Vibrant no longer for sale at Tmobile? - Vibrant General

The Vibrant looks to have been completely removed from TMobile's website. What the hell?

IT is gone, but the stores are still selling it. It just got replace by the 4g that is coming out, nothing new. It is still a good phone and wont trade it in for less. I dont live in a 4g area so whats the point of having a 4g phone.

I'm just worried that I won't be able to get the Vibrant for a warranty replacement or insurance claim. I don't want the 4g.

you'll either get a refurb (business as usual), which i'm sure they have plenty of or an option for a new phone (like maybe the sgs4g). i wouldn't worry about it, either way.

I read somewhere that a guy was given a 4G in exchange for his broken Vibrant. It's not like they will tell you that you're SOL. If you're under warranty they'll give you a refurb or something comparable.

i just messed up my phone big time... this sucks so bad... i flashed this rom and it wiped my whole internal sd and my external and i cant use my usb to flash back to stock because none my computers can reconigize my phone... AND it wont let me download any apps cuz it says the internal one is too full... WTF!!! I Knew in my heart i should of never flashed tha rom =(

What rom was it?

Rockin that Bionix V 1.2.1 w/ Androdena V5.1

Wrong thread to report ur flashing problems. There is a lot of how to get it back. I had the same issue when i updated my rom to the tmobile rom and not knowing how to get back to root. ODIN is your friend. Search it.

that could be good or bad. I need to go to the stop and ***** about the GPS on both my Vibrants since after dealing with the executive response team and getting them replaced once before they said next time I'll have to go to a store to prove I have a GPS problem. So one of these days I better flash back to stock and go show them before they don't have any refurbs or new ones to give me. I don't want to 4G either. I get just as fast downloads here as the people I know with the Mytouch 4G and the G2.

That's good news to me, my Vibrant's GPS is terrible.
I heard some good comment of the 4G's GPS.

They get rid of the vibrant but keep Samsung Behold II how smart is that

Tmo sent me a refurb - should I send back?

I have a early version of the Vibrant that I have rooted and installed Roms over.. T-Mo sent me a refurb because I was complaining about the poor GPS locks.. we wanted to see if another Vibrant would do better... unfortunately it doesnt...
Today I started adding a ROM to the new phone and it went haywire on me... wouldnt go into Recovery, hard time going into Download mode... literally 2 hours later after a scary Orange explanation mark on the screen did it finally cooperate and I ODIN'd the stock rom back on... turns out the stock rom wouldnt get passed the Galaxy S screen... so then I was about to get into recovery and reinstalled Obsidian since the zip was still on the card... now I can go in and erase everything off the internal memory... should I just return it and keep my early version... my original phone never acted up like this
if you wanna sell it... PM me

Tell them to send you a new one. I'd be fine with a refurb phone if everything worked. but if it doesn't then what's the point of the exchange?

Since the replacement didn't show improvement on gps, If you still have your original phone, keep it and send the refurb back...

Thanks everyone.. Im back to my old one... I went back to stock J16 with a lag fix and a MobileAP mod on it...
If you didn't flash JFD you're doing it wrong. All you will get is a refurbished phone. They're not giving out new ones.
I have 7 days to return it so im testing out every froyo ROM out before I give it back squeeky clean...lol
Blame people who get replacements for issues that exist in every phone at the software level for the refurbs.
I got two brand new exchanges in a row, though.

I swapped out my Vibrant for a new one and forgot to delete the file for root

I swapped out my Vibrant for a new one and forgot to delete the file for root. Is this a problem or will T-Mobile not even notice the file and just wipe the internal mem? I unrooted it before I sent it in but I forgot to delete the file.
Authorities have been notified..... probably on their way to your house now......

I hope you don't get charge cuz if they find out you will. Trust me I got a couple of friends working for Tmo.
I did the same thing OP, no big deal... I didn't get charged..
When I got mine I asked the sales person about rooting the phone. Keep in mind this is a salesperson and not T-Mobile corporate, but she really knew her stuff. She was the one everyone else in the store went to for help when they were not sure of the answer to a customer's question.
She said, if you have to return it just get it back to looking stock. Have the stock ROM on the phone and remove any obvious root or root required apps if they are still installed after you put the stock ROM on there. She said if it made me more comfortable I could remove busybox and su, but that nobody was going to go digging into the file system to see if the phone was rooted.
Basically they know, even if they don't officially acknowledge, that rooting the phone does not break it. If the phone is running stock firmware and it is still having issues then it is highly likely that the issue is hardware. Also, the preliminary acceptance or denial of the claim is done in store. If it makes it back to the factory it is pretty much accepted unless something really fishy pops up, like it is obvious you have been dissembling the device. They might kick it back if they find a FFC or soldering at the GPS antenna, but they are not looking for the su executive at that point.
They don't check the phones out that they get back they just restore them or whatever

