nice, its the best tablet no one seems to be talking about. I think people were waiting for the ipad and to be honest that underwelmed but folks are still going to flock to it

Some guy asked me "is that an iPad?" I said "no, its a Xoom." You should've seen the look of befuddlement on his face....

Its sad that people don't know about the Xoom. Even worse when the same people ask, "why didn't you get an iPad?"

Trust me. They don't.

Just give it time. Motorola screwed up with opening with the most expensive model when they should have gone with the wifi only version out of the gate. Regardless it will only be a matter of a few short months when Android tablets will be everywhere...and then...the developers will come running.
IOS is a joke but it works and it is simple. Apple will not change that which means the software innovation will be left up to Google. As soon as Apple makes their system even slightly more confusing...all bets are off. Icons are for smart phones in 2008...it is 2011 and soon people will want more and they will want choice...

Mostly don't, some even asked me what's so good about android, I had to ask them the same thing about iOS and they can't even explain that to me xD

I was having dinner with some friends tonight and whipped out my XOOM to show off the NES emulator (the pattern on the table cloths looked like Tetris, so it was only inevitable.)
The waiter came over and was like "Wha...How did you get Zelda on the iPad??" and I was like "It was really easy, actually! I downloaded it from the Android market, because it's a Motorola XOOM. You can't do that with an iPad unless you jailbreak it."
He was in awe. lol

Agreed. Who wants multiple screens with a bunch of icons when you can actually make your screens look like a web site with various widgets with useful information that matters to you.

I feel it too. Everyone seems consumed by the *cough* ipad, that they don't realize tablets even exist for android. The xoom kills 'em all! Android is sooooo much better than the other *cough again* competitors. Once an "apple" lover sees the xoom in action they'll sure change to the better side!

Should've said "how did you become a dumbass?"
might be a bit overboard, but it'd get the point across.

These people aren't dumb nor is it their fault that they're not aware of the Xoom. You should be more annoyed at Motorola's marketing. I have seen one commercial and quite honestly....it sucked.
I think Android will always have this problem...Apple is one company and Android devices are made by a number of different manufacturers. Makes it hard to market Android as a whole. I guess things will get easier once the market is flooded with Android tablets.
Best thing to do is point out the positives of Android vs IOS without being a d-bag.

Really lame fanboy comments on here, but it's a Xoom forum so it's excusable i guess.
If you like your Xoom, then fine, why deride others who like their iPads? If nobody you've come across knows about the Xoom or keeps mistaking it for some sort of iPad-thingy, then whose fault is that? Those people are neither stupid or dumb like you all seem to think. I have an Epic and an iPad, both of which i like and use quite well. Won't be getting a Xoom, not interested, waiting to see the Galaxy tablet.
Where's the marketing from Motorola, where's the push from VZW? You'd think that these were the same folks who made a big push with the "Droid Does" phone campaign that brought Android awareness to all and sunder.
Walk into any BestBuy and see where and how they've displayed the Xoom. It's in some nondescript corner somewhere with no ecosystem of accessories around it (at least the NYC store here). Almost like an afterthought...just something else we carry. No eye-catching signage, no display props, very little employees who go out of their way to even know about it...

This is what kills me why does there need to be marketing for a product you already know about hand possibly own? Plus aple users tend to be vocal about their devices as well fanactical to some extent which is fine. Why do people feel the need to judtify their own purchases or need to bash one in order to like another? I have a xoom, bought an I pad that I never see(wife and kids's really) and think both serve their purpose. Also one of apples biggest strengths isn't their products but their marketing.

You must all be using some different kind of Xoom then me. I love android more then any other OS but this thing is the biggest piece of janky **** I have ever used. Nothing works, everything force closes. Coming from a galaxy tab this is a giant step DOWN. Granted it ran froyo, but it ran it flawlessly. My friends nook color runs honeycomb better then this. Every minute I use this thing I get more frustrated. Picked it up last night bringing it back within the hour. Huge let down.

I understand where you're coming from, LordLugard, and honestly I don't think people are stupid because they think the xoom is an ipad. Its just my humorous criticism of how I hate apple! Lol. Why? Because apple sucks. Why? ...just because. Lol. Im not being negative towards anybody, but think its funny. And I can care less about the exploitation of the xoom. I actually like being a part of something that's not so trendy. However, Motorola is making a lot of mistakes by not marketing the device properly and shipping it off "incomplete". Also, the xoom is super expensive...but I am definitely a happy camper! Its perfect for school, play, and among other things. Xoom xoom baby!

