Way to get battery battery life? - Atrix 4G General

Hey guys, I'm sorry if there already are posts on this but yeah. My phone is only getting 12 hours max on faux 1.3 ghz and my rom is homebase 3.3 de-blur extreme
and i also have setcpu and I uv it and no widgets. But people are getting like 24 hours+ of heavy usage on their battery...What rom/kernel/uv settings are capable of getting that?

drop the oc kernel and replace with faux enhanced 2.0 1 ghz , setcpu only controls one core at the moment , faux has alittle more work to do on his kernal to get full control of 2nd core so it's not runing at 1300 and burning up battery power
homebase 3.4, update 5.4a , faux enhanced 2.0 1 ghz kernel . battery last for 2 days + 20% left
use setcpu , set up profiles, underclock the profiles
task manager, add most of the apps to auto end list

For me it helped to get rid of market, gmail app, set CPU profiles, alarms, auto syncing, Ebay, juice defender! Google apps seem to be worst offenders.

Battery Life
I had the same problem recently, especially with Faux's 2.0 kernel @ 1.1ghz(1.9 had better battery life :/). Even with Juice Defender(the saint of batter life) I was only getting like 16 hours. My first suggestion is to use 1ghz for standard use, and to create a CPU profile which drops clock speed to 216mhz when screen is off. The difference between 1.1ghz and 1ghz with me was 80% after 12 hours compared to 30%. As I mentioned before, if you're rooted, get JuiceDefender. It has typically gets me 1.4x-1.5x the battery life. That is, even in you're sad case, 6 hours of extra life. Finally, kill Facebook and Browser when you're not using them, they seem to kill battery life.

I don't miss any of it. I check gmail manually via k9 mail , and I can thaw market if I need it. Right now I'm 14 hours with 42% batt.

Alien Rom.

I'm getting horrible battery life on any deblurred roms. It seems that the integrated battery saver from blur greatly improves battery life.

How much are you using the phone? And how long does it last?

Im constantly texting, probably send and receive 400 a day? Im at 8000 and it has been a month lol. And im always on facebook to, I get 10 hours. And I live with a laggy phone that's usually at 216 even when im using it to prevent it from dying but it still does, im on faux 1.3ghz and I only overclock when I play nintendo64 , blur was horrible for me my phone would almost be dead by lunch and ill try juice defender. Is there a rom you guys would suggest to save battery? On days when in barely use my phone it still lasts only 12 hours. Thia is ridiculous lol

I got set cpu for free on a forum I flashed to hombase 3.3 version 2#2 and I wasn't getting reception after that :/ and yeah. Ill do that tutorial tonight

Cyanogenmod 7 with faux's enhanced stock kernel for CM7. Make sure you have the correct radio and calibrate your battery, another member has already posted the link to that thread. I don't use juice defender or any other task killers or anything like that. Brightness turned to 20%, set CPU profile set to powersave, gps satellites disabled. I'm at 7 hours and 46 minutes with 86% left. This is with 124 texts sent, 1 five or so minute call and a couple pictures taken. If this set up doesn't work for you consider buying a new battery.

I don't know about that set-up that's what my phone is set at, I want a better battery life then 10 hours I wanna get like 16 hours if I can

Better battery life!

Hey guys & gals just wanted 2 share something with u. I recently decided 2 uninstall cetcpu from my phone & decided 2 go with cpu tuner instead. In doing so i've noticed my battery life improve significantly with some profile tweaking of course. If you've run the virtuous htc sence rom with the pershoot o.c kernal u know how disgusting the battery life can b.It literally sucks the juice out of your battery like "Debbie" from Debbie does Dallas sucks the juice out of...well u know. Anyway,i also noticed how little juice the system resources now use up. I included a screenshot of the battery status screen.Hope this helps anyone with battery issues especially if your running the rom & kernal mentioned above, it worked 4 maybe it can work 4 u. P.S I have the screen set to 20% brightness, gps, wifi, blutooth, autosync all disabled.Only reason i mention this is because even with all these things disabled along with a few other,b4 installing cpu tuner my battery would still drain like crazy. Thx.
That's some horrible grammar.