Switching to Evo

Alright, so after permantely bricking my phone twice and frustrated with Samsung's/Sprint's lack of support in FroYo, I've decided I'm going to be switching over to the Evo.
One question, if I complain to them that there is a defect in their system since the same problem has happened twice within a month, do you think they will let me switch over to the Evo, and if so, how much would that cost?
Edit: Also, could I use my SD card/battery for this phone?
from what I know, you have to exchange your phone 3 times for the same reason.
good for u. at least some of the epic users are standing up and doing something about their bs. ima wait it out like a wuss

Then I'll lie and say this was the third time.
If it wasn't in their records, I'm sure I could just say something like the one you gave me immediately was defective so this technically is my third phone.

Lol, I probably will. The thing is though, with the evo, they get a lot more updates at least. I don't need the keyboard. I've seen the resolution; not that bad, truthfully. Besides, the Sense UI looks really nice.
I just feel like Sprint and HTC notice the Evo a lot more in its flaws and are constantly trying to make it better.
I just don't want to be with Samsung anymore.
So does anyone know if it's three times or not?! If it is, I'll literally just break the next one.
Why not just walk into a store in your leisure, or call in to C.S and get the right info from the horse's mouth?
Or better still try and unbrick your Epic (might be possible if you expand on what "permanently bricked" it), sell in on C.L and buy an Evo.
Don't be ghetto. You broke your phone. Own up to it. It you want to switch, then switch. Vote with your buying power.

Well bad news on that.
Apparently, there's no possible way I can switch the phone.
Unless...well, if I were to buy an Evo online, do you think they could activate it for me with the same number and everything even though I'm not eligible for an upgrade?
Yes. You should be able to activate it yourself.
What the hell did you do? I'm a noob ad I've modded my Epic a lot and never had a problem.

Installed the Nebula Rom w/ EXT4.
I didn't know the Nebula ROM at the ext4 kernal baked in it, so after doing all the steps, I flashed the kernal and I think that's what happened to it.
I don't care though. I understand it's my fault but Samsung just pisses me off anyway.
And the fact that the Evo is not even a phone listed for trading the Epic in after a certain time is just crazy.
Two best phones on Sprint, and you can't even trade one for another.
It probably happened at band camp. One time....
I have to ask the obvious question. Did you try to use Odin to take it back to stock. Not saying it can't happen, but it's pretty damn hard to brick your phone.
The newer DK28 ROM's are using the EXT4 setup, RFS (or whatever it's called) is Samsungs, so if you are going to flash a newer ROM with the EXT4, then you will have to set your EPIC up for it. There are threads floating around for that, just search and read.
I myself am not happy with Samsungs support, but that's why I come here, we have some awesome devs that like our hardware! And our hardware is awesome!

Yes, I have tried. It CAN go into download mode, but the USB is unable to recognize it on three pcs and even a mac (running Heimdall, not Odin of course)
Unfortunately, I think I've learned my lesson and that I should just be patient with FroYo coming...it will come this month (at the end, most likely) I really hope, if not...oh well. I'm just going to have to be patient and satisfied with what I have. I am not going to make another mistake. Bringing it again would just cause even more suspicion anyway.
same problem here. Eventually it was recoginized as a samsung modem for some reason and the comport was recognized. trying using different cable and usb ports.

Its hard to do I bet. Then again this guy basically admitted he has defrauded and was going to attempt to defraud a company on a public forum, so intelligence or lack there of might be a part of it.
I say HAS defrauded because I seriously doubt he told Sprint that he bricked his phone while flashing custom roms and that they replaced it.
If you really want to get rid of it then fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SPH-D700#Odin_Stock_Flashing
Follow that and that will fix it. After that run the all in one 2.5.5 root and recovery and you'll be good to go. Use odin. I bought the overpriced micro usb cable at sprint and I've never had a problem with it on any phone. Wait until the official froyo comes out and download the tar from here or the zip clockworkmod flash update then root it. That's what I would/am doing. Yes I hate the epic but I don't have the money to get another evo right now. All my luck a new superphone will be released and I'll be stuck with the old stuff.
A few things I didn't like about the evo was the screen wasn't very bright, the battery life is bad, and the wifi/4g/3g reception sucks ass compared to the epic. The epic definitely hears the towers and wifi better.

