Any one ever run the slide at 400mhz? - myTouch 3G Slide General

I am a hobo and trying to save as much battery as I can would running my slide at 400mhz make it too slow?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App

I have my setcpu profile to drop to 400mhz when it gets to 30% battery and I find it SO slow if I'm trying do anything I normally do - however, it works just fine to check email, lookup simple stuff on the web and make phone calls.

Got it set to 480 right now and its slower but its seems to be going good sofar got 37 hours on my battery on build 14

I've got mine at 864 and my battery lasts 20 hours on average, and that's being on it all day.

Any side effects of over clocking to 1.4 ghz

Guys I was just wondering if there is any side effects of running g2 at those speeds for extended period of time?

There are...
By increasing the voltage/speed you reduce the life of the CPU itself. However, these chips aren't designed to last 3 years and then die. They are designed to last 20 years and so OC'ing take the life to something akin to 12 years. Nothing to worry about.
If your software doesn't hang and the phone doesn't freeze/overheat then no worries.
I've had mine overclocked for a few days now with SetCPU to control the speed, and I've noticed that the phone is significantly faster and that the battery lasts longer on idle. Mine is running at 1305 (seemed to be the sweet spot without fiddling with voltage, might play with that another time) and I haven't had any issues at all. Unless you consider a free speed boost to be an issue, anyway.

Side effects?!
You will become very picky with phones.. trust me, once you get used the the fast overclocked G2, you don't want to use any other slow pines.
I know for certain that you could reduce the lifespan of your CPU, but that's if you're not being smart with it. Along with SetCPU, I was able to increase my battery life by having it idle very low when it's sleeping. I was able to keep my phone at 100% charge, unplugged, for five hours straight before it dipped down to 99%. Then it slowly started picking up.
I'd say that so long as you're smart with overclockiing, you'll be okay.

Better battery life!

Hey guys & gals just wanted 2 share something with u. I recently decided 2 uninstall cetcpu from my phone & decided 2 go with cpu tuner instead. In doing so i've noticed my battery life improve significantly with some profile tweaking of course. If you've run the virtuous htc sence rom with the pershoot o.c kernal u know how disgusting the battery life can b.It literally sucks the juice out of your battery like "Debbie" from Debbie does Dallas sucks the juice out of...well u know. Anyway,i also noticed how little juice the system resources now use up. I included a screenshot of the battery status screen.Hope this helps anyone with battery issues especially if your running the rom & kernal mentioned above, it worked 4 maybe it can work 4 u. P.S I have the screen set to 20% brightness, gps, wifi, blutooth, autosync all disabled.Only reason i mention this is because even with all these things disabled along with a few other,b4 installing cpu tuner my battery would still drain like crazy. Thx.
That's some horrible grammar.

Anyway, Your saying the cpu tuner helps the battery life? I'll give this a go but I don't use any of the sense roms. I'm all for better battery life although I do get 15h on pershoots kernel running cm 6.1 stable.

i have almost the exact same info on mine with setcpu oc to 1ghz on CM6.1 and i get atleast a full day of use with frequent music and texts. alot better then any other android phone.
I don't know how you guys are having such bad battery life. Currently at the moment I am at 22h 11m 51s since unplugged with 57% left. This is all with CM6.1 RC4 w/ wifi + wifi calling on all the time when I am home, autosync on for everything, auto brightness, and some use of gps. I listen to music on my phone for atleast 3+ hours walking to and from class + texting, browsing, facebook, twitter, fantasy league during class and the occasional call, pretty good usage. with setcpu on oc to 1ghz with some profiles set up.
what if im not running sense?
If it works with sense I would think it'd work with most everything else.

Is the phone not quick enough at 1Ghz? I keep mines on stock speeds, have setcpu installed but don't use, and have CyanogensMod on it. I get the whole days worth plus more of battery. I can't even kill it when I want to recalibrate it.
A whole day for me is about 16-20 hours for me without charging. This is MADNESS!

Not that the phone is not fast enough. It's placebo effect where people "feel" that it needs to be faster when they overclock it at crazy speed. The G2 has already proved itself a speed monster, none of the android phones out there can top it right now. As for the battery life, I honestly don't notice any considerable improvement.