Anyway, Your saying the cpu tuner helps the battery life? I'll give this a go but I don't use any of the sense roms. I'm all for better battery life although I do get 15h on pershoots kernel running cm 6.1 stable.

i have almost the exact same info on mine with setcpu oc to 1ghz on CM6.1 and i get atleast a full day of use with frequent music and texts. alot better then any other android phone.
I don't know how you guys are having such bad battery life. Currently at the moment I am at 22h 11m 51s since unplugged with 57% left. This is all with CM6.1 RC4 w/ wifi + wifi calling on all the time when I am home, autosync on for everything, auto brightness, and some use of gps. I listen to music on my phone for atleast 3+ hours walking to and from class + texting, browsing, facebook, twitter, fantasy league during class and the occasional call, pretty good usage. with setcpu on oc to 1ghz with some profiles set up.
what if im not running sense?

Is the phone not quick enough at 1Ghz? I keep mines on stock speeds, have setcpu installed but don't use, and have CyanogensMod on it. I get the whole days worth plus more of battery. I can't even kill it when I want to recalibrate it.
A whole day for me is about 16-20 hours for me without charging. This is MADNESS!

Not that the phone is not fast enough. It's placebo effect where people "feel" that it needs to be faster when they overclock it at crazy speed. The G2 has already proved itself a speed monster, none of the android phones out there can top it right now. As for the battery life, I honestly don't notice any considerable improvement.

So what settings exactly are you using on the cpu tuner? Just wanted to know so I can replicate it.
My settings.
@quierotacobell...Under "Current" i have governor set to:conservative,Max:1094Ghz,Min:768Mhz.
"Profiles":

Keep in mind i have wifi, blutooth, & sync disabled all across the board. Also i'm simply stating what worked for me it's no guarantee it's going to work for you.

No active task killers I just have System Panel installed monitoring and occasionally I use it to kill apps when the phone lags.
As for apps, mostly GMail and the Stock Email app (set up for a work Exchage account) Stock music player for playing to my bluetooth. CraigsNotification is running. I have Facebook set to the longest refresh time, use Gemini Calender for my schedule Pure grid calender widget. Umm google voice is set up for my voicemail but I rarely get those... Go contacts/Dialer for calls. Those are the heavy used ones I can think of. The rest are maybe once every other day usage.
i have my Gmail Sync on, Contact Sync on, Push Microsoft email, and auto brightness i drop about 2% per 4 hours. I wonder if the Craigslist app is killing it's searching alot.
Think it is probably your bluetooth music...try a set of corded headphones/earbuds one day/all day if possible and there should be a noticeable difference...

I would agree, but like I said right now I am at 79% and 2 hours into my phone being off the charger, bluetooth isn't even on and I haven't touched the music as today is my day off... Something in my settings seems to be the culprit cuz Android System at 44% doesn't seem healthy.
I'm on CM7 and get about 12hrs battery life. My mods are as follows:
LauncherPro
Stock kernal
Bloat freezer (get this, freeze apps that may be killing batt. I froze ADW, HTC sync, and various others, just be careful with what you freeze).
Auto screen brightness
Average sync at 2 hours
Wifi on always (3g pulls quite a bit more batt than you'd think)
GPS on (only pulls when in use e.g. maps, navigation)
SetCPU:
Max 998mhz when above 80% batt (90% priority)
Min 245mhz when below 20% batt (100% priority)
Max 800mhz when above 60% batt (60% priority)
Max 998mhz when plugged in (100% priority)
These settings have all increased battery life significantly. I'm at 75% now and have been unplugged since 9am PDT.
Also, Bluetooth only pulls when in use such as streaming.

Ahh, I see. In that case, I agree with neidlinger that you may have a rogue app constantly running...
BT is probably not the issue. I had a bt headset for about a week and listened to audiobooks regularly without a significant loss in battery compared to a wired set. Must be something in the system or an app. Tried a full wipe and a fresh download of the rom?