NYC is very much an iPad "keeping up with the Jones" kind of place. I can hear the conversation now. "Have you seen the latest iPad, simply incredible, I must have one". "Wilfred will you hold Tootsey so I can run to the Apple Store".
Handguns and Xooms will probably be banned at Starbucks.

I hate apples closed mid but after using one in the apple store for about an hour testing all my major daily exercises I'm satisfied I can make documents for class, surf most sites (don't get me wrong there is still problems) and I can tether with my nexus for 3g. I absolutely hate Steve jobs, and can say if I never actually spent the time to do a thurough review myself I would have never naught one. I still have my laptop for torrents and such though.
The best part I can easily sell it on eBay should I love an android tablet I can do my school work on.

I played around with my friends and am tempted as well... I like the refinement of Apple's end products, especially Mac's. But I am not a fan of the closed doors that hamper development and a lot of the policies Apple has instilled. It is a double edged sword for me.
I love my N1, and would never trade it for an iPhone... actually, I sell cell phones and have a pretty low opinion of the iPhone as an actual phone, people are better off getting an iPod touch and a Razr... but man, if I had money, I would so get me one of these:

Oh, I thought "ipadfir" was some sort of IP address fix, like maybe you could buy a static IP from AT&T or something. Got excited for a minute.
Even though I'm anything but a Flash fan, I wouldn't get an iPad simply because it doesn't have it. I think they would make a great mobile web browsing and content consuming device (maybe games too), but there's just to many flash heavy sites out there still. I felt pretty restricted on my old iPhone while browsing the web.
An android based tablet would be nice, but it will be hard to compete with Apple's polish. If the iPad handled flash I would definitely consider it.
The iPad is a pretty amazing device for what it does.
I went to the local apple store the morning it went on sale.
I just don't have a use for it. My commute in the morning is 5 minutes, no train/bus/subway and I'm always near a PC at work/home. N1 fills the need everywhere else.
Good for people who commute long distances and aren't driving, and students I suppose.
Great for media consumption.
Bad for productivity though.
Can't wait to see webOS and Android tablets.

Honestly, isn't it the case now that Jobs isn't spearing the marketing campaign anymore? The commercials lack the douchey weird quality that they had and now almost seem boring, cold. Maybe it's just me...
But yea, when one marketing strategy doesn't work you shift to another.
Ipad 2 strategy up to now has been mostly about speed, weight, size, and to a much lesser extent, apps. Now that the first three are not theirs for much longer, apple is doing damage control marketing to go back on what they said before... Speed, weight, and size are nice... But it's all about the apps... Standard apple douche move.
Sure it sounds bad, but I cannot wait for jobs to die. Then some of the dislike I have for apple might go... But I doubt it.

Are you serious right now? You want someone to drop dead because they know how to market their products properly? Apple is a business. Business is about money. If you have to bash your competition, and make your product seem like a god compared to all the others, you will do it. Hate him if you will, he knows what he is doing. He is a sleezy business man making millions with a cult like following for his brand. However, his attitude is a major flaw. He doesn't seem like the nicest of people.

Yes, I think jobs is a prick and an elitist arsehole since I became aware of him in the 80ies. It's mostly his personality (snobbish commercials and lack of choice in hardware also) that keep me from giving apple a fair shake when evaluating their products. With him truly out of the picture... The choice in hardware is better...
Like you said, cult of personality. I can't stand cults
Isn't Jobs on medical leave still? Since I haven't read news about "OMG, Steve Jobs is now back and doing well again!" But then again, I don't know the process these big companies go through.
What apple has over any android tablet is availability here the the uk, you can walk into any electronics retailer and buy an ipad, but if you want an android tablet (example asus transformer, acer iconia which are both for sale) 'can i buy one today, over the counter'? no you'll have to order one which takes a week
What's the point of having electrical retailers that don't know what retail means?
The basics of supply and demand
If i wanted to buy online and wait a week i would buy from ebay
In here the Netherlands, you must wait a month to get an ipad2.

