THIS THREAD WAS INSPIRED BY MOST OFF YOU WHO ARE TRYING TO GET MAXIMUM BATTERY LIFE WITH SOME CUSTOM ROMS.
Before Galaxy S3, I had Galaxy S2 which battery wasn't soo good. I was always searching for battery friendly roms and I was flashing one or two roms every day. After every custom rom I was thought like that: Why I done that, when every stock firmware gives better result(battery life and performance) then any custom rom. I know that there are some excellent custom roms, for me ,these are STOCK LOOK roms with bloatware deleted and some unused apps. But, we don't need to flash them when we can do that alone.
NOW,I HAVE GALAXY S3 :
Let's see my result on stock battery, stock rom (4.1.2 , DDELK1,XXELLC), and with some apps turned off in application manager, battery saving is turned on just for color of backoground, nothing else. That was heavy usage,I installed that firmware updated, all appps that I am using , and charged it. Viber,WhatsApp,Instagram,Sync,Wifi,3G,Facebook,Gmail, are always ON.
Results:
4h of screen on,phone was used(wasn't just screen on) , 52% battery left. I lose about 3-4% maximum during the night ( 7-8 hours) with wifi on.
See this on attachments.
Mostly ,my battery lasts for 2 days, I achieve min. 5,5 hours screen on in every charge with hd gaming, facebook, gmail, whatsapp, viber, about 40min-1h talk in 3g every day.
My tips for battery life improvement are:
-Turn the Energy saving(I turned it on just for background color i vibration,if you turn on full battery saving you will get much better result, but it seems to slow and laggy)
-Turn off apps that you aren't using in app manager( Settings,Application Manager,All > than find apps which are unusal for you. I turned off : All yahoo apps, samsung suggest, google +,flipboard, dual clock, chat on ,all samsung hubs because they doesnt work in my country, google maps(I use google earth).)
That's all. Enjoy that battery, that performance and that beauty of stock rom
I can get 7.5 hrs screen on over 3 days battery was better on ics but still pretty darn good

Hi Guys,
This is actually my 1st post, but I was looking around xda for couple of months now.
I am using stock rooted XXELLA with Siyah kernel. I can make my phone last easily for 2 days, with 2g mostly on, disabled lots of unused apps, lowest brightness, sync off, etc. and UC to 1200 mhz. I'm using pegasusq gov and noop scheduler.
But I can't imagine 4 hours screen on and get 52% battery left, or get 7,5 hrs totally. I always monitor the usage with BetterBatteryStats and when the screen is off I can even get about 4-6 hrs / 1%. But I can't reach >5,5-6 hrs screen on. Any suggestions? Do you think I can lower the min. brightness in build.prop?
Btw, I think if you share your battery stats, it would be nice if you also share your governor/scheduler and OC/UV values.

i do exactly the same thing like you did. I am searching for custom roms giving the best battery life with good performance. But it seems like i cant get over 4 hours screen on time (especially with data turned on).
I dont know how you got that kind of amazing result... 4h screen on time with 52% battery left. wow...
I never turned on power saving mode cause i just dont like the laggy system performance. do u have any advice what to do to achieve the same battery life without having a laggy slow phone?

I don't think it would make any difference, since I have only few apps, I don't like putting garbage to my phone Could you maybe share kernel and partial wakelocks from BBS, maybe cpu states too?
And again about the 4h screen / 52% left - how did you use the phone? I can see no games, so only web surf etc?

Everyone uses their phone differently so comparing battery life is not possible, someone who demands smooth scrolling and instant response is not going to get 2 days use or more than 4hr screen on time.
Personally I'm not worried by stutters or lag, I'd rather get 9hr screen on time over 48hr up time - this is with a super lite ROM, I have all the bell and whistles turned off and all power saving options on, as close to AOSP as a stock based ROM can get.
I'm very happy with this phone, compared to my old htc sensation I no longer worry about battery life, I have two batteries which get swapped over between phone and desk charger every two days, unless playing games when I only get 1 day life.

Hey op, sorry to say this but you might be wrong. For battery life it depends on kernels and tweaks rather than on roms. Roms are actually just themed/stock themed firmwares with additional apps/removed apps and pre-installed tweaks and kernels. Most roms use v6 supercharger tweak. For me I use phenomenal kernel which has undervolted and underclocked gpu and cpu. But if you want more options with oc/uv try boeffla kernel where there"s an app included that allows you to over/underclock you gpu and cpu. By underclocking, it will save more battery. My ohone lasted about 12+ hours of continuous use of my phone (gaming, watching videos) with the kernels I use

I have had over 8 hours of screen time, but that was literally not using phone just leaving screen on with videos playing for a lot of the time, but everyday usage using the Xperia Rom I get about 5 hours. I charge every night so don't need 2 day 3 day usage etc, unless my plane crashes onto a deserted island where I have to survive with no form of electricity anywhere.