Hate this POS phone..

I really do hate this phone. No matter what I do I have nothing nut problems. I've tried stock and that sucks. Freezing and restarting all the damn time. I tried rooting. Same bullsh*t but it takes me 4+ hours to get my phone running . I spent from 9pm last night until 3am and then 1-4 this afternoon to get my phone running. I couldn't get Liberty to run right. 3g wouldn't work. Went back to prerooted gb and got my internet working again. Went to take a video and my phone freezes. Had to do a battery pull and lost the video which I can't get back. I don't care what anyone says but F*CK android! I've never had so many headaches and frustration in my life! I seriously want to throw this POS on the ground and go back to a regular dinosaur phone. If I do get another smartphone it will be an iphone. My gf has a iphone 3g and she doesn't have HALF of the problems I have. I seriously want to walk onto the Verizon store and smash this phone across the face of the person that sold it to me. $200 for something that I ha e nothing but issues with plus over $100 to use it. I'd be better off flushing that money down the damn toilet!

Woah, woah! Calm down dude. I have a HTC Wildfire with a development ROM on it which isn't even finished! And I use it daily without any problems. Try more Custom ROMs, sometimes the manufacturer rushes the ROM to hit deadlines, but developers (usually) don't.
But if you REALLY hate your Droid X, get an iPhone or a cheap old phone.

First, have you tried a factory reset? Second, if you've only had the phone since Nov and it's truly defective, take it to VZW and swap it out. Your warranty is a year
My brother had the same issue with his droid x, he just called Verizon I they sent him a replacement phone, he was still under warranty. They actually sent him 3 phones cuz every time they sent him one it was defective. The last phone he got is so far working well. I told my brother when he gets a new phone maybe he should get a htc or samsung.

I've done more factory resets than I can count. I've been having problems with Liberty it's not funny. I'm trying to wait until CM7 is a little more stable. Right now, I'm running prerooted GB because I couldn't get 3g internet working on Liberty v.08 or v.09. The 3g would be there, but it wouldn't connect. When I flashed the prerooted GB .zip, my 3g started working immediately. Then, I tried to email and Twitter jrummy16 to try to get help with the issue, and he hasn't responded. I understand he's a busy man, but you should really deal with issues with your own apps and roms. I wasn't disrespectful or angry in these messages. In fact, I begged him for help. In Liberty toolbox, when you go to update and it tells you after you download the rom that it's going to restart in recovery and flash it, my phone just restarts normally. I did this 10 times with no luck. I had to use bootstrap to do it, and the damn 3g didn't work. I just want a phone that works. It will work for about a month after I flash something and then the problems start. My gf has an iphone 3gs and she hasn't had hardly any problems at all with her phone. The only problems she's had are with some apps not working. Before I got this phone, I went through 4 wildfires because those kept crashing multiple times a day, and 2 Motorola Milestone XT720s for the same reason..

I ran my phone stock until the GB OTA. When I had all kinds of problems, I finally rooted and ran Liberty 2.0.1 Froyo. It didn't take me that long to just root it. It took me hours to get it runnig right because of issues with Liberty. It's not my fault Liberty Toolbox has a bug in it and won't restart into recovery. The first time I tried to upgrade from 2.0.1 to GB, my phone locked up at the M logo. I pulled the battery, restarted into recovery, cleared the memory and cache 5 times each, and it still didn't work, so I had to SBF back to froyo, root, then download the prerooted GB file from another source because the one I had was corrupted, flash that, then when I had to manually flash Liberty v.08 THEN v.09, my 3g wouldn't work. I spent about an hour on the phone with customer service just to make sure there wasn't a 3g issue in my area, then I flashed back to GB prerooted, data wipe/clear cache 5 times each time, and I'm still having issues.. There comes a point where after going through all of that bull****, you finally have had enough. When I ran my phone completely stock, I had freezing/reboot issues. When I root, I have issues. No matter what I do, I have issues. You can all clown and I really don't care. Until you go through what I've been through, you won't understand...
Aww didums. Grow up and get some cheese.
Seriously if it was that bad, why didn't you just exchange it? And don't bother giving crap excuses, you are just a dumb ass.