Buyitdirect won't have the transformer until may.
On the television news today they're stating that retails sales are lowest for 11 months!! is it hardly surprising. If you read a review about something that's ****, and would spend twice the time being repaired than what you would using it, then we've got loads of those, but if you want something that's remotely decent we don't stock it in store.
Might as well live in outback Botswana

Ahaha, I love how apple, having nothing to show except scaled up iphone apps is forcing into the ad "medical professionals uses of the ipad".
Not only this looks elitist and even colder but it is also completly unappropriate for medical use. I do work into the field of radiology and hell a 1080* res screen is way way way too much fail to look at radios or CT scans. You'd have to zoom in all the time and miss the bigger picture. Another point is also that a iOS device cannot plug into a classic medical environment that is 99% of the times using windows computers or remote servers without even a WIFI connectivity for security reasons.
Too long didn't read : Apple ipad2 makes you a doctor and allows your spoiled children to draw numbers with their fingers while their brain and cerebellous white matter is wiring, so that obviously, they won't even be able to handle a pen later on. Technology is not enough, you just need the smug.

Yea the whole medical app thing is a bit comical to me. I guess it's nice to have, but so what? 99.9% of the people who own an iPad don't buy one for the functionality mentioned there. Apple touted "thinner, lighter, faster" until none of those were true anymore and now it's "all about the apps". Outside of Netflix, there's nothing that it has that I want.

While I agree that the commercial is excessive, what marketing isn't. Let's keep it friendly in here, as many users here on XDA also happen to like iPads.

Apple has TechCrunch in its pockets....that site is absolutely horrid and untrustworthy
beside my hurt feelings as an android and xoom fan.
The arcticle is a little one-sided. And a sad thing about todays journalism is, that its all about controversy and polemics.
I think it's a fair article. Honeycomb has problems and bugs that are hurting consumer adoption and like it or not, the Xoom wasn't a good enough device to make people ignore those flaws.
It's too heavy, the screen is very poor, and it shipped with two major features disabled.
Maybe some of you guys would prefer to be mollycoddled and told nice things, but tough.
For the record, Kincaid has historically been a bit of an android fan. Siegler is the shameless, illogical Apple fanboy.
That was more like a critical opinions expressed rather than a fair review.
I mean, holy ****, he doesn't even mention the point that honeycomb is a platform built from scratch...he even stated that the xoom with its honeycomb platform can't never ever get close to the ipads perfection. Noooo...ipad with a phone os, ios, has been around long enough for bug fixes, isn't any better than the honeycomb. In fact its dead simple and too familiar for a long time user to get boring. But this guy surely doesn't get bored after probably all 5 years using the damn iPhone.
one more thing, what kind of reviewer in the world complains about the f*cking home button look like a goddamn up arrow. It doesn't.
PS: this is off topic but I'm sitting at Starbucks, a Guy asked me if my xoom is an ipad. Right in the middle of my anger, I told him: ipad sucks. This is the Motorola xoom running android, much better. Then I get the usual "what is android". Holy cow, I should've just told him yeah this is an ipad, It sucks.

The writer is an Android user. The user experience on the iPad is currently better than on Honeycomb, something which I'm sure will improve in the near future. But that's the future.
Why should he mention that it was built from the ground up? Who the hell cares other than us early adopters? What's important to the consumer (ie his readers) is how well executed it is and right now it still needs work.
His job is to offer an objective view of the platform, not make excuses for it. The latter, apparently, is your job.
>His job is to offer an objective view of the platform
We must be reading different blog posts. It's an opinion piece. Opinions are by definition not objective.
@OP: My thought is that you should pay less attention to blogger pundits with the usual juvie "us-vs-them" argument. It's not a sum-zero game. One doesn't have to lose for the other to win. I think both iOS & Android will do well.
The more interesting question would be, who else besides the two frontrunners will likely make the cut? One would have to count in Windows 8, if only because of the sheer size of the Windows installed base.
WebOS is a dark horse, and QNX is a REALLY dark horse. And MeeGo for now seems to be a horse without a home.
After reading the article, I didn't really think it was all that bad. It was the telling of personal anecdotal experience with an early-release Honeycomb tablet. He likes the Galaxy better. Fine. My own experience with the Xoom has been delightful. I will be happier when there are more made for tablet apps available in the market but that will come in time.
I've read a number of complaints about the weight of the Xoom, and while it was a little heavy to me at first, I've gotten used to it and now I kind of like the "feel." I haven't used the iPad so I can't comment on how they compare. I've read other reviews that favored the Xoom over the iPad. I think it is going to come down to personal preference. This is the whole reason why there are both multiple brands and multiple models within brands.
There are reasons why I personally choose not to go apple and it is not because they make lousy hardware. It has more to do with the amount of (in my opinion tyrannical) control they are determined to exercise over their products. Some people think that even this is a good thing; I don't. The guy in the article has his opinion, I have mine.

Thanks for that. I was just thinking this thread could do with being bogged down in semantics.
Replace 'objective' with 'informed and balanced' then. Because that's precisely what the article is.
Some of you guys are unbelievable. An Android user writes an article expressing optimism for the future of the platform and the entire piece is rubbished because he has the temerity to mention (correctly, in my opinion and the opinion of most reviewers) that the Xoom was a flawed first attempt. Good work.

He doesn't seem to be an android user to me. And it wasn't objective. His opinions were all over the place. The weight is judged by preference. I, am a skinny guy, likes the feel of the weight in my hand.
Again, the home button looking like an up arrow doesn't demonstrate the objective view either. That is clearly how much he's disliked honeycomb. Its a practice of fanboyism bringing the smallest thing to show how bad a product is.
If the article is categorized as a review, bring it to where a review should be. Don't involve with other products then compare and contrast them.

>Replace 'objective' with 'informed and balanced' then. Because that's precisely what the article is.
That's the problem with opinions. If it agrees with your view, it's "informed and balanced." If it isn't, it's "trash and fanboyish".
I'm not sure how "informed and balanced" the piece is when it's based solely on one person's experience with one (OK, two) specific device, running one specific version of HC (3.0.1). Pieces like these are afflicted by what I call the-world-revolves-around-me syndrome, ie if I like it, it's great, if I don't, doom & gloom shall follow.
This, regardless of what the writer thinks of the Android platform. Just because he thinks well (or poorly, whatever) of Android's chances doesn't mean his opinion is worth any more than the space-filler that it is.
And we're back to the subjectivity non-argument again.
You can always tell when somebody lacks debating skills. They always play for the solipsistic stalemate.

PS: this is off topic but I'm sitting at Starbucks, a Guy asked me if my xoom is an ipad. Right in the middle of my anger, I told him: ipad sucks. This is the Motorola xoom running android, much better. Then I get the usual "what is android". Holy cow, I should've just told him yeah this is an ipad, It sucks.

while I don't necessarily disagree with some of the HoneyComb criticisms, or Xoom criticisms in this article TechCrunch is a poor site, with terribly written articles.
The article referenced in an earlier post for example:
"Holding the Xoom with one hand isn’t difficult in the slightest, but it isn’t effortless either."
Suggesting that holding it with one hand isn't effortless, suggests that that there is a certain degree of difficulty, more then 'slightest'. This guy claims that "I’m not going to do a detailed run-through of the hardware specs (which aren’t my forte)..." if talking about hardware specs is not your forte why are you writing an article on a site called "TechCrunch"? Unless you are a great writer, which clearly he is not. TechCrunch hurts my brain.
Also by the way most of the criticisms he mentions are not something you can say about the Xoom with the 3.1 update, which is pretty dope. No FC's better responsiveness throughout, and the browser doesn't suck anymore.
>TechCrunch is a poor site, with terribly written articles.
Yes, TC has terrible writers, but so do the vast majority of tech blogs. Sadly, the techies who read them usually aren't the more discriminating types, and tend to confuse them for real journalists.
"Informed and balanced"... hahah, I'm still chuckling about that one.
Gadget blogs are good for gadget news, not for analytical pieces or op-eds about state of the industry.
Hatworthy seems to be the only one in this thread with half a brain. The Xoom IS heavy.. You cannot hold the Xoom with one hand facing down while looking up for a long period of time. How do I know? I have owned a ipad 2, Xoom, and bb Playbook.. Xoom is uncomfortable to hold in CERTAIN positions. The screen is subpar compared to those tabs named. And is 'unstable' compared to iOS not so much QNX. The Xoom also came with no 4G and SD support ...neither do the competition you say? Well it wasn't promised and used as a marketing ploy like the Xoom thus is the issue.
If the Xoom came with a screen atleast equal to the iPad and Honeycomb was just a tad more stable the Xoom if provided different models I.E 16GB,32,64,etc and was lighter would easily be the best.
You don't mention hardware specs in a cconsumer report my mom doesn't care what's in the computer but how it runs.

I don't get the 2% of the folks who scream from the rooftops that the screen is not as good as most of the other platforms. I'm not in love with any of them. We have each of them in our lab. They are all horrible for getting anything significant done and the iOS device is the most useless closely followed by the Playbook. I'm glad that my primary reason for getting the Xoom was not so much for work, but maybe next year or the year after, we'll vetsome real utility out of these suckers.

2%? No offense but why pull a imaginery number out the sky to back your claim? I'm positive a-lot more than "2%" if coming from an iPad 1 or iPad 2 would not look at the Xoom's screen and immediately notice a difference. This is a 'Tablet' no bigger than 10" and used developed as a multimedia hub. No one said the screen is bad because it's not!! It's just not as good as it should be for the price ....

Jesus, its time for the world to end now. You've got to train her. I trained my girl she was wanting me to get an ipad but I got super talkative and blows all the things about the opacity. Then she understood and now she's calling the xoom by its right name.

Apple fanboy + Xoom = Bad

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqHZ6bR0kZw
The description alone sickens me.
wow... I feel dumber now. That kid has no business talking about any piece of hardware, especially one he has no understand of.
-kesnik
He clearly thinks its way too complicated to use a lockscreen. What was really funny was he would quickly murmer stupid ass things under his breath to make it seem funny. Example... "The battery life is not what you would expect it to be.... yeeeahh."
All I heard was Apple has this, iPhone has this, he doesnt even know the Xoom is the first actual tablet running a real tablet OS.
All in favor of punching the crap outta this guy say aye. AYE!!!!
Couldn't even finish watching the whole thing. It seemed like the video was made on impulse as he blindly fires off inaccurate facts ( the one that got me was mixing up the USB and HDMI). I can see why it only has 59 views.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Simple OS for simple people I suppose. Unless you jailbreak and such, after about a month or so the apple OS gets boring to me.
I stopped the video when he wasn't sure if it had 4G I mean LTE that is what Verizon calls it right? So in other words he doesn't know what hardware the device has but qualifies himself to review the device. OK,.. next
That's why my jailbroken itouch has been sitting in my junkdrawer since I got my Droid X a year ago. There's only so much you can tinker with before it gets monotonous. Plus the battery has gotten so bad it only works plugged in.

What a fool. That video didn't even deserve my time. I certainly hope he doesn't handle his iPad like he did that Xoom, I'm sure it wouldn't be able to stand up to that kind of abuse...

My ping is 24 MEGA SECONDS... wtf
Yes, but I suppose there has to be a device for every type of person. It's just annoying how people try to compare the devices (iPad vs Xoom) when they are both at opposite ends (proprietary - open source) of the spectrum each with there pros and cons.

It's a worthwhile clip in regards to UX. The person has difficulty grasping the HC UI, as he himself admitted a couple of times. That would be an issue Android needs to address, once HC gets out of beta, as I think he is representative of the larger population.
I don't think it's to anyone's benefit to act superior and nitpick on the person's lack of technical acumen. Nothing indicates that he has a pro-Apple or anti-Android bias. He had prior experience with the iPad, and would naturally use it as a yardstick. Given the market penetration the iPad will have had once Android (and other platforms) finally gets going, I think it will be true of many.

I'm pretty sure the larger population would know better and try to learn about their device before they use it (as they would naturally be afraid of doing something wrong). Especially before making a video of it. The name "ILIVONMYIphone" (I live on my iPhone) and the smart remarks he made doesn't signify he's pro apple? And I don't think anybody is acting superior to him. But it's also not to anyone's benefit to watch an uninformative and biased review such as that.
If names and labels were an indication of credibility, then you may want to change yours.
What I've read in this thread is a bunch of Android fanboys making fun of a non-techie's experience and acting snobbish.
[Insert nerd snort] Yah my comments were a little snarky. My damn android-fanboitis was acting up a little bit.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
There are some names that are, and some that aren't. My name is clearly a joke and also what this discussion is not about. And if he was a "non-techie" he wouldn't have an ipad, iphone, heck he wouldn't even have a youtube. So he obviously has some sort of tech knowledge. Especially claiming "...its more outdated then the iPad 1 and iPhone 3GS or 4. I think the 3GS would be faster than it." (which also indicates he's pro apple). Also, there is a huge difference in android fanboys and people who just see a bad review. Not because of what they were reviewing or anything. Just the fact that it was biased, and uninformative makes it horrible. There are xoom bashing videos where they at least got the specs right. And those are fine.

Since we are on a Xoom forum, I would expect posters here to be somewhat offended at what seemed to be a poorly made, derisive review of a complex device that we are working hard to master. Maybe we should just be completely objective and rise above the negativity, but I for one feel protective of the Xoom and the Xoom community, and want it to be successful, so our wonderful developers can continue to invest their hard work to support it.

Something that made me mad today

I was in my anatomy and physiology class today, and I had my iconia with me. I was on Google body and splashtop hd, when a kid behind me asked what tablet I had. So I told him and then he said oh and then pulled out is icrap and started messing around with it showing the person next to him all the things it does. About 20 mins later, the guy that he was showing his pad to asked him, "why is the kids( my iconia) is faster and what is the difference". And then I hear the guy with the I pad say, "oh that's a android tablet, its for poorer people who can't afford an ipad. Its like a cheep mockup. Its not faster it just seems like it because it only runs simple corny apps." He knew I heard him, he said it deliberately. I wanted to blow up after I heard him say that. >:-o

I would have either stalked him after class in order to kick his ass, plugged my thumb drive into my Iconia, or simple said that iPads are for people too stupid to use Android.

Why lower yourself to this persons level? If he wants to believe his iPad is the bees knees, let him. Just show those same folks the difference when he's not around and let them decide for themselves.
It has been my observation for some time now that while there are some people who use Apple and iOS purely for functionality, so much of the time it is about having the "in" thing and being able to show off to others. It is not that the iPad is better at all, it because it is like a fashion statement. This anecdotal tale reveals just one more example of it. People think they are hot snot on a silver platter but in the end they just show they are nothing more then cold buggers on a paper plate.
You should have loaded a flash animation type website. And asked him to do the sa.me.
Then show his friends.or play a videofor the flash drive in your pocket.take him thru all the settings configuration. Or GPS a map to his house.take a decent picture of him holding his ipad. There camera is lame

This happened to me, although unintentionally. I was somewhere with my cousin, where he already had wifi set up on the local hotspot, but I didn't. Someone else asked us to look up a web page, and naturally it took me a little longer cause I had to put in the wifi credentials.
Well, it turns out, he couldn't load the page cause it was mostly flash. I could. I wasn't smug, because he had already acknowledged that android was the superior product. Back when he bought his, iPad was the only viable option. He is also the type to technologically draw within the lines, so ipad fits his needs perfectly.
I've had the Mac vs non-Mac agrument before with other people, though. The sad thing is, you will never win this argument with reason. Mac addiction is akin to religious zealotry; they will go to any length or rational to justify the position that a Mac product is superior.
In addition to that, Mac simply has better brand recognition. You can build a tablet that is faster, thinner, lighter, better in every way and half the price; people will still walk right past it at the store because they want the one with the Mac logo.
They want to be able to tell their friends they have an iPad.
I've noticed that android phones are getting a little more public recognition now, though. This is anecdotal, but I've noticed that when I pull out my Samsung phone, most people know it's an android and can draw the distinction between android and iphone. I don't imagine it will be long before android tablets get the same treatment.
Give it time.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't have any problems finding apps on this thing. Sure there aren't as many as the iPad but after a while all you get are 50 versions of the exact same thing.
One thing I should point out is that there STILL isn't a facebook app for the iPad. There is one for the iPhone but no tablet optimized version yet, and after how long since the first iPad came out?
If I were you I would show him a random cool flash site and ask him to go to it on his ipad so we can see how it scales up(or smth like that) and when he fails at loading it I would laugh my ass off.
If I were you, I will not care at all. My Tablet serves me fine and I don't care about what others are using. I use the tools I need, not the tools others need, and for me Android is being fine. I use to have an iPad and it wouldn't adapt to my needs, so I got ride of it. Nothing wrong about the iPad, simply it didn't fill my needs. I'm not married to an OS, whatever it will be iOS, Android, WebOS, Windows8. I can't switch easily to another table if I find a reason to do it. I don't care about the OS but about the applications and be able to use all my potential with the tablet.
So enjoy your tablet, continue with life and don't pay attention to the background noise.

Same here, I can find any app that I need. Apple does have a lot of good apps but that's because developers go to apple first. But now that apple is making it a pain to upload apps ( especially if its better then theirs) to the store, dev are now going to android
In a year or even a few months android will be number one for apps