Some extended idling:
Cognition 1.13 with CF KG1 Kernel, Phone undervolted as in screenshot + GPU @ 750mV for both states.
Android OS still taking 1h15m CPU time in that screenshot, which, in my experience in this case is I *think* because of Skype running all the time there. Also Trillian connected to multiple services running constantly with Wifi.
I'm using Cognition 1.15 with modified 1.4 ninmphetamine kernel, very good battery life so far! (probably the best compared to villainrom and litening rom for me)
Having fixed my awake issue my battery life is reasonable but i expected betted with villainrom + nenphetamine custom + undervolt.
We need to guage some good comparisons id like to get an extended idle test dont know if i can leave my phone for that long. LOL
Btw How did you undervolt gpu?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I would stay away from these newer kernels like Nephetamine until they actually mature. I alslo tried some other custom kernels and they kinda drained the battery way more. So I'm sticking to a plain kernel like CF for the moment. Also seems better to stick to the normal ondemand governor.
Undervolting GPU via Tegrak Ultimate, it's worth it imho, especially since I basically shaved off 25% voltage without any issues.

Please post your battery life experience in here. I am doing this because if Samsung does come here from time to time, let us show them how many users experience poor battery life with the JB rom. Also, let us ignore wipes or full resets since people may receive this update via OTA or Kies and they should not have to do a full wipe or reset to get a good battery life.
No doubt it is better.

mine is better than ics in jb. using android revolution hd 12.

I've tried litterally every JB leak so far inckuding the official ones.
I got sick of having bad battery life on all of them, no matter if I wiped etc.
So two weeks ago I put the very first stock rom on my phone (dated may!), and let it run auto updates from my carrier.
It ended up on LH3 and the battery life is night and day better. I'm getting over 24 hours easy now with what I consider to be decent use -phone calls, lots of facebook, whatsapp, browsing and at least 90 mins of mp3 playback each day. I leave wifi, 3g and BT one the whole time and it always gets over 24 hours.
Today though I flashed the newest UK Hutchison 3G official JB as it's my carrier. I'm going to see how this goes but I'm not expecting it to keep up with ICS. I'll be very happy if it does though.
It was terrible on JB for me (less than 24 hours of moderate use).
I disabled google now and installed juice defender and I get at least 2 days and maybe 3 if lighter use.
Swedish ROM is by far the best in battery life.

Battery life for keeps getting better with each jellybean update. Currently on omega v28 with perseus kernel and battery life is the best its ever been. 24hrs easily with 5± hrs screen time.
On Jellybean i get 6hrs on screen at 25% brightness and 16hrs idle with Wi-Fi off during sleep and whilst using mobile data
WanamLite 4.0, Siyah 1.7RC1 -100mv CPU and -100/-125mv GPU coupled with dualcore only at 1.2Ghz and touch-boost for 600Mhz at results are shown above and below whilst remaining lag free
Other tweaks: EXT4 optimizations, Multi-tasking fix, SQLite tweaks, SD card cache increase for internal&external to help maintain speed

Hey guys,
I see some people here have AMAZING battery life. Some people are getting 4+ hours screen on time with a single charge.
I only get around 2 - 2.5 hours screen on time. Which is good, but not as good as other people.
I am using the latest Paranoid Android ROM, and I have tried many different kernels but battery life is the same with all of them. I tried undervolting, still the same battery life.
All location/gps settings are OFF. The only syncing I have is Facebook syncing every 4 hours. I checked the battery stats, and everything is normal. I checked Better Battery Stats and everything is normal too, no unusual wakelocks or anything like that.
I checked my cpu bin in terminal, and it has been binned as a 'FASTER' cpu.
I have very good signal all the time. Always use WiFi, never mobile data. Bluetooth, NFC are OFF, and brightness is autobrightness.
So after all this, why am I not getting amazing battery life like others?
Thank you!

Because you use the phone and the others no! I have similar battery life. I get 3 hours screen on time.
Try cyanogenmod. For me is the best rom.
Heres a few things that help me:
make sure if your on a ROM that has it to disable cell broadcasts in wireless & network settings.
In Google sync settings, uncheck everything you don't use or can manually sync. The only things I leave checked are gmail, contacts & calendar.
If you've opened maps, make sure to back all the way out of it & swipe it away from your recent tasks screen. Better yet, if you don't need it, uninstall it or use an alternative like mapquest app.
If you don't use Google talk, open it and sign out or uninstall it.
Try not to overdo it with widgets on your home screens. I mean a few is cool, but when u have 5 screens all jam packed with various widgets constantly running & syncing...
I know you said you've tried various kernels, but I honestly found that I got the best screen on time with Franco r86 kernel (just over 4hrs). I'm not a huge kernel fan so I haven't really tried others, but I was only getting just over 3 hrs on stock.

Try Eugene's CPU Sleeper from the market. It turns off all but one of your cores while the screen is off to minimize cpu usage. On CM nightly with stock kernel I got 34 hours with 17% remaining and 2.5 hours screen on time til I ended up charging my phone. I run my CPU at 1350 max / 384 min.
Make sure under sound settings all the sound on touch, keypad, etc are all turned off. Each time your phone ticks a sound it uses battery. Also bright display backgrounds will use more battery.
I only sync chrome, calendar and instant upload
good luck

It just turns radios off and shuts down syncing, nothing you can't do by yourself.

Well it basically learns your routines and changes your sync settings, turns WiFi on/off when needed, and various other things you could do yourself but might forget. Kinda like tasker for lazy people so in theory yes it could save you some battery.

I only sync chrome, calendar and instant upload
good luck

Thanks for that app, I'll try it to see if it helps.

Tried his kernel already a few weeks ago. No real change in battery.
That seems weird
I am completely stock, and set things more or less the same with you (not syncing, no gps unless needed, on wifi all the time) and I could get over 4 hours screen on time on an 18 hours battery life. I believe this phone (chipset?) is really efficient on standby. Does your phone show that it's being kept awake much using the cpu spy app?
Same here... I'm on stock and the best i got was pretty impressive i think. 49 hours with 4 hours screen on time. I waited till the phone turned off by itself Even though i don't get that with heavier use, it's still enough to take me through a whole day which is better then my old phone
My battery saving tips:
-turn off everything you're not using (wi-fi when not at home or office/school, bluetooth, gps, low brightness indoors)
-swype away apps after you exit from them
-turn off the screen when you put it down/in your pocket etc.
-turn off google now
That is everything that i do. No sync disabling, undervolting, underclocking or other tricks
Install greenify app from playstore

That doesn't do anything. Android as a native app killer. On the other side, this would lead to more battery consumption as Android would have to initalize data the next time you open that app. IMHO leave the apps as they are, Android would take care of them and kill them when required.

IMO it's isn't as powerful as tasker, but it's giving some extra juice.
hi. I am o supernexus build 5 wth siyah kernel. I got round 7 hiurs if heavy usage on gs2. I've done facebook, viber, internet using stock browser and downloading around 200mb zip file. what can you say about this battery life. its my first time to use gs2 and I am using 2000mah. the battery life seems pretty bad in my opinion. oh really that means I should be getting better because I am on 2000mah but it seems not. Im not sure what's the problem if its the battery or the kernel. I also used an ICS firmware from Samsung I9100TDULP4. I don't know if that affects the battery life

right now I am using the original 1650 mah stock battery of s2. I've been doing a lot of file transfers as of this moment via e.s. file explorer and currently I am transferring almost 13gb of data via wifi from my laptop. its been awake for 4 hours now with screen time of 1 hour and 30min. e.s. file explorer is keeping the system awake for 3 hours. I did some facebook and viber chats. screen at 35% brightness.. do you think this is the expected life of the stock battery? I am fairly new to samsung and I found the battery life to be disappointing even with the stock jelly bean rom from samsung. I will post some pics of the battery stats and cpu stats from cpu spy. another thing though. is there a good app from the market where I can test my two batteries and compare them? thank you

To callibrate battery..first completely drain the battery to about 5%, then charge the phone non stop without disturbing it till 100% and immediately remove the charger..again fully drain the battery and follow the above steps and u will get better battery life after a few cycles!
About roms..battery life does differ from rom to rom...i suggest u could check the custom kernels packed with zzmoove governor, ithat particular governor definitely improves the battery backup!
And in the above post es file explorer is eating ur battery..for that u should download greenify and hibernate apps continuously running in background!
great. I will follow your steps. one more thing. how can I know if the battery is still good or if its still holding the proper charge its suppose to have? thanks

best I can get is about 3 days standby in jb stock.
I use the 2000mAh battery is primary battery.. no big surprise to expect here, capacity is just 21% more by construction...
With wifi on, JB burns in my case about 3% in IDLE.. stock kernel.. and about 5% in 3G mode, IDLE.. then battery drains more or less fast depending on screen on, phone calls etc. I use the phone extensively for work (email sync & replies, phone calls, sms and voip) and i have to topup the battery twice or trice a day!
Have tried various custom kernels with all sort of magic to reduce battery drain.. more or less effectively.. sometimes with less stability.
Right now trying out latest dorimanx 8.27.. seems thatn IDLE with WIFI on drains around 2% per hour.. better than stock.. still not quite awesome
I miss the GB battery life.. but JB is so beautiful in comparison, I cannot go back!