My invention: The Idiot Meter.
When walking into a phone store, someone should hand you a tablet with a solid test to test your phone/smartphone knowledge, user accessibility and the ability to know how to perform simple self diagnostics/troubleshoot on your device.
Based on your score, you'll get the device that meets your tested IQ, or in most cases and certainly the OPs case, a swift kick in the ass out of the store with a 20% coupon to the nearest Walmart for a self service prepaid Tracphone.
Boy I tell ya, that sure would cut out 1/3 of idiot threads I read on XDA and potentially increase my life expectancy an extra 10 years from not having to deal with idiot customers! ( yes, I work for a major carrier on the sale front lines lol )
With that said, I am at peace lol.

You aren't helping yourself at all. Honestly, you sound as though you're trolling for attention. If you're having 3G connectivity problems (amongst others) where there were none before, then you might have a hardware issue. If you're truly having this many problems with your particular device, exchange the phone. If you aren't willing to do that for whatever reason, you might want to stop posting.
And FWIW, CM7 is solid and is easily the smoothest and most stable ROM that I've had on my DX...including stock. Once you exchange your phone, give it a shot.

Maybe you should just stick with g codes then.
But no really your phone might just be the issue. Try a fresh sbf and then load on cm7. CM7 is more stable then most of the roms out there for dx. If you still have issue sbf back to stock and ask to have it replaced. Claim it reboots every so often for no reason. They will exchange it on that issue alone.

Honestly, I don't need attention from anyone. I was just pissed off and needed to vent. The connectivity problems were Liberty, because once I flashed back to prerooted GB, I was able to connect again. The 3g symbol was up on the screen, but the upload and download arrows weren't flashing at all. Like I said, I can deal with a lot of bull**** before the frustration becomes too much. I've dealt with issues in the past and didn't say anything about it. My phone will work great for about a month or two and then the issues start. Thank you for letting me know that CM7 is now stable enough to use. I wanted to switch over to it because of all of the great things I've heard about the rom, but saw that at the beginning there were a lot of issues with it, so I decided to wait until they worked out the kinks. I think I will start looking for the file and see about flashing over to try it out.. Thanks again..

Thanks. I'm still learning G-code, but I'm proficient in Mazatrol. I ran Mazak lathes for about 4 years, but recently started working at a shop running Haas machines. G-code isn't too hard to leran coming from Mazak. I think I will take your advice and SBF back to Froyo, install the prerooted GB, then flash CM7. I just did all of this night before last, but I guess a fresh sbf after going from Liberty back to GB wouldn't be a bad idea. Some of the problems I've had is with bugs in the files. I've dealt with corrupted files a few times in the past, and it's really frustrating to get that far only to have to sbf and start all over again. Every time I flash or sbf, I always wipe data/cache 4-5 times before booting up normally..
I could exchange the phone, but I would probably end up with a refurbished phone, only to have the same issues again. Can any of you honestly tell me that your phone never freezes or reboots???

For those returning rooted phones...

I have given Sprint my phone to repair a blown speaker, and also gave Best Buy my phone for a couple days.
Both times phone was rooted, to Sprint it had a stock looking rom with superusers though etc, they didn't say anything.
Gave phone to Best Buy, with a Sense 3.0 rom on it, she even mentioned "This looks like my Evo3d" and i told her I was rooted and was running a sense3.0 rom etc etc and she was all "cool."
however i got my phone back from both places and they were refurbs and i obviously lost my roots.
Most recently I got my refurb phone with the 2.3 OTA so no root anymores.
I guess it depends on who you return it to, but on both of my occasions, both for the same reason, even at about the same time span...they didn't say anything negative or 'sorry we can't help you' etc.
Just bored on xda..no root is driving me nuts.

I tried opening the link inside the file, but it would not load for me.
What does it say in 20 words or less?

Rooted phone are covered under warranty and 100% OK by Sprint.
So, I wasted my time getting it back to stock to take it in for a blown speaker.
Awesome.
Thanks for the reply.

My friends phone was rooted and sprint forced an upgrage. He has the Sprint Evo 4G. It was rooted with Evervolv v1.1.0b3 (2.3.4). the HTC white screen kept repeating itself. I used my SD card to try to get the upgrade to complete but when it got to the system upgrade the second part progress bar was in red. It would never upgrade. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I saw your OTA upgrage prevents you rooting and I found it on my EVO. I liked rooting but is it now impossible to do. Any information that will help would be highly appreciated.

They swapped your phone for a blown speaker? They obviously didn't know what they were doing if that's all that was wrong with it. I'd suggest finding another service center.