Download a app called watchdog, see if it gives an alert about a rogue app thats killing the battery life.
Watchdog is a good app. I've had some issues with it saying LauncherPro is an issue or even ADW. At one point it told me android system was a problem. Still, worth a shot.

HAHAHAHA My thoughts exactly!!! And I have an RMA MyTouch so I flashed new EVERYTHING on it and still have the same issues so I know its not a hardware issue (3 different batteries too so yeahhhh...) I have gone all out on this messing with all the settings I can think of and I'm getting NOOOOOO improvement! My newest foray now is turning off the Google backup thing and seeing if that helps any. Anyone here use/not use that feature and see loss or gain of battery? I'm gonna try uninstalling SetCPU next but that seems odd to me as that program was the only thing helping my last phone (HTC Evo) Get well over 15+ hours!
What are the chances that the theme I have is causing the problem? Cuz I saw theme chooser is one of the things listed under android system and android system seems to be the killer of my battery. I use the Mixer v4 theme btw, its the most visual theme I have seen so far I mean it changes ALOT of stuff...

Which ROM and Kernel for better battery life?

I'm looking for a ROM which can make my device hit at least 24 hours with light/moderate use. I know it's based on how the much the user interacts with the phone, signal strength, etc but there has to be a ROM which made your battery life amazing! I'm currently hitting about 12-14 hours with light to moderate use. I've seen people that use it the same amount and get nearly 2 days, how can I achieve this? I read somewhere that Pershoots kernel does well with extending battery life.
I'm currently on CM7 with the stock cm kernel.
Thanks for any helpful posts!
Okay so in my experience to get 'good" battery life with a g2 you need to turn off your push updates, stay off of data as much as possible, and only hook into wifi when you need it. Make sure your screen is on for no longer than 30 seconds, turn down your brightness, and set some profiles under setcpu to downclock you after you get to sub X battery life. Just make sure to increase the priority the lower your battery life goes.
The best and most consistent battery life figure I've gotten is 42-48 hr by generally not being a complete dickwad. If you flash a rom and have to download all your apps again it is going to suck you dry. I ran Cm6.1.1 with preshoots kernel for a goodly while and have pulled the same speed/battery life as I do on Virtuous with Advanced Kernel. It's taken a couple days for it to settle in but yeah, you're looking at 42ish with moderate net usage, full signal, and darn near constant texting.
Edit: Let me clarify. As your power goes down you should downclock in 5% increments. For every 5% less battery power you have, you need to increase the priority of that profile by 5%. Make a profile that is 100% priority but downclocks your cpu to 350ish max and 200ish min. Also something to keep in mind is that every piece of hardware is different. Some people can report fantastic life on the same kernel and OS. Just one of those weird machine god things.

I can get a day and a half with team villian sense ginger. The one before 3.0 best battery life i have seen yet. This is a 1.5days with constant OC no screen profiles or any kind of battery saving profiles. I would say im a slighty less then heavy user. Wifi always runs and i use gps for about an hour depending where im going. Now i normally charge her up every night but i have forgotten on ocasion and made it till i got home from work the next day.

+1 on villan rom, i set an off screen OC to 300MHZ and an on screen to 1.5Ghz, and i get 20+ hours out of it with mild data. wifi off unless im home and location always turned off unless i need it.
Might give that villian rom a try, is there a specific kernel I should use? Or should I just use the one that's already on the villian rom?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
just download from the current thread, the 1.5 version, it has an kernel that OC's to 1.5GHZ and works well.
i would download as is, and if you like, play with the kernel later on if you really want to.
Or if you like sense get sense ginger. Im not sure how you can get the older version but you could try the new one.

He is right, but lots of us has been through several ROMs and I can say that from the look of it all the ROMs use lots of battery life due to all the running processes. If you end up finding a ROM that supports your needs post it and let everyone know. Hope I helped

How to get epic battery life?

Hey guys,
I see some people here have AMAZING battery life. Some people are getting 4+ hours screen on time with a single charge.
I only get around 2 - 2.5 hours screen on time. Which is good, but not as good as other people.
I am using the latest Paranoid Android ROM, and I have tried many different kernels but battery life is the same with all of them. I tried undervolting, still the same battery life.
All location/gps settings are OFF. The only syncing I have is Facebook syncing every 4 hours. I checked the battery stats, and everything is normal. I checked Better Battery Stats and everything is normal too, no unusual wakelocks or anything like that.
I checked my cpu bin in terminal, and it has been binned as a 'FASTER' cpu.
I have very good signal all the time. Always use WiFi, never mobile data. Bluetooth, NFC are OFF, and brightness is autobrightness.
So after all this, why am I not getting amazing battery life like others?
Thank you!

Because you use the phone and the others no! I have similar battery life. I get 3 hours screen on time.
Try cyanogenmod. For me is the best rom.
Heres a few things that help me:
make sure if your on a ROM that has it to disable cell broadcasts in wireless & network settings.
In Google sync settings, uncheck everything you don't use or can manually sync. The only things I leave checked are gmail, contacts & calendar.
If you've opened maps, make sure to back all the way out of it & swipe it away from your recent tasks screen. Better yet, if you don't need it, uninstall it or use an alternative like mapquest app.
If you don't use Google talk, open it and sign out or uninstall it.
Try not to overdo it with widgets on your home screens. I mean a few is cool, but when u have 5 screens all jam packed with various widgets constantly running & syncing...
I know you said you've tried various kernels, but I honestly found that I got the best screen on time with Franco r86 kernel (just over 4hrs). I'm not a huge kernel fan so I haven't really tried others, but I was only getting just over 3 hrs on stock.

I use the greenify app to hibernate facebook and words with friends it helps somewhat on battery life
I recently discovered that if I reduce the brightness down to 50% (which is still very BRIGHT), I can get an extra 30% battery life.
Simple, and yet, effective
Turn the brightness down - even 10pct is plenty bright indoors.

Try Eugene's CPU Sleeper from the market. It turns off all but one of your cores while the screen is off to minimize cpu usage. On CM nightly with stock kernel I got 34 hours with 17% remaining and 2.5 hours screen on time til I ended up charging my phone. I run my CPU at 1350 max / 384 min.
Make sure under sound settings all the sound on touch, keypad, etc are all turned off. Each time your phone ticks a sound it uses battery. Also bright display backgrounds will use more battery.
I only sync chrome, calendar and instant upload
good luck

Well it basically learns your routines and changes your sync settings, turns WiFi on/off when needed, and various other things you could do yourself but might forget. Kinda like tasker for lazy people so in theory yes it could save you some battery.

Tried his kernel already a few weeks ago. No real change in battery.
That seems weird
I am completely stock, and set things more or less the same with you (not syncing, no gps unless needed, on wifi all the time) and I could get over 4 hours screen on time on an 18 hours battery life. I believe this phone (chipset?) is really efficient on standby. Does your phone show that it's being kept awake much using the cpu spy app?
Same here... I'm on stock and the best i got was pretty impressive i think. 49 hours with 4 hours screen on time. I waited till the phone turned off by itself Even though i don't get that with heavier use, it's still enough to take me through a whole day which is better then my old phone
My battery saving tips:
-turn off everything you're not using (wi-fi when not at home or office/school, bluetooth, gps, low brightness indoors)
-swype away apps after you exit from them
-turn off the screen when you put it down/in your pocket etc.
-turn off google now
That is everything that i do. No sync disabling, undervolting, underclocking or other tricks
Install greenify app from playstore

That doesn't do anything. Android as a native app killer. On the other side, this would lead to more battery consumption as Android would have to initalize data the next time you open that app. IMHO leave the apps as they are, Android would take care of them and kill them when required.

IMO it's isn't as powerful as tasker, but it's giving some extra juice.

Samsung Galaxy S3 *AWESOME STOCK BATTERY LIFE*

THIS THREAD WAS INSPIRED BY MOST OFF YOU WHO ARE TRYING TO GET MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE WITH SOME CUSTOM ROMS.
Before Galaxy S3, I had Galaxy S2 which battery wasn't soo good. I was always searching for battery friendly roms and I was flashing one or two roms every day. After every custom rom I was thought like that: Why I done that, when every stock firmware gives better result(battery life and performance) then any custom rom. I know that there are some excellent custom roms, for me ,these are STOCK LOOK roms with bloatware deleted and some unused apps. But, we don't need to flash them when we can do that alone.
NOW,I HAVE GALAXY S3 :
Let's see my result on stock battery, stock rom (4.1.2 , DDELK1,XXELLC), and with some apps turned off in application manager, battery saving is turned on just for color of backoground, nothing else. That was heavy usage,I installed that firmware updated, all appps that I am using , and charged it. Viber,WhatsApp,Instagram,Sync,Wifi,3G,Facebook,Gmail, are always ON.
Results:
4h of screen on,phone was used(wasn't just screen on) , 52% battery left. I lose about 3-4% maximum during the night ( 7-8 hours) with wifi on.
See this on attachments.
Mostly ,my battery lasts for 2 days, I achieve min. 5,5 hours screen on in every charge with hd gaming, facebook, gmail, whatsapp, viber, about 40min-1h talk in 3g every day.
My tips for battery life improvement are:
-Turn the Energy saving(I turned it on just for background color i vibration,if you turn on full battery saving you will get much better result, but it seems to slow and laggy)
-Turn off apps that you aren't using in app manager( Settings,Application Manager,All > than find apps which are unusal for you. I turned off : All yahoo apps, samsung suggest, google +,flipboard, dual clock, chat on ,all samsung hubs because they doesnt work in my country, google maps(I use google earth).)
That's all. Enjoy that battery, that performance and that beauty of stock rom

Hi Guys,
This is actually my 1st post, but I was looking around xda for couple of months now.
I am using stock rooted XXELLA with Siyah kernel. I can make my phone last easily for 2 days, with 2g mostly on, disabled lots of unused apps, lowest brightness, sync off, etc. and UC to 1200 mhz. I'm using pegasusq gov and noop scheduler.
But I can't imagine 4 hours screen on and get 52% battery left, or get 7,5 hrs totally. I always monitor the usage with BetterBatteryStats and when the screen is off I can even get about 4-6 hrs / 1%. But I can't reach >5,5-6 hrs screen on. Any suggestions? Do you think I can lower the min. brightness in build.prop?
Btw, I think if you share your battery stats, it would be nice if you also share your governor/scheduler and OC/UV values.

I don't think it would make any difference, since I have only few apps, I don't like putting garbage to my phone Could you maybe share kernel and partial wakelocks from BBS, maybe cpu states too?
And again about the 4h screen / 52% left - how did you use the phone? I can see no games, so only web surf etc?

Everyone uses their phone differently so comparing battery life is not possible, someone who demands smooth scrolling and instant response is not going to get 2 days use or more than 4hr screen on time.
Personally I'm not worried by stutters or lag, I'd rather get 9hr screen on time over 48hr up time - this is with a super lite ROM, I have all the bell and whistles turned off and all power saving options on, as close to AOSP as a stock based ROM can get.
I'm very happy with this phone, compared to my old htc sensation I no longer worry about battery life, I have two batteries which get swapped over between phone and desk charger every two days, unless playing games when I only get 1 day life.

Hey op, sorry to say this but you might be wrong. For battery life it depends on kernels and tweaks rather than on roms. Roms are actually just themed/stock themed firmwares with additional apps/removed apps and pre-installed tweaks and kernels. Most roms use v6 supercharger tweak. For me I use phenomenal kernel which has undervolted and underclocked gpu and cpu. But if you want more options with oc/uv try boeffla kernel where there"s an app included that allows you to over/underclock you gpu and cpu. By underclocking, it will save more battery. My ohone lasted about 12+ hours of continuous use of my phone (gaming, watching videos) with the kernels I use