Does Jb stock for you has better life or does custom rom have more? I really like the custom roms but as per observation stock rom offers more battery time. Right now I just reverted to stock rom i9100xwlss. Touchwiz really sucks. Supernexus is really beautiful but offers less battery (but I will have to try yet their latest build). Also one of the reasons for going back to stock is the camera shot quality. Custom roms really have poor camera quality. I guess when it comes to lowlight shots the stock roms are best. So much for that. Does stock rom offer more battry for you or custom rom does?

Below is a reply in some other forum by Samsung offcials regarding a specific method to Hard-Reboot your phone after a Firmware update: This method particularly helped me improve the battery life on SGS2 after 4.1.2 update.
"1. I’m sorry you are having issues with your device after upgrading the firmware. I can understand your frustration about this.
Old systems settings can be left on the phone after an update occurs, which is why we usually recommend a full factory reset after updating. If this isn’t done your device may begin to give false readings from system resources, or experience technical problems, which may explain the issue you are having.
We would advise on doing the following, which is designed to reset the settings on your device. Please back up your device using Samsung KIES before you do this.
1) Remove the battery for at least 40 minutes, put the battery back in and allow it to fully discharge. Afterwards, perform a full battery charge with the device turned off. Do not interrupt the charging process.
2) After the battery is fully charged, we would like you to perform a full factory reset, which can be done via Settings > Backup > Reset.
This process will reset your device, remove old system files that are no longer needed and enable your device to operate normally again.
Please let us know if your device continues to experience problems after the reset so we can investigate further.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Stewart

Actually I only use stock JB.. and trying to get it last longer with some custom kernels.. recently trying snapdragon rom, which is stock JB as well but with some S4 apk made compatible with S2... tried some time back omega, vanila rootbox and some other android builds for s2.. but was facing few stability issues / bugs and also missed some features that i was getting from stock rom.. so i gave up with these... now just aiming at stability and if possible battery endurance.. but not at the cost of stability.
I saw quite a few topics comparing consumption with various kernels, setups, roms. But most of those are done by one person using one phone with different setup. Even if there would be variety of people, the information would be lost in discussions. Here I want you to post structured informations about your achievements in battery usage. Please post in following structure:
1. Battery life hours;
2. Screen on time hours;
3. Battery type;
4. Rom
5. Kernel
6. Screenshots to prove 1 and 3
7. Special notes, like consumption in offscreen time, and during screen on or some special undervolting or anything else.
My desire to see world records in battery life discipline.
My personal records were done on gingerbread rom with don't remember what kernel and conditions but believe it was tegracs kernel.

For a reliable test all must have the same apps and power mangment values.
Too many variables will lead to no conclusion.

I can boast!
I just hit a new record. I'm on the Bell (Canadian Phone Company) official 4.1.2. I use greenify to hibernate things like facebook and keep them from running the background. I used titanium backup to disable a host of system programs that I don't use/need. I also have setCPU running at its default settings.
Last week I made it to 7d 54m 24s
I forgot to look how much screen time I used but it made up 25% of my power consumption. When I'm at home or at work I have access to a PC so I only use the phone for texting, checking the odd email etc....
If I'm out of town I might get 2 days on it. My average is 4-5 days. I must not have used it too much last week.
I also have an Anker battery in it (as my originals charge time started to decrease). It seems to do rather well (maybe even slightly better than the stock battery).

I didn't save the main screen, I think those shots were made about 3 years ago. And you just have to trust me that that 11 hours were true. BUT there's one trick here. My phone had an issue at that time, it couldn't go to sleep. I put it by my bed and closed flipper over the screen. When I woke up, I picked up the phone and noticed that screen was just a little darkened but not off. I looked at screen time and was shocked, made that screen... The rest you know. so, you right that this result is out of range.

I went 7 days before I had to charge it. There's no way that was 7 days of screen time.. lol. Maybe a few hours of screen time in there. If you click on the thumbnail it will go to imagebam and make it bigger.
I never thought to screenshot the detailed screen page where it says the hours you used. I just took that snapshot because I'd never made it to 7 days before (even though I rode it all the way down to 1% power). I also use an Anker battery in it, which seems to give it a smidge more power (even though the physical battery is the same size as a stock battery).

I used to do pretty good on stock ICS 4.0.4 roms. They never released 4.0.4 in Canada so I think I used a rom from the UK. It was really light on battery consumption. Way better than gingerbread, 4.0.3 or 4.1.2.
The only downside was wiping the phone with 4.0.4 using certain programs would brick the phone so I think alot of people avoid the 4.0.4 roms (and probably why the didn't finish spreading globally).
Wow.
You guys have some good results there.
But 7 days I can hardly believe.
Cheers.
