Hi everyone,
My phone survived falling off the roof of my car and being run over by another car - the leather slip case kept it intact. Initially I thought I'd got away with it, but its picked up a screen defect which has got progressively worse. Essentially the colours go screwy - a green tint with blue bands which move across the screen. Its definitely a loose wire as I've been able to "fix" the fault by tapping the back of the phone.
Until tonight, where its not going back to normal no matter where I tap or how hard. I'm not afraid of disassembly if its fixable - found a video online where they pull it literally to bits. But if I go buy the torx driver is the ribbon cable into the screen reasonably easy to get to? Anyone done it?
Still got 4 months left on my contract, so will be a little sad if I have to resurrect my Hermes.....
The blue thing usually happens with my phone. Got my screen replaced like a week ago and the problem persists. What I do is 'flex' the screen in the top left and bottom right and that usually works. Try like bending the screen (sort of) and it will probably work.

No problem, any day. Don't even ask how I figured out that that's the way it can be fixed haha.

So I have noticed a fairly large grouping of dust has collected under my screen on the top left corner. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this and how did you get it taken care of?

Happens to a lot of people including myself. I just deal with it since I can only see it during the day in the sun. You can take it to the spring store and they might fix it for you.

I have recently noticed the same thing in the same upper left corner. I switched from my oversized battery and cover back to the original battery and cover to see if that helps prevent it from getting worse.

I've been using a different back as well, for the powermat charger. I wonder if that is what caused it. Well, off to the sprint store I guess. We'll see what they say.

I have the same problem in the upper-left hand corner. I didn't have an extended battery until today. Completely stock, even got the dust while I had my screen protector on. I do notice that my phone has what I think is called "screen separation". Sometimes when I press down on the screen, it feels strange like it is separated. Hasn't affected the operation of the phone, but it's not too big of a deal for me to take back to Sprint yet. I only notice the dust when the screen is completely black and in direct light, too.

I actually noticed the dust under my screen about two weeks ago and have not made it to the sprint store yet. Should I even bother going there or are they not going to do anything for me? I have the Total Equipment Protection as well.
I've noticed dust under my screen as well. What sucks is the dust is right on top of the front facing camera ....maybe this weekend I will take it to the sprint store and see what they say.
Yeah I have it too, also have a blown speaker for the 2nd time -______-. I took it in to get fixed and they gave me a new screen (awesome) but forgot to put a earpiece back in. Looks like im just ignoring the 2nd time i got dust under the screen and gonna fix the rear speaker myself, or try to at least.
If they have any displays in stock, they'll replace it on the spot. Just make sure you tell them you want a brand new component. The store I took it too put a display that was all scratched up and nicked on the edges on my phone as if I wouldn't mind. How insulting!
last night i was surfing some pages, when i noticed a yellow stain/spot at the right side, near to the top of my screen.
this morning when i looked at it again, i frist thought it was gone, but after some usage, it came back.
taking a closer look, i saw, that the slcd foil(?) under the glass has bend a little bit, what seems to be the reason for this yellow stain. i think it might be a heat problem, since it was gone this morning, but came back after some usage.
i also think it might have to do with using navigation, since my nexus really gets hot while using that.
anyway i will bring it to the shop, but i'd like to know if there were others experiencing this..
here two pics attached (the stain can't be seen that good on a picture).
You sure it wasn't dropped?

yeah, in all those 6 months, that i have it, i never dropped it.
I've also 2 yellow stains,on the left and the right of the lcd on my slcd i9023.I guess it has something to do with heat, because in winter when I've bought it ,it was ok,now in summer the yellow stains appeared.Next week I;ll send the phone to Vodafone service in my country, and I hope it will be exchanged.
Best Regards

