the Atrix.... which as far as i'm aware i don't believe Quadrant has support for multi-core chips yet.... then i don't see what you're bragging about, really.

Yes, it does. With my old Captivate, when I went to add a shortcut to my homescreen, when I hit the applications button it would take like 10 seconds to load up the next screen with my apps list. And I had mine overclocked to 1.28ghz and all that jazz. This one opens it straight away. No waiting for anything to load.
What are the neocore benchmarks at? That's a pretty cool program to test the phones gaming ability. I'm not getting an atrix because I like my iPhone but I used to use android phones. Just curious about the phones performance.

The Streak is 800x480, as are most high-end large sceen Android phones, and the Atrix is pushing 35% more pixels @ 960x540, and STILL getting higher scores...
Plus, add in what others have mentioned that Quadrant is not multi-core capable, and you start to realize how much power is under the hood of this thing!

Atrix quadrant scores

Hello everyone. What's a good quadrant score for a stock 860? I have been seeing 2600-2650 on average, is this fairly common for this model? Is there a good way to prepare to take the test by closing apps, features etc?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Ive been averaging consistent 2500 of four attempts in quadrant after the 4.1.57 update. I normally run it just after start up and I get those scores.
I achieved 2740 with 4.1.57
I've gotten around 2900 once, but it usually falls between 2650 and 2800. To be fair though Quadrant only tests a single core, if you compare it vs say an inspire on stock rom (Or probably even a custom) at stock clocks it will only get about 1900-2100. So really the Atrix gets 20%-30% better scores and it's only using 1 of 2 cores. Another thing you'd notice on the Atrix is it has nearly no slowdowns, even an Inspire running at a 1.8 OC (battery life is horrible) will bog when you install/update programs while doing something else because it's still a single core and needs to share cycles across programs where the Atrix can devote a core to all background activities and the other to what you're doing in the foreground. I didn't really notice how fast the Atrix was until I had to fix something on my girlfriends Captivate (Gave her mine when I upgraded) and she has like 25 apps and a custom rom with a 1.4 OC and OMG it felt so slow compared to my Atrix.
I got a 2774 with the gingerblur ROM. That's the best I've ever gotten and I've run it on stock, 1.52, the new update and gingerblur. Gingerblur has gotten me, by far the highest and most consistent scores of all. I usually run between 2600-2750 under normal usage, which is quite a bit.

1-what kernel were you using when this 'bog' down happened at 1.8 ghz when something was updating. cause my inspire at 1.8 ghz while downloading a file through web, and updating apps in the market will still be faster than the atrix. ive NEVER even had so much as a hiccup at 1.8 ghz on my kernel, and i just did exactly that, downloaded a file, while 4 apps were updating in the market, and at the same time opened app to qr, and the apps loaded instantly. the atrix takes a few seconds for it to load up, with nothing at all going on, with all bloat removed and only the factory default apps on it. the inspire has over 100. also, i posted this elsewhere also, testing my kernel yesterday running at 1804 mhz all day long, i got over 16 hours off a charge with 3.5 hours screen on time. screen brightness was at 100%. if it was at 50 it could have went much longer. not horrible if you ask me. the inspire with a single core doesnt lag when a live wallpaper is put on it, and i can actually type on the keyboard without having to correct errors every other word cause its lags so bad.
just another note, my inspire rom and kernel at default 1ghz (no overclock) hit 2700+ quadrant
I just got 4000 on CM7
4900 with cm7 + overclock to 1.3ghz ;P
the motoblur software and at&t crap really slows stuff down.

Quadrant score

What rom has the highest quad score for the vibrant?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Depends on many factors, not just the rom. There's also the Kernel, OCing, UVing and even the launcher.
Highest I have had without an overclock was 2456, and that was on Simply Galaxy v3 RC3 (Port from i9000) with all the tweaks engaged. It was very very fast. Faster than any other ROM I have used, even with overclock. Hell, if I could OC with that ROM I would bet that I could break 3000+ quads easy. But quads are worthless. You just have to try using the phone with the speed of that ROM. I didn't know the vibrant could be that fast.
Running Trigger right now. Get anywhere from 1400-1600. Runs ok. Was just wondering what some of the other Rome were capable of. How is the Simply Galaxy rom? I personally don't know anyone who has used it.

5000 with a V8 hemi under the hood!
With the battery in, I get around 16K but I only get 8K if I take the battery out.
I'm using the FBS ROM.
Speaking of Quadrant...It sucks

I second this.
So useless of an app, it has nothing to do with the actually smoothness and snapyness in any phone. Sometimes I feel it's scores are the other way around, the lowest you get the better your phone is
I'm a total lurker, but after "bricking" my vibrant about 3 weeks after getting it home last Fall and discovering the fix here, I've been tweaking, wiping, flashing, odining, and having a helluva lot of fun with it. I'll probably betray myself as still being a noob, but I see everyone kind of poo-pooing Quadrant as meaningless (and other benchmarks, it seems). Is there any objective measurement that you guys consider worthwhile?
I thought I was all hot **** for breaking the 2K mark, but I guess none of that matters?
Trigger 3.2 with Bullet 1.42...just added bullet, so currently OC'd to 1.2 while I get a feel for what the phone can handle.

On Biwinning with o.c. I am getting 2580 ....... but it does not perform ant better than leaving the clock @ 1000 so I leave unclocked ......... I get great battery life then...........
Quadrant is amusing...
but it's not always telling of how a rom actually performs. Back in the day when we were using the OCLF, quad scrores were in the 2k range and that was with 2.1
That being said, I felt compelled to post this anyway, mainly just to show the cpu score improvement that we get with gingerbread. My phone was running Cyanogenmod7 at stock speeds. Comparing quadrant scores between roms that are all based off of each other is pointless.
The 1815 score is from CM7
The 1755 score is from MIUI
MIUI performs great, but it's not as buttery smooth as CM7. But from the two scores you wouldn't see that. More importantly I think this also lends to what I said about comparing two scores between roms that are based off of each other.