EVO battery life owns my Epic

Seriously, my GF and I just got new phones and her EVO rocks my Epic. I don't get it, thought the EVO sucked juice compared to the Epic?
We both have juice defender, otherwise hers is stock with standard sense widgets. She checks facebook and texts all day, plays words with friends but that's it. I'm obsessing, rooted with setcpu conservative 100/1000, I have force uninstalled mediahub+drm services, do the airplane trick on reboot, brightness on auto, services off except wifi when browsing, etc.
My phone lasts maybe 12 hours, hers has gone 27 hours, lasts 18+ easy every day. I feel like if I even touch my phone I lose 10%. Snes games? Phone is done. I basically let it sit and it slowly dies, yet still ends up 90%+ display usage on the battery.
Sigh :-(

I only got 8hours Until I got me, an extended battery Now I have mine on full bright and 4g,wifi,bluetooth,gps on full time. And 4 apps that update every 10 minutes 3 to 4 hours talk time and about 100+ text, get on the internet etc and the battery last about 12 hours
The biggest battery drainage from my phone came from 3g I live in area where 3g fluctuates allot which caused the battery drain
Have you ever thought of getting an extended battery?
Or you dont like the extra bulkiness
Otherwise can't you take it back and switch out for an evo?
I like my Epic like my women, slim and naked ;-)
I'm all stock, odined back to 2.1 before updating. I would suspect 3g due to my near-roaming status at home except for juice defender.
I can't calibrate my battery without clockwork (stock recovery now), think that would make a significant difference?

That is a key (perhaps not the only) problem. Set your brightness to as low as you can stand it (8% is my number). Use as much black & red as possible (if an app has a night mode, use it.) Use an all black wallpaper. These actions will not cause any miracles but it will make a noticeable difference in battery life.
Worst case scenario (all white background at full brightness), the Epic screen consumes more than three times (yes, >3x) as much power as the EVO. Of course it looks marvelous doing it.
Hrm, thx mosttoys, ill try it. Though honestly most of the time it looks like it's around 0% anyways (which is honestly where I like it).

Light use, words with friends, texting, browsing (she is unemployed and I work from home so I can vouch that she has been on and off it), 59% afterf 12 hours...

Op so ur liking the evo more? Just curious because I am considering giving my epic back to sprint for an evo because this has to be one of the most unreliable phones I have owned.
Sent from my EB13 Samsung Epic
To be honest, the features that made me choose the epic over the evo have let me down. The keyboard misses and the screen sucks too much juice. My gf still hasn't plugged in her evo, its at 42% 15h20m.
But, I just installed the new syndicate rom and have high hopes. I don't want to jump the gun but my keyboard seems fixed and it's very quick. If all proves stable and I get comparable battery life (~15 hours would be fine) ill be more than happy with my epic. I would hate to lose this screen and am used to a hardware keyboard again. Just hate feeling like I need to plug it in every time I use it.
Oh and the call quality is the worst I have ever experienced but I don't know if it's the tinny speaker or sprint...maybe both (came from tmobile).
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
My epic was working good but today was the final breaking point for me. My phone is literally used in life a death situations (I am a paramedic if you couldn't guess by user name lol) and today I was on a call where I had to pull my battery 6 times to get it to dial out.
For me that is a deal breaker. I have learned to live with the keyboard by slowing down. I was debating on giving the rom you are using a try and seeing how that goes.
Sent from my EB13 Samsung Epic
This probably won't apply to you if it's saying the display is 90%, but two other battery drains that you didn't mention are "use wireless networks" for location and google talk, which auto signs in unless you change it in the talk app settings.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Why don't you try switching phones with her for a day or two and see if it's still the case. If you have horrible reception in an area, that can quickly drain the battery. There are so many variables that come into play and the second you two leave each other's sides, there is no way to compare the phones.
Thx for the suggestions. My location settings are off and I signed out of gtalk.
We have been right next to each other as she isn't working and I work from home. However, while she was bragging how much "better" her phone is she mentioned that she keeps gps and wireless on all day. This could have an impact considering the spotty service here, I just thought that juice defender would take care of it (should turn off 3g).
Btw, I had her not charge her phone. She is sitting at 16% 1d2h53m

A "hot"issue...

Hi dudes i am using cm7 nightly#177, based on 2.3.5 andy, since 1 week, and with its 2.6.35 kernal, and just a little bit oc of about 576 mhz, and lowest to about 352 mhz, and the governer is in smartassv2.( hope u all got the situation), so now my problem is the phone get too hot(atleast for the above cpu settings) only when it is connected to internet, and not always. So whats the matter? And i think it is as hot as running the phone @ 650+ mhz in old 7.0.3 cm7(full load!) . So what might be the problem?had any one experienced the same?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Not while connected to the internet, it does get pretty hot while charging though (Especially the first 15-20 minutes after it is connected), and, seeing the battery issues abound, I must admit I am a bit spooked.
So do i need to revert back?, whatz ur openion? Coz, i am 'in love' with the stablness of 7.0.3 yet i said ' i love you ' to the features of #177. So who gona become my love till i got married to 7.1 stable cm7.

Well i am using the same nightly .. and iit works great ... less FCs than stable CM7 .. ... and i am overclocking it to 768 MHz min 352 MHz .. no temperature issues .. but it geta hot while charging .. not unusual ... many cell phones do so while charging .. ..
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Same here, I'm overvlocked to 768 and 176 minimum, phone only gets warm when charging and using at the same time, personally I don't think its cm7 causing your problems.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
When phone is on charger is normal to become hot,but when you are using the net there not should be any significant changes in temperature, maybe if your out and weather is hot outside then phone can become hot
No dudes itz not becoz of weather, if its so then why i cant experience it in 7.0.3 stable, as i used it for a month, and for checking again, i reverted back to it, and checked, now its not happening, again i flashed nightly, the problem is back, and i experience the hot issue in charging, also when i connect to carrier data,ie edge. And not when i use wifi . Its pretty hot when i use edge, and cools down when i dissable carrier data access.

Just do not let it go beyond 41C. Just 10mins of wifi surfing will get you to 40C *@710MHz well at least for our tropical weather -.-* You might want to check your temps regularly.

Htc, says in the german usermanual for htc touch 2...
don't let it go beyond 60 C [140F] ( the battery temperature.. the only thing you can measure), maybe this is a very high limitation
but i think 41C is not critical and even 45-48C should be no problem regarding to the statement of htc.

drop the oc kernel and replace with faux enhanced 2.0 1 ghz , setcpu only controls one core at the moment , faux has alittle more work to do on his kernal to get full control of 2nd core so it's not runing at 1300 and burning up battery power
homebase 3.4, update 5.4a , faux enhanced 2.0 1 ghz kernel . battery last for 2 days + 20% left
use setcpu , set up profiles, underclock the profiles
task manager, add most of the apps to auto end list
For me it helped to get rid of market, gmail app, set CPU profiles, alarms, auto syncing, Ebay, juice defender! Google apps seem to be worst offenders.

Battery Life
I had the same problem recently, especially with Faux's 2.0 kernel @ 1.1ghz(1.9 had better battery life :/). Even with Juice Defender(the saint of batter life) I was only getting like 16 hours. My first suggestion is to use 1ghz for standard use, and to create a CPU profile which drops clock speed to 216mhz when screen is off. The difference between 1.1ghz and 1ghz with me was 80% after 12 hours compared to 30%. As I mentioned before, if you're rooted, get JuiceDefender. It has typically gets me 1.4x-1.5x the battery life. That is, even in you're sad case, 6 hours of extra life. Finally, kill Facebook and Browser when you're not using them, they seem to kill battery life.
I don't miss any of it. I check gmail manually via k9 mail , and I can thaw market if I need it. Right now I'm 14 hours with 42% batt.

Cyanogenmod 7 with faux's enhanced stock kernel for CM7. Make sure you have the correct radio and calibrate your battery, another member has already posted the link to that thread. I don't use juice defender or any other task killers or anything like that. Brightness turned to 20%, set CPU profile set to powersave, gps satellites disabled. I'm at 7 hours and 46 minutes with 86% left. This is with 124 texts sent, 1 five or so minute call and a couple pictures taken. If this set up doesn't work for you consider buying a new battery.