That sucks. I hate dealing with hardware issues. Good luck getting it fixed.
After 1 week in service, today I've received back my Nexus S i9023 with a new slcd fitted. No more yellow staints,I hope it will remain the same a few month at least.
Cheers
hello, I am also having the same problem, the same yellow stain has appeared on my right side but i don't have the "warped" lcd as in the first photo... It is definitively a heat problem because i noticed the "stain" when i was downloading on wifi while plugged in and that part of the screen was far hotter then the rest of the screen...maybe some chip under it running hot.
The thing is i got the phone new 6 months ago from ebay so no warranty and my concern is, what guarantee do i have that after i change the screen, that the problem won't appear again? Does anybody know if there is a fix eighter for the screen now or something to prevent it from happening again to my new screen? Could it be a manufacturing problem of the screen itself?
It doesn't seem that this issue is common..Also does the spot spread?
Thanks for taking the patience to read and for any answers.
Today I noticed the exact same problem in the same part of the screen, and I also noticed the foil being bent at that part of the screen. Its perfectly visible under a certain light angle. Being on the exact same spot as your problem, I suppose that it is some chip under that part of the screen causing the problem. I think I also has to do with the fact that the screen is curved... anyway, I cannot return mine for a new one, I hope people in the local service shops will be able to provide me with a fix. Too bad that such a cool phone like the Nexus S suffers from so much problems (I also had the proximity sensor problem that caused screen to remain black sometimes when the phone rings without a way to see who is calling). I will go for one of the new nokia handsets.
Another one here with the same problem on the upper right corner...
I have the phone 8 months now and I am sure that yellow stain wasn't there from the beggining but now it's quite visible especially with white font for ex. when browsing... Also in a specific angle the foil of the screen in that place is visible too...
Same problem on the right corner on top. If its in guarantee they will fix it for free?
Sent from my Nexus S
now after having my display fixed last october for free, since it's a known issue, i actually got a new stain after a couple of months..
but this time, it's on the left side and much bigger.. time to send it in again, warranty till next february..
I have the same issue, I am planning on getting it fixed as well. Good to know that it's a known issue and it's covered.
Same here, upper left corner...
Disappointed to read replacement parts are defective too...
exactly the same issue on right top corner, I sent my phone to warranty repair currently...
Top left corner here. Just hope i can find my warranty or else Im screwed..

Unfortunately i have just seen the same thing that's happened on our nexus s on my friends galaxy nexus.. i was planning to get one after my nexus s developed the spot but now i'm not so sure anymore..
Center left... the same problem!
upper right corner here. Noticed it in some very hot days that are passing now in my country. should I send it to warranty?
My worries, I got the phone in a promotion (huge discount) afraid that if I returned it they will give my money back and I can't get any similar phone for the same money (I really like/need this device)... in the other hand, it might get worse than it is and unusable
Are you guys running custom kernels?
Nope
So my Nexus had the screen lift.. I was just curious, and wanted to see the back of it.
Took the back cover off, no problem. I didn't really do anything except look around. When I wanted to pop the back cover back in, I had trouble with one corner.. it just wouldn't pop in. So i pushed that corner a bit (I swear I didn't really use that much strength) but I turned the device around and saw the corner of the glass was cracked. It didn't reach the pixeled part of the screen, it was only at the black border.
So I thought- ah.. oh well it was my fault. I was pissed.. but who was I to blame right? I'll just live with it.
Here comes the problem.. I pushed the Power button, the lock screen came on as usual. However, it seems to have absolutely no response to my touches at all. I tried touching every single corner... NOTHING.
There is absolutely nothing I can do with this device right now.. Except 1. power it on, 2. take a screen shot.
Can anyone tell me what to do now? I've taken the device out of the states. The country I am in do have Asus office. I know the warranty probably does not cover this. I would be willing to pay for a new screen- but does anything know how much it will cost?
Sigh.. any help/comment would be nice. I'm totally devastated right now. I know it's my fault for not being careful. But I am able to go traveling next week, and was looking forward to reading books on it etc.
If it were me, I'd send it back and get a replacement since it had screen lift and that was the only reason you opened it...

Well I'm not in the U.S, and won't be anytime soon. My friend bought it over for me. Tomorrow I will call the local Asus office and ask them about it.
In the meanwhile I might just buy the micro-USB to USB cable, and use a mouse to control it. Although That will look ridiculous as I'll have to find a flat surface to use the mouse everytime. Is there some other USB controller I can use to control the screen?
Also I don't really know much about digitizers.. once you crack one corner, does it mean the entire thing is not usable anymore?
I had very small screen lift issue. Barely noticeable. But with this official nexus 7 cover seems to keep it down

The touch panel is fused to the glass so if it breaks you're out of luck sorry

does that mean if I want to get a replacement I'll have to pay for LCD+digitizer? :crying:
It'll probably cost more than $100 right...
Hey everybody,
I bought this phone last week and installed a skinomi screen protector. I removed it after about 12 hours to try and remove some dust from underneath the screen. I set it aside to do it later and I powered the phone on without the screen protector, I was really surprised when I got a screen that said that the lcd appeared damaged.
Knock-on does not work at all, if I apply pressure to the right side of the screen it simulates a weird half touch to the right. Any ideas? I'll probably just add the phone insurance and get a new one unless someone has a fix.
Thanks

Are the Skinomi wet application? Maybe you used too much water or something and it damaged your screen.

That screen pops up if you hold a certain button combination too. I can't remember how I found it but I was looking in the system files via nova, and noticed it. May not even,be damaged.

Same thing happened to me applying a skinomi. Phone worked perfect with the protector but removed it and got the popup saying it's damaged.
Any updates?
Screen is working when it wants.
After a trip to a shower my HTC One was declared dead (boot loop even after rice, humidity remover, heat, and others) I figured I would open the phone even it it meant that I could destroy it. It turns out that all you really need is patience and tools already available. Sure, I did bent the upper cover but, hey, everything else is intact.
I started by removing the volume button and started using those "guitar picks" around going down. Added some heat to unset the glue and moving slowly I started prying open the right side (when you are looking at the lcd). Than continued moving down until the left side was stuck. After that I went high on the volume button to set the whole right side open.
Now I'm using the other tool (the one that looks like a lever?) I started opening the left side. This side was a lot harder so I applied heat again. After that the glue wasn't an issue and it started to open nicely. Now I have the phone open and I'll see if I can get it working again.
Sorry for the English. I'm too excited to correct the mistakes and I'm not from an English speaking country.
Edit: added tools pictures.
The guitar picks were used to start opening the phone. The green and blue tool were used to open the left/top/bottom sides. The light blue tool was used mostly as a lever on the right side that was already open.
Edit2:
Video will be here shortly: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48832250&postcount=22
Overall experience while opening the HTC One (compared to the iPad 2/iPhone 3G/S/4S/iPod touch 5th/Motorola Atrix/Transformer Prime) I would give it a 4. The iPad being a 2 (almost impossible to open without a heat source and nearly impossible to mount a new glass without issues).

Phone is back. 100% working again. After opening it up I used a hairdryer on the "on/off" switch, left it open to cool down. After an hour I left it charging and left it there. It wasn't boot looping anymore and it turned on.

Same phone. I just glued it back to position with a superglue (superbonder is the trademark I've used). Used a toothpick to smear it gently and used some phone books to keep things in place. The top aluminum part was bent but the superglue is now holding it.
About the video, I'm not sure I'm willing to open it again. It would be awesome tho..
I have read that under the speaker grills there are screws holding it together.. did you encounter these screws?

Found no screws. It's stuck together in one piece by some clips on the white border only. It's also glued around the same white border.
Follow-up: The phone is still working fine but not charging anymore. I'll wait to open it again later, in about two days or so, and than I'll video the process to see if there's something wrong. Hopefully it's fixable. And I hope I can open it without issues just like the first time. If it doesn't charge I'll see if I can get a new charging port (maybe the water did some damage by rusting the contacts of the port).
It seems that the phone is playing tricks on me. It's charging today.. Go figure..
Could be the water damage. I read where people with different phones talked about the phone acting weird like it just stop charging or the screen won't come on. That would come and go without warning. Remember my father in law damaged a phone once when he was a truck driver and delivering his load in to a walk in freezer. He made many trips in and out and I guess from the extreme cold to heat made it condensate inside the phone. Where are the water damage labels on the phone beings you had it open?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Double post.
Water labels are intact and since htc left Brazil we don't have an authorized to fix it so I opened it and saw that there is no water indicator in red. The water damage sticker is below the flash. Look at the pictures and you'll see a white sticker below the flash and another close to the usb port on the lower side of the phone. Not sure if the second one is a water damage indicator..
I'll keep using the phone till I get some alone time to open it. Tho I'm worried that I might break the phone this time (since it's working again - for no apparent reason).
So, yeah, there's an issue with the charging. Not sure if it's the port or the phone. Tested different chargers and it won't charge while it's on nor when it's off. After a day off it charged (yesterday) but now it won't charge. This sux. I have to find out what's going on. So, yes, I'll have to open it again. I can't have a phone that will be used to drive using gps all day behaving it like that. Phones won't last 4 hours on battery alone while using gps.
Added new picture with tools used..
Sorry for the double/triple post, but it's the best way to keep everyone informed..
If I helped you in any way please consider donating something so I can buy a new phone. The HTC One is dead due to an issue with the USB connector or something else that I'm still not aware. I will use this phone as a test bed from now on to see if I can fix other stuff without breaking too so I do need a new phone. You can donate here: http://bit.ly/1a9vqqg
Thanks and enjoy the video! I hope it helps a lot of people.
A video will be uploaded here: (it's 04:37am GMT -2) and still 205 minutes left to upload. Video will be 720p and it's 1.2gb so yeah, it will take a while. But now I'm off to bed. And sorry for my english. I'm ok writing but I'm so so when speaking. I said I would edit the video but since it's just shy of 19 minutes I figured I would leave it like that.
If you guys have any idea on what to do to help me fix the charging issue I would see if I can try that now that the phone can be easily opened. :fingers-crossed:
